Is Bret Hart correct on their being no memorable teams after The Hart Foundation? Let us know in the comments below!
Couldn’t agree more, though there have been great tag teams after. There is impression on the first of its kind like the harts.
Demolition? I mean come on
@@jonbourgoin182 I believe Bret meant after the Hart Foundation won the belts in 1990 for the last time. Demolition had their best run in 1988 and won the belts again in 89 & 90, but the Hart Foundation was the last memorable team in the WWF to win the belts from Demolition at Summerslam 1990.
Teams who are memorable, but that success was really remembered for their WCW days are the Steiner Brothers and Road Warriors/Legion of Doom.
The only team that I think is memorable that came after the Hart Foundation and won the tag titles was The New Age Outlaws.
It was definitely a golden era for tag teams. But there have been memorable teams since.
Hes right the division dipped badly after demolition and the harts broke up only coming back to prominence with the new age outlaws and dudleys 7 years later
As far as tag teams from the 80's go, I would say he's correct. I still remember Survivor Series '87-89 having the tag-team elimination match which consisted of 10 different teams; the roster during that time was stacked. Nowadays there's two sets of tag team titles and barely enough teams to compete for them.
It’s great to see someone ask Bret something about his wrestling career that isn’t the same thing like the screw job, Goldberg, Hogan or Shawn Michaels. I’ve never heard Bret tell this story before.
A man that takes pride in his work...
Hats off to Bret for crediting Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart *cackling*. He made a great point about the psychology of tag team wrestling.
The best there is, best there ever was and best there will ever be
Im sure Hawk did the same at summerslam 92 before facing money inc, he was completely off his bonce in that match
It's always annoyed me we never saw Bret & Anvil in a tag match when the Hart Foundation faction was around.
yea I don't think they ever even did a Hart Attack Clothesline for old times sake
Tag Team wrestling was more over in those days
Love love love the Bret clips 👊💜
Bret’s right about the tag team division falling off and Hawk. The WWF had some great teams but many of the teams of the 80s were breaking up and a lot of the new teams were made in WCW and Vince wasn’t going to push them to the moon. Outside the Natural Disasters, Money Inc., high energy/new foundation and the Beverly Brothers you had the head shrinkers, road warriors, Steiner brothers, and Nasty Boys. Power and glory were around a year or so but Paul Roma talked about how Vince had no plans to push them and everything power and glory was created by Roma and Herc. That Paul Orndorff told Roma that the only way power and glory was going to get over was if they made it happen.
I think Animal had talked about how the road warriors run in the wwf was very weak at best. Hawk had a lot of issues at that time and they weren’t being given a chance to feud with some of the top teams. Like everyone wanted a proper LOD vs Demolition feud but it didn’t happen because Vince wanted to phase out Demolition and Ax was going through health issues but Vince and Ax were also fighting over the IP for Demolition. Bret mentioned the match between them two and it was a one off, power and glory became a squash match, the LOD vs Rockers match was at the end of the rockers teaming up, the feuds and matches just weren’t there.
this fits perfect right now considering it was 115° today in NJ 😅😂
The two out of three falls match only went 15 minutes instead of 30 but with the heat it probably felt like being in there an hour.
after the 80's golden era of tag teams, the 90's still had some few good tag teams like the Hardy Boys, Edge and Christian, New Age Outlaws, Dudley Boyz and I think that's about it
APA.
Brothers of destruction, dx
Headbangers too cool
Brothers of Destruction??
How long were they together?
6 or 8 months?
The steiners were my favorite team. There were so many good ones though!
I just watched the Summerslam 90 match the other day. What a fun match. I loved watching shows in the old arenas...Boston Garden...Spectrum...MSG... Boston Garden was alwyss known for being hot especially celtics and bruins playoff games in May.
The Philly fans were fired up either way they were loving this match😂😂😂
Omg the Old Boston garden was oppressively hot. I remember fans passing out during Celtics games, it was awful. But goddamn do I miss the old garden! People chain smoking in the crowd, drunken brawls everywhere - the Good ol days.
Steiners were memorable, but they didnt draw in WWE like WCW.
They're an 80s team, though.
@@joshuacobb2842they didn’t break up until 1998
The difference between wrestling then and today is then, your friend could tell you he had a great match on VHS, tell you who won, what happened and it was still exciting to see it. Now it seems everything is only built around surprise face/heel turns, surprise run in's, etc...once it's spoiled, no need to watch.
The cheap folding chairs always gets me. The guy's broken in half and he gets to sit on a 1/4 inch of smelly foam for a couple hours.
Bret did look particularly sweaty after that match like he was doused with water. It absolutely makes sense now with the AC being busted during a heatwave.
That being said. It's STILL an INCREDIBLE Match. One of LOD'S BEST! I hated the outcome but loved the match
Wasn't SummerSlam 90's best 2 out of 3 match HF v. Demolition not LOD?
The blackjacks, the headbangers, Money INC, The Smoking Gunns, were also good tag teams as well.
Hart Foundation were favourites for myself. I feel they've been partially forgotten though.
I'm going to guess that he was exaggerating about the 120-degree heat. It might have felt like 120 with the humidity. I've lived in PA my whole life, and it has never been anywhere near 120 at any time.
I was 4th row for that Spectrum PPV and come to think of it, the air was ""stale"
Bret has been known to lie
Bret said the air conditioning wasn’t working in the Spectrum so it felt like a 120. He didn’t say it was 120 outside the arena.
Quebeccers were an underrated team back in 1993 & 1994.
Money inc, steiners, heavenly bodies and headshrinkers. But was very short lived
w/ Johnny Polo
how were they "under rated"....only your mind
sadly hawk was in a real REAL bad place during the wwe years. so wwe fans really didn't get the LOD of legend. anyone know what match bret's talking about between the harts and LOD?
I don't think there were dedicated tag teams after that point in the industry. You just ended up with the business putting two talents together to technically have a tag team .. but it was always temporary. Stuff like the rock with stone cold, kane with undertaker .. and I can't even think of anything else it's so random when it happens. I think the only thematic one I can think of was the hardy boyz, and they were more 90s emo spectacle as like shock therapy for viewers. It was EXTREEEEEEEME product placement.
I think the industry just focused more on individual stardom by that point, trying to fill in for the big names that were disappearing at that point. WCW was starting to make tracks .. and you saw more interesting tag team / group dynamics going on over there, so I bet vince wanted to try and distance the business away from it. Plus .. vince was hating all the money issues that was going on, and having a tag team kinda meant you were paying four people for a bit that could be filled with just paying two guys. Or for that matter, they were starting to push women more into the ring.
I hardly remember any tag team that stood out in WCW.
I would list the Power & Glory as a '90s team that stood out, but were undercut because McMahon.
put them over which Tag Team?
I wanted legion of doom vs hart foundation so bad!
Too cool decent tag team and the headbangers
LOD should never lose to the heart foundation
Bret ❤ best there is best there was best there ever will be
Goldberg was learning how to tackle during this match.
Great match!
Vince legitimately didn't like tag team wrestling and it showed. Many GREAT teams suffered because of it.
It Explains Why The Attitude Era Had Overrated Tag Teams, Edge And Christian, The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz, Too Cool And Bradshaw Of APA. And Many Today’s Overrated Tag Teams One Being The Usos. Another; Two Out Of 3 Members Of The New Day.
Steiners, legion of doom, new age outlaws, Hardy’s, edge and Christian, Dudley boys. I like bret a lot. But he acts like no one else was good but him lol
Harlem Heat, Outsiders, Nasty Boys etc.
3 out of the 5 teams you mentioned were not even in wrestling during the era bret is talking about. steiners were in wcw. LOD had only been with the company about a month.
now if we look at the tag teams who were with bret during his tag team run (Rockers, Demolition, Killer Bees, Rougeaus, Strike Force, bulldogs, brain busters) maybe we can argue bret's point. but we need to compare his tag team to tag teams he actually worked with or were with the company at the same time
Endless Brett Hart Crying.....I swear I think he wore pampers under his tights
Steiners were pretty damn good.
The best
Surprised, Brett didn't mention "The Infamous kick to the head" Goldberg! 😉
*bret. Edgey boy
Davey, Anvil and Hawk spent the long hot summer of 92 smoking crack and resting up. And Doink beat Bret on a house show. Candido shot on Horowitz when Barry used Chris’s finisher without calling it. Barry Windham. Six foot six. Two hundred and seventy five pounds. Yes sir. Sweetwater. Texas. Yes indeed. Shawn didn’t take to Foley at first. Mick overheard a HBK rant about him and ran out of the building. Perry Saturn got hot and shot on a jobber. Vince got hot about it and gave him the moppy gimmick. Shane O Mac heard about it and got hot with Vince, since he and Perry were friends.
Deep
Hardys !
Jim Neidhart was a better runner than Shawn or Marty LOL.
What's funny? Jim was a legit athlete, not a little wanna be gymnast with crossed eyes. 😂😂
@@That90sShow Not in the late 80's and 90's he was an overweight drug addict.
What about the Steiners? The Outsiders? Beer Money Inc? DX? The Usos? Brorhers of Destruction? There were a lot of great teams. But nothing is worth than putting some random single wrestlers together who don't even dress similarly.
I took Bret's statement to be about the strength of the tag team division, which only really works when there are lots of good teams. For WWF, the mid to late 80s was perhaps the strongest tag team division they've ever had. The Steiner Brothers were amazing but didn't have good competition to fill out the division (in WWF). This is a WWF centered statement so WCW and TNA teams aren't relevant. Usos are not very good, and their gimmick is a rip off of a rip off of a rip off.
Bret lost all credibility when he said 3:32 Jim Neidhart was faster than Marty and Shawn.
@doctor_sixty he's talking about the immediate period in WWE after he and Neidhart split up. He's right too. Until the New Age Outlaws, Hardys, Edge and Christian and Dudleyz came along there was only the Steiners that stand out as champions. I mean cmon Smoking Gunns, Bodydonnas, Money Inc? Godwinns? Not exactly legendary teams
@@fmthebaron he said Jim could run faster. Maybe he could have back then. Not sure. Of course Marty and Shawn were more agile.
@@Myrridan19 Jim was nowhere near as fast as Marty or Shawn at any point of his career. That's just an absurd remark.
No good teams after 1990s? 😂. Dudley Boys, Hardy Boys, DX 2006 , Edge and Christian. I like Breat but he says some shit that shows his bitter age 😂
He's clearly talking about his era. He's not bitter, you're just not very intelligent. I'm sure that he doesn't care if you like him or not.
@@CatsClaw44 " I can't think of any good teams past the 90s" His words. You clearly can't listen 😂
@gaminglikeaproallthetime4563 I 💯 took that as the IMMEDIATE period after he and Neidhart split up which in that case he'd be right. It was a good 5-6 yrs of poor tag team division. Until the New Age Outlaws, Hardys, Edge and Christian and Dudleyz came along there was only the Steiners that stand out as champions. I mean cmon Smoking Gunns, Bodydonnas, Money Inc? Godwinns? Not exactly legendary teams
@@soulofanerd9364 true.
DX 2006 were cringe and lame.
I dunno. Money Inc., the Natural Disasters, The Hardyz, the Dudleys, Edge & Christian, Los Guerreros, Beer Money, Motor City Machine Guns, Young Bucks, Lucha Brothers, Cody & Goldust, The Hollywood Blondes, The Brothers of Destruction, DX (tag version), The Rock & Sock Connection, Owen & Jarrett, JeriShow, The New Age Outlaws, and American Alpha are all as good or equal to the Hart Foundation IMO.
Where's the part where he talks about Goldberg kicking him in the head and ruining his career? I came to this video wanting to hear that for the 1004th time.
that was the Start of it But Bret Wrestling for 3 more Weeks with a Concussion that getting another one before he was Healed didnt help him at all either.. Wrestling back then did worry about Concussions
3:33 Jim faster than Marty and Shawn? LMAO you mustn't lie Pinocchio!
Any time I see this guys face, it's just what is this crybaby whining about now?
I have a feeling this interview Segwayed into Goldberg somehow
Bull dogs
Bushwhackers
Bret can’t stop putting himself over
Edge and Christian
