Another Laco today, and it does indeed have a sting in the tail. The bracelet. It isn't very good. Easily fixed by making a better one! It is a shame because the rest of the watch is pretty sweet for a clean and modern German diver. Cheers, Jody
Hello all! I forgot the siren in this one: Laco sent me the watch for free. The new UA-cam uploader has the option in Australia to add a 'Paid Promotion' pop up. I'll use both in future! Just so we're clear. Cheers, Jody
Does that mean this watch may one day be a prize for someone, like ME Just one more giveaway …. 👍😂 EDIT: I like it and great review as always.
That's the first thing I noticed after hitting the like button.
All respect ✊ to you Jody, so are you keeping the watch? It’s a great 👍 diver except for the bracelet like you say making it a $750 Watch in my opinion.
I always appreciate your transparency on reviews when the watch is sent to you by the company; doubly so when the watch has an issue or two that cause the review to be less-than-stellar. Keep it up!
i even thought you're gonna quit with that tradition and i saw this comment and relaxed. ) keep up the great work!
Beautiful piece but my wallet laco of money.
I like this comment, so I pressed like.
Zing
Is it even wortho 1000 bucos?
Love both my Laco Squad watches.. the Atacama and Tundra..and customer service from the company is OUTSTANDING!!!
Brilliant comment LOL!
Worth noting that Laco obviously listened to people on this one. The bracelet has been changed and is now an incredibly chunky, over engineered, milled unit that certainly can't be called not fit for purpose. Well done Laco and I'm sure reviews like this one helped sway them on it.
That bracelet is the most Seiko bracelet I've seen on a none-Seiko watch
German? Scorpion? I spent the entire review humming 'there's no one like you.'
Greetings from northen Sweden
I agree with the music but for myself I was humming The Windof Change.
I mean,, going from pilots and fliegers to divers...
@@pederlindstrom3132 Blackout, Dude!
Why do you guys think he wrote sting in the tail on the thumbnail...
It amazes me how discerning I've become in the less-than-a-year that I have been collecting and appreciating watches. And I attribute it to the work you and others like you do researching and evaluating timepieces. Thanks for this great video. I agree; it's an otherwise fine watch undone by the not-so minor details.
David Rosenblum What David said! 👆🏻👆🏻
Love how at 7:53 you set the date to 3 to make it look better. Attention to detail Jody, that's what sets you apart!
The 14 year old me in the 80s would be all over the scorpion on a green nato. The 40-something now will admire from afar!
I'm 35 and would love it with just a black on black nato. Vere clean look!
Nope the 40 you should buy a green suit to flex on the young uns, whilst sporting a full fat wallet Hugo Boss green.
TheMainCore I also like the Dievas shadow but it’s extreme! www.dievaswatches.com/shadow.html
The 54 year old in me still has half a dozen Scorpions LPs vinyl
Steve C that’s just the wind of change!
It's beautiful! The caseback made my day. It's cool how the scorpion is on attack mode. And the green, i just love it. The watch is out of my league though.
Nice t-shirt Jody , your love of green dials I’d always had you pegged as a Celtic fan
Awesome looking watch and that date window, unlike many other watches, is so low profile I love it.
I love that you called Laco out on that clasp! Bravo Sir! Also appreciate that you test the lume. For a dive watch this is critical.
Brilliant review man. No biases that's what I like to see
Completely agree about the bracelet; let’s hope the Laco marketeers are watching your (excellent btw!) reviews!
Dang that is one of the coolest watches I have seen in a long time that one actually excites me like watches used to
This is what i call comprehensive useful review.
High quality work Jody.
Full Support from me.
Very good review. It was also very nice of you to show the comparison between the really inexpensive bracelet and the original watch bracelet. Great catch. Thanks for sharing this video and cheers.
Just to update... looks like your critique of the subpar clasp worked. Recently obtained one of the Atlantik models and lo and behold there is now a proper milled upper and lower milled clasp to include 4 holes of micro adjust... adjustment
Good stuff!!
I really liked that one the moment I saw it. 100% agree with your review Jody, perhaps it’s one to look out for pre-owned then change out the bracelet! Loved the “Pain in the a.... 🤣
Still a German 1000 meter diver for less than 900, get the rubber strap version a buy a decent Strapcode bracelet ... done and done. I've visited the factory and a little inside info the Scorpion and "Squad" watch line. These were designed with the consultation of the German Special Forces so I don't doubt these are well designed, tool watches.
Simply a stunning watch. Way of my budget at the moment (it's getting hot, I'm buying the second air conditioner for the house) but maybe next year. A real beauty..
Great review as always. My Christmas came early, got both of my nice new Borealis Adnaga's today. One for me and one for my son, they look fantastic. keep up the good work.
I agree Jody.. great looking watch with solid specs, love the position of date window without losing any or all of the 3 o’clock indices.
Unfortunately the bracelet is a very poor quality choice at that price range.
Great review Jody , thanks.
Mate you have the most radest tees! Cheers on doing the review on the laco! I've been eyeing that laco for a while now...not the green one but the bullhead
Love my Laco Tundra and Atacama Squad watches..and the customer service is outstanding!! Top Notch.
It is a good looking watch for sure. It reminds me of some Oris styles which I'd rather buy though. The bracelet is flimsy for a high end Watch as you pointed out!
Love the green, my favourite colour! :)
Jody, you're a genius man! Thank you! There's no way I'm buying that with that bracelet.
The black/blue one looks soooo good.
Touch of the Sinn about it. I like it.
I love this type of bezel. Reminds me of Marathon Watches. Which also cost around that price.
I was just checking out the Atlantik model and it looks gorgeous! My wallet isn't too happy though 🤣 Happy holidays Jody!
Finally a really decent bezel.
120 clicks are only on the market to cover up manufacturing inaccuracies in adjustment and backplay.
A bezel with 60 clicks just HAS to be adjusted precisely and makes the slightest inaccuracy VERY obvious.
Hi Jody , great review and I really like green hands etc it just makes the watch pop , thanks again mate cheers ...
You are gifted.
First thing I do if a watch only comes on a bracelet is ditch it and buy some nice after market straps so bracelets never an issue for me ,Love the look and the 60 click bezel ,its not in my price range but see it competing against Sinn and others pretty well .
Cool shirt, I used to live near Pittodrie Stadium.
Nice watch too.
Totally agree with you on that bracelet. Why can’t watch manufacturers do what Strapcode can?
Clever review.
Keep'em coming.
As always another great review Jody. I have to say I loved the design of that watch, really ticks every box of what I look for in a watch. Now the strap, well I do not like metal straps full stop so that would be the first thing to go even if it was a fantastic one, when I bought my Seiko Sun021 it same with a metal bracelet and a rubber strap, first thing to do ditch the metal bracelet.
Now the price, sadly I am now loaded with cash, like most people I have a limited amount of money at the end of the month to put towards little treats, £900 odd on a watch is well out of my price range, I could never justify spending that amount of money on a watch. I spent over 3 weeks justifying to me self spending £400 odd on a Steinhart Flieger.
Keep up the excellent videos, hope those awful forest fires are not effecting you and your friends/family
Another nice review Jody , thanks
I absolutely love the Green!!
Spot on review once again Jodi 👍
It's a beauty. Can't wait for you to make your video: Laco alternative for less than.....
Looks a bit like Fortis Marinemaster, which I like a lot. Really cool.
Pin and collar isn’t a deal breaker for me - you find this on many watches in this pricerange, like my Longines Conquest...
The clasp is a different story and needs to be changed.
All in all a very interesting watch from a great company and good to see that they could do more as their Fliegers...
Longines is all about added cost without added value.
Scott Paris - Troll somewhere else!
Nice review.
I actually got the altantik version earlier this year. I really like it, but I see your points on the bracelet, there is room for improvement.
I got mine from Gnoman, It seems they don’t sell Lacos at this time as I didn’t see Laco as one of the brands.
Hi Jody,I have this watch and you are bang on with your review, great watch, pants bracelet. I will probably go to my default setting and put a staib on it.😏
That's a very fair assessment. Many of the Laco divers I see on Insta have been shifted onto aftermarket mesh bracelets and I think you've shown why. It may resolve the problems but I wonder about the extra cost. As for the rubber NATO - wow. Eye catching.
I was able to get a used Atacama 2 for a great price, but the bracelet is quirky. Atacamas have the crown at 12 with big articulated primary links and a cut-out for the crown. The bracelet is an acquired taste, made up for by the watch itself. It's great, although it might move-on if I find the right Sinn or Damasko 8-) (No, not spending money I haven't made yet, of course not)
Very cool sporty and elegant watch!
Great review Jody! Thanks :)
Love love love the green!!
Mr. Jody, Hi from Texas! Great show as always. How about 300 M Diver with a superb bracelet, ETA 2893-2 (yup…..Office GMT just for good measure) Solid end links….screws…..milled clasp for.. …. .. $740.00 USD! A Steinhart Ocean 39 Vintage GMT (indeed, a German Dive Watch well below $1000.00 USD.) And NO, it is not a replica of any watch. An homage, yes, of course. But the original Rolex GMT Master was a Traveller GMT, had a Cyclops, was smaller, and had a Bakelite bezel, not ceramic. It is though, an awesome homage with a really terrific build quality. I think it may be more watch for the buck than the Laco but of course, Laco has horological roots that are deeply planted and have stood the test of time. Sir, you run one of my top 3 favorite watch channels on YT. Thank you Jody!
Boom! Love fresh of the press uploads
I LOVE that green, especially on that rubber nato.
But for the money (provided brand name isn't an issue) I think the Formex is simply the better buy. I love the looks of that as well...
Good review Jody! Thank you! 🥃
Oh boy... What a beautiful watch! Laco kills it. That green hand looks awesome. Bezel looks also very good. To be honest I'd wear it on that green rubber! That strap looks so much better than the bracelet... Watch is unfortunately 500€ too expensive for me ....
Come on you Dons!!! Nice to see that your a Aberdeen fan Jody
What a surprise today , my favourite you tube Chanel is wearing my postcode , you canna beat that .
Really attractive watch, had the lack of adjustment problem with the bracelet of my Hamilton Khaki field, just couldn’t get it to fit so bought a suede JPM strap. That Laco looks great on that metal bracelet such a shame if you buy one and can’t get it to sit right. Maybe companies that supply bracelets without much adjustment could sell different lengths of clasps so if it doesn’t quite fit you could get a matching signed clasp as an additional purchase. I’d rather spend an extra £30-£40 and have it look and feel right
I like it. Slightly big but l will still wear it. That green color is kind of unique. I think that's the first diver l saw with only 60 clicks on the bezel, l like it.
Really has that German approach...principally black and white with a single standout color. Reminds me of Damasko and Sinn, if Sinn discovers colors.
I MUCH prefer pin and collar link connectors. Screwed links look cool, but invariably one will someday come loose and it you don't notice it in time you'll dump you watch - hopefully not onto concrete - and you'll loose the screw. IF you're lucky, you'll have an extra screw from an unused link. If not, well, you're screwed... I'll take pin and collar any day.
Looks very Phoiboish.
Mate of mine just got his submariner from AD and he only had to wait for 5 months, 6 and a half grand, picked the right time to want one, lucky git lol. Papers not witheld either, still he complained that not even a polishing cloth was thrown in.
I have always wanted the Explorer, but must say, the sub feels and looks fantastic on the wrist.
Glad to hear another person sounding off about crappy bracelets. I've always been highly critical of companies that only design watch heads and leave their bracelets/clasps to be an afterthought. It's like they designed a nice little watch but then grabbed any old bracelet from the bottom of the bin. The head is the watch you feel. The bracelet and clasp is the watch you feel. Save your money and go after for a watch that was wholly thoughtful in it's design.
The case back is a stunner.
J, you are not being harsh about the bracelet! Many of us wear our watches for hours at a time and if the bracelet has sharp edges & digs into our skin, or is unable to be properly adjusted, then must be it changed. For a (very handsome) $900+ timepiece, there is no excuse for the subpar bracelet. Thank you for another honest review sir!
Love the look of this watch and with the bracelet deficiencies aside, this seems pretty rock solid. The clean dial without the big applied markers is very appealing to my eye. I just think this is about $100-150 too much for not having those two little words at the bottom of the dial. If they priced it at $695 on a bracelet it would be perfect for the money.
I think the takeaway is buy it on the colour matched rubber (with the excellent hardware) and buy a decent third party bracelet. Great looking watch. I’d love to see the Scorpion 2 in Titanium rather that stainless, I think that would really suit this watch. Oh, and the Mojave (or maybe the Himalaya) in that vibrant orange would be the one for me!
When you said Laco to me I first though of the guy who did the guy who did "Rock Me Amadeus" but that was Falco but not Falcao who played in the 1982 World Cup for Brazil who beat a Scotland containing, IIRC 3 Aberdeen players and 1 ex-Aberdeen player. 4 degrees of speration from Jody to the Laco watch, which I like very much.
Hahha! Love it mate!
That is the same watch box that my heimdallr Sharky came in. I was quite surprised for $139.
Pittodire? Hahahaha. Nice one Jody.
Can't wait for my Newmark 71 to arrive. It's half the price of the Laco but superior in nearly every way.
Nice watch.
Looking forward to see review of San Martin bronze 62mas homage
Absolutely gorgeous diver! If I had the money for it, I'd just upgrade the bracelet while I was at it...
For that money you shouldn't have to!
Tauchmeister is a German watch company that makes budget dive watches. You can find them on Amazon, and Long Island Watch sells them. I would love to see Jody review one of them.
Thanks for sharing the watch with us, Jody. The watch itself looks pretty good. If it were 500 dollars less I would not complain. I think 40mm would fit better for me anyway, I know dive watches are supposed to be a bit bigger. But your 6 dollar bracelet is better than the one on the watch. Surely they could have made a proper bracelet. For 900 to 1000 you can find a nice used Oris and maybe just maybe a Zinn in that range on the used market. You can get a well made Squally GMT for about 700 dollars. Sorry I don't know how to spell that brand.
Great review.
I have an Aachen. It's a great watch!
I do like the watch and I do like the color as well
Hello Jody.
I must say that one is a looker and all that green... Somehow it lacks in detail.. Bracelet, thickness measurement.
Still I do want one but out of budget at the moment.
Going to the scrapyard tomorrow and that should enable me to get one of your Chineese Specials atleast.. Nomos Lamda homage maybe.
Good honest review. NIcely done.
a diver flieger.. exactly what ive been looking for.
Love the lime green accents. Really handsome
BTW, Laco must have listened to you--have you provided an update anywhere, regarding the new clasp that comes with these? Much improved! Would love to see a one-minute update to this video, added, if possible, after having a chance to review the new clasp, to get your take, and to inform the JOMW fanbase!
Laco have missed the boat on this one, and instead of Scorpion they could have called it a Parkhead Diver with its green colour scheme ( err maybe not? ), great review of a nice, but impressive watch if it was priced at 6 to 700 dollars. Hats off to you buddy with nice detective work on the bracelet 👍 Tam.
The colour scheme has been seen on the Ball Engineer divers, great channel btw
"Sting in the Tail" is the name of one of the best episodes of Danger Man, and there is a watch involved.
What sets me back is a 20mm on 42mm watch. I'm not a big fan of thos specs, it's not the best feeling on my wrist.
🤣 was worth it to stick to the end
I live 10 min away from Pittodrie stadium ;-)
Stunning watch, i just got a laco through WG not this though!
Reminds me of how I felt about the Longines Hydroconquest. $1,000 watch with a bracelet that would be an embarrassment to a microbrand at half the cost. I think some of these companies try to squeeze a few too many dollars out of their heritage.
Sinn 104 for me, that ‘Lacko’ definitely Lacking.
I was thinking the same thing, spend a few dollars more and get a much better timepiece with the Sinn
@@marcusskyfall Not a few though.
I'm more of a Damasko fan myself. Never seems to feature on channels like this.
@@Michael-4 I do not need to read these comments, stop encouraging me. The Dsub1 is outstanding.
I don’t know if it’s a sickness or what ? The more I watch your video the more I want another watch 😕 btw saw one on your older video and just bought a Glycine combat sub Gl0249. Thank for all the video uploads it surely help me to pick out another better watch for my collection,...
I enjoyed the review but honestly I’ll stick with my $130.00 citizen promaster diver Eco-Drive I think it has a better look I just need to find a bracelet other than the rubber strap it came on to dress it up a bit !
You reviewed the Aachen...hmm...I was in Aachen today 😖 but I was in the steinhart boutique there to buy a watch. 😅
In was no Laco 😉
It's a lovely watch, but would I choose it over a Chris Ward, I don't think so
Nice review Jody I like the Laco but just too many other options out there
