This weeks Good Job podcast guest is Tatiana Shmayluk from Jinjer. It is difficult to think of anyone that fully embodies the idea of Roaring as much as Tatiana. If you haven’t come across her work, I really suggest you check out her band Jinjer, a band that combine genres like reggae, jazz and funk with metal. In this episode we chat about how Tatiana learned to scream, her thoughts on how to be an extrovert on stage but an introvert in life and of course, her journey from student in Ukraine to Metal artist.

Both of you ladies are amazing.

"Metal is a serious genre, just like classical music. It's for intelligent people." Oh, I agree :)
Metal musician compose great music. A lot of talent out there. Check out the song countless skies by Be'Lakor.
Metal has a lot of connections to classical historically and musically.
then there's grindcore! - (Not saying grindcore is stupid... it's just not serious)
There's so many wise and intelligent people in Metal, but sadly there are also many idiots. Makes me kinda angry, but i guess it can't be perfect and it does't stop me from enjoying the most brilliant and honest musicians this planet has to offer.
I may not be a smart man Jenny, but I know what metal is!
"I've always been strange and quiet, but with a loud mind." That one hit pretty close to home.
Same! I'm sure loud in the inside😅🤟
@@clansing97 🤘
Yeah. Others were like "you're a quiet person, but you listen to loud music?"
It sounds alot like ADD/ADHD...I totally understands why she prefers to be home alone alot becouse you take in so much moore information then others who dont have that mind, you can't really sortout stuff that's noncens or information that isn't that important. from sound to images, it all gets in.. no filter. then you have to have moore time re-chargeing you batteries, you get lockdown...people that don't suffer from this think it's a minor thing to deal with but it's not, it's extreamly tiering the thoughts goes in 1000m/h no stop no rest only thing to calm it down is to do creative stuff in silence all by your self no interuptions. And medication of course
I didn't know Beth was such a good interviewer. She made Tatiana feel relaxed and let her talk freely without interruption. We love hearing Tatiana talk about her life, she is such an amazing talent. Also, I was born in Largs now living in the south of UK, Beth's accent sounds very nice to me lol
I've often joked that Tatiana singing is evidence of demonic possession. Now I imagine an 8 year old Tatiana doing that. Makes me smile. She is truly fantastic.
I like how Tati looks like a total badass and yet just completely normal at the same time.
I've seen alot of interviews where she didn't open up personally like she did with you, I thought it was an awesome interview, thxs for doing this, your both awesome 👍
Thank you!
@@BethRoars I just watched this again and it was better than the first time,Tati made me shed a few tears this time.🦋
@@BethRoars she truly trusted In you, she got the feeling and felt free to open her "secret box", usually she doesn't on others interviews. I mean, your smile and genuinely relaxing warm way to talk really made Tati's chill and get comfortable. Awesome Beth!!! Wonderful interview ❤️
*'Quiet, with a loud mind'.*
Something I can identify with, but could never have expressed so simply and beautifully.
This exactly! The reactions I get when I give voice to just the edge of my thoughts.
Completely agree with you. Fantastic quote.
I just want to hug Tati. She seems so vulnerable here. This woman who commands the stage like no other sitting there in her jumper talking about shattered expectations and how she never knew what would become of her dream. Thank you for this interview, Beth. You did a really good job with this one. Love you both.
Thank you!
Thank you, Beth, for having an intelligent set of questions to ask Tati. I think Tati enjoyed it, too.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Yea she looked very happy to talk with you. I think Tatiana likes to talk to people that are "better" then she is in singing and music...hm maybe not better but knows alot and are really good..think she respekt that alot..you know what you talk about..
It was mighty good give your self a high five ❤
I've never liked a video 12 days before it premiered before ... until now.
When a special vocal coach meets a special vocal artist, you know it's going to be RAWRIN' good!
I agree that is so sweet 💐
Tatiana is the only person I've ever seen who can rock cat eye glasses and not look like a schoolteacher or librarian, haha. Also love that she looks more nervous than Beth, haha, wasn't expecting that.
Beth your first reaction to Jinjer is my favorite reaction from all. The shock and joy when you first heard Jinjer.. I'd be completely down with a Beth and Tati collab all day everyday .
She is a good lyricist and writer too.
Goes to show how down to earth this band is, won't catch many celebrities giving interviews to a youtuber, and that's their mistake. They are all amazing humble people in Jinjer
It amazes me how every interview I see of Tatiana, she talks a bit of broken English, but when she sings, her english is perfect.
Up until now, most rock and metal bands sing in a western(meaning American) accent. So the music that artists have grown up with was sung with that accent. So as they mimicked the music they loved, they learned to sing in an American accent.
As the number of Scandinavian and European bands making the international scene rises, we will possibly hear more of their accent in their music.
Singing, or lines in acting are rehearsed. Conversations are not. Also, singing uses tricks to not strain their voice by using different vowels that are easier for the voice. If in conversation you say "pliis stej" you would learn that singing that is easier with "plees stey"
It's called being bilingual, and coming from a Russian speaker, she really controls her pronunciation. She doesn't have that heavy Russian accent the other guys have, and it's probably because the songs are written and sang in English... See how it's all connected?
But if you’re an English speaker naturally, you can learn how to sing in another language if you just work on the pronunciations.
Check out Ozzy Osbourne.....can't understand anything he says when talking but can understand his vocal singing.
It may be Tatiana's ability to scream that has brought her and Jinjer fame and I love it as well but her clean singing is angelic.
My brain literally cant understand how her voice can sound like so many different things
Also how she can look totally different all the time
Its incredible
I dont listen to that music genre often but man is it impressive
Hard work and talent will be the key 😉
I am one of the males in the world that was inspired by Tatiana to begin the journey into harsh vocals. Never has anyone inspired me more than this goddess!
Look up Tallah and their singer Justin.
Im so glad that Beth now has 532K subscribers! She got enough pull now that getting interview time with artists is now a real possibility! You deserve it, Beth! Been here way before 100K!
Thank you!
Tati doubt herself... constantly... as sweet as incredible to me. During more than 35 years of live shows, I saw a lot of impressive artists on stage. Big names like Neil Young, Ian Anderson, David Gilmour, Layne Staley, Phil Anselmo, James Hetfield, Mike Patton, Maynard James Keenan and a lot of others... Nobody impressed me as much as Tatiana ! Love Jinjer ! Thanks to the 4 of them to bring me so much good feelings !!! :-D And thanks to you, Beth, for this interview. ;-)
Being from Mexico, I felt proud Tatiana wanted to tour here, 😊
It's mind blowing that Tati doesn't even know exactly how she does what she does. When Beth asked her about it I kept hoping Beth would then ask how did you know how to growl without hurting yourself.
Brian, much the same thing happened in the guitar community. It's only been in the past 5 years or so that the various guitar techniques have been "codified" and explained down to the bio mechanical elements. It's kinda funny to go back and re-watch the "instructional" videos of my youth, by the very people performing these amazing feats of guitar playing; Guitarists like Vinnie Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Marty Friedman, so on and so forth... Made videos that basically came down to:" Well, you just kinda do it" :) They would play snippets of their songs slow to "show us how it was done", what they didn't know is that one plays differently when doing it slow X Fast. It wasn't until people like Troy Grady and others took a step back and really spent A LOT OF TIME analyzing their playing that we finally understood what was going on "under the hood".
Even myself, at one point something just clicked inside my brain and I could just do it, but if you asked me to explain it I wouldn't have been able to. I would probably have tried to explain it, but much like he masters would have come way short :)
I now know that I developed a hybrid picking technique comprised of downward and upward pick slanting, sweep picking, and that I am "chunking" information so my brain can keep up with it, but back in the day I would have told you to just practice....
@@marviosantos Yeah, self-taught after not understanding the "how to play" videos I had as a kid and it was cool to watch the S&M behind the scenes documentary Metallica did in 99 and James Hetfield being utterly confused because he didn't know any chords, he just played and it came naturally. Same with me, I've been playing since 2000 and I could only show you what a C chord is, no idea what the rest are.
Reminds me of an interview I saw with Michael Winslow "The man of 10,000 sound effects". When asked how he was able to make all those sounds, his answer was: I have no idea and I'm afraid that if I ever figure it out, I won't be able to do it anymore.
“I’m quiet, but with a loud mind.”
What a wonderfully poetic way of saying something.
Tati is so humble and funny. We as fans make lots of different images about her, good job in this interview Beth.
""In my dreams, I can find the answer." I love her.
So cool, Tatiana gives so many interviews to different guys.
And I’m so glad, that Beth have interviewed her. One of the best reactors on the youtube. Big thanks☺️
Thoroughly enjoyed that interview, very insightful and very professionally presented.
Much appreciated! Thanks for listening!
I believe this is the most concise interview I’ve seen with Tati. Good job!
I remember when I first watched you reacting to her song Pisces and it's so cool that you got to talk to her! One of my favorite metal vocalists from the last decade being interviewed by one of my favorite music analyst content creators! Pure gold
This will be your most viewed video since your Pisces reaction :)
PS I met the band at a concert last year and they're all absolutely lovely. I hope you enjoy it.
This interview is incredible, on both levels. You, Beth, and you, Tatiana! You’re both incredible in your own ways. All the very best to you both x
This truly shows how far you’ve come, Beth! As for you, Tatiana? I fully appreciate how awesome you are. And to agree to come onto Beths channel? Well, that just shows how’s awesome you are! You and your band are incredible 🤟
Liverpool fan eh?
She's so cool!!!! So different uaauu... in her performances her aura is pure power, and watching this is the opposite
the interview was aweeesome !!!! thank you so much Beth, good job!!!
I laugh so much when tatiana said "WTF is fry or gutural ai ai ai"😂
great interview! It's the only interview I've seen where you let her talk and not try to monopolize the discussion. Well done.
You know what's interesting? The part when Tatyana says that her Growling/Singing requires constant practice, that if she goes for long enough without doing it she "forgets" how to do it. It reminded me a lot of an interview Senna gave once upon returning from break from a previous season. Mind you, he was already 2 times F1 world champion at that point, after his first practice lap, returning to the garage he said (paraphrasing):" Wow, it is so easy to forget how hard it is to drive these cars, you really have to keep on it or loose it".
It goes to the constant struggle we all go through doing something that requires a high skill level, lay people may think that it's a "gift", that you are "born with it". Nothing is further from the truth !
Its so nice to see Senna being metioned, makes this brazillian proud :')

Beth....thanks for doing what you do. And thanks for interviewing one of the best vocalists in a long while.
awesome interview! Tatiana is the greatest singer of all time and such a gorgeous young lady. I had the pleasure of seeing them in Houston in 2019 and I have to say it was the best concert ever. The whole band is incredible.
❤❤❤She's such a sweetheart but also so powerful. What a good role model for young women🙏🤘
"This world needs more warm uniqueness" - Tati - Amen
Tatiana is awesome. She admits she could be wrong while soo sincerely sharing how she feels about what existence means to her. And Beth did a fantastic job with this interview. All the way around, I enjoyed this very much. Thank you ladies.
Thank you!
I think this may just be a girlcrush fulfilled. Going to be a good one.
💯💯
She has a partner btw.
@@jamesdragonforce that's why it is called crush 🤷♂️😅
@@jamesdragonforce She has? For a while I thought she and Eugene were a couple, but it turns out they are not. As a partner I assume she is quite a challenge in a relationship.
@@stringbenderbb It’s the drummer from Suicide Silence. Alex Lopez
Tati is an incredible person and vocalist. Great interview. It is sad she doubts herself when she is so gifted, goes to show that self doubt is prevalent in all aspects of life.
The part about the lady saying "now I understand why you are bad at your studies" really got me. Everyone has their strengths and I love when even teachers recognize this even when they might not be good in their class or something
I bet she would’ve rocked any academic endeavor if it were driven by that passion that drives her music.
sometimes it just isn't it. And we all would be better off if we ourselves, but also teachers, mentors and parents would realize that instead of artificially squeezing ourselves down careeer paths to just fulfill expectations or bet on having a living. putting all on one card like Tati did can be incredibly risky, but also fulfilling.
Two of my favorite people! What a gift! Thanks, Beth.
So cool! Love Tati. I've seen other interviews with her and English is not her first language, but she is always brutally honest which is refreshing.
I'm so glad you were able to interview her. I can't wait until they start touring in the USA again.
Love Tatiana! Thank you for doing this interview Beth! 🤩
Tatiana is the most amazing singer..gifted & talented & gooorgeous. And...humble.
Definitely the best interview I have seen with Tatiana. She was so relaxed and engaged. Great interview.
This is awesome can’t wait Tatiana is best metal vocalist on the planet currently and the rest of Jinjer are top notch too!
I absolutely love Jinjer. Great band, great fan base, great musicians. If you ever have an opportunity to see them live, you absolutely must. Vlad, Eugene and Roman are all phenomenal musicians and are super nice approachable people too. Jinjer deserve all the success.
The little "rahr" in between segments killed me! I love that little tag, and I was not expecting it. Not my first Beth Roars by any means, but my first Good Job, and well, good job!
holy cow! what a great guest to get for the podcast!!

This was an absolutely stellar interview!! Tati seemed so relaxed with you and you both looked like you were enjoying your time together. Two badass ladies killing it! ❤️🤘
Tatiana is such a fantastic woman. Always enjoy her interviews. Her band just keeps getting more bad ass with every album.
i been on a major Jinjer kick lately. The King Of Everything album is stellar.

Great interview. I love how genuine and down to earth Tatiana is.
She is not afraid to be vulnerable. That makes her relatable and only adds to why I find her so likable and fascinating.
you said what was it two years ish ago that you would love to chat with Tatiana, now here we are. thank you both Beth, and Tatiana for this interview.

Thank you, Beth, for doing this interview!
She always gives appropriate props to Dr. Otep. Otep is so amazing, to me, what Rage Against the Machine would be if they were more diverse stylistically. What a show that could be, Jinjer and Otep on the same stage!

She's 100% correct about the introvert and extrovert explanation. Nobody is 100% of one and nobody is 50/50 either. Everybody has both traits but the percentage will be one sided and you'll lean on those traits when needed.
Great to hear a shout out for Otep :)
Love it Beth, awesome interview the wonderful Tatiana! Love Jinjer and their message to the world... Be yourself and tell your story to all that will listen!
This is so amazing, she's a literal queen of music imo.
Tatiana is so amazing! Great job Beth, this interview was awesome
Thank you Tatiana, for being genuine about your answers; especially for the "making profit" of your singing prowess. It's so easy to lie right there and say it was natural and that you had no intentions of making something for the accolades of it, not that either way is wrong, but it's so very refreshing to hear honesty and clear intentions. Very much like you said when you "knew" you were going to go somewhere and what desire you had to take you there. As opposed to "oh I just happened to have done it, no design im just lucky" or something.
Forgot to say thanks so much to you both for giving us a look behind the stage tatiana we see. I’m not a big growler kinda girl, but I can appreciate the hard ass work that you have to put in for your craft. And to do it and not ruin your voice is amazing.
Thank you Amber!

Magnificent. You were meant for music journalism, Beth. You let your subjects speak for themselves, but manage to coax things out of them by getting them to trust you. ❤️
Great interview, great questions. Tatiana was enjoying them too I could tell and was fully engaged.

I can't wait!
When I first listened to female singers doing gutteral vocals I started listening to Arch enemy. I liked Alyssa's gritty and raw vocals, so when Jinjer started blowing up, I was definitely curious about them. So when I heard Pisces I was blown away, when Tati began using her growls. The power of her voice just made it clear that I would follow this band for as long as I could.
I love how honest is
Good Lord, the more she talks the more I relate and love her. "Before I go to bed, I ask my subconcious a question, Then I dream the answer." Thats %$#@! brilliant!!
