Uncanny Omar, thanks for doing these type of videos. I was on the fence about this volume, but seeing the awesome design, the contents, and the beautiful reproduction of these comics, I'm sold. (Your recent video on The Art of Star Wars convinced me to order that volume.) A couple of comments: 1) The pages that you flipped through in the back were from the short-lived 50's Atlas revival of the Human Torch. I can't imagine that all of the 40's Torch stories are contained in this volume, so that seems like an odd decision to include those at the end. (As you indicated, Burgos did touch ups, but this was primarily Dick Ayers' art. 2) Burgos did a couple of Marvel comics in the 60's, but could not get along with Stan Lee. He became the editor and primary artist for Myron Fass' various publications such as TALES OF VOODOO and TALES FROM THE TOMB. These were skid row knock offs of Warren publications that I remember seeing as a kid at convenience stores. (They were too low rent for the drug stores and convenience stores that carried Warren's fine publications.) The art was awful and the covers typically had ghouls putting a girl in a meat grinder, a vampire taking off half of a girl's neck or some poor soul on an operating table with their intestines spilled out on the side. I could only look at a couple of pages of these magazines, before I slipped them back on the shelf. I occasionally see these magazines at conventions (and at least once at Half Price Books in a display case!), but I can't imagine why anyone would collect these. There was a coffee table book about Myron Fass (a real character) and his publications by Mike Howlett which came out a couple of years ago. 3) Regarding photos of Steve Ditko, the recent issue of Roy Thomas' Alter Ego has a couple of recent photos (not great) of Ditko taken by a fan as he is entering his apartment. This issue is dedicated to Steve Ditko, and is highly recommended for all of the great info about Ditko.
I promised myself I'd get ONE of these books and this is the one. Or maybe that Subby book....or that Simon and Kirby book. DAMMIT MARVEL, WHY DO YOU TORMENT ME SO? By the way, I TOTALLY agree with your assessment of Roy Thomas. (4 page introduction? That's short for Roy.) Toro's real name is Thomas Raymond so it's a combination and shorting of his name, is what I always assumed.
Great video Omar. The omnibus line really shines when obscure comics are being restored and made available to the public. Alas, i am not planning on buying any of those 3 golden age omni's yet, the price is too steep and there are other omnis that i would like to get first. Your videos at least have made me (and your viewers in general) aware of the perfect restoration of such old material.
Great overview Omar. I would love to have all 3 with those classic looking striped dust jackets. Unfortunately the price point is out of my reach plus no guarantee that I'd get the cover I wanted. The content is quite huge in these Omnis. Cheers mate 😊
Fun fact! These golden age comic stories are not part of Marvel continuity. They are actually said to be ‘in universe’ comic stories based upon the ‘real’ heroes which existed then.
Nice!! Like to get this one (Subby is on the shelf), I wasn't that excited about the Simon & Kirby but hey, can't argue with a 'perfectly lined up' trio ...
Great video, can't wait to get the book. So much better than the originals (and definitely the reprints in the Fantasy Masterpieces in the 60s). Be interesting to see how the stories fare in comparison to Sub Mariner and if the stories flow from issue to issue as with SM.
@@NearMintCondition Yes, it was a big improvement in reading GA books. I can only hope there is a similar feel with the Human Torch. The GA Sub Mariner probably has to be favourite ever GA read. Again, thanks for your super useful videos !
Awesome review. I am really enjoying the Sub Mariner omni and I am looking forward to the rest. The stories are very of their time, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Hey Omar! Thank you for the video. Can't wait to get my hands on the book. Can you explain what the overlap is within the various Timely Omnibuses and the Captain America Golden Age Omnibus and the Marvel Comics Golden Age Omnibus? I have read what they collect but based on the page counts of these omnibuses, the collections don't really seem to make much sense. I have the Namor Omnibus and the Simon and Kirby Omnibus and am planning on picking up the Human Torch Omnibus. I do not have the Golden Age Captain America Omnibus and the Golden Age Marvel Comics Omnibus. Should I pick those up if I get all the Timely Omnibuses? Thank you!
I would pick up the captain america, the overlap is there, but it contains past the Kirby issues. As far as the Marvel Comics Golden Age, that's the one I would pass on. As you have the big three.
Hey Omar you ever checked out the Dark Horse Anthology books? Like Dark Horse book of monster/witchcraft/horror? I recently got into the Beast of Burden hardcovers but they dropped you in mid story and I found out they were debuted on those dark horse anthologies.
I have the Subby one, on the back cover of the human torch one it lists almost the same comics and issue numbers as in the Subby book. Are there many repeats in the HT book that are already in the Subby book?

I want to thank you for you time you took to calrify about Burgos. Seriously. Thank you so much for watching.
These golden age books are awesome
The restoration on the is phenomenal.
Oh my Lord, how I love this stuff!!! I can't wait to get mine! Thank you Omar!
I promised myself I'd get ONE of these books and this is the one.

WHY DO YOU TORMENT ME SO?
By the way, I TOTALLY agree with your assessment of Roy Thomas. (4 page introduction? That's short for Roy.)

The man is really a national treasure.
Absolutely f**n beautiful!!!
They really are.
I love these golden age books! Can't wait for them to be released!
They are coming, brother.

Thank you so much for the kind words.
So does Omar read his books or just “line them up perfectly” on his shelf?
HAHAHAHA I can't even line them up perfectly half the time. :)
Great overview Omar. I would love to have all 3 with those classic looking striped dust jackets. Unfortunately the price point is out of my reach plus no guarantee that I'd get the cover I wanted. The content is quite huge in these Omnis. Cheers mate 😊
Cheers back to you my brother.

Love that fun fact.
marvel is doing a great job with these, every collection needs golden age and silver age, comic book history
They are killing it with these collections.
Nice!! Like to get this one (Subby is on the shelf), I wasn't that excited about the Simon & Kirby but hey, can't argue with a 'perfectly lined up' trio ...
They do look great together.
Really damn excited about these books
They are amazing.

It was interesting to see them separeted.

Very of their time is right. :)
Thanks amigo for these videos of the golden age. Cool
Thank you so much for watching.
Awesome review Mate!😉☮️
Thank you, sir.
Interesting currently reading the invaders complete collection
I wonder if they'll do an omnibus of the Invaders.
Hey Omar, are you gonna get that Jim Lee XXL X-Men book to review? I'm on the fence so it would be good to get a quick review to see if it's worth it.
I can always ask.

johnny stewait mentor saga toro or toroc ?
Toro. :)

I use to get their manga anthologies.
Late question..but is the same as the Marvel Golden Age vol 1 omnibus??
Different material.
I have the Subby one, on the back cover of the human torch one it lists almost the same comics and issue numbers as in the Subby book. Are there many repeats in the HT book that are already in the Subby book?
One thing to keep in mind is that they include same comics, but different parts of the comic. I hope that makes sense.
@@NearMintCondition thank you, yes it does 😀👍
What does it mean when these books say post or pre war years?
Seems to me that it is a fancier way for them to say Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.
Material published before and after America's involvement in the Second World War
I see Mike has you !
These are sick.
They are awesome.
Why you don’t collect the DC golden age omnibuses?
I used to have the Golden Age omnis but I ended up selling them as I had tried readidng them multiple times and it just wasn't for me.
Yeah I heard it’s hard to read them.
Has anyone ever actually read any of theses Timely omnis? Are they as difficult to read as the DC golden age omnis?
Not as difficult as those DC ones. Believe me.
Just finished the first volume. The Sub-Mariner book is a decent read (it will never win a Booker prize), I hope the HT ones will be similar.
Going to skip these, but great video dude
Thanks my dood.
The restoration ruins the original artwork and coloring. The only proper way to release these materials is by scanning the original comics.
I think this was discussed in an earlier video. For some books the scans is as good as they could get and a restoration had to be done.
