As a voice teacher of 40+ years - Ken is one of the few people who understands the essential mechanics of good singing which must be maintained regardless of style in order to protect the instrument. Pay close attention to what he is saying for it is of great value!
i can certainly vouch for Don's statement. i started singing in Church, then Select Choir at school. Back then, without knowing much, i had solid technique, good range, and remained in Select Choir for 6 years, until we moved. i didn't continue any type of Choir after that and the summer after graduating (1982), i started a rock band that lasted until 2003. My voice was still in nice shape, but i was to find out that i couldn't just shoot from the hip singing rock vocals and expect success. As most starting bands do, we began with about 90% covers. i learned a lot about what i didn't know, simply by trying to learn the songs by myself. Yes i had been taught how to sing, BUT -what i did not do (which we did incessantly in choir) was to get everything polished down to the syllable. My only practice beforehand, was using a karaoke software program to just about wipe out vocals from tunes we would be playing at upcoming rehearsals, and sing along with that. i had bailed on scales, warmups, singing multiple voiced vowel scales...just practicin' the tunes, man....shit, i was a fool. :/ To cut to the chase, in 1989, i lost my voice for a good month or so, even had the feeling of a possible nodule. Oddly the song that did me in is not difficult in pitch, range or volume. It does however, have several lengthy segments without much space for a full breath. It was my lack of healthy technique that blew it. The song? Sounds stupid, but it was "Things We Said Today" by The Beatles. Again, hardly any range is required, but it is the somewhat relentless onslaught of lyrics with small breath spaces, poorly placed breath places, and the occasional full breath reset...at least that was how i viewed it at the time. When it was found that i didn't need surgery, just had swelling in one of the folds, i started working with a vocal coach.....Lesson Learnt, chillren.
I sold my Ibanez to buy the course of Ken Tamplin and everybody is telling me how incredible it is the way my singing has developed over only three month. I took classes before, but no singing teacher was able to teach me over the time what I learned with Ken Tamplin in such a short time. I still have a lot to go, but I make my living of the music already, and can only recommend him. And by the way, Gaby is really great and lovely and talented and I love the student demonstrations Ken does with her. .... and don't worry, I have more guitars ;-) Last year I was one of the founding members of a Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band in Germany and we have become the most booked FM Tribute in Germany with incredible press reviews especially regarding the voices. If I'd win the lottery (unfortunately I don't play), the first thing I would do, ist apply for Ken Tamplin Master Class!
Singing is as difficult as playing an instrument. I am singing for 3 years and still have a lot to learn. But one thing I learned very early: If it hurts stop!
You imagined unconscientiously singing the same and because you don't have the technique, your muscles tense up instantly. It happened to me regularly on high notes. Learn singing, especially using mixed voice and your throat won't hurt.
Wow she can SING! What a brilliant tone..... Ken, I'm convinced - if a student can develop such an awesome and consistent sound you really know what you are talking about, and from experience
Ken is a genius and he has a comprehensive knowledge of singing, if he can help me with pitch he's gone above & beyond...I love to hear him talk vocals.
it is incredible how knowledge (and homework 😀) can improve dramatically an already talented person ! Ken is the Man! we love your passion and dedication Ken!
You are a natural born instructor. Thank you for not only knowing how to solve my problem (vocal loss/squeezing/lack of good compression) but also for explaining how to do it correctly in a way I can understand. Most vocal instructors speak in a language I just don't get, but you nailed it. My epiphany came imitating you, holding breath, feeling my diaphragm naturally adjust on its own from many years of practice when doing it correctly without knowing it (a "great" singing night but not knowing why or how I sang well that night), and hearing the difference in my voice using your controls. Wow! Thank you!!!
Since a viewer can get so many useful tips by watching these videos, then paying for the singing course must be an incredible value. Ken is doing a great job.
You know that he’s a good singer because he’s a good speaker as well, he uses those techniques while speaking ,even when it comes to when to swallow saliva without disturbing the listener .. i don’t know how to sing yet , but i have the most sensitive ear that can catch every single detail For all of this mastery of singing and explaining and this politeness to our ears i do thank you sincerely
Yes, the KTVA method works. I, too had to search for help. I'd been singing for a good few years, but began struggling near the end of a night. One night, I got to halfway through a set and lost my voice completely. I couldn't go on. It was devastating. And it put me out of the game for three weeks. I thought I was finished. I read up on Ken's course and watched the videos. The proof was right there. I purchased the course, and i can honestly say, hand on heart, it was the best move I ever made. Now I get more gigs than ever, and people are always amazed at the end of the night my voice seems to be stronger. People seem to think that it's impossible. Let me tell you, it isn't.
Thanks for speaking out about your experiences with my course, Wayne! With all of the posers out there, some people have a hard time knowing what is real about the voice, singing, and REAL vocal coaches. Anyone can cal themselves a vocal coach. Not that many can prove their versatility and expert capabilities by demonstrating with their own voice on challenging songs, one after another. No phony coach can teach you to come back from a worn-out or abused voice that has reached the end of its rope. You know from first-hand experience who can restore voices and make them better than ever before. Rock on, my friend! 😊
Thank you Ken . I spent the entire day watching your videos. Thing is I was singing in a heavy thrash band 14 years ago...then I quit for many reasons. But we're reforming the band. New style, same guys who have aged. .especially me😂 and I don't wanna hurt my voice like I did in the past.Knowing that I haven't sung for long time . But thanks to you, I think I can even be better that in the past. Love from France everyone.
Laurent, you can far exceed the voice of your former self. You need to learn and grow your voice into something it has never been before. And you can learn to control the air, such that you won't go hoarse any more from oversinging.

Thanks again, Ken! Been working on my vocal range for about a year now and every time I have a question you're the first guy I look for with answers. Killer work!
Hi Ken, you’ve changed my life and I genuinely mean it! I’m not sure if you read all your comments, but I want you to know...I’m an actor and play guitar as a hobby. I'm commenting from my other account again (Tommy M from the forums here): I really, really hope that people watching this realize just how important this technique is for bringing that grit to your voice SAFELY! Seriously folks, I was a total skeptic about KTVA but the results from even a year of my (scattered, unfocused lately) practice have been insanely positive. It takes hard work and dedication, but I can assure you that Ken and his team have produced probably the best vocal course available.

Ken, I could hear her voice was in pain. Yes it sounded good but I could also hear the strain. But you've trained her well and her voice will never be in danger again. Good job man.
I actually developed the technique while recording, I noticed my voice sounded too thin so I started trying different things to increase the depth and warmth.
Thank you. I noticed Ms. Gabriela Gunčíková's performance of LOVE HURTS could do considerable damage to one's throat when attempting to duplicate it. I did not know this could actually be taught. I am yet again amazed at your videos.
Great video, and ditto about making people aware of the dangers of bad technique. I’m totally untrained, “discovered” compression by accident several years back. Instantly went from being able to hit an E4 to a C5 overnight, got carried away, and damaged my voice a bit years later. I’ve been getting it back, but it’s taken time. technique is priceless, especially when it comes to compression. The dangers are definitely there if it’s done wrong. Great video, thank you.
Scrolling down for any opposing comments... either they're all deleted, or this gentleman's reputation is that good. Wish I had more time to practice singing on top of learning foreign language.
Just practice 15 minutes a day..the vocal exercises. U'll be amazed..sing words from the foreign language that U're learning. Get creative. No excuses.
I loose my voice 2/3 into the song Listen to the music. Now only happen towards the end. Still a way to go. But man oh man. Ken is the the man to save your voice. Thanks a million. Ken cheers!
Wish id known this MANY years ago, i just discovered when i was in my teens that i had a singing voice and many ranges, having suffered with gerd because of a hiatus hernia and also sinusitis, plus alot of shouting, 😁, my voice is now constantly hoarse,im in my 50's and there's no chance of ever having a singing career but i just sing around the house, very gently now, this video has taught me so much, excellent and very clearly explained, thanks Ken 👍

I've been a vocalist for 27 years. I'm not shure how I learned this technique, but about 8 yrs ago I joined a band way above my level of professionalism. They did 70 shows a year with 3 one hour sets. Previously my range was Alice in Chains and Metallica. This band did Van Halen Judas Priest Aerosmith Motley Crue AC DC. Stuff that was what I thought out of my range. Those guys really challenge me to step up and do these songs. If I didn't I wouldn't have had the job. I really surprised myself when I found that I could actually sing all of this stuff. My point being, I started using this technique and thought I wasn't singing properly but faking it to pull off these higher range songs. Great video great information
She is awesome !!!!!! You rock ken taking power and giving it powerful and memorable. Who wants to hear just strained...we want everlasting sound and thats what u give these singers the ability to reach that ultimate sound the power from deep within the soul...
Thank you Ken you're the best Coach Worldwide! I have the same problem. My compression destroy my Voice 😨. I have to learn how to take full advantage of the voice!!!

Been singing for years, and my voice always reverts back to ‘fry’ when singing higher notes and didn’t notice how it was limiting my range. This video opened my eyes to some bad habits. Great video. Subscribed! :)
Gabriela`s new variant of vocal distortion sounds better. Old voice with fry sounded unnatural for her, seems like it hurts her. You made her vocal sound just how it has to be.
Although all your students I’ve seen are so good, I just love Gabriela. She has so much raw talent and I’m so very proud of all she has overcome like learning English, which is supposed to be one of the hardest to learn plus her determination. You can just tell from watching her that she is having a blast and love how you look on with such pride,as you should for you are also an amazing singer plus teacher. Really like seeing you sing together too
a voice teacher told me to keep using more air when i was straining. i didn’t get it because every time i used a lot of air it would hurt like hell. thank you for confirming my suspicions. dont plan on doing that again
Thanks a lot, Ken! I did start out with fry for distortion but soon realised it doesn't help with the higher notes. I followed your videos and worked on developing a strong clean sound first and now the compression comes in naturally and very effortlessly. You're the best! ❤❤
Ken, thank you for this video! I am a recurrent nerve surgical injury survivor and to me videos like this shine some hope and light on how can I not only rebuild my nowadays singing voice but also avoid the grave singing mistakes I've had prior to the accident. I assume I might have been the 500.000th subscriber because it said 49k until I clicked subscribe. Now it says 500k, lol. Thank you again for sharing your knowedge and experence. Gabriela reminds me of the talent and sound of Eva Cassidy... She can sing anything! I've been using what you teach, Ken, and I've found my range and sound is better than it ever was. Just imagine if I actually took the course.... needs to be on my priority list. I just sing at church, but God deserves amazing quality even more than a bar gig.
This is very helpful. I am a male singer with around 3 1/2 octaves (C2-G5) and I mainly sing hard rock and heavy metal. However, I am having a hard time getting out really heavy grit or screams in my singing without hurting my voice. And this video really helped, thanks.
Our coach in madrigals in high school she said all of this. She was with the Va. Opera! She was over compressing and not controlling her air! I heard it in the first part of the video! You have too have control your voice! Enjoy your talent and make it work for you!
Yes, Kennith. Over-singing or Over-compressing the vocal cords is really bad for your voice. Just the right amount of compression can help your voice to last a lifetime.
I’m not much of a singer at all. I just sing with one earbud in fooling around but your videos are extremely interesting. I never realized how much there really is to singing properly. Keep up the great work, Ken!!!

dan meme Surprise!
Well no matter what someone calls it its pretty cool people come up with the same things and techniques.
Thanks for reinforcing the need for proper technique. Anyone can sing badly, for awhile. It catches up with you!
Wow! Gabriella is freaking awesome! A huge improvement between the before and after.
Ken cheers!
Thanks, Some Guy!

That's great, James!
Indeed , if I've gotten anything out of this course its i can talk free easy the next day after singing for four hours.
Tremenda voz de la señorita. Felicitaciones...

Gabriela has a killer voice,,, ken good job for guiding her in the right stream
👍💜😀
You are the best !!!! Thank you for loving all of us.
Paul Knight 👍👍👍
Ken is a great teacher/vocal coach. Blessings from South Florida.
Thank you, John!
She is awesome !!!!!! You rock ken taking power and giving it powerful and memorable. Who wants to hear just strained...we want everlasting sound and thats what u give these singers the ability to reach that ultimate sound the power from deep within the soul...
Thanks for the kind words, Tamara!
I can't sing to save my life, but i know a good singer when i see one! Gabi is amazing because you taught her well!
Gabby sings so well because she has worked so hard for something she knew she really wanted.
Gabriela is awesome!
Love her voice.
I agree, totally, Scott! 😊😊
Hi
I've never seen coach like you, Ken. You're really open your skills for free. It helps us. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome, h!
A talented princess.
She's amazing, Tuba TBNT!
An excellent tutorial if I may say...and Gabriela was just sensational. Saw the ‘before’ and ‘after’ effect. What a difference to her voice! Amazing!!
Phil C Thanks!
I just received your DVDs, I can't wait to learn the proper way to use my voice.
Rumany's Glam Studio- I can't wait to hear your progress!
Gabriela has a fantastic voice! Love to hear her belt it out!
She's great!
Thank you Ken you're the best Coach Worldwide! I have the same problem. My compression destroy my Voice 😨. I have to learn how to take full advantage of the voice!!!

Rock on!
This man has changed my life. Thank you for your videos. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
😊
Been singing for years, and my voice always reverts back to ‘fry’ when singing higher notes and didn’t notice how it was limiting my range. This video opened my eyes to some bad habits. Great video. Subscribed! :)
Thanks for sharing! 😀
i am obsessed with her voice!!😭
Gabriela`s new variant of vocal distortion sounds better. Old voice with fry sounded unnatural for her, seems like it hurts her. You made her vocal sound just how it has to be.
Not only does it sound better, but she doesn't blow her voice out anymore. That used to be an everyday thing. No more.
When I sing low notes, my voice goes on a vocal fry and I hate that.
Really like seeing you sing together too
Best and most authentic vocal couch on the planet. My honest and only opinion :) Cheers!
Thank you, Zvika Dror!!
Each video i have watched here, makes me more convinced in the seriousness of your work and ability in to Sing and to teach that.
Thank you so much, Guilherme!
Gabriela girl, you gave me goose bumps! Ken sensei kudos!
She is amazing, Moisi!
@@kentamplin And only on those bits and parts that where put together in this video! Awesome!
Mr Ken, you were born to be a vocal coach. Much appreciated, your videos, analyzes and tips really helping me. Appreciated, thank you sir
Thanks for the kind words, Dennis!
Wow. Gabby is amazing.
absinha6209 - She sure is!!
The word "amazing" is not enough here. I'm stunned.
ken you are not only a great singer, you are scientist and teacher. I'm really glad I did find your channel.
She Blinded me with SCIENCE! I'm glad you're here, manicero06!
Is gabriela still singing? She was getting popular here in Czechia in 2011-2013 but then we just didnt hear from her.
Speech Language Pathologist here. Love your content! You speak my “language”!
a voice teacher told me to keep using more air when i was straining. i didn’t get it because every time i used a lot of air it would hurt like hell. thank you for confirming my suspicions. dont plan on doing that again
Thanks a lot, Ken! I did start out with fry for distortion but soon realised it doesn't help with the higher notes. I followed your videos and worked on developing a strong clean sound first and now the compression comes in naturally and very effortlessly. You're the best! ❤❤
Awesome, Rimpi!
Ken, you are so incredible. Gabby's voice in singing turned out so awesome
Her voice just keeps getting better and better!
Always amazing to drop in and check on Ken's classes. Teaching is also a gift.
I will binge watch through your other videos!! Very excited about your approach! :)
best, Cat
Catherine Corelli It makes me happy knowing you enjoy the videos. Thanks! 🐈
omg your student Gabriela is just out of this world🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 she is beyond amazing. she is my role model. hope to learn from her
Thank you so much!!

Oh my GODDDDDD !!!! Gabriela Gunčíková has such an amazing voice !
This channel is so refreshing. No BS politics slipped in. Just awesome joy. KT is the man! GG is breaking mens hearts in a fantastic joyful way all over! Ha haaaa! Love it!
Don't even get me going on XC!
Your eyeballs are going to fall out if you keep falling in love with every video you watch, no! You are having such a good time!
Jared G. Great to hear that!
This is why you're the maestro!!! Awesome lesson...thank you, Ken!!! 💗 💗 💗
Thanks for the kind words, Shauna!
noticed I’m getting louder.
It’s getting harder to conceal my practice
Soldier1287💪💪💪
Our coach in madrigals in high school she said all of this. She was with the Va. Opera! She was over compressing and not controlling her air! I heard it in the first part of the video! You have too have control your voice! Enjoy your talent and make it work for you!
Yes, Kennith. Over-singing or Over-compressing the vocal cords is really bad for your voice. Just the right amount of compression can help your voice to last a lifetime.
That note Gabby hits in "Man in the Box" at 9:28 is so pure!
luapjb She is so powerful!
I’m not much of a singer at all. I just sing with one earbud in fooling around but your videos are extremely interesting. I never realized how much there really is to singing properly. Keep up the great work, Ken!!!
Will do! Thank you!
You're an amazing teacher, Even though I speak Spanish, I'm following your videos, I can understand a little you say, I really love music and you are so useful to me, thanks a lot from Mexico.
Thanks, Jose. My course is available with Spanish subtitles. Check it out: kentamplinvocalacademy.com/es/
