- Do you hate brushmarks on your paint projects? Today I’m sharing a brush-and-roll paint technique that helps eliminate ugly brush strokes. I’ve been seeing a lot of professional painters using this method. Even one of Nick’s trades “Tommy the Painter” offers this brush-and-roll paint technique when working on high-end doors and cabinets.
I hope this makeover has inspired you and given you some new painting ideas for your projects.

Just fabulous!
Thank you for a well done tutorial. Yes , i like your painting method. That dresser looks beautiful.
Denise, this finish is lengthy, but the final result is simply. . . .beautiful❣️
Thank you!!
What a beautiful dresser! Angling the paint is brilliant! I love painting and rolling, it’s my favorite method .
Thanks Sue! And ya, the angle on the edges works AMAZING! 😃
Hello Denise. It sure is a win. It’s beautiful to me, and the hardware is so awesome!! Well done!!😮😮🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Teresa! I love the hardware too 🤗
I love your videos! They are so helpful. I have learnt so much from you and I will definitely be trying the roller technique! Keep them coming x

Absolutely stunning!! Love the paint color and the hardware is beautiful. Great job! 😃👍💖
Thanks Marcie! 🙂
Beautiful! I love the bright blue.
I’ve been looking forward to this video all week since your blog came out. Thank you so much!
I really struggle with ugly brush strokes and streaking. especially on darker colours and am definitely going to try this!
Thank you for being so thorough in describing your methods. Today you answered a question I’ve had about using 2 different primers on one piece; slick stick first for binding followed by a blocking primer.
You are so talented! Your blog and videos are excellent!
Aw thanks Val! I appreciate you popping over to watch 🤗🥰
I love you videos! This was so informative. Thank you.
I'm so glad Joni, thank you!!! XOXO
Just love it. Well done. The finish is perfect
OMG! Absolutely beautiful!
I love everything you do! You're one of my favorite artists and I check out all your videos. I will try this technique. Thank you!!
Thanks so much Jai! 🥰😘
I'll try it out soon! I also liked the pace and detail of the tutorial.
Thanks for this feedback Kathleen! We are still trying to figure out our "video style" so your input means a lot!
i use those cabinet rollers at work here and there. they give a super good finish. really no reason to back roll them though. just load up the roller with paint and roll it like regular
I love it! I'm going to try this technique.
Great effect. Good tips thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for explaining your process so clearly! Love it!
Gorgeous!!!
The finish looks sprayed to me! Awesome tutorial Denise :)
Thanks so much 😊 Cindy! XOXO
It looks great and your painting tips are very helpful.
Looks amazing
Awesome!
Great tutorial.. I also paint & roll & I love the finished product.. I love how your piece turned out.. Thank you for sharing 💙
Thank you Denise that was exactly what I needed to learn. The finish on the dresser is beautiful and smooth. The overall look is stunning and high end . I will be trying this technique on my current project. 🙂
I'm so glad and thanks so much!!
I don’t spray for a couple of reasons. I started using this method several months ago and I am very pleased with the outcome. I use the whizz rollers and also the staalmeester. Maybe my eyes are bad but the texture you show with the magnified lens is exaggerated with the magnification. I can not see that kind of texture on my pieces. It is important to put thin sheer coats. At least that is what I do. I also use very little pressure as I roll the paint off.
These are great tips Shelley! And I'm going to see if I can find the whizz and staalmeester rollers! I can't wait to try! And yes, the texture I was showing IS magnified with the camera :)
How lovely! I’m wondering if you prime your roller before hand or just use dry?
Beautiful ❤️
Now ya got me thinking about not buying a spray gun. It looks nice. You have a great voice, and I love listening to you. Where are you from, Jamaica??🤣🤣. J/K. I'm thinking Canada.
Super cute...lol. Yes, I'm Canadian!🇨🇦😂
I found your video to late.... you did such a marvelous paint job!
Thank you so much!
I always see brush marks no matter how much I sand in between coats. I will definitely try this method. I'm very excited to try. I have 2 pieces I'm getting ready to work on. What do you think of Fusion paint. My first time trying it.😅
I've used Fusion paint and I really liked it. Great quality! I'd love to hear how the smooth finish works out for you. :)
Looks beautiful!
Thanks Renee! 😊
Love the technique, I’ll be trying it very soon. Do you need a new roller for every section of furniture ?
great videos! thanks for sharing. question-what about brushing on your primer instead of spraying? i am concerned that i will ruin the sprayer by using the shellac in the sprayer, but will i get brush marks that wont come out? thanks,
The primer sprays beautifully but I don't like the clean-up so I much prefer to roll it on. When I give it a light sanding between coats, I've never had an issue with brush or roller marks.
Matt finish or shiny?
Do you ever use polycrylic for topcoat? I’m working on dresser now and hate the topcoat part!
I've used Minwax and Varathane polycrylic and both work really well!
Do you also paint and roll the topcoat? I’m going to use Minwax Polycrylic.
I spray the topcoat.
Destroyed the absolute piss out of it but nice technique
