Extraordinary Steam Driving; Restarting Triple Header Steam Train on a 1 in 50 grade

- On the 24th September 2022 Steamrail were operating a rare triple header steam train to Traralgon as part of their celebration for 100 years of the K Class steam locomotive with locomotives K153 (still masquerading as fleet leader K100), K183 & K190. Along with a couple of others I set up at the scenic Haunted Hills in Newborough expecting to see the train fly through at speed.
However the lead locomotive K100 suffered a major mechanical issue bringing the train to an emergency stop. After the train crews made some trackside repairs we see some rather extraordinary scenes as the train crews manage to restart the train in rather challenging conditions; with the train having stopped on a 1 in 50 grade in some drizzly weather. K183 & K190 worked hard to pick up the slack, producing a spectacle of steam and sound as the train climbed up the bank.
I'll upload my full video of the trip in the next couple of days.

you see that person in the last carriage waving behind two closed windows? thats me! tbh i had no idea i was waving at thebusofdoomFSX lmfao. it was interesting sitting in our compartment trying to listen to the conductors' radios to figure out what was going on lol
That was such an chaotic day for me since it was the first Steamrail train I had ever volunteered on
Good video! It’s really good to see how hard the workers worked to get the train moving again in 30 minuets. At 0.30 i did see the rod fall of K100
Nice video mate. I saw it arrive and depart Pakenham on the down. I would of seen it at Cardinia Road on the return but as I was waiting for it I decided to call it quits because of how delayed it was. But still a good tour none the less.
Awesome! 😎
It's more than a little concerning that it was able to fall off to begin with.
SRV haven't done a triple header in a good while, but hopefully they'll be able to iron out the bumps for the Ballarat and Seymour tours.
@@comengsh the safety concious person in me(the bit even I hate) says a rod just falling off is a bit of a bump that needs some serious thought into why it happened and how to best prevent it again.
Design or maintainance deficiency being likely culprits but boy thats a big no no to have bits just falling off
