- Wrestling Lists Presents Legion of Doom - The Career of The Road Warriors
The Road Warriors are widely considered as the greatest tag team of all time. Finding huge popularity outside of the WWF in both America and Japan, Hawk and Animal's career as The Road Warriors, and later as the Legion of Doom, is legendary in its own right. It doesn't matter if it was as popular heroes or hated villains, Animal and Hawk (and Paul Ellering) earned the reputation for being among the toughest competitors in all of professional wrestling.
In another wrestling documentary brought to you by Wrestling Lists, we look at the rise of The Road Warriors, through their work in Georgia Championship Wrestling, AWA, All Japan Pro Wrestling, NJPW, Jim Crockett Promotions and WCW, all the way to WWF / WWE. Including their work against the likes of The Nasty Boys, D-Generation X and The Midnight Express.

Just heard Animal passed away today :( May both these men who gave me so many great memories as a kid RIP.
my fav tag team
@@KP-mj7ph Same here
as soon as the music sounded, you knew an ass whipping was coming
Absolute Legends R.I.P. Animal and Hawk.👍👍
i met animal aobut a year before he died, he took a look at my giant sized self (im 7'9") and the first thing he said to me was "andre would have loved to have met you man, aint met anyone besides you who could make him look small, so he sure as hell would have loved you"
I damn near cried when I found out animal passed away. Losing hawk at 46 is ridiculous too. R.i.p. L.O.D.
Hawk finally tagged Animal in.
Rest in rush, Legion of Doom/Road Warriors.
Sad.. both taken way too soon.
AMEN...BROTHER! OH...WHAT A RUSH!
Wait, Hawk killed Animal?
@@aye_its_karate6169 Wait, the dead can kill the living?
Lovely words ❤
My favorite tag team of all-time they were awesome! R.I.P Hawk
Rip animal .
And now rip animal
Christopher Quimpo 🌹🌹🌹THE HAWK & THE ANIMAL
I met LOD around 1990 in Calcutta Ohio..They did a Signing at a Dept store called HILLS! I had to pick which 1 I wanted to meet and get a Autograph from and I wanted Animal but was so over whelmed in excitement, I said "HAWK"! So I got up to them and He signed 2 of those WWF Promos and also signed Animal as well and gave out a "Ohhhh What a RUSHHH!" VERY Loud I will add! I wont ever forget these memories and now Im glad I picked Hawk instead since his Signature is way rarer! Still have BOTH Promos to this day! Awesome guys to meet!
Very nice! I met them in 1986. They were doing a signing at a K-Mart in Roswell, GA with Paul Ellering and Joe Pedicino. I got Everybody's autograph except for Pedicino. I also got polaroids of me with Hawk and Animal. One great childhood memory. I was 14 at the time.
Hawk was my favorite
That’s awesome!!😁👍
Back in the 80s going to grandma's on a Saturday evening eating ice cream & watching NWA wrestling Road Warriors were the best of all time. Never will be like that again. Good old days.
They dominated wresting 2 decades wresing in almost every.msjor wrestling oganizayions they.were based out of the mad maxx franchise
Often imitated but never duplicated, baby-face or heel, the Road Warriors are the greatest tag team of all time💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍👍
Harlem Heat
@giftofgab247 Yep they held the "Tag Team" belts numerous times
No doubt. I was a little kid in the 80's and the Road Warriors were the baddest motherfuckers of all. When they used to run into the ring and pound people before the bell rang, my head would almost explode.
@giftofgab247to me with wrestling being fixed tagteam takes team effort. there were ultimaniacs hulkhogan and ultimatewarrior. but lod just always stood together. considering team work I would say legend of doom, steinerbrothers then hartfoundation. because scott steiner went on his own, brett hart went on his own. I wish wwe took tagteam more serious these days they seem to focus more on divas.
@giftofgab247 no one was more dominant than the Road Warriors. NO ONE.
My all time favorite Wrestling Tag Team of all time The Road Warriors RIP Guys you will definitely be missed The Brothers in Paint
Animal has died at the age of 60 on September 22, 2020 at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri.
The WWE released the following statement regarding his passing:
“WWE is saddened to learn that Joe Laurinaitis, known to WWE fans as Road Warrior Animal, has passed away at the age of 60. One of the most intense Superstars to ever step into the squared circle, the 6-foot-2, 300-pound Animal spent the majority of his career alongside his tag team partner, Hawk. Together, they formed what was arguably the most successful, popular and feared tandem of all time - The Road Warriors. With their intimidating face paint, outfits covered in metal spikes and impressive array of power moves, the duo captured titles and destroyed opponents wherever they roamed. Their dominance made them so popular that the phrase “Road Warrior pop” has been used in locker rooms to describe particularly deafening reactions from the crowd ever since. The Road Warriors thrived in multiple stints with WWE, where they were known as The Legion of Doom. The team won the World Tag Team Titles on two occasions and were eventually enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame. WWE extends its condolences to Laurinaitis’ family, friends and fans.”
That was my birthday last year.
God bless hawk & animal
I've watched wrestling since I was a kid back in the 80's and there was no team like LOD. Total smashmouth in your face style. Thank you to Joe Lauranitis and Michael Hegstrand (Animal and Hawk respectively) for the memories you gave us over the years. And shout out to Wrestling Bios for this awesome piece.
These guys were the peak of what wrestling will ever get to. It was awesome when you heard "Whaaaat a Ruuuush" and seeing these two Iconic legends come out menacing. Can't be duplicated. The best.
The Road Warriors will always be my all time fav tag team. I enjoyed when they were with NWA, AWA, and WCW. WWF ruined their persona as a team.
wwf-e do that, ruin some great acts
I agree, I loved their NWA career, hated what WWF did to their image.
Your exactly right ! Hawk and Animal will always Be the GOAT of Tag Teams. Sadly I dont think there will ever Be another even close to them.
My favorite time in wrestling, the Road Warriors versus the Koloffs, then later the Road Warriors, Nikita Koloff and Dusty Rhodes versus the 4 Horsemen.....great stuff, so glad that we can relive those days through UA-cam!!!
Yes the Road Warriors the greatest tag team.
Lee, THOSE WERE the good old days! That's really what I dislike about wrestling today. At least then, they knew how to promote an ideal. Men were MEN!!! Honor, Loyalty, dedication to one's career NOT going off to do movies and stuff. Sacrificing their bodies solely for OUR entertainment. I still say the NWA had the greatest fueds in wrestling history. The Garvins and the Freebirds, Midnight Express and Rock-n-Roll Express, Magnum TA and Tully Blanchard, Butch Reed and JYD..... Yeah, you're right Lee, THANK GOOD FOR UA-cam!!!
I first seen these guys in action on tv waaay back in 1984, and I was blown away and terrified!!! I totally collected their posters and action figures.. There will never again be a tag team like this EVER again!!!!
Greatest and most dominant tag team ever, bar none. One thing not mentioned is the fact that Hawk had a broken ankle when they had the scaffold match at Starrcade '86. Both Road Warriors were simply too tough for words.
LOVE THE ROAD WARRIORS!!! BEST TAG TEAM EVER IN PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING!!!
R.I.P. MIKE AND JOE!!!
One of the top tag teams of all time because length of their career, how long and how many organizations they participated in, popularity, style, wrestling ability, their promo spots, how many and how often they possessed the tag team belts, and notoriety of their team name as well as individually. Very few teams fit in all the categories I mentioned.
The Roadwarriors
Hawk 6'3" 277 pounds
Animal 6'1" 300 pounds
G.O.A.T. Enough said!
I'm straight addicted at this point bro..u got the 90s nostalgic feel bro..
Thanks, Vince Russo
@@merces47letifer4 and you just lost me..damn.
@@merces47letifer4 yea..that was two "bros" to many...
I remember them coming to the ring to Black Sabbath's "Iron Man"
They got me into Black Sabbath. Them and my uncle, when I was a kid he smashed my toy guitar after playing a solo to the song. Iwas so pissed! God I miss him. Greatest tag team 😎
I remember that intro was well! I'm 48 and loved watching this guys wrestle. I do remember an earlier intro I think it was the theme song from the movie the Warriors?
Badass
6:22 Became the only team in history to accomplish a feat that never got touched. Winning all Big 3 tag titles. AWA, NWA & WWF.
I loved them in the 80’s when they where in Jim Crocket promotions . I always liked the NWA/WCW better . I guess it’s from growing up some in the south . Nothing like old school TBS at the weird start times 6:05 or 6:35 . Tony Schiavone calling matches brings back memories 👍🏼. I saw Road Warriors live once. It just never felt the same when they went to the WWF.
Liiiiiiive from the omni in atlanta!!!
WWE pretty much ruined anyone who was in the NWA. Dusty in polka-dot, "King"Harley Race, Arn and Tully to a lesser extent.
George Williams I wouldnt say Arn and Tully because they did win the Tag Titles as the Brain Busters in the Heenan Family. If anything, they just wasnt there long due tue Tully failing a drug test.
I’m from the north and couldn’t agree more. Some of my fondest memories were watching NWA with my grandpa and uncle as a kid
My grandfather and me used to watch wretleling together, we love the road warriors, good memories
THE.... greatest tag team combination, PERIOD.
They were the most intimidating team that intrigued fans but as workers and being pleasant to the eyes? I like either version of the Midnight Express. I think Bobby Eaton is the most underrated wrestler of all time.
I remember those days those were the good old days great video
The Legion of Doom was the most devastating tag team in professional wrestling
Nobody:
Animal: WHAT A RUSH!!!!!!💪💪💪💪
Si...and for me together with the Steiner Brothers
THIS ua-cam.com/video/ZL8i_AnZQ18/v-deo.html is the Super Friends show Road Warrior Animal was referring to!
@@pulsarstargrave256 amazing!
@@tavaresmelton5709 That line was infamous, even sampled in several tunes and by DJ's in the early 90's rave scene.
How many people know that Sting and the Ultimate Warrior got their start as a Road warriors clone team known as the Bladerunners?
They actually started out as part of Powerteam USA before becoming the Blade Runners. Sting was called Flash and Warrior was called Justice. There were 3 other guys in the group as well. After that they wrestled as the Freedom Fighters then as the Blade Runners. prowrestling.fandom.com/wiki/Powerteam_USA
Thay had nothing to do with lod get ur facts straight

In the Bladerunners, Ultimate Warrior was called Rock
RIP Animal OH WHAT A RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSH! Thanks for being a part of giving me an awesome childhood.
The Road Warriors is how I started to listen Black Sabbath. Watching those two running to the ring with Iron man playing was AWESOME!
Awesome!!! Documentary brother....They were Great!!!!
Keep up the Great Work.
I have loved these two since childhood & want to thank you for this post! RIP dear brothers!
L.O.D, together again . R.I.P Road warrior Animal
These guys were the best . One of my favorite tag teams of all time . Them in their prime vs the Dudley boys would be a dream match
No question! The road warriors- "legion of DOOM"-were the GREATEST tag team. Ever!!!
Not one argument can be made otherwise. #1.
Another classic mate, keep em coming 👊🏻
Hard to deny, these two were the best. Tag-Team GOAT!
The Road Warriors are the GOAT!
I personally think it's a tie between them and the Rockers. They both revolutionized wrestling in their own ways
@@dancrews7769 What did the British Bulldogs, the Rock and Roll Express and the Midnight Express do? Twiddle their thumbs?
They were great, but they didn't revolutionize anything
@@dancrews7769 Huh? These teams are the reason that era is referred to as the golden age of tag team wrestling!
@@MrJon76 I'm not dismissing any of the tag teams. I just happen to think that the Rockers and Road Warriors are the 2 most influential & The Rockers are my personal favorites
Great video! I've always wanted to see a full career retrospective on the Road Warriors so thank you 🤘🏻
Road Warriors/L.O.D. were definitely number when it comes to the GOAT of TTW
followed by the British Bulldogs and Heart Foundation.
RIP Hawk and Animal.
Much love from Cleveland!

One of the greatest in ring feats of all time is Hogan sandbagging Animal because he didn't want to be gorilla pressed then Animal just muscled him up anyway, and that was a young 300lbs Hogan.
Nostalgia. This, was wrestling. These are the stars, who made me hooked to Professional Wrestling.
I loved watching these as a kid. Hearing eeeeeeeeee what a rush usually blew the ceiling off my sitting room on Saturday nights. I'd literally be bouncing off the walls watching them. The best tag team ever.
The Road Warriors were my favorite growing up as a kid when they were in the NWA, I remember that's when they walked out to Black Sabaths Iron Man.
Loved them so much!!!!
Sadly, there will never be anything like the "Road Warrior Pop" ever again.
With a LOUD and EMPHATIC. ...ROAD WARRIORS are the greatest tagteam of ALL-TIME...like Ms TINA TURNER said in her song..."simply the best, better than all the rest" #LOD
I remember going from WWF to WCW, to me it was day and night. Loved the Road Warriors, hawk was my absolute favorite.
Great job and great video! Definetly hands down the best tagteam!
I stopped watching wrestling in the mid 90s except I can't get enough of these videos
Me too
Big Bubba Rodgers was supposed to catch Cornette but looked up and seen how high up he was and hesitated and jim landed on his feet breaking both legs.... He has retold the story many times
When they were in AWA, the promotion put on a show at my high school. That's how it was sometimes back then. The LOD wrestled Crusher Blackwell and Sheik Adnan el Kassi with Bobby Heenan. The large pop they received for winning the WWF titles happened because they became the first and only team to win the NWA/WCW, WWF and AWA tag titles. At the time, the wrestling market was up for grabs and the big 3 promotions were in hot competition to take it over. Unfortunately, AWA (Vern Gagne) did not have the juice to compete with Turner and McMahon.
The Road Warriors are the BEST tag team in history. I saw one of their first matches in Wheeling, WV in ‘83, a cage match vs Buzz Sawyer and Brett Wayne. Awesome!!!!
My favorite tag team of all time they were badass
Chris Knuckles until WWE slowly but surely turned them into goofballs
I discovered the road warriors one night after work, was totally blown away watching them. To me the most awesome tag team of all time ,at the peak of wrestling, the current version of wrestling can’t compare to the 70s -80s
Loved the Road Warriors!!!! Saw them in Philly back in the late 80's against the Midnight Express, it was awesome.
Can we get haku? And this is probably my favorite so far! Absolutely phenomenal, both the team and the video
The Islanders?
heaven needed tag team champions, rest in peace animal and hawk.
Thanks for listening to my suggestion again..i know i said about half a dozen but they were mentioned in that and its good you listen to your subscribers, keep up the great content big yin.
Found it very distasteful when the WWE ran the storyline w/ Hawk and substance abuse. Still by far one of the best tag teams. RIP Hawk.
Ya that sucked using Hawk's issues. No class merits for Vince. Such a poa exploiting someone else's personal life. 😡🤬
Absolute legendary Tag Team
Summerslam Wembley was one of the greatest events I've been to
I remember working in the Whitestone Radio Shack in Flushing in the '80s and I would convince the manager Ron to put on wrestling. So on Saturday's we would watch channels 9 and 11 for repeats. The Road Warriors were on an independent wrestling division before coming to WWF ( WWE now ). The were spectacular then and some of their matches are still phenomenal. Thank you RW for the entertainment.
Love this type of content great work bro.😎👍🏾
Hey I like a lot your retrospectives but this was one of the best you’ve done 🤟
Growing up in Chicago back in those days these guys was living legends. Was 2 of my all time favorite wrestlers and I can't leave out Lex Luger R.I.P to of the best to ever do it.🙏😥
I remember when Animal, (before he got that name), was a singles competitor, and when they came on the scene, they just blew everyone away with their power!
No one knew just who could match them in that.
Big Bubba Rogers (aka Big Boss Man) was actually supposed to catch Jim Cornette in that scaffold match. Bubba refused to take off his signature dark sunglasses and this impaired his vision and he ended up missing his spot by a few feet. So Cornette thought he was going to have his landing softened for him..that's what he was thinking.
Thanks for saving me typing, I'm sick of these mud show 'documentary' clips made by people who know nothing. Trash.
We def need this one to have an update / Revamp with your new videos being so damn good from 5 years ago. I'd love to see more LOD on the channel
I'm glad you mentioned the samoan swat team and the skyscrapers. Whether it was Sid with Danny Spivey or mean mark callous aka undertaker.
Best tag team ever for me. I was in NO WAY a fan of their WWF run though. 83-86 was their best period. Just brutality.
Yep
Their time in the WWF was what really jumped them to stardom. As a kid I know that I didn't know who they were until they were the LOD. A lot of people didn't.

I love the last line of this video...."if you grew up in the 80s watching NWA..." so true. That was me. And no question Hawk and Animal are the greatest of all time.
I remember on tbs half the time match was over before music was done playing.
When the Road warriors go in the wwe hall of fame Road warriors is best tag team all time in wrestling
I remember having their action figures
The Road Warriors was the greatest tag team of all time they won the Tag Team Championships in the AWA NWA and the WWF
Well.. they were give the belts in all promotions... you can not win in scripted sport
The Road warriors also won the tag team titles for a Japanese wrestling company. The Road warrior's we're great.Hawk RIP
Ikman 280 everything in wrestling is not fake.Go to a wrestling school train for about a month. Jump off the top turnbuckle a hundred times.Slam people numerous times. Jump and land on you're Knees and back over and over again. Take potatoes to the forehead face or chest.Potatoes are real punches.Have you're have you're arms legs and neck stretched. Wrestlers if they have wrestled long enough have knee problems,, spine problems, back ,shoulder and arm problems. All of these things aren't fake.Wrestling fans don't care about scripted or fake it's the wrestling shows, wrestlers ,storylines and performances we care about. No offense to you.
Thank you Ted Dibiase for helping to bring Hawk and Animal to Christ.
Thanks for sharing this video man... LOD was awesome! Thanks to animal and RIP hawk

Still my favorite tag team of all time. I stopped watching wrestling around 1990. Just lost interested, but the LOD has always been in my heart. Funny, all of the times I went to visit my cousins in Norn Iron in the 80s, none of my cousins ever mentioned wrestling.
The visual of LOD vs. Demolition looks like the Road Warriors vs. a local pub tribute LOD act...
Leigon of Doom,Doom and Steiner Brothers were some of the best Tag Teams ever
Good on you buddy! Your merchandise is very reasonable. Most of the other UA-camrs want at least double, if not tripple what you are asking for for their merchandise!
RIP Animal, now legion of doom is reunited again in heaven
Well done very fast uploads and top notch quality .... Very impressed...... who would we like to see next ?
Bushwackers
Easily the G.O.A.T of tag teams.
The Road Warriors had three tag team belts the AWA NWA and the WWF they were the most Dominating Tag Team in Professional Wrestling
I remember in old school studio NWA with Gordon Solie, Road Warriors would run out to Ironman and have their opponents pinned before the song ended. They had this wicked move press the guy over their head and walk out and let him free fall to the mat. They were the best, definitely laid the tracks for other tag teams. All the rest after were imitators.
Another great video and this one about one of my favorite tag teams.
Thanks for the continued great vids
1:56 the movie was actually released in the USA with the title "The Road Warrior" in 1983, it wasn't called "Mad Max 2" here. That's why this awesome tag team was named "The Road Warriors" not the "Mad Max 2'ers." ;)
