    Try downsizing the front hook to prevent fouling.

    Salt Strong, you are awesome! I love how your are crtitical and not embracing the industry.

    Good review, Tony. I had that same front hook grabbing issue you mention, and for remedy, I swapped the single inline for a short shank treble. Reduced the grab up front and no change in hooking fish. I also had a Twitchin’ Minnow in the bone chartreuse take in water into the body cavity some how so now it’s bone chartreuse and rust but still has some flash and the rattle still works. I’ve only had that happen on one Twitchin’ Minnow and the body isn’t cracked. I suspect saltwater entered through a screw hole.

    Great Vid. I have both lures but never really knew their differences. It was great to see them in action, I personally use the minnow more because I seem to get more bites on it(but the mullet works to) And Tony is 100% right about foul hooking your line, seems to happen about once every 10-15 cast or so (maybe just user error and the way I'm working it, not sure)

    Hi, Tony. I know this is an "ancient" video, but I just re-watched it because it's so well-done and it's still very relevant. Thank you. I'm using the larger Twitchin' Minnow on coastal striped bass and doing well with it. If you have time (doubtful) could you just quickly comment on how the Rapala X-Rap Sub-Walk fits into this picture? (I haven't tried it.) Best, Chris

    I have had the same problem with the front hook fouling on the Mullet.
    Thought it was just me. Put a short shank treble on the front.
    Good review.

    Hey bud you should also show how the best retrieves for this lures...that would be great...

      Hey Jorge,
      Retrieves can vary depending on what you are targeting and the time of year, but the standard way I retrieve either of these lures is 2 or 3 quick twitches of the rod tip, followed by a brief pause. The strike will typically come on that pause.

    • @johngreif9203
      @johngreif9203 6 років тому

      I usually get hits on pause. Hold on trout crush this bait! Just like said in video once I get a few explosions on a topwater without hook ups I quickly go to this bait.

    That foul hooking drives me nuts on the Twitchin' Mullet. I've only used it a few times and had a brief hook up with a tarpon. Other than that, no bites. I hate to give up on it but my MirroDines are so reliable. I'm interested in trying the Twitchin Minnow.

      Have you tried the subwalk yet? It has been very impressive in our testing so far...here's a link to a detailed review that we just published for more details: www.saltstrong.com/articles/rapala-x-rap-subwalk-review/

      @@Saltstrong another idea I just had on the Twitchin’ Mullet is just removing the front hook entirely and maybe replacing the rear in-line hooks with a treble, just a notion I may try.

    I have both the minnow and mullet amd I've caught more fish on the mullet then the minnow but I also mainly target reds and specks in a lagoon that's covered in sandbars and flats with alot of reeds and tall grass

    Question: what knot should I use for the minnow? Loop or straight on the eye ?

    • @CGoodwin85
      @CGoodwin85 4 роки тому

      Abdiel Rivera from my experience with lures that require “more action” to perform the way it’s intended to, I recommenced a loop knot. If you use a swivel of some kind that should suffice. Just avoid using cheap swivels. You’d risk losing this ~$15 lure if you used cheap swivels.

    Man I hate how slow sink can mean different things. I impulse bought the mullet cause the pattern is awesome and I figured it’d be great for imitating peanut bunker for fluke, but now it seems I may not be able to get it deep enough, at least in most of my spots. Should still be great for snapper blues tho.

    Talk to me Salt strongers, all right? Guys, I made a small knot on the front hook in front of the split rig leaving a spare so that it does not pass the front and attach to the bait or fluorocarbon. Try it out and see if it works for you! Here in Brazil I have used it and it works well with snooks.

    How are inline hooks better than trebel

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  6 років тому +2

      Safety for us, better for the fish if catch and release fishing, and the hookup to catch ratio seems to be better relative to treble hooks.

    How would you compare these to Mirrolures?

    • @tonyacevedo3149
      @tonyacevedo3149 6 років тому +1

      The Twitchin' Mullet is pretty much identical to a Mirrolure Mirrodine, aside from the single inline hooks that the Rapala comes with. Action is very similar, but the Mirrdine has a smaller profile than the twitchin' mullet. As far as the twitchin minnow, I would find it comparable to the 52MR by Mirrolure. The biggest difference being the sink rate, as the twitchin mullet sinks a bit slower than the 52MR which sinks at 1 foot per second. That can be pretty quick if fishing shallow.

  • @miguelgoizueta7103

    In your opinion. comparing these Rapalas vs. Mirrolure Mirrodine which one would you rather use ???

    • @tonyacevedo3149
      @tonyacevedo3149 6 років тому

      If I had to choose I would prefer the Mirrodine over the Rapala Twitchin Mullet. I've had more luck with the Mirrodine and I don't have as many issues with the hooks fouling up on the leader.
