16:25 hearing this song as 14 year old for the first time while running around that island.. damn man. Take me back, take me back to a time before the money, the bullshit, the rush, the deadlines, the work, the expectations. Back to a time when my grandparents were still alive, back to when everything was just a-okay.
This music brings back so many memories. Thank you for this.

I personally dream of even having time to play on weekends with her. We're both studying. I'm studying while also working a full time job as an intern. I don't even have time to see her, let alone play with her. But I'd be happy with all the work, the effort, the rush and the stress if I could spend time with her regularly running around the world of Warcraft.

I had this with Northshire Valley. I finished all the quests there and then figured since it's an RPG I'd grind on the mobs for gear and xp until I "felt strong enough" to move to the next zone. Until suddenly out of nowhere a Night Elf appeared and asked me why I'm killing mobs there at my level. He quickly showed me the way out and brought me to Goldshire. Where he then told me about the faraway land of Darnassus..

I'd seen Ironforge in videos, so at level 9 I set off from Teldrassil and ran all the way there. Took the boat to Wetlands and RAN lol. Sometimes people stopped, asked what I was doing and would help me by killing mobs in my way.
I levelled from 9-15 just by "discovering zones" on the way lol. Finally found Ironforge! Then I explored / quested Dun Morogh and Loch Mod as an early game night elf.

The memories... The old friends that I've lost to the time... My lovely alligator pet that every guide was labeling as a bad pet choice.... I miss it all... But Not even WoW Classic have a power to return those times even if the game is back.

When I first started playing in Vanilla I first rolled a human warlock to run around with friends who were humans, dwarves, and one gnome. But my computer at the time was really crappy and I lagged like mad as soon as I got to Goldshire. I had to stop playing the warlock and decided to retry a night elf warrior since the elven lands were much less populated and therefore, much less laggy. The aesthetics and music of Teldrassil compared to the human lands was just breathtaking, and I never turned back. I rarely grouped with those friends until we hit max level but it was worth it just to adventure through those lands. I quit playing barely into BfA and have no intention of going back, but those early times were just magical. They will be missed.

Listening to these songs make me also hear all the iconic sound effects that have appeared while exploring the island as a child for the first time.
I can hear the noises of the imps in the starting area, the trampling of the big trees near dolanaar, the roars of the nightsabers, i can hear the night elf npcs talking to me when interacting with them 'ishnu-alah', the sound of opening the quest log, drawing the string of my bow as a hunter....
But most they're bringing back memories of a long time friend of mine, who was calmly explaining to me all the basic stuff of the game during my first two hours playing it. She was suffering from an illness for years and passed away in 2020 after an organ donation. I simply cannot describe how badly i would like to turn back time to experience everything again we did together back then. This musics helps me to do that in my mind's eye...

I would wake up early (or be up very late) with a blanket wrapped around my legs and a few snacks within arms reach, run around mining things, while waiting for PVP to pop off, work on achievements, professions, or create alts, and rushing to the restroom while on a flightpath or throwing something in the microwave, only to come back and read some other late-night or early morning guildies gossiping. So, I didn't start playing WoW when all my friends were (I was joining the Army at the time) and wished I had the chance to experience Vanilla back in the day. Though, I started in the early phase of Wrath of the Lich King (late 2007) and I absolutely loved it. Years later, I played on Nostralius and truly got to enjoy the vanilla experience (with no paid services whatsoever). It was fucking hard as hell, but it was a truly amazing experience that I can't put words into. This song embodies that feeling, and I still feel nostalgia and love going back to play. We're all just continually looking for the next game to bring back that emotional paradigm shift we found when WoW exploded onto the scene. The true nostalgia comes and sober realisation that it was a point in our own lives which were themselves, far less complicated and stressful than the world we live in today.
We then must ask ourselves, is it really a game we're looking for, or is it to be reimmursed into the magic and awe inspiring wonder we felt so long ago as we wandered through these now familiar scenes?
It accompanied a 'first' for many of us, the first time we heard a guildmate yell 'HORDE' and that resulting adrenaline rush as we saw a legion of real world players avatars rising up over the brow of a hill. The knowledge that we were explorers in the first ever wave of gamers entering new and shiny MMO frontiers, pushing the boundaries of graphics and in game fight dynamics.
It's not a "new" game we're on search of, it's to recapture that childlike wonder from a time when the real world hadn't all but obliterated our appreciation of magic.
Feeeenix Night Elf - Forever "For The Alliance"!
    Signing off x

This zone music elicits the strongest response from me of all the zones. Started here back in December of 2004 not fully understanding the depth of the game though I had played pretty much all of Blizzard's previous games. There was no rush to leave as I didn't even realize there was something beyond it. Even after I "left" the zone for others I was quickly back on a new Night Elf when the ex-wife started playing as well. Spent a good 4 or 5 months in this zone and it's music just became synonymous with WoW. It's like coming back home.

This is so incredibly beautiful. I remember being a middle schooler and seeing the commercials for WoW and the ads on all the flash game sites. I was so naive and yet I still downloaded the game and started my free 13 day trial during wotlk. I was enthralled with the night elves. I'd never seen a fantasy race like them before. I thought long and hard about what class to play. Didn't know anything about druids, but I knew that using nature to kill shit would be awesome.
I loaded into the game and my jaw dropped instantly. I was so bewildered by Teldrassil. Nature everywhere; players everywhere. Mohawk grenades being thrown everywhere... I believe I met my first friend in Shadowglen: Starphoenix. I was just a dumb kid and all the prostitute nelfs were taboo to me. But Starphoenix was different. She was friendly and nice. She took me on an adventure. We ended up in Stormwind and I literally just set my character to follow her because I had no clue what was going on. We spent the day playing and ended up in Darkshore, fighting overleveled mobs and running away from threshers.
After logging out, I saw her maybe once or twice after that. I focused on lvling at that point. I got to lvl 13 and then I ran out of time on my trial. I was so depressed. I wanted to play, but there was no way in hell that my mom would give me $15 a month for a game. I gave up. I never saw Starphoenix again.
Cataclysm rolled around. Still a kid, couldn't pay for WoW... MoP is revealed and I got super excited. I BEGGED my mother. I PLEADED with her. She finally caved and let my buy the expansion when it was released. I logged into the game, remade Frostgnaw, the Night Elf Balance Druid and restarted my journey in Azeroth. I quested along, remembering most of the content. And then Darkshore hit me. I was confused and didn't recognize the area. Eh, probably just updated or something. Kept questing. Started working my way south of Lor'danel. I got to "The Ruins of Auberdine". Again, my jaw dropped. I finally realized what had happened. All the memories I had from Darkshore were here. Deathwing destroyed my childhood memories.
I have yet to experience the original version of Darkshore. I am so incredibly excited for the rerelease of classic WoW. I want to see pre-cata Azeroth in all its glory. And Starphoenix, if you somehow see this, it's me, Frostgnaw. I hope to see you in Darkshore.

My first wow character was an night elf druid, world of warcraft it was my first mmorpg, I still remember that to complete a mission, I had to read everything in detail, because at that time the game didn't tell you where to kill that enemy, you had to discover it and explore it and the only clue was the text of the mission, I lost myself in teldrassil for weeks because I was still a noob, I found a side-quest with the harpies and I remember that it cost me a lot because there were so many harpies... and then when I took the mission to darkshore ... and to realize that teldrassil all this time was an immense tree ... and to fly for the first time from the roots of teldrassil to the port of Auberdine ... I felt overwhelmed, small, and excited by the adventure, at that moment I wanted to explore everything ...
    God ... I miss those times ... :'(

My first WOW character in vanilla: night elf priest. Got killed several times in the spider cave. The good old time of exploring a world. I'll miss that ;)

I started playing right after the South Park episode in 2006 and my first toon was a night elf hunter. I was 45, it was still magical as I was figuring out the game. When I wasn't working or sleeping I was playing WoW. Thanks for the memories.
