I love the guitar music at the beginning of this video. It’s kind of fun to watch the cutting of the peat. Peat is basically a geological prerequisite to coal. Coal is just under pressure and remains underground much longer.
My understanding like he said it's in the malting process, the barley is slowly roasted, and they use the peat to do that, but the smoke from the peat also smokes the barley just like a wood chip smoker would.
i want to know how comes no matter how many times i watch this or any other video i dont get anymore points? 14 videos up some 2 & 3 times but alas still only 10 points & still cant get an answer from Laphroaigs! anyone else got this problem?

@@laphroaigRead this & i'll gladly answer your question. WELL BLOW MY SOCKS OFF! (as my socks say that i got with my 10yr old from AMAZON!) i actually got a reply from Laphroaig, well the team anyway, so official & unfriendly like the jocks are supposed to be, & were when my wife & i used to deliver to Johnnie Walker in Kilmarnock. (sorry for swearing Laphroaigs lol) but a name would have been a lot better than just The Team, its as bad as an automated reply from a computer! NOW, get your facts right please, there is more than 1 video under the 360 degrees heading & more than 1 under Distillery tour heading! I checked before i wrote this just in case & mash hse, stills, malt floors kiln fire, warehouse etc, etc need i go on all come under these categories! I did check a few more that ive seen but cant be bothered to show you for being wrong in what you're telling me! As for my favourite video, its got to be THE KILBRIDE STREAM! I can almost taste that water. Cold n salty as it may be, but to have been able to have drunk the water that makes my favourite QUARTERCASK, & the flavour of the 10yr old would be fantastic & then with a bit of luck Laphoaigs could put the TRIPLEWOOD back on that dare i say i've been dying to try cos as your ad for it reads, ITS FOR THE PURIST! Really going to miss your dulcet tones, even my wife likes & can understand your voice (most of the time lol.) Best of luck for the future John. Regards Peter & Katie from the Smoke.
Have no clue what it is or in what way you are using it... Now that would be cool if you could brake it down threw the steps and how its used... No one really talks about what its really used for and man I have looked all over the place.. In one video they where burning it like a log on a fire..
There are a number of uses but mainly it's a type of fossil fuel - which is its traditional use especially in Scotland and Ireland. However information on its use is easy to find on the internet, have a look at Wikipedia to start
It is not an ingredient in the whisky itself, but rather a source of fuel in coastal areas and islands where trees and wood is harder to come by. And the use of peat in the process of drying the malted barley is what gives the smokey flavour of peated whiskies.
So satisfying to watch the cut
The best single malt for my money, my tastebuds love it.
That sound when he cut it...I'm not an ASMR guy but I think that's my closest equivalent.

Learned a lot here. Very helpful informational video.
This is amazing stuff.
Love this scotch ....when I tried it first didn’t like it ...then I just started to love it
It's whisky. There is no "Scotch". Please cut that American crap.
@@jeremyhunter2319 Whisky from Scotland is Scotch. Go be dumb somewhere else, you uneducated embarrassment.
@@jeremyhunter2319 as a Scottish man I can tell you scotch is a thing.
@@seasidesixgunsmark9561 I know it is, amongst uncultured Americans.
@@jeremyhunter2319 pretty much with anyone who isn't Scottish. Scotch simply is a way of saying whisky from Scotland. Even the English use it.
I bought my first bottle after watching this.

who else is drinking whiskey and watching this? Meanwhile, Scottish accent is like Indian accent- Rolling tounges...lol
They hear me rollin, they hatin...
Not drinking at the moment. At work. Boss wouldn't approve. However, watching UA-cam is fine.
Love this video!!!
Are there tardigrades in my Laphroaig?
Yep. Those tough little water-bears continuously stir the whisky, even in the bottle.
Absolutely. They are drunk 24/7 and just swimming about in ecstasy.
After this corona bs is over Scotland (Islay) here I come!!!
Will they ever run out of peat?
No.
Nur wenn fridays for future dass Gebiet besetzt, wir hoffen das geschieht nie best regards Lord and Lady of Laphroaig
Where can I get one of those jackets???
Was this peat cutting technique traditionally used in Islay? The technique and cutter used seem to me to be from Shetland.
How does the peat flavor get added to the whiskey? I'm assuming it's not just ground up and added to the drink, haha.
My understanding like he said it's in the malting process, the barley is slowly roasted, and they use the peat to do that, but the smoke from the peat also smokes the barley just like a wood chip smoker would.
I dream of living there
can I buy a brick of that
Is the entry song "Foggy Dew" or "The Fighting 69th"?
grtwhtbnr Neither, ‘Star of County Down’
IS license required to harvest peat?
No, not in Scotland
