Everybody always begins with pegboard walls and then realize that it's a waste of space and end up ripping it down.
Hey, I'm a Canadian girl, I didn't even know there were screws other than Robertson, haha!
@@rmora1 I wish I had read your comment a year ago, being new to woodworking, I did exactly what you describe! Pegboard seemed simple, but what they neglect to tell you is that mdf is very susceptible to humidity, living in Eastern Canada 100% humidity is a normal day in summer. As we near the end of the first summer with pegboard walls, it's all warped and drooping depending on the weight of tools, so this winter's project will likely be a French cleat wall!
@@quietinspirationcreations3448 In a woodshop everything you hang on a wall is going to end up covered in dust so be prepared to spend a lot of time cleaning.
Thanks for all your videos. I bought about 6 of your separate plans. They are great!
Who doesn't love some shop organization in the morning?
Smells like … victory!! 😎
I'll take it any time of day!
The Norm Abram framed photo is awesome. He is the OG of all the woodworking channels.
one of my prized possessions
FTBT is my FAVORITE DIY channel!!! Keep it up Brad!
thanks!
Syncing the air gun sound with the music rhythm is a very clever attention to detail. Good job!
I like modular wall systems like this. I’m building a van into a camper, and on the kitchen galley wall I’d like to have a modular system like this so that I could rearrange shallow shelving as needed. The shelving will mostly hold pint and quart size canning jars. The van will generate plenty of vibration so I’m not sure if this vinyl PVC would be strong enough, but I sure love the concept.
Holy heck, good tip with the magnet to find the nails for studs! Will use this in a future build! Thanks (:
“A few ‘me’ nails” is the joke of the video for me 😂
😜
Great job
good little holder for the WD40, i'd have put a hole in for a pen & pencil & maybe a tape measure hanger too as you can never have access to enough of them & never find them when you need them. & love the blower holder
good tip!
Great Vids! Just the right mix of instruction without being long and your audio is great no overbearing music or power tools screaming through my speakers! Subscribed! Would like to see a vid of all your "Must Buy" or "Should have got this years ago" tools! (not just sponsored ones) 😁
thanks, we're actually thinking of those types of vids now!
Great idea
I organised my garage walls by hanging
white pegboard floor to ceiling on all walls.
It has worked out FANTASTIC!!
!
Interesting. Very clean and easy system. For the cost, I think I like my 3/4" plywood French cleat system better. It definitely didn't take that much more time. I was putting up 8' rows of French cleats, just about as fast. The real extra effort came in making all the cleats. It took about an hour with one helper, a track saw, and a table saw to make one 4x8' plywood sheet into a large stack of cleats, that gave me wall cleats, and hanger cleats enough to go floor to ceiling (8 vertical feet starting 18" off the ground), in 12 linear feet of wall. Oh, but I almost forgot, you should really convert to a 1/2" plywood wall from sheet rock. That will add some time too.
Nice part of my shop system is when I move, all my cabinets, shelves and hangers that use the French cleat system, will come off the wall and only the wall cleats will stay. Then my new shop will needs wall cleats installed and all my storage goes back on the wall with the same cabinets, shelves, and hangers. As I move for my job every 3-4 years, that's a huge time and cost saver when I move everything to a new shop so often.
How long do you think this manufacturer will keep making this PVC system, and is it compatible with other commercial systems?
Thank you for your comment, it is the voice of experience, which is wisdom. 🥀🌺🌟
... and as he already has a CnC standing around, making some fancy neat-looking purpose-build hooks/holders would be extra easy. Like the two-can-holder he fabricates here, but nicer-looking. As it's all standard sizes/thicknesses/distances, very fast to draw up.
You got it!! Roberts screws are the BEST!!!! :)
Very cool alternative to a french cleat wall! Love me some organization as well!
thanks!
Your videos are amazing enough to impress others, and you keep creating new things. Hope to see you around and be connected.
You are always organized !!
Waited for something like this for such a long time
As a Canadian I can verify Robertson is our favorite.
Great solution, Brad~!I I saw a similar track system at Sears, but since those are closing, I guess I'll be making a trip to Home Depot. Thanks for the video~!
...and to Johnny for the stand-off idea~!
Love your show, keep on posting more amazing videos.
Thank you! Will do!
Genius!! On the magnet thing. Never thought of that.
works great
You always come up with a great ideas and the results are also always satisfying🤘👍
thanks!
Thanks! My friend just emailed me last night and asked me to install this system in her garage next weekend. At first I thought UA-cam was reading my email until I saw the timestamp on your video. Thanks! This helped remind me which tools I need to take with me. I'm not going to make any custom holders for her, but I will for my own garage.
good luck!
As a side note, if you use gmail, then Google, which owns both gmail and youtube is definitely reading your email and using it to build a profile of what to show you.
Very cool. Now I have to go step up my organization game.😁👍
Go for it!
Robertson all the way!!!! If there is paint in the head you can use another screw and “drill” out the paint and put it comes!
I'm not candian but Robertson is objectively the coolest 😎😎
definitely the squarest 😀
I am Canadian and I always end up throwing out the pieces of Phillips crap that come in kits.
Awesome work, Brad! 😃
I'm going to look for those slatwalls here in Brazil!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
thanks, brother!
the straw cutout, lol. 10/10
Torx is the best!
Another great one my man… I love that you’ve fully embraced the using the “Me Nails” pun, makes me chuckle every time!! 😂🤣👍
thanks, Lou!
That's Cool!!!! Thank You!!!! 👍😎😃
Been using the magnet to find studs for a few years now. Much more dependable than my cheap stud finder
OH Canada...Yes, the Robertson all the way!!!! Great Video...
thanks for sharing the video
My pleasure
Great video Brad
Thanks 👍
Great Wall makeover. Sidekick XL fits you nicely 😉
I don't wear it all the time, but when I'm installing multiple fasteners it's perfect! Lightweight, out of the way and holds a ton. If anyone else wants a leather side pouch go check it out from Leather by Dragonfly www.leatherbydragonfly.com/shop/sidekick-xl
@@Fixthisbuildthat thanks Brad👍
I got a small two cars garage,,8 foot ceiling... Lucky the house I bought came with a shed in the backyard 😁😁. Perfect place for garden tools...
i'd give an arm for a shed
This Guys are Great , They encourage me to make more youtube videos with our remodels. 😁😁. Great job guys. Who does your editing ?
What is the benefit of doing a wall like this over doing French cleats? I don’t have either method, but was curious what made you choose this method over the cleat method that seems to be so popular with woodworkers? Thanks.
This is great if you dont have access to a table saw to make the angle cuts on the french cleats.
My garage has 2 1/2 messy walls lol
I feel that...mine was that way once as well
Looks like a great system Brad. Thanks for the demo & other suggestions. Hope that you & your family are doing well & staying safe! 👍👍😉😉
Thanks, Steve! Hope you're well also
Torx all the way!
Just found your channel, loved this video! Subbed!
You DIYd the bracket🔥🔥🔥
Challenge you to DIY the slat wall
yep, could definitely do that too!
Looks awesome and love the custom displays you made!!!
thanks, Lori!
Awesome!!
thanks!
Good work man have to try that in Trinidad👍
Go for it!
HA!!HA!! You said "Rinse and Repeat" (4:39). Good one.
Square and star. Only ones worth buying.
I never knew Brad Paisley was so good with tools !😁
"Me nails" Well played man, well played. It took me a couple seconds but I got it.
On your holder for the dust attachment, I think I'd cut a cylinder of wood 1/2" high or so that's the inside diameter of the pipe and attach it to the bottom piece of the holder. That'll prevent any lateral movement.
thought about that, but the fit is so tight it's not a big concern
“I have a messy wall here” that is more organized than anything in my apartment
Best screws: Torx and Robertson. WORST screws: Phillips & its cousin Pozidrive, and straight slot. I use Torx wherever possible, except on electrical stuff.
Robertson FTW🍁!
Looks like that will work great for general tools for gardening and such, but I can't see it working that well for woodworking tools. For that I would go with French cleats or peg board. I will have a wall that this will work well for. Thanks for the idea..
9:50 Slatwall fastener with 1” #8 screw with (2) 1/4” washers and 5/16” tubing
Great video; curious if these accept standard slat hooks or I am forced to only use the ones by Husky? Thank you in adv.
As a Canadian I must say my favourite is not Robertson. I'd like to give Torx a shot but can't readily find any. Will be trying one place soon and if I fail, I'll order from a US place to try and when the borders open up again FREELY, then I'll stock up.
Whichever screw I find first!
How do you line up pocket holes, you should do a video on that.
I've we been thinking of putting French cleats or a slat wall in my closet. Would that project look to "garage-y" dor the cloaet?
I must be really old. The magnet you used to find the studs was called a stud finder when I was a young man.
What are thes panels called please ? Awesome what you've done. 🎉😊
Nice
thx!
My garage floor moonlights as a messy wall.
Robby all day!
Squarehead are the most common type of wood screw here in NZ. Use to buy them in big buckets but now you would need a second mortgage to buy them like that .
yeah, the good ole days!
Thanks! I just did a new build and would like to organize my garage before I move in. This is a great idea. I love to be organized!
Suggestion maybe. Trace out one of those hooks that are on the back of the existing system and then use your CNC to create set hooks for your other items. If that makes sense.
Or 3D print them. But would have to be careful to not overload them.
Would these be same as the craftsman VersaTrack or similar? Or a difference?
Liked
Which is the most supportive, this, French cleats, or pegboard?
Can this be installed directly on studs, without any drywall?
The worst part about that type of storage like peg board or other variations, is that the hooks fall off really easy when removing the item it's holding. How well do those stay in place? For example, the extension cords, do the hooks stay sturdy when taking one down to use it?
the hooks snap in on top and bottom and are very firm. The don't budge at all when you're removing items
@@Fixthisbuildthat good to know! Thanks for the reply!
HAHAHA! Greetings from Canada! You read my mind on the robertsons :) L
Torx is my preference but it’s more about availability. If anyone can tell me where to buy square-drive I’d love to keep some in the shop.
Deck building made me a torx fan. phillips have way too many spin outs once i got used to torx.
Philips head '+' is the best screw on the planet Earth😎👍
except when they strip :)
@@Fixthisbuildthat Oh Yes! That's a heart break right there :(
But Love the simplicity of it.
Might have been able to 3d print some hooks. I know the gladiator system has lots of 3d print options.
These organizational and home improvement videos are good but honestly I like your regular woodworking videos a lot more. Keep up the good work!
Change is good
Hi Brad,
Would you mentor me on how to use a CNC?
Great video Brad, but I'm not going to let my wife watch it...my list is already to long. ha ha ha Seriously, I think this is a project that everyone needs in the workshop. It would save time and space. Great Idea!
thanks!
Favorite Screw type is the good old Fashioned Flat head screw.. for some reason there only one other person that seems to buy them.
hahaha, yes you must be a glutton for punishment
Do the Huskies work with standard slat wall hardware? My old landlord bought a system that didn’t, and it became a cost and availability issue.
Not sure. I've not used other varieties
How much did that whole thing cost?
Bit of a novice question but where should I look to find the type of wood you used for your cabinets? I feel like HD/Lowe’s wood selection isn’t that nice
Find a specialty lumber yard/distributor. Baltic birch plywood is great (and pricy!). You can do these projects with less costly plywood, but the results aren't as nice to look at (but out in the shop, or if you paint it?).
Here it is April 24, 2022, 8 months after this video was posted and on the Home Depot website the Husky Slatwall Panel 4 Pack "This item is not available in any stores within 100 miles of 34606", and "Out of stock online". Husky Slatwall Starter Pack is available online only in Florida. ??
9:37 Me-Nails classic. 😄
😀
That's your "messy wall"? Don't come over my place then! Thanks for the ideas, Brad!
😂😂😂
Watching this a year after it went up, I'm wondering if these are still up and if you've 3D-printed anything that mounts on the rail.
I hope your egalitarian screw community continues to thrive!
What would the cost be for what you installed had you not gotten all the freebies? That would be good to know. From the HD website it looks like maybe over $200 just for the panels themselves.
Yeah… I HATE when project videos don’t include estimated costs…especially when speciality hardware is involved like this! 🤨
Do those diy brackets come off the rack at all when you remove a tool?
not if you get a nice tight fit
Do a house tour comparison of before and after like it so he can see this
TOOOOOOOORX!
So what do you do if you dont have a cnc machine?
My garage is concrete blocks. Can this be applied to such a wall with concrete anchors?
it would be much more difficult, but doable
Nooice! 😁👍
👍👍
