Omg I ordered a 69686 from an online plant shop a few states away (US) and it arrived half dried up and half rotted and I contacted the shop and they only gave me a 10% off coupon for “next time” 😭 I thought maybe it was just my luck but now I know, I’m currently trying to prop the remaining stem 🤞
to be fair, I plan to buy an obliqua from Kaylee when she next has one, I WILL be driving a 12 hour round trip just to pick it up and avoid the risk of it getting lost or hurt in the post. If people want something bad, we go to great lengths to get them
Maybe for the philodendron 69686 you could do a pick-up only kinda thing? It sucks for people outside of the UK but if you can't ship or sell them otherwise I think that's pretty fair
I tend to also think this is the best option. Maybe offer them at a discount with no guarantee, and if you don't want to sell them directly from your warehouse shop you could arrange a different pickup location.
Sell those philodendron 69686 locally, people could come and pick them up or you deliver them via dpd or whatever. I mean I know give aways are great and all, but gurl it's your money that you've invested in your business
On a note of the Philodendron 69686: some of my local nurseries do semi-online ordering and shipping but some of the more travel sensitive plants they’ll do as local pick up only. Maybe you could just try to sell them for local pick up (like curbside or meeting up somewhere)
Open a very safe and social distanced pop up in your area to sell them that way!! Facebook market place, you can have a pick up location so your address is safe. Getting rid of the philodendrons locally seems the best way to sell them without the shipping damage
I think maybe it hasnt have the root in first place , it only have air root... it just fresh cutting .... i had some experience that maybe cause a lot demand in market, seller dont havent time to do their propagation properly , also mature plan so expensive , people want cheap so do they just cut and sell it.. i found that a lot in monstera varigation , paraiso verde , melano , verocosum , bilitae and almost all the expensive plan
Oh, I feel the salt! I have so many regrets. Bought a monstera albo cutting without checking the roots closely in the picture first, it rotted completely and died. Bought a pastazanum and then realized I actually wanted a McDowell. And several common plants I have bought just because I wanted to buy a plant, and then I've realized I don't love them and they take up space.
It's been really interesting figuring out what kind of plant I like, and not which ones are liked by the vloggers etc I watch (or on sale, or are given to me). I've become a lot more discerning about what deserves space/light and what needs to be given away.
Lol, It's so hard to find genuine Pastazanum here in Indonesia. I always end up with Mc Dowell even though I bought it from a really trusted big nursery
Oh no. That begonia. I have a few begonia that have a sort of 'iridescent' sheen on their leaves, which, at the right angle, turn the same colour blue as in that pic and as soon as you brought it up I felt so bad for you. They're super pretty imo, but no, not actually a true blue leaf. One of my regret!plants is my homalomena rubescens maggy. No one told me they get that big. NO ONE TOLD ME. So I bought it and it quadruples in size over the first summer. Then keeps on growing right up into the winter. Just. KEEPS ON GROWING. And by the end of the year, I had trouble getting the thing out the door. I split it into 4 separate plants (super easy plant to propagate at least, just split it up and off you go) not including the mother plant, and gave away all of the spares. Didn't even sell them. I just gave those mofos away to anyone who would take 'em. Now the mother plant as almost as big as it was. Again. It sits on a trolley cart in my spare room. So at least that way I can wheel the goddamn thing around if I need to move it now but. Really.
I would not mind hearing how you can get back lost variegation. Also, it would be interesting to know the steps you took to get the Thai Monstera plants rehabilitated. Do any of the things you did transfer to other plants. Thanks for your videos. I am enjoying the videos on plants, dreaming of spring as I am cooped up in the house because it is winter and a pandemic raging. Plants brighten the day.
My biggest plant regret, spending over $500 AUD on a Thai Constellation. They listed it as a large plant showing lovely images, clearly not the plant I would receive. I opened the box to see a small Thai that's had the top chopped off... It's taken about 3 months for a new growth point to come through. The plant just looks really, really sad :(
dang that really sucks, that's what i'm afraid of, as i do really like the different variegrated monsteras... but it's just such an expensive and often scam-y area 😭😭i'm getting a variegrated epipremnum pinnatum instead it's kinda similiar in a way and much MUCH cheaper!
Yes on bringing back alocasia variegation! I picked up a Dragon Scale and when I got it home I noticed that the oldest leaf had a smidge of variegation. It just died off for a new leaf but if there is a way to bring it back, I’m here for it.
You could also send it as a bonus plant to people who have bought something else. It’s a nice surprise when sellers include extras and if it dies nothing is lost on your end and nobody was expecting to get it.
The old-fashioned solution to dealing with little - 0 (zero) roots on scions/clones/cuttings... is to cut the leaves in 1/2s, 1/4s, 1/3s etc, reducing transpiration of moisture while the roots establish themselves. Having them in a humid condition can also help (like rehabbing them in a tall pot with holes-in cling-wrap over it. Choose the cutting protocols suitable for the plant type - like diamond or straight cut and how much to remove. Also, depending on how much root system there is, having fewer leaves may also be beneficial - start by removing the older/lower leaves. And keeping 1-3 cut leaves on the crown is avg. I know this technique may not be popular, especially for foliage plants. But it's a technique I took from working with fruit trees... and the technique works well for ornamental and variegated plants also.
I regret every “juicy” succulent I’ve bought because I’ve killed all of them lmao. But house plants wise would be tradescantia and begonia. They just don’t like me 🥲
Love your video's. The one thing i regreted is my big monstera large form for sure. I bought it from a older couple, and it was covered in scale. However i always love to let super sad/sick plants shine again, so i was up for the task! The previous owner watered before i picked it up and i waited to let it dry out before repotting. But that didnt work... It stayed wet, so i took it out of the pot.... Smelled awfull!!! It was completely rotted, not one root was one it. They neglected it so much. They had it for 10 years, without a moss pole so the stems where all twisted and weird. So i have 20 cuttings and 8 big monstera stems in buckets with water that are taking over my bedroom now. It is so sad cause i loved it so much, and it was my first big wishlist plant and my Christmas present for myself. There where couple leaves with couple rows of fenestration, but they fell of now.. I still hope i can save them, but their not looking great... Worst plant i have ever bought. Hi Kaylee! My suggestion for the Philodendron 69686: just keep selling them, but at a reduced price and with a clear disclaimer, like buying at your own risk, only recommended for experienced and patient people and no refunds. Your suggested video for the reverting variegated Alocasia would be nice! Another suggestion for a video: a rare plant index or some top 10 for small / compact rare plants. Some of us only have space on windowsills. :(
Watching this 7 months after the video was posted and I can really see a massive change already from your invisalign!!! Looking great! Also, as always I love the video!
Re: Philodendron - If the roots are still ok, maybe they just need time to acclimate to their new home and they would recover? Not sure but I have a couple of plants who drop leaves if I move them to just another room but then readjust and grow back. Some plants are just so finicky eh?! 😉
I have a baby Monstera too - so far it has one leaf with slits. But I know it's gonna take time for it to grow big, and I'm just excited to follow its progress
I actually think growing the plant is the fun part, not just having it, but being able to look at it and say - "I did that on my own" Looking forward to when Kaylee releases those little Thai constellations, I will enjoy growing one for years to come
@@fabulously695 True! I love buying small size so I can experience the journey of caring it to adulthood knowing that I raised it with joy and a little bit of sufferings 😂
Okay so weird solution to the leaves falling off of the philodendron 69686 could just be taking all the leaves of the plant before you ship it. Instead of sending a full plant in a give away you could just give away a few rooted nodes in moss for people to grow on their own. Not sure if this would work any better but might be worth a try
I got a variegated Alocasia odora last year. It’s been staying consistently variegated / no reversion. It’s also throwing out variegated pups 🙂 So I think maybe it depends on the Alocasia variety? I do give it high light (under T5 led full spectrum lights) so that could be a big part of it. Do you still have the variegated Dragonscale? PS: I’d love to see a video about tips for bringing back variegation.
personal experience with my 69686 from an ebay seller, posted all the way from thailand spent 2 weeks in the post, and arrived absolutely perfect, no leaf lost or damage at all, in pretty basic packaging - BUT, i got it during our super mega sunny british heatwave, so i’m thinking partially it didnt have to climatise as harshly?? not at all saying our humidity/weather was similar to thailands, but i think it definately *helped* that our weather was so tropical at the time!
😍😍😍 that giganteum.... i don’t even usually like those!! i think you should get some sort of pedestal for it to raise it up wicked high and pack other plants around the base it so it almost feels like a palm tree, not a philo
Love your videos! This shows that even you're professional with plants you also struggle with plants sometimes. And that's okay because some plants are just tricky
I bought a Raphidophora tetrasperma a little while ago that I was catfished into thinking it was variegated. It turned out that the pictures were just taken in a dappled light setting, but it still seemed like that was the intention. I felt like I paid too much for it, although it was certainly not bank-breaking. I've grown to love it after a while now. Now, it suffered a lot from our Texas freeze and power outage, and all the leaves except for the growing tip have died. I'm planning on cutting it down and starting it over.
I’m pretty sure she bought it for a video. To warn us not to buy the plant because the color reverts since it’s chemically induced, something along those lines.
You could totally do a setup with grow lights to keep your pavonina looking blue. Because the leaves grow toward the light and the flash comes from when your eye and the light are at the same angle. Again, it’ll only be when you’re standing by the light. I have mine set up across the room from a window and whenever I pass by the window and look over at it it’s blue.
I avoided the begonia pavonina, luckily, after researching and looking at a LOT of pics under different lighting. All the "blue" ones were photos obviously taken with the flash on....
Hello!a very belated happy new year. Kelly i don't know if you could plant all those 36 of them but you could try planting a few in your green wall in your shop.its just a suggestion. Thankyou
I regret my alocasia polly, I love her but she got sick and I had to cut off most of her leaves and she started growing a new one but it stopped. I regret my tradescantia nanouk because the seller lied about the size and I was supposed to get a 6in plant what I got were two rooted cuttings and a rotted one so that thing is tiny and going to take AGES to be big and beautiful. I also regret my "lemon lime rubber tree" I have no idea what it actually is because I've never seen another one like it but it is the SLOWEST grower of all my plants (though also it's the healthiest/best looking) it just doesn't do anything. Maybe two leaves a year if I'm lucky.
I have to say, I really appreciate you mentioning prices for a change! I feel more informed. I live in South Africa so it can be very difficult to discern whether I'm getting good deals from local collectors. Please consider talking money more often.
Philodendron birkin... I bought a $20 3 inch one. It's been over a year, and it's still tiny and the leaves aren't showing those white stripes I wanted to see.
I regret buying a 2 leaves scindapsis moonlight trubii for $65 USA dollars from a local nursery....I had never found one till that day...I though I could grow, enjoy, propagate and sell in future...but a week later been hearing people are finding a 6 inch pot from costa farms for $18 in Walmart and some grocery stores!😬😞 Not a wide investment!
I also regret my Spider-Man monstera. First real expensive plant I bought. All it does is throw out runners and no leaves. It's in 3 pieces at this point and it's about to experience my Indiana winter!
I agree with the 69686. I repotted mine and the shoot that was about to unfurl just curled up and die. Reminds me of my melanochrysums. I also agree with the thai cons. They're super extra slow growers! So I don't get the people buying wet sticks or single node of those. Its gonna take years before you see it look nice.
I wonder if the 69686 would do better as wetsticks? Might allow some folks who normally can’t afford to buy from the rare pap t shop a chance at a wishlist plant and a chance to recoup the investment. Local/pickup only or a giveaway are also options, but I think a lot more people would love to buy from you but just don’t have the money. Offerings like wet sticks or nodes if you have any might be a cool thing to offer in the future for plants that don’t ship well since it’s such a bummer to pay a premium for a gorgeous plant and then have it arrive with shipping damage and have to wait a long time to acclimate it. Just a thought!
Regrets: alocasia zebrina. Bought a HUGE one at Barton Grange (Which is usually awesome btw) It was in coco husk and its roots were in bad condition. Its down to one leaf now.
I was one of the P 69686 customers, I was sad went it took a rapid dive (and I mean RAPID and DRAMATIC! ). But the no fuss refund made it OK and I'd buy from the shop again, these things happen. I live not too far away so would be happy to try a local pick up.......
I see around here there are these very plants are bought and sold as local pickup only. So I can understand that. Plus I'll try a green variety of a wishlist plant and if I don't like it, I cross it off. For me personally anything that takes up alot of space, is a no. I live in a tiny apartment, if it takes too much space I just can't do it. They are beautiful but I just like smaller more compact plants. Plus I have better luck with easy plants. Certain ways to propagate work better or best for me. But this is why I try cheap plants before I get wishlist plants.
PLEASE make a video on variegated alocasia! I would love to know how to encourage more vairegation from my dragon scale. It has specs of variegation on mine
Do you ever do an open house?? Maybe you could do an open house and put them on a sale in the front??? That could help with getting rid of them and bring in business, right? Idk. Good luck! Love your videos!
Regards to your philodendron, I live locally to House of Kojo and they have a warehouse space like yours and have an option for a pick up. Apart from the couple days they chose to open it up to booked slots, they usually only do online with shipping or collection with the warehouse closed for public. I prefer collection as I don't have to pay the shipping! So I'm sure there will be local people who would want to buy and just pick up and save on shipping anyways ☺️
Let’s gooo early gang! Edit after video can we appreciate how real kaylee Ellen is. Mine would be albo reversions, gigantium is mad huge literally 4 ft tall and it’s only cuttings lol
I'm so surprised at the 69686. I had one delivered a few weeks ago and it's absolutely thriving. What a shame for you and the customers that they all died 😪 It's such a fun plant to have in my collection. Re: Variegated P. Giganteum: mine isn't very large so far, but it think I'm going to need a bigger house 🤣🙈🥴
Maybe do a few test sendings with different packing methods to family and friends, and use the best method(s) for future purchases of hard to ship plants. It will make u a better plant retailer in the long run.
I got catfished.. What nobody tells you is, these plants can get big. I brought a 69686 home about a year ago and put it on a 4foot pole. It's now half way up the pole and measures 4.5 feet wide! I love the plant for sure but it's like a great Dane puppy..
OMG...I'm so sad that you didn't get to experience the awesomeness of Begonia pavonina. I totally get it....I think I originally experienced that lack luster feeling when I got my 1st one. And then I ended up getting a second one only because it was part of another lack luster deal, but then in trying to revive them both( because I ended up neglecting them), I got to witness how awesome they actually are (even without a flash). I think it partially required high humidity, but also seems to need light at you mentioned but when it happens from just the natural surrounding light.....holy cow....so amazing!!!!
Yeah, that kind of blue is only possible as a structural color that reflects and warps light to irridesce blue. Pigmented blue could never be that vibrant. But because it's structural, it only looks that way under the right conditions and at the right angles. It's a really neat plant as long as you don't expect it to be something impossible.
Re: the plants that don't ship well. Maybe just sell them locally. You can either just drop them off on their doorstep, they picked it up in your shop, or you meet in a public space.
I would agree if they don't ship well just do a pop up shop and only sell it local. Better than losing all of the money.

Personally, I regret buying a baby monstera d not realizing how long it is going to take for the leaves to get big and become the classic monstera
Did the same and eventually killed it 🤦🏻♀️
I have a baby Monstera too - so far it has one leaf with slits.
Pleease do the video on alocasias that are reverting!! I can’t find any info on the topic
Seriously I get so HYPED everytime you upload and start to sing along the intro like an opening ❤
I just love you! 💕 - not in a creepy way 😂
Okay so weird solution to the leaves falling off of the philodendron 69686 could just be taking all the leaves of the plant before you ship it.
Alocasia like a lot more light than most people think! I bet you’re right that’s why yours is doing so well
personal experience with my 69686 from an ebay seller, posted all the way from thailand spent 2 weeks in the post, and arrived absolutely perfect, no leaf lost or damage at all, in pretty basic packaging - BUT, i got it during our super mega sunny british heatwave, so i’m thinking partially it didnt have to climatise as harshly?? not at all saying our humidity/weather was similar to thailands, but i think it definately *helped* that our weather was so tropical at the time!
😍😍😍 that giganteum.... i don’t even usually like those!! i think you should get some sort of pedestal for it to raise it up wicked high and pack other plants around the base it so it almost feels like a palm tree, not a philo
I would like to see a video about import plants and your experience. It looks you have a lot of stories about it!!!
Wow !! That monstrea!!! So glad I found your page!!! Love all your plants! I'm gonna have to wish list all your plants!
Maybe allow the Philodendon to get more mature and hardy then see about selling them/giving them away.
You should do a pop up somewhere in the spring and sell the 69686's there! Or something like a farmers market or something? Sell them to a nursery?
My Thai Constellation has root rot twice in less than a year. You’re right, it takes a long time to recover to rot again. I love it but it’s annoying.
I feel like the world is being catfished by plants right now. Have you watched the video by Nick Alexander on Monster Mania / tulip Mania?
The Pink Congo should be on this list for sure 🙃
I’m pretty sure she bought it for a video. To warn us not to buy the plant because the color reverts since it’s chemically induced, something along those lines.
Nah, she bought that for a good cause.
i actually have an idea for a video. Maybe reacting to plants/plantrooms from your subscribers/viewers :)) That would be interesting i guess hahah
I love how natural she films. I find it funny everytime she films and there's a sound disturbance 😂
Sell them local in a storefront. No shipping no problem?
The begonia still looks beautiful and I'm not overly fussed on begonias. But I definitely feel the let down
How about doing self collection at your shop front for philodendron 69686?
Had the exact issue with my 69686. Arrived great. Dropped all but one leaf within a few weeks.
I would love to see what your variegated alocasia look today. Especially the dragon scale.
With very large plants, put them on something to get it up. The verrucosum will look much better! if you can, hang it from the ceiling.
I also regret my Spider-Man monstera. First real expensive plant I bought. All it does is throw out runners and no leaves. It's in 3 pieces at this point and it's about to experience my Indiana winter!
Yes, please share the tricks on how to get variegation back in plants!
Ugh I love the giant monsteras I have a decent medium size it’s a bit small compared, but He’s my largest plant and I’m so proud of him
I agree with the 69686. I repotted mine and the shoot that was about to unfurl just curled up and die. Reminds me of my melanochrysums. I also agree with the thai cons. They're super extra slow growers! So I don't get the people buying wet sticks or single node of those. Its gonna take years before you see it look nice.
I remember you being pissed at your variegated philodendron billietiae and its uneven variegation 🙄
Can we talk about the gloriosum in the back ? 😍
I didn’t realise this was the shop until you said 🤣
I was one of the P 69686 customers, I was sad went it took a rapid dive (and I mean RAPID and DRAMATIC!
Do you regret that huge box of Florida Ghosts? 😂
OMG youre right! I sure do 😅
oh my god I forgot about those 😂
Florida ghosts?
Or that pink congo plant that was chemically made...
Do you ever do an open house?? Maybe you could do an open house and put them on a sale in the front??? That could help with getting rid of them and bring in business, right? Idk. Good luck! Love your videos!
For any of the plants that don't ship well, just sell locally (pick-up only). I'm sure there is still a demand with people living near the area!
For the 69686 you could sell them locally and hand them overs outside the shop once lockdown eases up.
Maybe you could set up an in-person sale for the 69896 to cut your losses (obviously after COVID)
The 6968 looks so cool 😍 have you tried selling them off as cuttings? They might travel better
It will make u a better plant retailer in the long run.
haha now i’m worried about my variegated alocasia odora...
Ha, clicked off a different video when the notification for this video came up.. love your videos
Id be really interested in a video of how to bring back variegation after reversion.
either pick up only, a local pop up shop, or a give away
I got catfished..
What nobody tells you is, these plants can get big.
I brought a 69686 home about a year ago and put it on a 4foot pole. It's now half way up the pole and measures 4.5 feet wide!
I love the plant for sure but it's like a great Dane puppy..
ur personality dictates the plant price :) ur the authority and i love how true u r.
