15:57 I think you guys might have a misconception of the scott Pilgrim movie. The movie is not the end all be all nor the source material, even without the movie cast people would still love this show because scott pilgrim was a series of comics first. The voice actors just ensured the movie fans would watch. The movie and the show are both pulling from the comics, minus the scott loses aspect. The show doesn't pull from the movie except for some really iconic key scenes that people love.
What I like most, beyond the return of the voice actors, is that they did a great job making it feel like Canada. It would be so easy to just ignore making it relevant, but seeing the coins as Toonies and Loonies and small setting and script details, it was nice representation. I will say, I do find the comedy hit better in the movie, but the fights definitely seem better in this animated version. Side note, an orange and coke may look bad from the outside looking in, but it tastes really good!
I hope you check out the comic! The same author of the original comic is the one who wrote for the show, and he loves jam packing references to irl Toronto and stuff in the comic as well, with lots of little details here and there.
Fun fact about the funeral, brie was not the one singing, despite the fact That she did sing black sheep by metric in the movie. Instead the singing was done by Emily Haines, lead singer of metric, who was also the original inspiration for envy adams. So not only is it a fun nod to the fact that brie sung a Haines song in the movie, but she also got to sing for the character that was inspired by herself
@@shania991Based on this comment she made during a 2019 interview she had with the Austin American-Statesman, I doubt it: "[Clash at Demonhead] is, by the way, an amazing band name, and I kind of wish that we were called that instead of Metric," Haines says. "I now follow Brie Larson, because I feel like she was kind of me, and I'm so happy for her and everything she's achieved," Haines says with a laugh. "I'm like, 'We win!'" There's also a response, too long to paste here, to a 2023 interview with Stereogum where she talks about meeting with Edgar Wright and how the song fit perfect with the scene and talks about how she's happy for Brie Larson's success and that she loved Brie's 2020 cover of Black Sheep.
This is not from the comics. The original comics were adapted into Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, more or less. This is a totally new take on the material, with the original comics writer still heavily involved.
This is both different from the books AND the movie. Reception has overall been positive but a few fans are upset it was not a 1 to 1 adaptation. I loved it myself and I love the direction it takes and how it expands on all the characters of this series
It’s sad some people don’t like the direction it went but, I just found this way more fun to watch the back story from all the exes made this super entertaining.
Loved the direction they went with this. It completely suprised me when the first episode finished, a perfect example of expectation subversion imo. Can't wait to see how y'all enjoy the rest of the show
Good news for you guys who liked the video game segment so much; there actually is a Scott Pilgrim game! It's even in that type of pixel style. It's a sidescrolling arcade-style beat-em-up, and well loved by fans of that genre.
This series offers a brand new perspective to the franchise. Even the comics were written mostly like the movie (except with more details and side plots) so this is all new!
I would say the comic is a more in depth movie version- if people liked the show's more causal fun humor and action + fleshed out characters, that's what the comics are for the characters actually meant to be focused on(same author after all). It had character arcs and growths for characters as well as more fun chill dialogue times instead of rushing and focusing on the action/beating the exes. A lot of the ex-beatdowns are more casual instead of action oriented and talking through them, or breezed over because the main point is the character interactions/growth.
Something I just thought of with your comment... When the original creators want to tell a different but similar story, it is something amazing to happen. We've seen it with One Piece, Invincible, and now this show. I'm all for this when the original creator is doing this themselves, but I feel it's very niche in what stories can do it.
There are a lot of fans that are disappointed this wasn't a straight to comic adaptation as they felt the movie missed out on a lot of character development and just missing some characters in general that would have been great inclusions. The last 3 volumes of the comic really emphasizes on Scott's journey of realizing how incredibly awful he is when it comes to playing the victim and treating the women in his life terribly. I get it, fans really want to see that stronger character development arc that Scott goes through while seeing the side character's perspective that he's harmed since he is such a shitty person, and also try to touch up more on Ramona's issues too. I think the animated series plays as an interesting take for fans who've consumed the comic, movie, and video game. It acts as a nice breath of fresh air and just seeing more comicisms such as the over the top action and reality bending settings be used in animated format is already very enjoyable. I think if the disappointed fans stop just thinking about expecting a straight comic adaptation this variation of the story is quite enjoyable in its own rights, even with its own story/character faults too.
3:00 German Guy here, we are the Queens and Kings of mixin beverages. Cola and Orange Juice/Lemon Juice/Fanta( European) is the bomb! It is so good that there are companys producing that stuff, called Spezi and Mezzo Mix.
This series is amazing. Howev, this isn't an accurate adaptation of the comics, its more like a "what if" adaptation. The creator of Scott Pilgrim said that the comics, the movie, the game, and the series are it's own universes and timelines
Guys Matthew is Indian; there are multiple gods in Hinduism who have spears as weapons. Also, Zeus is the god of lighting. Poseidon is the god of the sea. which is the trident comment you mention. I don't know how you got those two mixed up.
I actually wasn't very impressed when I watched the first episode, I had to keep going and let the show grow on me on its own merits. But I had a lot of trouble with little things like the voice acting and comedic timing, which I couldn't help comparing to the movie and thought were less snappy and fun than they were there. The direction the show takes really surprised me, though. I thought it was going to be an adaptation of the original graphic novels, which are similar to the movie but take place over a longer time period and have more time to develop details and characters. But, clearly, the show goes its own entirely different way with its "what if" scenarios, and it ends up being a lot of fun.
3:27 the joke really went over their head huh? Meta reference about Michael Cera playing Scott in both versions of the universe. And no it's not the same as in the movie, it's based on the original comics styled as manga, but an alternate versions since the movie is an actual copy of the first Scott Pilgrim book.
ahhh i love you guys reacting to this. this will be fun... and wasn't expecting oak to make the poseidon correction, was looking through the comments for it. lol 🫡
2:54 That's literally a product from Coca Cola ... it's called Mezzo Mix ... interestingly enough, that mostly seems to be a thing in German speaking countries ... huh ... weird ... xD
If you guys are going to be doing any Christmas themed reactions next month I’d love to recommend Klaus! It’s a top tier Christmas Origin story and it doesn’t get enough love. Keep up the great reactions!! ♥️
Did you guys forget that Scott Pilgrim vs the World is based on a comic series? You guys briefly mentioned the comics in this video, but it looks like that fact slips your minds on occasion. Similarities to the movie are inevitable due to that. That would be like complaining that Spiderman has the same or a similar backstory in most TV adaptations, even though that's due to them usually being based on the same source material of comics. Consider yourselves lucky that this show is a "what if?" story in disguise.
Sooo this isn't strictly speaking anime, but I feel like this is still the closest you've come to watching anime so far. Hope you'll enjoy the series. It's super creative :)
It IS animated by Science Saru, a Japanese animation studio... the source material is obviously not Japanese, but definitely anime and video game inspired according to Bryan Lee O'Malley.
Just to tell you, Orange juice and Cola is really addictive and it has a stingy taste but overall it tastes good. It tastes much better with Dr. pepper though! 👍
Superbad is indeed the best Hollywood high school comedy ever made. It's because it feels grounded and realistic in tone, has unique and likable characters, the jokes are really funny, and the actors actually look like 17 year olds🤣. Plus that movie has so many iconic lines!
Haven't tried orange juice and cola but have many times had orange soda and cola, which tastes good, so I can imagine orange juice and cola not being as bad as it sounds either ^^ can't say for sure tho until I tried it
Well, you might need to know that this isn't for you movie watchers, this is for people who liked the graphics. Its just difficult to understand what you want. You said you didnt want for it to be the same, but when you get no scott you complain
I loved the show, the only reason the creator wrote it is because it’s new. People that wanted a complete retelling I get it kinda, but this is better. I’ve personally watched the movie 10+ times, I would have loved more from the comics to be in the show but the animation in some scenes makes me not care. Studio science Saru* did a great job on this.
I love the direction they went of course you get some parts scene for scene from the movie but, as you go on it goes a completely different direction it’s a really fun watch that first episode ending had me so COMFUSED😂. I don’t remember the comics fully but the fact we are getting like more of everybody else’s back story, getting to gain some sympathy from the exes this was such a fun watch.
can you watch the movie deep sea? for me it is the best movie for animation for this year .. deep sea 2023 xiaopeng tian directors in this movie .. i guarantee you will not regret watching this movie

Trivia: the last comic volume released a week before the movie, meaning it couldn't possibly have the finalized ending to work with.

honest exs (ed's) was a throwback, that's furrsure

Is it true the actual singer was a little jealous? because I think Brie got a lot of praise when her version came out
@@shania991 that I'm not sure of lol.

The show is called Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. Well, he took off.
Matthew Patel's additional arms and trident are a reference to Hindu mythology.
This is both different from the books AND the movie. Reception has overall been positive but a few fans are upset it was not a 1 to 1 adaptation. I loved it myself and I love the direction it takes and how it expands on all the characters of this series

@@shania991 Same, I find it gives both versions more value and even retroactively adds some new context to characters like Todd and Wallace
Loved the direction they went with this. It completely suprised me when the first episode finished, a perfect example of expectation subversion imo. Can't wait to see how y'all enjoy the rest of the show

For the song envy sang they actually got the Lead Singer of Metric to sing! I liked it a lot too lmao
The answer with the Jaleel White Sonic voice name drop....love it.
The trident is a Trishula, which is a weapon of the Hinduism gods, especially Lord Shiva. I imagine is based on Patel's obvious Indian background.

Cola:Orange juice = 60:40
that tastes good
You should check out Blue Eye Samurai!
Maravilloso
The First Episode is basically Beat by beat what's in the Graphic Novel.
Orange juice and Cola is called a 'Muddy Water'. There's alcoholic and non alcoholic versions.

Even if the show followed the comics it would have been drastically different from the movie.
Especially since the later volumes of the comics were being worked on when the movie was in production.
