When I saw one of your videos the first time, I thought you guys were a joke, so silly. My husband passed away last August and he did all the manly stuff when we pulled our 35 footer fifth wheel. And I wanted to get busy doing it myself, as an old lady on the road with 2 dogs. And, with the help of UA-cam, I did it! But I gotta tell ya, I sat for half a day yesterday watching your videos. Full of good tips and entertaining as well. I see myself and can laugh at all of us. Thanks for being there for us, especially me. Yes, I finally subscribed! Oh my goodness, you two are so cute! 😂

Just started watching you on your trip to Alaska , of course going through Canada. First welcome....we love hearing how your trip is going. We live in Alberta. Love the mountains. I just wanted to say we did the same thing, full time RVing, for 30 years before settling down and finally sadly stopped. Still have the rig with all those memories. We totally toured North America. My advice is go go go have a whale of a time. We stopped at age of 83...

Whitehorse Yukon to Tok AK is no joke! The frost heaves and pot holes can and will cripple you in the middle of no where. You will not see it until its too late. Do not travel this in the dark all though it should be daylight most of the day right now. Especially from Haines Junction to Tok the frost heaves are many feet high. Have an emergency communication device or Sat phone. SLOW and I mean SLOWer that the guy who just passed you! Other that, enjoy! Stop at the hot springs Laird River Hot Springs Provincial Park.

The method I use for figuring travel time is to divide the number of miles to travel by 50mph. This allows for fuel, potty, and food breaks. I normally set cruise at 62-63 mph.

Snacks and lunch...yes! We travel in a Motorhome and it's a game changer to have access to snacks while you're driving and then lunch time is awesome...we stop at a Rest Area, fire up the generator and make sandwiches inside.

Driving up the Al-Can is so beautiful. Tons of scenery and wild life. My husband and I have traveled up and down the Al-Can. Our last trip up was in June 2019. The most important thing to watch out for are the "frost heaves". We pulled our 39 ft Jayco Eagle Premier. About those frost heaves, essentially sections of highway that have lifted due to the perma frost "swelling" literally a "speed bump" which sometimes you can't see until it's too late. When a posted speed sign says 40 mph PAY ATTENTION. Hitting a frost heave going too fast can literally lift a slideout off it's gears, throwing items around the inside of your rig not to mention bending axles on the 5th wheel. Don't ask me how we know!!! I hope your using the Milepost for the entire round trip, you'll never have a more concise directions mile by mile, open gas stations, grocery stores, air pumps, oil, etc. Never go up or down the Al-Can without the Milepost!!!
Good luck, have a good time and be safe.

  • @andyrussell6789
    @andyrussell6789 Рік тому +2

Get rid of the broom for sweeping off your slide's, I used to do that also and then I bought a little battery powered leaf blower it's the best thing I bought for the fifth wheel, gotta get one.

Another tip is to not place items, such as a coffee cup, on the truck rear bumper. It is easy to forget about them and then they are gone forever when heading down the road.

We have just passed 13 months on the road and are currently spending the summer at an RV park in our old home town area in upstate NY. This fall, we are headed west and will tour most of Route 66 from Chicago to Arizona. It will include a Grand Design Rally in Springfield, Illinois in September and conclude with a visit to the Grand Canyon in late October. Then we'll slowly wander back east and sneak in an axle upgrade in Elkhart in the end of November. After that - Jan - Mar in Port Richey Fla working on our tans.
We'll be using many of your travel day trips. We're usually packed up the night before, try to stick to less than 300 miles traveled a day and make use of the TSD Logistics Fuel program.

Outside talking and walking is good…just don’t try to chew gum at the same time!
    - always fuel up the evening before(we were evacuated from two national parks in one trip..the second time I hadn’t fueled up because we didn’t want to be late for an event. Not a good experience.
    - apps are such a life saver compared to years ago when much of a trip was by gosh and by golly.
All good advise. Thanks, and safe journey

I have done Alaska about 4 times, once did the ride from Colorado on a motorcycle. Only thing I can say is Frost heaves, They can launch you, really. Also, I would have a extra fuel tank of at least 50 gallons for the trip. You probably know about the Mile Post magazine, it is worth the money. Good luck

Will you be coming to Valdez, Alaska? My husband and I work at the KOA here in Valdez! We just mad the drive a couple of weeks ago. Remember, the most stressful driving is from Destruction Bay, Yukon (about 100 miles to the USA border), then about another 75 miles, once you cross into Alaska to the town of Tok, AK. Just take your time!!! At some spots, we only averaged 30 mph because of the Frost Heaves and potholes. We made the journey without anything major broken! It's an EPIC adventure!! Safe travels!

Hanks going back to the "old skool" walking and talking format. You guys used to do that in your early videos, personally, I like it. Bonecrusher and I are also going to Canada next week, just on the opposite coast. Heading out June 6th from Philly to Acadia, then June 9th, we cross into New Brunswick. Hitting New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia (peninsula, and Cape Brenton Island). Gonna be on the road for 3 weeks, super excited. First time driving our RV into another Country. Safe travels Team Hanks!!

I always said Alaska would be the last place I’d want to travel to. We used to have a travel trailer with an unreliable truck so it wasn’t on our list. Now we have a class A 30’ gasser and we’re broadening our horizons. We haven’t got a toad because we don’t need a new car yet and ours doesn’t conform. I’ll be glad to follow your trip and see what it has to offer.

Hi Hanks, I've been binging your vids since I found you guys. I love the great real-life information. My wife [Nurse] and I are both retired and have just done our first Snowbird RV winter. We still talk about the great time we had and are planning next year's trip already. You are absolutely right, it's not for every couple ;). Not sure if you've done this but it would be great to see a spreadsheet of the delta between using all of the club/C/C discounts vs. not. We have already realized savings using Harvest Host [the Alpaca Farm] and gas cards. I'm retired military so I also have access to camps at military bases which is very affordable and super secure. Keep up the lifestyle vids guys. I love seeing a young couple having a great life. Can't wait to see your Alaska experience. BTW, Buc-ees is outstanding!

Definitely agree with the one tip about filling up your tow vehicle the night before. If you don’t do this you may be unwilling to back track to get gas and end up heading across eastern Oregon (which I can now say is more desolate than eastern Colorado) with only 1/2 tank of gas and having the privilege of seeing the “low fuel” light come on. Not that this is experience speaking ….

Love love love you two! We are semi retired and take multiple trips a year in our 21' trailer. This year is our bucket list trip to AK. So glad to see you doing the same this year. Covid held us back the past 2 years. Leaving MO the first part of July, but not sure where we will cross into Canada based on fires and flooding...will know closer to departure date. We are doing a "Hanks" trip...no reservations. But that is how we usually travel. Boondocking fits our style, and will be doing a lot of it on this trip. We travel with Molly, our 7yr old, 72lb black Lab. She is a great traveler and camper. I have to make her stay in the house while loading the camper because if she gets in the camper, she doesn't want to come out. She's a goober, 😂. Safe travels and I'll be watching your trip!

Oh labor day weekend in Florida is off season, all the parks have availability from about April to November/December. You won't find a place last minute when the snow birds descend.

Kind of planned trip. First part figured out: House sold, RV picked, being picked up at the end of July. On the road in October. That's as far as we got. Thanks, Hanks, for your awesome, funny, and informative videos. Hubby and I love them.

Great tips! Not sure what route you’re taking to Alaska but we’re in Alberta now. Dinosaur Provincial Park in the badlands is a-ma-zing! The hill descending into the campground is not for the faint of heart. We were told scenes from the Robin Williams movie were shot here. Pair it with a visit to the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller (not the same place, but not that far) for the true dino-nerds.

I love your videos. I do not have a RV yet. I realized in March that i want to live full time in one and started watching UA-cam to get tips about how to travel to other parts of the country, and i have learned a lot from your content. Thank you. So once i get my RV i will be going south for the winter because i live in Maine. That will be my trip at some point!

If you are going to Alaska be sure to but the Mile Post. It tells you every mile and what is there. See bears, gas and so on.

Quick tip; get a battery blower and use to blow debris off your slide outs…you can retire the broom! 😂
