Best tutorial ever. I spent 1 hour trying to balance watching other people's videos until I found this one. The changes of the camera angles are SOOOOO helpful. Thanks man.
What a great tutorial ! , you cover a few little things that the other tutorials leave out. They just happen to be the essential (little) things that have made all the difference and mean that I am now 100% set up and even passed the gimbals own checks with a 3 x excellent ! I will be using this new tool in a new music video, a huge thanks from The Southern Electric.
No review on UA-cam about RS3 Mini is this detailed. Great job mate! Covers everything, from balancing, Ronin App features, gimbal menu options, tips and tricks. One stop reference guide.
Well done- been switching between like 3 different tutorials- yours was the only one to mention CENTER MASS with the balancing part, definitely the most helpful!
my DJI RS3 mini arrived today, video shoot in 3 weeks!!!!!! FANTASTIC tutorial, made everything from set up to app use to shoot mode, so simple! THANKS JASON top chap! 👍
Having the scroll whell on the gimball set to TILT is really helpful. Much easier than always having to hit the joystick perfectly straight in order for it to not pan while you only want to tilt.
Thank you so much! After watching a few tutorials, this is the only one that helped me understand how to balance my camera. Amazing detail for beginners, appreciate this!
this is the best and the most in detailed video that I've seen of this. Being a total beginner, I didn't know what each of those locks and lever does, but you made it very very clear and easy to understand. Thanks a ton. Really appreciate this.
Wow what a great tutorial! this was so well filmed and edited. everything was concise but also easy to follow! Thank you so much!! I hit that subscribe button immediately! Thanks again!
Thank you for your detailed tutorial.I just bought one today and I can't wait for it.I'm blown away by features of that thing!I'm big fan of your channel! Thanks again
amazing!!!. best tutorial... unfortunately my Nikon Z 6ii is not pairing with this rs3 mini Could you please help with that... Thank you so much for your time
Great tutorial, thanks. I had a lot of problems getting the pan axis and I moved the camera away from the side motor a short distance and the pan axis worked great. In case someone is having the same problems. Cheers
This is the one stop shop for RS3 mini tutorial. I bet most of this crosses over into the other DJI RS3 gimbals as well Question, can this gimbal do the 360 roll in vertical orientation?
Dude, thank you so much for this video! Found it incredibly helpful and informative. Just finished setting up my new RS3 mini (first time gimbal user).
Thank you , and that might be pushing it depending on how fast you want to move the gimbal around. It's payload max is 4.4 pounds and vertical is a little harder for the gimbal I feel like, but I'm not 100% sure about that... I would recommend the the RS3 2 if you want to be covered 100% geni.us/hVWA
I think this is a tad small for the R5, but the RP will prolly work weight wise... As far as compatibility you would need to check the documentation for specific cameras.
thanks for a great tutorial...im actually dont use gimbals new to this world...is it possible to add an arca swiss quick release plate ontop of the default dji plate? since i have it attached all day long...do you think the balance would get unbalanced?
Not this gimbal, but my other larger one yes, and it works awesome!! This gimbal it should work even easier due to the smaller size and easier set-up process. As far as connecting to the camera, It looks like you can use the bluetooth remote option like I did in this video with my A74 and that will give you Focus, Photo, and Record, or you could use a cable and try other set-ups as shown here... www.dji.com/support/compatibility/rs-3-mini/a6400
Process question: If you're an experienced videographer with the funds, do you rebalance your gimbal everytime you change lens (seems like you might miss shots since it takes time)? Or do you just buy gimabls for each camera/lens combo and balance before you got out?
I only use the gimbal for specific use cases most of the time and I use prime lenses mostly as well. So Yes, if I change lenses I will re balance, but if the lens is close in size and weight it only takes about 30seconds for me to rebalance. If it is a significantly different size lens it takes a bit longer to balance. If you are using a zoom lens you can zoom a decent amount without re-balancing and you should balance at the center of the zoom range you plan on using. Heavier duty gimbals will allow for more weight change without a re-balance as well.
Thank you for sharing this! I almost purchased the RSC2 based on your video from 3 years ago. But I decided to go with the RS3 instead. Since this tutorial is for the mini, Can I use this tutorial to balance the full size Ronin RS3? The video DJI has for it isn’t as thorough and detailed as yours.
Yeah it is basically the same concept, but you might have to do it a little different depending on the arm layout. Just remember to lock the motors and do them one at a time in order 1, 2, 3, and you should be fine!
@@Jason_HermannYou’re a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you so much. I followed your exact steps and I finally got it balanced! Although I did find some nuances with the balancing part through the app. The balance test in the app doesn’t go through the same cycle as in your video. Instead it just takes me to DJI video clips showing virtual steps to balance each part of the gimbal. Nevertheless, I think I got it done. You’re very much appreciated! Thank you again!
I just bought the device and I am waiting for the cargo to be delivered. I did research, but after this video, I realized better what a right decision I made. An excellent video that is detailed, understandable and answers all the question marks. Thank you very much...🙏👋
Great video and thank you very much for sharing these tips about this gimbal just a few questions about this. There's no problems with over hearing or short recordings at all with this gimbal. Kind regards Robert. :)
Can you also slide off the axis that it’s attached to the handgrip? That way it’ll be even easier to dissemble it and transport in my backpack. Idk why they haven’t thought about this. They’d just need to put the same system they used for the vertical axis, that little locking button. It would be so convenient but I’m pretty sure there must be a way to take that out.
@@Jason_Hermann I see, would you be able to measure it for me so I can check if it fits it my backpack? Height and width with the horizontal axis detached. Thank you!
What initial balancing do you do if you use a compact camera with a zoom lens which extends ? Thanks for your video portfolio , great presentation style.
As always awesome tutorial. such a natural lecturer! I have 1 question though - How do you set your lighting so your glasses wont reflect the studio lights :)) Do you have a tut on that? thanks Jason
Good question and I didn't do anything in particular other than have my light at a 45 degree angle from me. If you have the light to much in front it will reflect, so from where I am sitting the light is to the right about 3 feet and back about 3 feet as well. I also have it raised up a little so the bottom of the softbox is about neck height and it's aiming downward a little.
Great to hear and yeah that is a pretty heavy lens, so it's going to be near the threshold of what the gimbal can balance I feel like. I know it can do it, because others have shown that combo already, but it's fairly close... All the best, Jay
Incredible tutorial - thanks Jay!
Glad you liked it and thank you very much for the super thanks Pete :) I really appreciate it!

I've watched a few and this was the most helpful. Thanks!

Do you think the mini will work with the Sony zv E10 + sigma 16mm f1.4 combo?
Yes, 100%
@@Jason_Hermann thank you!
Amazing Tutorial, I did it with the A7R5 with a 35mm 1.4, so thorough thank you and the best out of a few watched.
Glad it helped!

Dude, thank you so much for this video! Found it incredibly helpful and informative. Just finished setting up my new RS3 mini (first time gimbal user).
Amazing video! Silly question after calibrating, do we lock any of axises? Or we just choose our mode?
Thanks and Choose mode, when in use all axises must be unlocked.
@@Jason_Hermann thank you so much 🙏
many thanks for the detailed video. was really helpful setting up my gimbal. A big thumbs up !!!
Best RS3 mini tutorial
Thank you Ivan :)
I have a two way spirit level I use to level the base of my old gimble before I start the rest of the leveling routine.
Thanks!
Thanks John :)
Waiting for the RS4 mini to come out now
Another great video Jay. Like the sport mode on your Trek. We ride Treks.

Hi well done for the great explanation on all features of this gimbal. I have both the Canon RP and R5 would this work seamlessly with either body?
I think this is a tad small for the R5, but the RP will prolly work weight wise... As far as compatibility you would need to check the documentation for specific cameras.
@@Jason_Hermann brilliant ok thanks 🙏
This video was insanely good. Helpful in every way possible. Thank you.
great vid. very clearly presented. Can the bluetooth-dial control "Clear Image" since this is a digital zoom feature of the A7IV?
I'm not sure off the top of my head, but possible...
thanks for a great tutorial...im actually dont use gimbals new to this world...is it possible to add an arca swiss quick release plate ontop of the default dji plate? since i have it attached all day long...do you think the balance would get unbalanced?
Yeah you can do that or buy another arca swiss plate specific for the gimbal which people do as well.👍
Have you tested with sony a6400 and sigma 30mm 1.4? Both are not ibis or oss, and need a test for this gear.
Thank you, and great video.

You need an extra accessory to do the briefcase mode you described at 40:15 right?
You would need the handle yes.... Sorry I should have made that more clear!
Hi this is a great tutorial thanks. A question would this gimbal be suitable for my Sony FDR-AX53 camcorder, thank you.
Thanks a lot for the tutorial. Really great! It helped me to set up the gimbal with my camera 👍

For the Pano use case can this gimbal be mounted on a standard camera tripod?
