    I just tested mine & the Mic 2 doesn't have the "dark" sounding issue on either mic. I think that gentleman had a defective mic. He should do an exchange. I do however hear the Mic1 sounding better than the Mic2 in a few reviews. I think the gain for the Mic 2 may require a bit more than on the Mic1. I'm still in my testing phase though. But I can confirm, like you, both Mics sound the same to my ear... At least so far.

    Btw: you *do* know that the 32 bit float recording is only saved as a recording on the transmitter/mic units right? It doesn’t do 32 bit float to the receiver, so it’s not saved on the device the receiver is connected to in 32 bit float. Just wanted to check since it seemed like you showed the receiver to show it was recorded in 32 bit float (on the receiver end), just wanted to clear it up to avoid confusion :) Also, is the low cut filter on or off? your voice sounds like it’s on, or is it post processing eq you’ve added?

      Thanks Fredo@@Fredo.heavyy I am so disappointed. The DJI 2 looked so promising. Great feature set with nice upgrades from the DJI 1 (which I own). I almost always use a boom mic with a Zoom F8 to capture audio for my indie narrative work. The lavs and/or DJI mics are used sometimes as back up, or if I am shooting very wide and don't want the boom in the shot. I thought the DJI 2 mics would be at least as good as theDJI 1's, so with the additional options of 32bit float and Noise reduction, it seemed worth it to upgrade. But no! The sound is muddy and inferior to the DJI 1 mics. There is just no way they can be used for narrative work. Maybe they were never meant to be used that way, but I can't even see using them for interviews, or even UA-cam. So it's back to B&H with the DJI 2. I will keep the original DJI 1 which can be used in a pinch. In the mean time the quest continues for an elegant wireless mic/lav solution. Thanks to you and others for your earnest work in keeping us informed.

    • @AndreSjoberg
      @AndreSjoberg 4 місяці тому

      32 bit float recording requires using the DJI Receiver (or connected to a DJI Device (pocket/action) for internal backup recording - it doesn not transmit 32 bit float audio) - If connected with bluetooth to an iPhone (haven’t tested android) you loose backup recording feature and «intelligent» noise cancellation. *I made a video about it on my channel*, watch it for more details :)
      There is also the use case of just buying a mic (no receiver) and use it with bluetooth to connect, you then loose any way of turning *on* 32 bit float (can only be done through receiver) as well as turn off low cut filter and adjust gain on the mic.

    The Red one is a little brighter but slightly, not even for me to create a fuss. Hopefully DJI will fix this and even make this sound slightly less bright without muffle (nasally) with some body to it as the Rode does sound better. I’m on the the fence because DJI is killing it with features, tested the Mic 2 with different Camera manufacturers but somehow opted to not group test this against Rode or even DJI Mic 1 before release.
    With these updates Rode is in trouble.

    This is a good video, but don't be blinded by your particular use case. I don't own either of these mics, but the other videos are talking about specific circumstances where there was a percieved issue. Some of these were real life circumstances, not just talking close to your mouth in your apartment. One youtuber posted that the DJI Mic 2 interfacing with her iPhone gave her poor audio. Another compared the 'brightness' or 'darkness' of the pair of mics you get with the charging case option. Another youtuber who posts very technical breakdowns of audio equipment showed a clip of a spoken segment that sounded unacceptably muddy. Several videos compared the audio from the Mic 1 to the Mic 2. In the comments, virtually every commenter said the Mic 1 sounded better. The Mic 2 has a lot to recommend it, but I don't think folks are noting these things to sabotage the product release.

    While it is true that sound "is subjective" due to different devices, youtube compression and such, Curtis Judd is the GOAT when it comes to audio, so he's not saying any BS. Neither is Wayne RECs. They're both sound professionals unlike other youtubers who simply do youtube for a living. Those two know what they're talking about. Obviously they could have received defective units, but it's not just them having issues.
    There are some people who are not being able to record with bluetooth on Gopro's, Insta360, phones, etc. A few others have mentioned they can record 32-bit float internally while using bluetooth while others can't, so either there's a defective batch going around or a firmware problem that has to be solved.
    It's great that you haven't encountered these problems and I'm grateful you took the time to test and film, but something is wrong with the mic2 or at least more than a couple of them. Hopefully they fix it soon.

    Among all the Wireless Mic at this price range, the DJI sounded the worst. It's not even a subjective thing about sound quality, it just sounded lower quality than others at the similar price range. The mic while never marketed as match, they are not consistent, one sounded darker and another can sound brighter. What's worst is that, these DJI mic are way too bright and thin which is less suitable for spoken words application which is what this mic is used for. I like everything about this mic except the sound quality. Rode wireless pro sounded the best but I don't like the form factor and their case seemed "forced" but if I had to choose. I'll still go with the wireless pro in a heartbeat. Did I mentioned that these DJI Mics are not shielded? Or poorly shielded? They are not a mic company so I understand that, but these are basic.
