Old retired gunsmith here. Sorry to hear about the hatred from those thousands of self proclaimed experts out there. I have had many customers with new guns that did not run entirely right. Sometimes they happily ran right out of the box. Sometimes they needed adjustments. Sometimes they needed replacement parts. Sometimes the manufacturer missed something important and the whole line needed recalled and redesigned. You found problems. You diagnosed them and solved them. Bravo. I approve. I also approve of speaking up when you find any problem with any newly released product--that is how recalls get processed before serious damage or injury happens.
When the new hot gun or whatever it is hits the market..wait till it has been out for a year or so before you buy it. The kinks get worked out during that time. A lot of times anyway.
After your video, I took my 12 round Mags for the 2.0 and took a nail clipper as you showed and clipped mine as🎉 you did. Now no more problems like you were having. Thank you for the very helpful video!
I'm sure anybody with any of those issues will be happy with this video because It looks like 2 easy fixes. So keep doing what you're doing. There's always going to be haters, GOD BLESS
@ things happen and anything that it man made can fail. But this is happening too much and it seems to be a lack of quality control. Thank you for stopping by.
@MDpolo totally agree. Would you rather bet your life on a .1% or a 1%? Any gun I've had problems with out if the box is no longer in my possession. Thanks for the video, but if the manufacturer doesn't care, it says something about them, doesn't it?
I'm so glad I found this video because I bought my Bodyguard 2.0 tonight, shot it at the range, field stripped it, and am having the exact same problem with a failure to compress the recoil spring on the guide rod. I couldn't figure out why the guide rod and recoil spring wouldn't compress so that I could reinstall the guide rod onto the barrel lug. I even removed the guide rod from the guide rod hole on the front of the slide so I could isolate the guide rod away from the rest of the gun. I then placed the muzzle end of the guide rod on the mouse pad on my desk with the guide rod vertical and pressed the top (lug) end of the guide rod with about 80% of my strength, and it didn't compress at all. That's when I searched and found this video and learned about the issue regarding the slide hole end of the recoil spring getting stuck between the slide hole and the edge of the T shaped end on the muzzle side of the guide rod. Multiple times, I had to use a punch to maneuver the end of the spring so that it was under the rather than just beside it, then replace the barrel in the slide, place the guide rod into the hole near the muzzle, and see if I could then compress the guide rod and spring enough to seat the other side of the rod on the barrel lug. The first two times it didn't work because when I'd try to seat the guide rod in the slide hole, the spring would just click back to its former jammed position. I wondered if rotating the guide rod would help because it might rotate the end of the spring away from whatever was clicking it into the jammed position. So each time I tried to reseat it, I'd rotate it a little. Finally it worked on the third try. Honestly, though, I'm quite nervous about this brand new pistol now. The last thing I want is to be using this in a self defense situation and have the spring jam up the compression of the guide rod. I'm concerned that my decision to buy this tonight may have been a bad one and whether I should have stuck with a make and model of micro compact that has had many years of testing behind it.
Same here. I just ran 350 range rounds through mine and it got slightly looser. I had 15% feeding failures with Fiocchi FMJ. Then did a thorough cleaning and re-oiling, and there's a significant difference in the racking. I suspect it needs a few hundred extra racks to fully loosen up.
Thank you for this very helpful tutorial! Appreciated how you coordinated visuals to illustrate exactly what you were saying. Smith & Wesson owes you a hearty thanks for cleaning up a couple of qc failures that frustrated customers. Unfortunately, our gun culture has its share of mean spirited folks. Glad you stood up, and civilly told them to take a hike. You provide a meaningful service, and we applaud you for it. Thank you, Sir. Look forward to more content from you.
Thank you so much for this video. I have had my Bodyguard 2.0 for a short while, and I experienced the same issue with the guide rod as you described. Now, thanks to you, I will be able to fix the problem. Other than this misstep by S&W, I love this pistol. Thanks again... .
Thank you so much for the info. I don't own a bodyguard but I have been looking at all the info being put out on you tube. You've solved a couple of the problems they were having. I've just recently subscribed to your channel but I will be following it in the future. You can't ask for more than honest and accurate information, thanks again.
Luckily I have not had the magazine issue, but I DO have the recoil spring problem. I just looked and it's this problem. You just saved me from having to send it in. Thank you!
It was an easy fix when you actually look at it and figure it out yourself. If you are NOT mechanically inclined, you would not be able to fix this on your own. Mechanically inclined people have the ability to see things and identify where the issue is and most of the time know how to fix it on their own or find someone that can fix it after you tell them what the problem is.
Well said. I always learn something new from your videos, and I appreciate the integrity in your reviews. I'm sure we all hate it when a firearm we like or want to like, doesn't pan out. Sometimes the truth hurts and some people just seem unable to accept that. In the meantime, the rest of us will just press on and continue to enjoy our time here. 👍👍
I did not have an Issue with my 12 round mag like you But I must admit I did have trouble getting that 12th round to go even with my Loading Tool! I just keep 11 in the mag with one in the chamber which is OK for Me! That recoil spring was another issue I had to overcome! At first it took me a half-hour to finally get it in and I could not understand why this was so hard to do. I did get some positive feedback on this issue But this video has been the Best, showing how that spring gets caught on the end! The one other thing was how extremely hard it was for me to rack the slide! Yes, I'm 80 years old with some Nerve Damage in my Hand & Fingers but I overcame this by leaving the slide locked back and by shooting several hundred rounds, it has been easier too rack. I do love this Gun and nI shoot every week at my LGR and I now use this gun as my EDC! Thanks for this Great Video!
I was surprised how stiff the slide was also. After cleaning and lubricating it was easier. I’ve only had mine 2 days and haven’t shot it yet but have been manipulating the slide and the safety a little and they are getting easier to manipulate. I’ve also been leaving the slide lock the back to help. Keeping the mags loaded should help with those springs and followers also. I love this “baby M&P” pistol!😂❤
Excellent explanation and video. Thank you. I had the same follower issue on the 12-round mag. Since I always field strip, inspect, and completely clean and lubricate my firearms and the mags before ever firing a shot, I discovered the binding issue in just a matter of minutes after trying to load the mag. I fixed it by filing off the little tip of the follower with a nail file. I had it fixed in less the 2 minutes. The other issue I had was the spring assembly and guide rod. I could not get the spring assembly to seat on top of the barrel upon reassembly. After a couple minutes I carefully examined the tip of the spring that fits under the guide rod cap that is inserted into the slide, and figured out was causing the spring to not compress enough to clip the rear guide rod cap to the barrel. The end of the spring is twisted and would not fit under the front cap of the guide rod. This took a little pushing with a tiny flat head screwdriver to get the end of the spring to fit and stay under the guide rod cap. Being very disappointed in these two issues, I called S&W Customer Service. It was obvious that the gal I spoke with was not interested in any of my feedback. With no empathy or apology, she offered to send out a spring assembly. I explained the issue with the 12-round mag follower, and she didn’t even comment. That was August 28. 16 days later I received the replacement spring assembly, it’s the same part. I have about 200 rounds of 3 different ammo through it and it has worked flawlessly. The amount of grip and force it takes to rack the slide is insane. At 15.3 ozs with 13 rounds may be as good as it gets for a super lightweight pocket carry. The design of the spring assembly looks like a failure and the defective 12-round follower is a serious lack of quality control. The lack of quality control on one of S&W’s most raved about firearms is disappointing and unacceptable. I’ve owned firearms since 1977. This is the first S&W firearm I’ve purchased and I most likely will never buy another Smith & Wesson firearm. At this point, I'm not sure this is the right pocket carry for me.
Like you i found the force needed to rack the slide intolerable. S& W sending me a replacement spring assembly. Some folks say it will loosen up with use. Rear sight is off and can't adjust it even with punch and hammer. How it can leave the factory this way is beyond me.
Had the same issue with my 12 rd magazine the one it came with and an extra I bought I just used a maglula uplula and gave it a lot of pressure and that little piece broke right off then they ran great have not checked out the guide rod THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS OUT saved lots of stress
I bought mine last week and went to my range twice the week. Out of the box, the recoil spring had this issue and I was able to put the end back into the slot. And the slide was almost impossible to lock back. I finally was able to using gloves and kept it locked back for a week along with keeping the mags fully loaded. All three springs have relaxed a bit and I put over 250 rounds through the mini M&P with only one FTF from the first mag. It’s a keeper but I had my doubts at first. Thanks for the good info!
This is truly an excellent video I am so glad to see it and will be inspecting my 2.0 once it arrives in order to resolve this immediately as required. Keep up these videos they are really quality content. 👍🏽
Thanks for the info - I have both of these issues with my 2.0 and spoke with S&W yesterday. They were very helpful and shipped a new recoil spring yesterday. It will be interesting to see if the new spring no longer overlaps the stop. They also sent me instructions on how to return the mags. I will be doing the simple fix you shared and avoid the trouble of returning my mags. Sorry people attack you for no apparent reason - I guess it easy to attack when you are anonymous instead of face to face. Thanks again for the help.
It makes me happy to hear that they are taking care of you. I received my replacement 12 round mag via two day Federal Express. The fact that I have the same problem as the first one is a different issue. Almost 4 weeks later and I’m still waiting for my replacement guide rod. Thank you very much for watching.
Thank you for solving those issues. This is very informative for me. Keep up the good work and ignore the critics. S&W quality control isn't what it used to be.
Thanks for the video. Great to get more first hand experiences. Glad you are getting the gun working more how it should out of the box. Happy shooting.
Well said I had same two issues. Called S&W told me to field strip mag ; rotate the spring on the follower . At my age of 86 don’t have the strength and dexterity as you young strong guys. After about 1/2 hr got it done. Thank you on the second issue for me to fix. That was a problem also. Still enjoying the sport with my grandson. Frank
I will be buying a 2.0 in January. Thank you for the detailed explanation of the two problems you detected. I'm sure that you have saved many folks much frustration with the pistol.
I appreciate people putting fixes up. My brand new bodyguard had a safety so stiff you could hardly move it. Went to UA-cam and quickly found the solution from others with the same problem.
I found this video to be absolutely spot on with the issues That I also head. Quality of your up close video was excellent and your solutions it worked. Stand your ground my friend you have a quality product In what you present and how you present it. I think you and I am subscribed and looking forward to your videos. Stand your ground !!!
Just bought the gun and two extra 12 round magazines all three had the issue of only being able to load the two bullets. Thanks for coming up with the solution in a clear and concise manner.
I called Smith & Wesson. They sent me a return authorization and within five days. I had brand new magazines from them. Let’s give credit when customer service is very good.
Thank you for the info on the 12 round magazine, only had mines about a week and just took it to the range and was having one hell of a time trying to load the 12 round magazine.
Thanks very much for pointing out the issues w/ your Bodyguard 2.0, and you are being very helpful to the gun community! I'm a female G43X owner w/ small hands, and I've been considering adding this platform due to concealability and ease of use, but clearly S&W has quality control issues. Another issue that I've been hearing about is the front sight being off center. If they fix these issues, then this will be a great little cc option for many. Keep on doing what you are doing!
Same two hiccups with mine. Both identified quickly and addressed. As I recall both mags had the follower hanging up in the mag catch cutout. Also, I had one of those that shot quite a bit to the left, that was also corrected by drifting the off-center front sight.
2:40 Had the SAME issue and after messing with it for 5 min wondering WTF ... i saw that the bottom side "tip" of the follower was hitting the magazine opening/cutout and was getting snagged there, so i got my Jonard cutting shears and snipped that tip off so it would not grab and hang there anymore ... JUST LIKE you mentioned Problem FIXED .. The 10 round does not have this issue, ONLY the 12 rounder Same with the guide rod, 1st time it was fine when i open to clean it and lube it for 1st time shooting. Got home, took it apart to clean and the guide rod was STIFF and would NOT compress ... WTF ... Mine i just started to TWIST the spring around to maybe undo what might of got stuck ..??? And it worked ... i guess my twisting it, the end of that spring moved back into place where it should have been and it worked.
@@MDpolo after going to the gun range yesterday, i took it home and opened it up to clean and lube and the second i pulled the recoil spring out, it got jammed again ...!!! So 2 times i pulled that recoil spring out and both times it got jammed. what i think is going on is that when its compressed, it works fine, but when you yank it off and it expands out, it then gets STUCK and its a PITA to get it compressed again. Otherwise yes i am enjoying it, its a tiny gun that fits my hand. Just waiting on the sight pusher to align these sights because its shooting LEFT
Thanks for your work! Understanding these minor issues are annoying and should not occur, but at least owners can see your video - and the fixes are easy to perform.
IT WORKED!!! Just left the range. Clipped it just like he said as accurate to his as I could. Did it to both of the mags. I was worried at first that I bought the BG2.0 too soon, but I’m good now. Guide rod fixed itself when I cleaned it, but it was definitely the same issue
My BG 2.0 12 round magazine was very difficult to fully load to 12 rounds. After keeping it loaded for 3 weeks, and using it at the range, it is much better now. Still not as easy to load as an LCP Max 12 rounder. But I can load the BG 2.0 to 12 by hand now. I didn't have the issue with the follower or guide rod (yet), but I will know what to look for now. Thank you.
Yeah this gun did have problems I seen this everywhere and all of them eight-page agreements with the NDA has clogged up everybody's mind thinking it's the best thing since sliced bread. In multiple people are having the same issues. Great video you do you .
So glad I saw your video. I was about to buy this gun but I’m not going to buy something that is flawed from the factory. Even though these fixes seem simple until S&W fixes these issues I’m not buying it.

Most companies from guns to cars and whatever also have constancy issues during assembly by inconsistent humans.

sadly most YT cowboys dont have the brain capacity to understand what you said ...
I had already figured out the mag issue. I did not know about the spring, though. Thanks for that info. It's something to watch for. Great video!
I appreciate that very much. Thank you for watching!
After your video, I took my 12 round Mags for the 2.0 and took a nail clipper as you showed and clipped mine as🎉 you did. Now no more problems like you were having. Thank you for the very helpful video!

@@MDpolo Thanks for sharing that fix for the spring.... You're the only one who has shown that.
Probably shouldn't be required to fix a new gun. Especially since you need to trust it 100%.

I'm considering purchasing a Bodyguard 2.0 and appreciate the video. 👍
You are most welcome. I really hope it helps and make sure experience better. Thank you so much for stopping by.
I called Smith & Wesson. They sent me a return authorization and within five days. I had brand new magazines from them. Let’s give credit when customer service is very good.
Thanks for the information regarding the troubleshooting and solutions
I’ve seen odd issues with this gun. I want to love it and think it’s a great design overall. Glad I found your video as it’s now back on my wish list.
Thanks for your problems and the way you took care of it. I guess I got one and have had no problems. Thanks so much and God Bless you.
I am very happy that yours is working well. I really, truly wanted this to work. Thank you very much for stopping by.
Thanks to show the issues with this BG 2.0, they are easy fix. I'm planning to get one soon for CCW
Good job, i too experienced same thing. Thankyou for sharing!
Thank you so much either way this excellent explanation.
Thanks for the information. Good to know
Guide rod issue I have is the exact same! Thank you!
Glad you caught those qc issues, and passed on the solutions.
You’re welcome. Thank you for watching.
Thank you for the info on the 12 round magazine, only had mines about a week and just took it to the range and was having one hell of a time trying to load the 12 round magazine.
I appreciate the video!
Informative videos are needed before making such a big purchase.
You are most welcome. I’m glad it was of help. Thank you for stopping by.
Mine shoot left of target
Left of bullseye
@@garyivy6875 Exactly...front sight needs adjusting...
Thank you for sharing, always!
My pleasure!
Great video. SUBSCRIBED!
Thank you. Very helpful.
You are providing a great service to the gun community. Just ignore the self appointed gun experts out there.
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Quite a simple fix! Thanks for sharing! I don’t have a Bodyguard but am looking at them for a possible buy in the future
You bet! Thank you very much for stopping by.
Very informational! Thanks
Same two hiccups with mine. Both identified quickly and addressed. As I recall both mags had the follower hanging up in the mag catch cutout. Also, I had one of those that shot quite a bit to the left, that was also corrected by drifting the off-center front sight.
Thanks for educating
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching.

Had the SAME issue and after messing with it for 5 min wondering WTF ... i saw that the bottom side "tip" of the follower was hitting the magazine opening/cutout and was getting snagged there, so i got my Jonard cutting shears and snipped that tip off so it would not grab and hang there anymore ... JUST LIKE you mentioned
Problem FIXED ..
The 10 round does not have this issue, ONLY the 12 rounder
Same with the guide rod, 1st time it was fine when i open to clean it and lube it for 1st time shooting.
I’m glad you got it worked out. Are you still enjoying it? Thank you so much for stopping by.
Awesome. Thanks for actually fixing what S&M should have sorted out.
Thanks for your work! Understanding these minor issues are annoying and should not occur, but at least owners can see your video - and the fixes are easy to perform.
I just ordered a bodyguard 2.0, thank you for laying your issues and fixes in a concise manner.
Thanks, I appreciate your instructions about the 12 Mag!
You are most welcome!
This is outstanding information, please keep making videos, you are a very valuable source on information for all of us! Thanks!
Very informative video. Thanks for sharing.
You’re very welcome. Thank you very much for stopping by.
Good comeback! I was questioning about purchasing after the first video. Thanks for clarifying! Not so reluctant anymore as I really do like the gun!
Thanks for your video!
Thank you. I appreciate your sharing solutions to these problems.
That’s awesome! Thank you very much for stopping by
Had both those problems, SW is sending me a new follower.
Update S&W actually sent me a new 12 round mag, not a follower, thanx S&W. Works perfectly.
Thank you for a great video and passing along your experience. We need more people that are problem solvers and not just a complainer.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you very much for stopping by.
update the spring is fixed also thanks for the help
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching.
Thanks for the information. I haven't had a problem
But just in case u educated me! Appreciate your hard work
awesome - thank you Sir.
Appreciate the info!
Excellent review, honest and to the point. Keep the good work.
Excellent video thank you Frank from NY
Thnk you for your detailed explanation.
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching.
Yes, keep it up !
Thank you.
Good video. I’m thinking about buying one of these.
Yeah this gun did have problems I seen this everywhere and all of them eight-page agreements with the NDA has clogged up everybody's mind thinking it's the best thing since sliced bread.
In multiple people are having the same issues. Great video you do you .
I appreciate that very much. Thank you for watching.
So glad I saw your video. I was about to buy this gun but I’m not going to buy something that is flawed from the factory. Even though these fixes seem simple until S&W fixes these issues I’m not buying it.
I have one of these on order, as my wife’s carry. Glad for the heads up.
very helpful and clear. better than most
My 12-rd mag has EXACTLY the same "protruding follower" issue. Glad I came across your video and channel.
Awesome video!
Awesome fix! Thanks for sharing!
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching!
