I’m just coming out of a deep depression and finding your videos has really inspired me to finish a painting I started over a year ago. So thanks very much for helping pull me up from my knees 🥰
Most enjoyable to watch and learn. I’m 78 years old now and just started painting about six years ago. Personally I prefer oil paints as I find them easier to blend and move around. Especially when painting in clouds, sky, grass and leaf colours. My take aways from this session were how easily you managed the very start of the background and how well the colours you chose fit so nicely with the overall painting. Was also very pleased to see the two small water falls you added. Well done. In one of your other sessions I truly liked your use of a fan brush to create clouds.
I’ll keep checking for more tutorials.
Vic in Vernon, BC. Thank you! Cheers!!
I really really appreciate this tutorial of a majestic old tree by the waters. I am planning to do a version of it soon as a birthday gift for my soon to be 89 year old dad. He is that immovable tree that all my family has depended on all these years. I am a new oil painter and this looks like something I can do as my 3rd painting. Thank you for being such an encouragement!
I started with oils in the 80's. Painted flowers, apples, grapes. Watched Alexander and Ross. Enjoyed painting some landscapes the way they did. Started a job, left painting behind. In 18, i retired, and now beginning to paint some. Now i am learning to paint with acrylics(challenging after oils years ago) and faux glass painting is a lotta fun too. 🙂
Absolutely beautiful. I use to paint many years ago. I will be 79 next month and you have inspired me to pick it up again. I am excited to get back to it again. Thanks for sharing your skills!!
Hi Justin I'm 72; never painted before so I guess this is part of my bucket list. Seriously though, I need this right now. I am in awe of what you do. I like that you are so real and how you express yourself in your painting. It's just wonderful watching your process. I've been studying a lot, watching different painters and trying to learn about mediums and brushes and how colors work and mix together. I want to paint waves, water, redwood trees and bark. Yes bark, have you ever seen the bark on a rainbow eucalyptus tree?? Things in nature that have been part of my life. I did one tutorial that came with Bob Ross paint set. I used a small canvas that I wiped several times and ended up using enough paint to paint a wall mural; most ended up on my dog's towels. I've even practiced evergreen trees on grocery bags with leftover paint. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. I want to join and support your gift but need a little more time to dabble around and watch and buy more brushes!!! One of each isn't enough. I spend too much time cleaning! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.🧡💜💛
I love oils! Just got back into it after doing acrylics for a few years. I’ve watch two of your videos! Two of my very favorite subjects, clouds and trees! Thank you for sharing you extraordinary talent! ♥️
Hello ,Justin I think you tube is the best platform for anyone that is serious about learning and growing and it is an asset for anyone that suffers from depression.I taught myself how to quilt from watching videos, with that said I quickly learned that they are not all created equal……..Some videos that state beginner level started at middle school level…….but this is my first video by you and it truly is not over my head as a novice…….but I have one issue please point me in the direction on how to purchase the right acrylic paints and brushes. Plus I have watched videos and the artist is using four different brands of paint for one project??…I tried to look up acrylic paint ratings and they were all over the place. Help if I can quilt I can paint.
Nice work Justin, I prefer oils because they are so easy to blend and the drying time suits an old fella like me, I love painting landscapes because down here in NZ there are so many places to get ideas from.I tried painting a portrait once and it ended up being a pond in a landscape painting.Thanks.
Thanks for takin the time to teach us all something new.
this is why im a fan of oils lol
Old feller? I'm 70, and STILL get'n in trouble! I agree that oils are easier to work with.
Right, it is important to never paint fanatsy trees, fantasy clouds, fantasy mountains, etc. People won't buy this.
I’ve only been painting for 5 years. Still learning. I don’t want to fast forward. Love it all ! I have only used oil. Thank you so much for these tutorials!
Thank you for sharing your painting technique with only a couple of brushes! It is so intriguing to me what can happen on canvas in a short time!
Thank you so much for all you do and helping so many of us become like you, truly a gift!
I just found you randomly on you tube. Although I paint in acrylics, I’m crazy about your techniques and color usage. I’m not really able to switch over to oils, but I’m still going to try and put my own spin on this. Thanks Justin. Appreciate you sharing your talent. God bless you!
Justin - I love watching your videos and the great tips and presentation! Thank you so much for posting them!!!

I enjoyed watching you paint and hearing your thought process! I have worked in oils, but am having fun with soft pastels. I have found I can use all I have learned and apply it to my pastel work too. Love the creative process!

I started oil painting in March during lockdown , furlough and grieving for my Mum who passed away from Covid. It's helps me to have happy moments, and I'm improving each time. Even sold a couple! Love watching your vids, thanks for the inspiration. Pam, Wales, U.K
Simply beautiful, thank you for sharing.
I absolutely love this! It looks amazing!
Thank you, for your generosity and artistic creation.
Just startled oil painting in lockdown. I have few pictures of trees that I would love to paint. This video is of immense help .
Brother Justin... I usually drop a comment in a more silly tone, while trying to be encouraging overall. This time, however, I hafta just say in all seriousness how awesome a job you do on these quick demonstrations. I am trying so hard to grasp the techniques, and sometimes it can be frustrating when I don’t get the expected desired result! Watching YOU work, I’ve not only learned technical concepts clearer, I’m motivated to “hang in there...”. Thank you for showing how you get these many effects without leading to an expensive (albeit well deserved) series of videos I would pine over, all the while frustrated that I don’t have the dough to spare! I could ask you a ton of questions for advice, and if you ever have absolutely nothing better to do, it’d be an honor to have the chance to ask ya about a thing or two... is that a possibility?
You do an awesome job and I sure appreciate ya, brother! If THIS is what you do in an hour, I bet the stuff you really put yer heart into is ferocious! Anyhoo... glad I found yer vids on UA-cam, & I hope you keep em comin... cuz yer definitely in the right bizzniss!
Rock on, my friend!

I have started with acrylics but end up being a big fan of oils. I love your videos, I have started watching them just a while ago but I keep watching them. Thanks again
Awsome job! I started painting with oils. Learning from several different people on UA-cam. Each of you are helping me as I strive to learn. I’m artistic and have done many different things. Oil painting is difficult and rewarding as well. I go with the idea I can’t mess it up cause I can always paint over it. Keep up the good work helping us all.

I really enjoy watching you, because you are so casual it makes it feel more personal to me. The tree is awesome!!! I watched lots of trees painted but most are a fan brush style, this is good but I like details, which I'm working on. Wonderful video, please make more, especially detailed ones. I would like to see a fishing scene , county with a river and trees all over. Oh and of course someone fishing. Thanks
