I almost stop using lures, then I cougth a 4 pound Jack Crevalle with these one, so I change my mind. Thanks for these video, help me out to improve as fisherman.
My favorite hard bodied twitch bait of all time. I wish they'd make a stronger version of that Sure-Set treble hook though. I too often end up changing out most of the stock hooks/and split rings on plugs. I prefer a single wire (unwelded) Double hook over a treble, but good versions of a double hook are hard to find. Single hooks on hard baits are better for fish of course but cause me to miss a lot of hooksets. So a strong doublehook is a great compromise... if you can find them.
I got the 15 for musky and have downsized leaders twice and it still has no action. Gonna have to try a smaller wire leader and see how it goes, its 2 oz , you would think it would be ok.
I bought 2 of the 15 for musky fishing I also had that problem at the beginning and I ended up stop trying to use it like a glide bait and did fast short twitches and cranked the handle in quicker and started getting results with any leader
Im thinking to get a Rapala I will be looking for the best one for hunting bonito which one should I buy ? which color idk ( I really need help I hope u reply)
I have given this lure about 2.5 hours total going after large mouth bass and have yet to hook up with anything. After losing confidence, I changed to a jerk bait with success. I have a compulsion to catch a fish on every lure I own, and because this video has me thinking about it, I will break it out again this fall and see if my luck changes.
You said that it is a good idea to have extra hooks to replace the ones on the bait when that time comes, but did no mention size or exact style. What hooks do you prefer for this bait? Love these instructional videos. Thanks.
go 2-3 sizes up if you're replacing a treble with a single. so a 1/0 treble should have a 3/0 single hook minimum. you'll find that a 1/0 replacement single looks absolutely tiny on the plug that come stock with 1/0 trebles. the 1/0 treble probably still weighs more than a single 3/0 replacement, too. the shape of the hooks will affect the swimming action, particularly in current, but the main thing you want to focus on is the weight. get a scale and weigh out the new splits and hooks and see what the plugs weighs before and after. very few, if any of the major big box store plug manufacturers are putting adequate hardware on their entry level, 8-15 dollar class of plugs. get a box of 25 vmc's and it will be less than 50 cents per hook. 4x strong is more than adequate for most fishermen.
Terrific overview, Luke. Two questions, Sir. Which size is this? Secondly, how would you compare this plus and minus to a MirrOdine lure say the XL? Thanks
The specs of this lure is all explained on the core article on our website (this video was made to supplement this article): www.saltstrong.com/articles/rapala-x-rap-subwalk-review/ I have not yet tried the Mirrodine XL, but I picked one up recently to start testing it out, so I'll be sure to make a video about it after testing it out.
mirrolure's are great imo... yet the "screw in hook" system can be a nightmarish failure at times, on bigger fish. The sub-walk is like a mirrodine, but on steroids. it also casts further if you are using it to cover ground, but hits the water hard like a nearsighted hungry pelican lol.
Awesome video😀 I think this would be a nice look for the bass that have seen alot of jerkbaits. I will get one and let you know how it works out. Thanks
I bought this lure for rainbow trout to use on my medium power(fast action) jerkbait rod. You think that's enough power to drive the hooks in with the barb crushed?

One of my favorite baits by far, great video for people that have never used them!
Glad to see that you're a fan of the Rapala SubWalk!

I really like this kind of videos and these videos! 👍
Awesome movements from this fishing lure, got to buy one for my collection of baits
Enjoy it
I have this one in the larger size for in the surf here on Long Island. Striped bass love it.

Our pleasure Jorge. Thanks so much for making time to leave the nice comment.
Killer video. I’ll have to try some of these

I know they work for musky check out letsgofishindotus on UA-cam he’s caught skis with them
I have a few of the older models-Looks just like a hard plastic version of a Paul Brown Corky
Redfish LOVE that thing I threw it in the lagoon a few weeks ago and it was killer.
Glad to see that it works in the lagoon too!

What size inline hooks are on the subwalk?
What was the rod you were throwing it on?
It was this one made by TFO: www.saltstrong.com/articles/temple-fork-outfitters-gis-series-spinning-rod-review/
Does that retrieve apply to most suspending baits such as the Unfair Rip N Slash?
Awesome video😀 I think this would be a nice look for the bass that have seen alot of jerkbaits. I will get one and let you know how it works out. Thanks
I look forward to seeing how the subwalk does with bass.
My subwalk will not sink to the bottom it always rises to the top after I stop twitching and pulling. Any pointers ?
If the lure or soft plastic is getting chewed or destroyed the lure works 👍🏽👍🏽
Agreed
Nice job on the "lure"
Thanks Jerry!
I use them on hybrid striped bass.

That should work just fine.
I had a battle worn one of these. I swear the more dinged up it got the more fish it caught.
It's an old trick changing out trebles with single hooks on this type of lure. It's a good move.
rapala $ 😭
yozuri $ 😍
Using inline hooks may reduce hookup rates 50% or more.
Nope!
Why are the hooks pointing opposite sides?
I bought one of these, I find it more difficult to walk the dog then my glide Muskie lure
Thanks for the feedback!
This lure sink¿¿¿¿¿???
Looks like a catch jr
