This really wasn’t a bad engine at all, especially for the time period. Like a lot of competitors sedans the 4 speed autos of the time tended to numb the acceleration a good bit. A 5 speed Solara with this same engine can be a blast to drive though and will hang right there with all the 3.0/5 speed Maximas, Accords, etc. of the time
To anyone wondering what the final drive ratio is in these U140E XV30 1MZ-FE Camrys (given that it is definitely not 2.184 or 3.480), it is most likely 2.923, which is the same as some Ipsums from the time.
about 7.6 seconds 0-60 mph not bad for a full sized sedan with a 4 speed trans and 192 horsepower. The 2004-05 toyota se v6 can hit 0-60 mph in about 6.8 to 7 seconds because of the stronger 3.3 v6 engines instead of the 3.0 v6.
