The fact that this eventually turns into the Shepherd’s Boy speaks volumes. It really shows the Doctor’s whole emotional Time War journey through music. Murray Gold is perhaps the greatest thing to ever happen to Doctor Who.
Can't remember where I read it, but I thought the below summed it up rather nicely as to why this is:
In buying Gallifrey a future, the Doctor bought their own.
2:38
i’d like to consider the Shepherd’s Boy motif here to be a representation of the birth of the Twelfth Doctor. i would argue that the decision to save Gallifrey is what gave birth to 12, in a way. “I’m the Doctor, and I save people.”
Agreed, also the Shepard boy was his secondary theme to me.
"There's a mountain of pure diamond, it takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it. Every one thousand years a tiny bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. When the whole mountain has been worn away by the bird, the first second of eternity has passed. You might think that's a hell of a long time but, personally I think that's one hell of a bird."
"Dear God, three of them. All my worst nightmares at once."
No sir... All Thirteen !! (Ok, ok it's not here but the quote is still awesome ^^)
Einez Crespo They're saving your butts, be a little grateful! *The Time of the Doctor* Thanks!!!!
Jess Caron Some Time Lords have historically been dismissive of The Doctor his old teacher Borusa being an example. Also its not a crime to quote something from the show so lighten up.
Einez Crespo I was yelling at Rassilon, sorry :)
Jess Caron That wasn't Rassilon, he was a Time Lord who, ironically, had the moniker "The General".
"Go to the city. Find somebody important. Tell them, I'm back. Tell them, I know what they did, and I'm on my way. And if they ask you who I am, tell them, I came the long way round"
You wouldn't think Murray Gold can still outdo himself at this point, but then... 2:18.
Christoph Burschka Foreshadowing at its finest 😢
You might think the doctors got an idea
But personality I think Murray Gold got his idea for something bigger at this score :)
It's the finest piece of music ever!
How is that possible?.. This is the second full theme of The 12th Doctor... In addition to the fact that the authors went to the trick with the fact that Peter Capaldi appears in the series for the second time before his Doctor, we can also hear his second title track...
Now realizing the current state of the show is even more painful... REALLY hope the show rises again in our eyes. Even if Murray Gold is unlikely to return to the project.
THATS ONE HELL OF A BIRD
+Tom Pennock Epic quote from an epic episode. Can't wait to see how it ends.
That was one of my favourite episodes
one of the best episodes of the new series for me, instant classic.
+Casidy Rose not one , all 13!
Which one was it?
Tenth Doctor: "What we do today is not out of fear or hatred. It is done because there is no other way."
Eleventh Doctor: "And it is done in the name of the many lives we are failing to save."
That one moment where the Doctor(s) have finally given up, even if only temporarily. They realized that the situation had escalated too far and too much had been lost that they felt lost. To watch a man who'd traveled near and far, saved many and outsmarted many, just cave in. Despite the Warrior, the Hero, and the Eleventh coming together, for a small moment, they lost hope. It's truly really good acting and dialogue when you watch Smith, Tennant, and Hurt all synchronize their despair and sad resolution despite having fought so hard to prevail over other wars.
Only to realize with a little help, who they are, who they chose to change into: A man that isn't cowardly. A man that never gives up and and a man who is a doctor.
Props to the show for moments like these.
True. Even in the darkest and lowest moments, when the Doctor has no other options, the people they have helped, make friends with, and grown attached to remind them who they are, and the pull the impossible, and triumph.
"Gentlemen, We're ready! GERONIMOOOOOOOOO!" "ALLONS-Y!" "Oh, for God's sake! GALLIFREY STANDS!"
11, 10 and the War Doctor
***** technically the tenth doctor :)
I prefer, "Oh absolutely!" from the Death in Heaven edit someone made TBH
"And for my next trick..."
Telos, sealed you in your ice tombs! Voga! Canary Wharf! Planet 14! Every single time, you lose... even on the Moon.
Almost every arguement I hear from someone who doesn't like Heaven Sent is that they claim it "tried too hard to be clever".
But, I mean, it simply was clever. Not just clever, but great writing. Nothing felt over done.
I'd rather something "tried too hard to be clever" than didn't try at all.
I never found someone who disliked heaven sent lol. Like, ever.
I mean this is from the last great time war not heaven sent
My only problem with it is it's so forgettable
I love Heaven Sent to death. It’s in the top ten best episodes of the new show. Unfortunately it was followed by the very worst one.
"Support Murray Gold, Ben Foster and the orchestra by buying the soundtrack!"
Yeah I'm trying
Still waiting for Series 10's Soundtrack to be released. -_-
And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed!
Hello Basil.
The Doctor You're maye a doctor,But I am _the_ Doctor! The definite article, you might say.
Personally, I'd say that's one hell of a bird.
"There's this emperor, and he asks this shepherd boy "How many seconds in eternity?" And the shepherd boy says "There's this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it, and an hour to go around it. Every hundred years, a little bird comes, and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain, and when the entire mountain is chiselled away, the first second of eternity will have passed! You might think that's a hell of a long time, but personally, I'd say that's a hell of a bird!"
AND THE SHEPHERD'S BOY SAYS.....
+daleksvscybermen (dies 2 billion times over)
+daleksvscybermen There's a mountain of pure diamond! It takes an hour to climb it, and an hour to go around it!
+Matthew Musselwhite (dies 2 billion times again)
It's Shepherd boy, not Shepherd's boy.
CMD Parodies And?
The First Doctor: "Calling the War Council of Gallifrey! This is the Doctor!"
The Second Doctor: "Good luck."
The Third Doctor: "Standing by."
The War Doctor: "Ready."
The Fourth Doctor: "Commencing calculations."
The Fifth Doctor: "Soon be there."
The Seventh Doctor: "Across the boundaries that divide one universe from another."
The Sixth Doctor: "Just got to lock on to his coordinates."
The Ninth Doctor: "And for my next trick."
The General: "I didn't know when I was well off. All twelve of them!"
The Twelfth Doctor : "No, sir. All thirteen!"

The General: "I didn't know when I was well off. All twelve of them!"
The Twelfth Doctor : "No, sir. All thirteen!"
It would've been nice if they all had a line but alas not.
Tristan Elliot Palmer Actually, Four said "Ready" iirc and Six definitely has the "Just got to lock onto its coordinates line." You can see him say it in the hologram.
Just listened to it again. I'm pretty sure 2 did say "Ready" but 4 actually said "Commencing Calculations". As for the 6 line, I still think it sounds incredibly like 5 but I guess I don't know 6's voice as well as I'd thought. I can hear traces of his voice in it, it just sounded so much like 5 to me. Ah well... MANY DOCTORS, MANY VOICES at the end of the day! :P
The First Doctor said, "Commencing calculations." Tom didn't have any lines in this scene.
Are you sure? It sounds the closest to Tom out of any of them. Although if not him, I would definitely have said it was Will.
The actual Timelord Victorious... saving Gallifrey
"Who does he think he is?!"
"He's the Man That Won The Time War."
"Well over a billion years..."
"Over 4 and a half billion years..."
If I didn't know better, I'd say I travelled 52 million in the future
+Lexmoss 1 Trillion Years into the future....
4.5 Billion years to be exact
+Bradley Green I know I'm replying to a months-old comment, but can I just say that I love your profile picture?
Never be cruel, never be cowardly!
*AND NEVER EVER EAT PEARS*
"No Sir. All thirteen!"
No, all fourteen!!!
No! All sixteen!
*trump mugshot*
People always get it wrong with Time Lords. We take forever to die. Even if we are too injured to regenerate, every cell in our bodies keeps trying. Dying properly can take days. That's why we like to die among our own kind. They know not to bury us early.
I think... In my current condition, it'll take me about... a day and a half to reach the top of the tower. I think, if I'm lucky, I have a day and a half. I have to do this, Clara. It's the only way. I have to be strong.
I should've known from the very beginning. Of course...
The portrait of you... The Creature from my own nightmares... This place is my own bespoke torture chamber. Intended for me only. All those skulls, in the water... How could there be other prisoners, in my hell? The answer, of course, is there were never any other prisoners. And the stars... they weren't in the wrong place. And I haven't time travelled... I've just been here a very, very long time...
Every room resets. Remember I told you that? Every room reverts to its original condition. Logically, the teleporter should do the same. 'Teleporters'- A fancy word. Just like 3D printers, really. Except it breaks down living matter and information, and transmits it. All you have to do is add energy. The room has reset, return to its original condition when I arrived! That means, there's a copy of me, still in the hard drive. Me... Exactly as I was, when I first got here. Seven thousand years ago.
All I have to find, is some energy... And all you need for energy, is something to burn. How long can I keep doing this, Clara? Burning the old me to make a new one?
...
If you think because she's dead that I'm weak, than you understand very little. If you were any part in killing her, and you're not afraid, then you understand nothing at all. So for your own sake, understand this; I'm The Doctor. I'm coming to find you, and I will never ever stop. Because you won't see this coming!
If I didn't know better, I'd say I traveled seven thousand years into the future.
"How many seconds in eternity?"
If I didn't know better, I'd say I've travelled Twelve thousand years into the future.
"How many seconds in eternity?" The Shepards Boy-
Six Hundred Thousand years into the future.
"How many seconds in eternity?" The Shepards Boy says.
Twelve Hundred Thousand years into the future.
The shepards boy says.
Two million years into the future.
The Shepard Boy says..
Twenty million years into the future.
The Shepard Boy says! "There's this mountain of pure diamond! It takes an hour to climb it, and an hour to go around it!"
Fifty-two million years.
"Every hundred years, a little bird comes, And sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain!"
Nearly a Billion years.
"And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed!"
Well over a Billion years.
You musta think that's a helluva long time!
Personally, I think that's a helluva-
Personally? I think that's a helluva bird.
*cough cough*
Aiden Smith You are a fucking legend
Aiden Smith alternatively:
Oh there it is the silly old universe....
*TARDIS bleeps*
The more I save it the more it needs saving. It’s like a treadmill...
*TARDIS bleeps*
Although one more lifetime couldn’t kill anyone except me...
You wait a moment doctor. Lets get it right, i’ve got a few things to say to you....
Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears.
Always remember that hate is always foolish and love is always wise.
And remember you musn’t tell anyone your name. They wouldn’t understand it anyway. Except... children.... children can hear your name if the heart and the stars in the right place children cam hear your name.
Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind.
Doctor... I let you go...
I’m impressed
That speech was at least ten minutes long

*ring slides off and clatters*
*pulls the screen and looks at reflection*
OH BRILLIANT!
*presses button*
*boom*
This song, in three of its segments, is either a variation or has variations of it in other Doctor Who scores. Here’s what I’ve found:
0:00-2:19 - Altering Lives (Series 4 Specials - Variation with vocals)
2:19-3:50 - The Shepherd’s Boy / Breaking the Wall (Series 9/Twice Upon a Time - Sounds like an early draft variation)
3:50-5:31 - I Am Ashildr (Series 9 - Sped-up variation)
5:31-7:03 - The Majestic Tale of a Madman In a Box (Series 6 - Same song, nothing different)
I think it’s beautiful that a song can be repurposed in such a way that it can bring out emotions I didn’t even know were possible while listening to music. Sad nostalgia, wonder and excitement, that feeling when you know it’s about to go down. I love this show and I love Murray Gold’s work!
The Shepherd's Boy was also in Series 10 too, most prominently in the scene where the Doctor blows himself up in order to save people he barely knows and continue being himself at the same time. great scene.
"EVERY HUNDRED YEARS, A LITTLE BIRD COMES, AND SHARPENS IT'S BEAK... ON THE DIAMOND MOUNTAIN!"
AND WHEN THE ENTIRE MOUNTAIN HAS CHISELLED AWAY
THE FIRST SECOND OF ETERNITY HAVE PASSED!
Monferno you may think that’s a hell of a long time
Personally; I think that's a hell of a bird.
I'm not a doctor, I am The Doctor. The original, you might say.
The Doctor You're maybe a doctor, but I am THE Doctor. The definite article.
Doctor, I let you go.
The most epic song for the most epic moment in Tv history.
+Niklas Norgren Happened twice now.
Ten: You're not actually suggesting that we change our own personal history?
The Doctor: We change history all the time. I'm suggesting something far worse.
The War Doctor: What exactly?
The Doctor: Gentlemen, I have had four hundred years to think about this. I've changed my mind.
The War Doctor: There's still a billion billion Daleks up there attacking us.
The Doctor: Yes, there is! There is!
Ten: But there's something those billion billion Daleks don't know.
The Doctor: 'Cause if they did they'd probably send for reinforcements.
Clara: What? What don't they know?
The Doctor: This time there's three of us.
The War Doctor: She didn't just show me any old future, she told me exactly the future I need to see!
Rose: Now you're getting it.
The Doctor: Eh? Who did?
The War Doctor: Oh, Bad Wolf Girl I could kiss you!
Rose: Yeah, that's gonna happen.
Ten: Sorry, did you just say Bad Wolf?
Clara: So what are we doing? What's the plan?
The War Doctor: The Dalek fleets are surrounding Gallifrey. Firing on it constantly.
Ten: The sky trench is holding. But, what if the whole planet just disappeared?
Clara: Tiny bit of an ask.
Ten: The Daleks will be firing on each other. They'd destroy themselves in their own crossfire.
The War Doctor: Gallifrey will be gone, the Daleks will be destroyed, and it would look to the rest of the universe as if they'd annihilated each other.
Clara: But where would Gallifrey be?
Ten: Frozen. Frozen in an instant of time. Safe and hidden away.
The Doctor: Exactly...
The War Doctor: ...like a painting.
I love how you refer to everyone else as ten and war but eleven is “The Doctor”. Love it.
@@edithfinch7674same, as 11th was the current Doctor it makes sense and I love it too
11th Doctor: Gentlemen, I have had 400 years to think about this. I've changed my mind
War Doctor: There's still a billion billion Daleks up there.
11th Doctor: Yes there is . There is.
10th Doctor: But, Theres something those billion billion Daleks don't know.
Clara: What? What don't they know?
11th Doctor: This Time Theres three of us.
GALLIFREY STANDS!!!!!!
GERONIMOOOOO
ALLONS-Y
easily one of the most beautiful pieces written for Doctor Who
2:33 how clever Murray. You've just put a hint of The Shepherd's Boy OST.
I was watching the 50th just now and heard the music, didn't realise the Breaking the wall music was not a completely original piece! I never realised.
Is this music found anywhere else?
Yeah I didn't realize that it was in the 50th anniversary... (mainly because I don't like that episode) But I don't recall it being anywhere else after all it's literally called "This time there's three of us" so it wouldn't be anywhere else (unless it's a special like heaven sent)
This would appear to be the prototype to it, apparently. Man, this is a late discovery for me.
It's apparently the leitmotif for the Doctor saving Gallifrey. So it was reprised as The Shepherd's Boy to musically foreshadow what was on the other side of the wall. Sort of like how hearing the leitmotif for the Cybermen clues you in that they're the main villain even before they're revealed.
@@JazzyWaffles Do you know where I can find the original Leitmotif to listen to for saving gallifrey?
It's pretty much a musical medley / journey throughout all Doctor Who, as much as each iteration of the Doctor is a unique personality, they ALL have things in common that they share, passion, empathy and caring dearly to those who are close to them. And in that they can be as gentle as a summers breeze or as savage as an oncoming storm. It's all summed up in this theme.
It's great that this album finally got published. And this is one of its best tracks, hands down. :-)
I guess you could say, I've been doing this all my lives!
In breaking down this track:
0:00 - 2:19 - Altering Lives (The Waters of Mars)
2:20 - 3:49 - A variation on Breaking the Wall (Heaven Sent)
3:50 - 5:29 - Something original (Unless someone else can identify it.)
5:30 - 7:20 - The Majestic Tale (Of a Madman in a Box)
Since Breaking the Wall came AFTER this - wouldn't Breaking the Wall be a variation on THIS soundtrack?
If you listen quite closely, 3:50 - 5:29 sounds a *bit* like This is Gallifrey.
Mirdor breaking the wall is based off this
Well... Breaking the Wall would actually be a variation of 2:20-3:49.
10 12 War 11
How long can I keep doing this Clara,

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, BAD WOLF GIRL, I COULD KISS YOU! Hahahahaha!
Yep, that's gonna happen.

- CALLING THE WAR COUNCIL OF GALLIFREY, THIS IS THE DOCTOR!
'Gentlemen...I have had over 400 years to think about this...' - 11th Doctor
'...I've changed my mind...' - 11th Doctor
'But there are still a million million dalkes up there...raining fire down on us!' -War Doctor
'Yes...but there's one thing those million million daleks, don't know...' - 10th Doctor
'Because if they did, they'd probably call for reinforcements' - 11th Doctor
'What don't they know...?' - Clara Oswald
'This time there's three of us...' - 11th Doctor
You know, there is still a copy of Twelve in a transporter...
Eleven has hundreds of years on Trenzalore...
Ten still has a clone in another dimension...
And Nine... well, we never saw the Doctor in Pete's world.
2:30 "well... I suppose one more life-time wouldn't kill anyone..."
"Well, except me. You wait a moment, Doctor! Let's get it right."
Sonic: That's why we gonna live life to the fullest in the time we have.
RIP JOHN HURT
Murray Gold does musical continuity better than anyone else. Segun Akinola remember this please
Segun's doing a decent job of musical continuity. It's just more subtle than how Murray Gold did it.
Where I stand is Where I fall.
2:21 and 3:53 these parts gives me the chills
Every single time, you lose - even on the moon!
I only just realised the first part of this track is using the same tune as “Altering Lives” from The Waters of Mars. Perfect for the theme of this special - hoping the next specials live up to the sheer excitement and wonder we felt for the 50th
How have I never heard this version of this song? I don't recall ever hearing it during the episode, or the barn scene. But so beautiful.
“Geronimo!”
“Allons-y!”
“Oh, for god’s sake... Gallifrey stands!”
2:20 the shepherds boy omg
Why is the heartbreaking music always the most beautiful? 😥

General's advisor: Another one!
General: are you sure the message is from him?
General's advisor: Oh yes!
General: Why would he do that?... what's the mad fool talking about now?
11th: Hello, hello, Gallifrey High Command this is the Doctor Speaking
10th: Hello! Also the Doctor, can you hear me?
War: Also the Doctor, Standing Ready.
General: Dear god three of them... all my worst nightmares at once.
10th: General, we have a plan.
11th: We should point out that it is a fairly terrible plan.
10th: And almost certainly won't work.
11th: I was happy with fairly terrible.
10th: Sorry, just... thinking out loud.
11th: We're flying our Tardises into your lower atmosphere.
10th: We're positioned equidistant intervals around the globe. Equidistant, so grown up.
War: Just about ready to do it.
General: Ready to do what?
11th: We're going to freeze Gallifrey.
General: I'm sorry, what?
10th: Using our Tardises, we're going to freeze Gallifrey in a single moment in time.
War: you know like those stasis cubes? Single moment in time, held in a parralel pocket universe.
11th: Except we're going to do it to a whole planet.
10th: And all the people on it.
General: What?! Even if that were possible which it isn't... why would you do such a thing?

Sonic: (Ryan Drummond) So, we’re trapped in there. I can’t believe Eggman won! And he want to mess up Amy’s birthday!
Barry: (David Tennant or James Arnold Taylor) I know. I know that I’ve let them mess up everything, because it’s my fault.
Sonic: Huh? What do you mean?
Barry: I’m saying that I failed. All this time, I knew Episo was just following the rules, but I didn’t know that this train’s a Badnik because of Eggman. I’ve let everyone down. I let you down. I’ve made the worst decision for all. I’m sorry, Sonic.
Narrator: Sonic is being kind to him.
Sonic: Hey. I would never failed to warn everyone, because I believe them. That’s why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have. I didn’t do everything by myself. I made new adventures, new friends, and you can too, curse you got one.
Narrator: This made Barry feel much better. He smiles.
Barry: Thanks, Sonic.
Sonic: No problem, Bud.
