I'm an Omega fan, but can't help feeing this is where Rolex and its brand overtook them. Omega and others tried to be all 70s style and fashion, which dated quickly, while Rolex just kept making the same classic designs, which stood the test of time, and to which people gravitated as the mechanical watch market moved to the realm of luxury goods.

There's some truth to that, but on the other hand, if I were to dress up and go all out for a 70's theme event, or an opening, I'd want to wear this watch--and arrive in a Firebird. I don't see much point to buying a '70s watch that doesn't have '70s style.
