    This idea might sound wasteful to some, but my chickens eat all of my bad bread. They love it when I mess up!! Lol😂

      It doesn't sound wasteful to me since it's being eaten 😉

    You could also use it to make dressing/stuffing or bread pudding.

    I make bread pudding also. I cut into cubes, and soak in an egg and milk solution overnight in the fridge bake the next day.

    Lol I did it today with dinner rolls. I had frozen the dough balls so I could make just a few rolls at a time and took 24 of them out so hubby could take them to work for their holiday party tonight, put them in a pan to thaw and rise in the oven and did the unthinkable. I turned the oven on and oops. They are now completely cooked dense little pucks lol. I made a fresh batch for him to take.

    I’m very new at making sourdough bread and, needless to say, I haven’t had the greatest success. Thanks for this. I love croutons, so will definitely do this.

      @gfayecox if you haven't already tried it, her no- knead overnight sourdough loaf recipe is amazing. Super easy, very little work, and mine have turned out better than any other loaf I've made since starting sourdough during covid. Highly recommend!

    If you have a stainless steel toaster oven with convection, that is another healthier solution than just placing in some air fryers. Basically in away that is what an air fryer is. But, it seems like air fryers would be much easier to clean at times. Thank you for the video! Have a beautiful weekend ;)

    I am interested in what you've done to winterize your house. It looks like you put something over your kitchen window? What else have you done that helps? The climate where I live in much different so we are set up to cool the house, not keep it warm.

    • @TheRoseHomestead
      @TheRoseHomestead  7 місяців тому +3

      We put plastic over all of our windows. We zone heat as well. We close off our upstairs during the day and a couple of extra rooms so we only heat the most used areas. About 30 minutes before bed, we open the upstairs. We also go around the baseboards each fall to caulk if necessary. We live in a very old house and it can be difficult to heat, but, with these changes every year we stay toasty with our wood stove.

      @@TheRoseHomestead I love the idea of plastic over your windows! I bet that really helps. Older homes and mobile homes tend to be drafty. I replaced the windows in my mobile home with double-pane windows plus a double-pane sliding glass door, and it still felt a little drafty. Of course, mobile homes have thin walls, as well.

    I am new to making sourdough bread and was wondering how long I can leave out a loaf of sourdough bread without refrigeration since there is no preservatives like store bought bread.

    • @TheRoseHomestead
      @TheRoseHomestead  7 місяців тому +1

    Quick question please: How shelf stable are crumbs n croutons once they’re totally dry? Store in bags or airtight container? Thank you.

    • @TheRoseHomestead
      @TheRoseHomestead  7 місяців тому +1

      To be honest, I'm not sure exactly how long they last on the shelf. I keep mine in the freezer. The croutons will last about 4 to 5 days. I'm sure the crumbs would last quite a while though.
