Dude as an AroAce, the feeling of doing dating sims for the plot is all too real. Like I remember I downloaded a crazy explicit one as a joke, but instead of doing it for the girl’s attention, it just tried to 100% every quest line in the most impractical way as possible. It was so much more fun that way tbh

As an aroace, dating sims are awesome. They’re like getting a little taste of the fun of dating without any of the stuff that makes me want to throw up!
I like dating sims as an alloromantic because they let me indulge in my romantic side without me having to breach the rules that I've set for my dating life, namely that I won't date anyone who I'm not first friends with.

I remember playing dating sim games that had a majority men as romantic interests and I would cringe playing any of their routes, but I absolutely loved playing the games because I liked the plots and art! I never cringed while going down the romantic routes with women… it took me a long time to realize what that meant lol!

Coming here two years later to say that Speed Dating For Ghosts is a genuinely evocative and haunting (pun unintended actually) experience. Riley's romance is QUALITY, and just in general the game is a well-written lesson in peeling back facades and bravado and seeing how remorse is a powerful motivator for change. I'm glad I gave it a shot and weirdly it WAS because of the overly critical review here lol. I was like "... I feel like the surface wasn't very well scratched here, lemme check it out." Glad I did.

A number of years ago, I saw a documentary about a pinchful of people who were spiritually and sexually attracted to random objects. One was in love with the organ she played at her church; another was in love with the Berlin Wall. Shockingly, both also had their share of mental health issues. I've not seen this phenomena brought up since, which is surprising, because it's not such a leap of logic for a person to lend objects human traits- we've all done it, just usually not in an erotic way.

In Speed Dating for Ghosts, if you fail every possible date option, you can go to Hell and try at dating a party demon that's fading away, a vampire lady with severe depression, and a good boy doggo who's looking for his owner. It's so creative and, in some cases, surprisingly introspective.

I've watched let's plays of maybe 25 dating sims, and I've found this: 100% of the serious ones are terrible (often hilariously so), and 100% of the parody/oddball ones are brilliant (often hilariously so).

I'm aroace and Jaiden explaining how she reacted to the cool shark guy in Speed Dating for Ghosts is an absolute mood. I enjoy dating sims because they're very lighthearted and fun. Plus they allow me to somewhat get the dating experience without having to actually go through the annoyance and discomfort of trying it in real life.
In the Namco High segment all I could hear was the background music and it only made me think of Dancing Toothless

the galoga ship in the beginning legitimately did the romeo and juliet plot up until pacman shows up, this is amazing and i want to play that game.
