Hi! I’ve been watching videos, including yours, to help me decide on which camera I should get. I’m a beginner and enjoy taking photos using my iPhone 12, but I’m looking to upgrade to a mirrorless camera like the canon m50. Should I buy it this year or wait for a better one a few years from now since I really wanna up my photography but I’m willing to wait for a better one. Any suggestion?
I completely agree! Yes, there are cameras in that price range that have better specs, but nothing comes close to the M50 Mark II in terms of usability. The color, autofocus, flip-out touchscreen, and price make it a no-brainer IMO.
I saw your first video on the Canon M50, and immediately wen't out and bought one. Now I have 2 and am getting more and more creative with my work everyday because of how awesome it is to use. Thank you for pushing this camera, they have helped me get the basics, and I'm still growing with them everyday
gonna get the M50 II tomorrow. I have the option of buying the body only, or with one or two lenses. I think the lens is important (you get what you pay for). If I were to buy only one lens, would it be part of the kit, or separate - and if so, which one ?
I started looking for a camera for my yt channel. Long story short. You are my go to guy. I love how you explain things in depth and easy to listen too. Thank you!
I just bought this camera a couple weeks back, largely due to your videos and reasons within! I'm completely new to photography, and only recently developed an interest in trying my hand at it, as well as streaming, and this camera seemed like the perfect tool to start learning. So far the camera has been fantastic, really makes learning f-stops, shutter speed and ISO easier. The only real complaint I have so far is the ergonomics of actually using the body - I have larger hands, and I've found the grip to be a little too shallow for me, making it really hard to reach buttons, especially the turn-dial around the shutter button. It would have been the perfect camera if the dial was built into the navigation-pad of the body!
Only after watching this video. Excellent review. I bought the mark 2 last week and an ef-s adapter to use my sigma 70-300 lens. I upgraded from an eos 600d (rebel t3i). Love it so far. I live in Ireland and will definitely put the camera to the test. Thanks

4:35 What about upscaling to 4k? I am seriously thinking about getting the M50 again, recording in 1080, and upscaling to 4k. That way UA-cam gives the better codec for my video uploads. I don't think anyone has talked about that with the M50. UA-cam downgrades 1080 pretty bad.
These videos have been great! Looking for a camera to 'grow into'. Having a difficult time deciding between the M50 MKii, the a6600, or a6100. I like the idea of image stabilization with a6600 in video but also love the price point of the bundle packages for M50.
I'm going to buy the m50mk ii on the first of September as a second camera because a dslr is to heavy to carry arround. This video was really helpfull and i can't wait anymore to buy it thanks to your video. U explained everything so well and u opened my eyes. Thanks!
I would like if you made a video about canon sticking to efm mount in cheaper APC cameras, or making cheap RF mount camera. And you could make a new video about lenses, for efm mount too😁

I think I watched 10+ of your videos back to back. My wife thinks I'm crazy (or lazy), but damn, this is research! But now I'm even more confused to which one to buy. Is there a camera that checks all these boxes? 1. Mirrorless 2. Easy of use 3. Great color accuracy (really like Canon's colors) 5. Fast auto focus 6. Articulating LCD 7. Minimum 1080p 24, 30, 60fps 8. Minimum 4K 30fps full frame either natively or with the use of a lens 9. Fast burst shots 10. Clean HDMI out 11. Under $800 Help!!! Thanks!!! 😁 11.
I have been thinking of getting this camera for my live streaming but wasn't sure as I am not a camera expert at all. This video has me sold on it, thanks for the good information!
Thank you for making this video 📹. I'm looking to start taking pictures and videos for vacations and maybe starting a UA-cam channel. Your video was very informative and helpful in making a decision on which camera to buy as a starter camera.
Currently just have the SL1, didn't realize how old it was till I started looking into new cameras haha. I'm really going to lean into my youtube channel, but also stream art stuff as well. Thanks for the review and info!
Interesting review. I use Canon SX70 superzoom, 6D, and gopro8 presently but may pic up a smaller camera soon here in the Philippines. One needs to be aware of the "gray" market here.
Reall hood video I’m in the market for a beginner camera. From doing my research n watching your videos I’m confident in making the M50 mark 2 the camera 📸 for me to start with.
Didn't you make a video saying that you got disappointed when the Canon M50 MKII came out because its basically the same as MKI with just minor software tweaks?
Yes. My disappointment with progress is one line of thought. This camera being a good fit for a lot of users is another. (ex. I may not like the fact that 4k still has a crop and poor autofocus but I also know that many users don't want/need 4k). Hope that makes sense.
The M50 was my first experience at a semi-professional mirrorless camera and I mainly used it for streaming, but was disappointed by the lack of clean HDMI. I figured I could just use the micro-USB cable that I bought separately along with the dummy battery but I wasn't too keen on the quality of the camera's picture through USB. So I returned that and exchanged it for the Mark II. Holy damn what a difference. While functionally the cameras are almost the exact same to one another, the additional features for content creation that's included in the Mark II makes it an astronomically better value for me and, with it plugged into a capture card, I'm able to get that rich quality at 1080p 60fps. The Mark II is such a great camera.
My friend, as i understand you, i have my channel a short time ago and started because of tips like yours for buying the Canon M50, without realizing anything if cameras have been learning over time to work on it, and nowadays I am almost an "expert" with regard to this camera, nowadays I wanted a new camera for the 2nd camera and I'm tired of looking and there is nothing like this camera and what it offers within this price! Thanks for your videos, keep up the great work! Greetings 👊
Hello, love this video. I’m very close to purchasing this, but I want to make sure. Would you prefer this to someone doing night time paranormal investigations?
Awesome! I wanted a camera that was easy to use. Had a lot of overheating issues on the A6000 that it was bugging me. This seems to tick all the boxes and a lot of camera for the money. Thanks heaps
Yeahhhh...I'm probably going to buy an M50 mkii...The mki I have is ok, but there are a few of those features I really like. Maybe I'll just leave my mki on attached to my weebill s. I'm working on a new baseplate for the weebill s that will allow me to change the battery and memory card without taking everything apart (I'm an aerospace machinist by trade). Prototype should be done in a few days and then the fun part of testing begins! Your videos are always super informative! Keep em coming!
This is a general question about lenses. Would Canon lenses be cheaper than Sony's ? What lenses would you recommend for shooting birds in conjunction with the M50 Mark II? Thanks
Just pick this up today. Looking forward to heading out this evening to give it a go. I'm a novice but looking to learn more about photography. That's what caused me to recently find you and subscribe to your channel
Thanks for the information sir, Your video is so nice and I learn a lot from it I'm trying also at my end using your technique with the used of my old camera and Here I am hoping for some giveaways
Nice video as always. Thank you very much. Would you share what are the 2 lights (LED?) at your beginning (second 12) ? They really created beautiful soft light!
Always very good videos about the M50, i have learned a lot watching but still a lot more to learn. One thing I haven’t figured out is if you can use the flash during video mode or do i need an external flash?
Glad the videos are helpful. You cannot use the flash (or an external flash) for video. You want a small LED to put on the camera (flash is only intended for photography - not constant lighting). Hope that helps.
I hope you read this. I bought the M50 MarkII and having a heck of a time trying to get the computer to recognize the camera. I do have the EOS Ultilities on my comuter. Also, How do I do Live streaming. There is nothing in the manual.
It rolled from 9.9 to 10k when I liked this video. Thanks! Looking for a great camera to record a puppet news channel. I think I've narrowed it down to this fella. Thanks.
The swivel screen is an absolute must I feel. I dont know how I managed to use my 20D with out it lol. It makes getting low shots very easy. You can get right down to the ground and not have to lay down if you dont want. Handy for trips to the beach with our 3 almost 4 year old and our almost 1 year old. One day I'll get a gimbal too and that'll make it even easier. The clean hdmi out is cool too. I've got the mk1 so it doesn't have that and my laptop probably couldnt handle full hd recording/streaming anyway. It barely gets by with the eos web cam utility for zoom. I plan on using the HDMI out in the future when I get a computerized telescope and a new laptop. Then I'll use it to stream views from the telescope, either of the bald eagle nest in a cell tower down the street from us, or views of the night sky. I use the eos utility program to control the camera remotely and then u use the capture window feature in OBS/Streamlab OBS to stream to youtube. Like last night I did a 3 hour stream capturing images for a timelapse. Anyway yeah...the m50, and the mkii are great cameras for what they cost and what they do. Anyone considering buying one should just stop now, scroll back up to the links and do it! 😎
Searching a companion for my M50 I wanted a 2nd M50 but ended up buying an EOS RP with the RF 35mm for an exceptionally low price (similar to M50 + EF-M32). The EOS RP has (1) eye AF and (2) audio levels on screen which I missed on my original M50 - thanks for clarifying that the M50 ii has audio levels!!! Especially for someone who wants to use self build mics (from commercial capsules) where constant checking is essential!
Fantastic video and I like also your positivity regarding the pros of the camera. I make UA-cam videos about audio equipment and for the longest time I've been using an older iPhone 7 as my camera. Here lately though I've been really truly wanting to upgrade my camera set up to something that takes more beautiful video and more cinematic video and just has a better quality to it. I've been eating up videos lately between the M50 Mark II and the lumix G7 Heck and even the Sony Z1F, and no matter which video I watch or what video test or whatever review I watch I always come back to the M50 as being the best camera that's going to create the best results the easiest. I plan totally get one as soon as I get paid
I've noticed that I left a comment on this video a year ago. It just goes to show that a lot can change in the space of a year. The Lumix FZ330 that I referred to is now broken so I can't use it anyway. I now use an even older camera, the Nikon D90 which is brilliant for photos but hopeless for video. I've resorted to buying a separate video camera and kind of regret it. I would love to be able to do both video and stills photography with the same device. Also the Nikon D90, although a lovely camera, is a beast of a thing! Maybe the Canon M50 mkii is the answer after all!😄
I currently use a iPhone 13 pro max, I know how to use manual settings but not sure spending 1000€ on a m50 mk2 kit will give me the uplift in quality I want. Any comments would be helpful. Excellent video of the m50, thanks Barry Spain 🇪🇸
I own M50, but I would like to have more lens options, yes, there are some good lenses, but I would like to see more lens from canon like nifty fifty, there were some leaks year before about new lenses, but, they aren't here and nobody knows if they are coming.
22mm f/2.0 is a great lens to buy. I would also consider buying an adapter and using EF or EF-S Lenses with M50. (since canon will focus on developing more lenses for R-Series in the future the prices of EF-Lenses might drop a little.)
I know this was posted a 1yr ago but I am looking at buying one. Coming from a Canon 7D how is this camera compared and can I use my older lenses with this camera. I generally shoot HS Sports and Real Estate. Looking forward to your response.
I shoot allot of video out side and usually have someone filming for me. I’m starting to film allot of golf content. Well this camera work for those thing or is there another camera you would suggest for that?

Do you a video on the attachments you put on the M50
Just the fact that you can close the screen so its protected in storage is a huge plus.
Love the video! you think about what normal people look for in a camera and you don't throw a lot of numbers that won't make sense to us :)
What’s a good lens for portrait and outdoor photography ?
I've noticed that I left a comment on this video a year ago. It just goes to show that a lot can change in the space of a year. The Lumix FZ330 that I referred to is now broken so I can't use it anyway. I now use an even older camera, the Nikon D90 which is brilliant for photos but hopeless for video. I've resorted to buying a separate video camera and kind of regret it. I would love to be able to do both video and stills photography with the same device. Also the Nikon D90, although a lovely camera, is a beast of a thing! Maybe the Canon M50 mkii is the answer after all!😄
I just got the M50 MK II, mostly inspired by your videos. Could you please create (or share) a playlist for the M50 beginners for photography?
I currently use a iPhone 13 pro max, I know how to use manual settings but not sure spending 1000€ on a m50 mk2 kit will give me the uplift in quality I want. Any comments would be helpful. Excellent video of the m50, thanks Barry Spain 🇪🇸
Please compare M50 mk ii with sony a6400.
Which one will be more future proof and better as a Landscape / Street photography tool on a budget
Would you recommend this over the fuji xt200 for a beginner?
Hi I'm just gonna ask that what should I buy canon m50 or canon m50 mark 11?
Thanks
Can I use this as a professional camera.... Or do u can suggest me with better options.
Can you shoot vintage lenses on the Mark II? I have several Pentax takumar with m42 mounts I like to use on occasion
Would you recommend it as a good vlogging camera for beginner.
