- A video clip of a Clay County father speaking at a school board meeting has gone viral and put the topic of what’s in the county’s school libraries in the national spotlight.

The bottom line is we need to start sueing these city councils for violating our first amendment rights and they all need to take a class on the constitution and how the government works before taking office, we as constituents should have the right to sue these politicians personally when they violate our rights that way there accountable for there actions....

There are six people on the committee to approve removing books from the schools. How many people were on the council to approve putting those same books into the schools? Disgraceful

The school board members who signed off on these books being made available to minors should be referred to CPS. This can be done anonymously. Refer them for "grooming".

How is this blown out of proportions? if there is a process in place then that process is flawed. Who is reviewing these books before they get into the school library? There shouldn't even be a need for parents to come together in order to ban these types of books as they shouldn't have been there in the first place. Thats why parents are mad. We as parents are entrusting the education of our children to you and expect them to be able to grow in a safe environment. We can understand when there is a bad teacher so long the problem is taken care of, we can understand bullies so long the problem is taken care of but giving our kids access to pornographic novels and acting like you didn't know they were there or saying its not the big of a deal shows that this problem is not the fault of a single individual but the school system and this requires parents to take a stand to make systemical change to ensure our children are protected. These parents don't want to be there they got jobs and other things to do they would much rather not have this extra stress in their lives but they feel a need to voice their opinions and take a stand as their kids are not being presented a safe environment to grow. We want our kids to be kids and think about sexual things on their own time and discover these things on their own as they grow older. We want them to come to us for questions and not pick up a in school and ask these question premature to teachers.

It’s High School. I thought it was an elementary or middle school. Are the books they are referring to YA? I can understand how books can go under the radar and accidentally get approved. Why do we always immediately go on an attack and assume these board memebers are sitting in meetings purposefully looking for these books to go into High School Library’s? Report it to someone and then if nothing changes go to extremes. Don’t just go to extremes right out the gate. And as a side note, what high school kid hasn’t read anything explicit? It’s going to happen. I think I would rather my high school kid read a school approved YA book about sexuality than the just dirty smut literature out on the street.

See this is unfortunate because does the father have some legitimate concerns over what's in this book? Yes it sounds so to me. If they are old enough to know what sex is, then reading a book where sex is mentioned for the purpose of plot is not a big deal.
Where I draw the line is when a book is literally only about sex or it has drawings depicting sexual activities. Because at that point thats just porn.
