The fact that the strongest combatants sensed Saturn’s presence when he arrived on the island was crazy. It wasn’t like, “someone strong has arrived”, it was genuine confusion over a mysterious entity. Also makes me wonder if Kizaru (or any of the admirals) has even seen the Gorosei in these forms.
Saturn said it's been a long time since he's gone out(or something similar) and for him that probably means at least multiple decades so likely he hasn't needed to go into combat and transform since before kizaru even joined the marines let alone rise the ranks and earn authority to be allowed near the gorosei
Considering that they said anyone below Rear Admiral is not allowed to look, it is implied at least people of a certain rank know of this power.
Or maybe they have the required haki to withstand this power. This seems like an aggressive version of coc. Like how Shanks was physically damaging whitebeard's ship..@@TheFGSDude
The way they say entity only shows that this is not just some devil fruit, haki or any type of ability...it's something far more different, like this probably is a devil fruit user or maybe it's an actual devil that is unlike any zoan, paramecia or logia
@@TheFGSDude I think it was more only people above a certain rank were ALLOWED to look at Saturn's demonic form. It is definitely something the world government wants to keep on the down-low, so only having higher ranking officials in the marines know about it would help them keep it secret. I'm pretty sure no one outside of the 5 Elder Planets (+ sabo & wapol) knew about their forms.
Yes, the Jailer Beasts were overcome by their Fruits so their awakenings remained incomplete. That could mean Chopper’s true awakening is still in store.
What's cool with Chopper's is, his Monster Point is obviously his incomplete awakening hence why pre-timeskip he had no control but post-timeskip he has total control. So imagine what kind of control he'd have with his true awakening

@@bojrichel4474 Lucci's awakening doesn't make him a full leopard, right? It makes him a superpowered leopard-human hybrid wreathed in flames. Chopper's would probably do something similar, turning him into a human/reindeer hybrid with dramatically enhanced strength and speed.
However, Chopper's devil fruit ALSO made him way smarter, right? I mean, he's seventeen and practicing medicine. It's possible his awakening would drive his intelligence even higher, which could be interesting.

An awakened zoan type can still transform between hybrid & beast forms. We saw it with Yamato. “THEY” (I’m not getting cancelled today) had the flame scarf associated w/ the awakened form when THEY were both a full wolf & a hybrid wolf/human.
When it comes to Chopper, I believe the rumble balls gave him multiple forms using either his hybrid or “human” form as a ‘base’ that he can now switch to, at will, due to training.
Franky and Sanji being the first straw hats to see Saturn is so appropriate, both being ya know… all science’d up. This is a really awesome and under utilized pairing. Having those two defending Vegapunk will be awesome, even if it doesn’t exactly go their way.
They are also the more logical ones to witness him and see the importance of it.
Luffy zoro would just go meh old dude and probably get deaded

@@SirPinguuy ya her trauma is why she isn't there it's more fitting for her to hear about it from Franky and sanji or she might regress a little back towards enis lobby Robin. She knows they can keep her safe from navy and admirals and a buster call but seeing the potential power of world government and its leaders might be a little much for her.

That buildup before the circle appeared was so well done. Everyone with observation haki senses him coming and immediately knows something is wrong. That look on Lucci’s face… guy was terrified.
Jinbei’s line there was also odd to me, noting that Saturn had a “strange presence”. Not strictly powerful or intense, but strange, as if it is something he doesn’t recognize. Something he’s never sensed before. If Saturn really is a demon, then that strange presence would make sense.
Funny thing, when one of the fishmen princes (i forgot his name) was in Mary Geoise, he sensed a strange presence coming from the underground and decided to not use the travelator. This refers to the slaves working in the underground of Maey Geoise. So maybe fishmen and merman can sense the strange presence of the Tenryuubito and the bad things they do, slavery included.
I think he has a mythical zoan x model demon if we have buddha and sun god fruits so existing demons from our reality or demons made up by oda from the one piece reality can have fruits too. Saturn as the cloud scarf like other awakened zoan. He can probably use magic and cast spell, I think we didn't see the Fruit box because it's a spell from Saturn summoning an image of him and Oda only reveal devil fruits name when the physical body of the individual is in the panel not an image of him. Oda is doing some deep stuff here no doubt.
@@Fairbranksthecat Oda also sometimes doesn't show the fruit name for a while too, like with Kaido. We'd seen him transform multiple times before we ever got the name of his fruit. Could be the same thing going on with Saturn, keeping the mystery going until Oda feels it's time to reveal it. Because there's two routes Saturn's fruit could take. Both being Mythical Ushi-Oni models, but one being a Kumo Kumo no Mi and the other an Ushi Ushi no Mi

The way I understood was Saturn noticed the soldier saw him and killed him for it, not that looking at him inherently kills you
EXACTLY. There were tons of other people looking directly at Saturn including Vegapunk and the Strawhats and their heads didn't explode.

Potentially and incoming backstory of him being a kid and witnessing the gorosei in action, him having to blind himself because he would have died looking at it as a kid while everyone he loved died around him

@edntz wha? Did you even READ the chapter? It is declared "Any officer below the rank of Commodore avert their eyes immediately and don't look. Failure to follow orders- blah blah" in the pages leading up to Saturn's appearance. It is THERE. How can you sit there snottily and asks "where?" The marine who survived is probably at least a commodore or he actually averted his eyes, he didn't look directly at Saturn.
From this point on we can just boldly assume that each of the Gorosei + Imu owns a devil fruit that actually lives up to the name 'Devil fruit'

Saturns entrance was so disturbing. He didn’t just leap out of the boat on island he crawled out of a black pentagram, and announced how long it’s been since he’s been to the surface. It just makes you feel like he is unworldly.
This definitely added another layer to one piece for me. I knew the elders were going to be strong no matter what, but in no way shape or form did I expect this. It creates an entirely different power level for me. Makes me think of how strong emperors are to rule certain parts of the world, but how strong all 5 of them damn elders must be to rule the entire world.
Another thing this makes me think of is Shanks. Everyone felt Saturns presence once he stepped foot on the island. Shanks being in a room with all 5 of them he must know their strength. Maybe he was just holding back the monsters of the world. Keeping some type of balance.
Yeah I can’t imagine how his intro would look on anime. The shadow government and I’ll throw out the Holy Knights as well are on a different level of power and we came a long way from seeing different power scales of the Warlords, Yonkos, and Admirals. I think the only characters able to compete against the 5 elders + Imu are Luffy (this is obviously plot armor), Dragon, JoyBoy, Roger, Xebec, and I’ll throw in Shanks and Blackbeard because those are the only two remaining Yonkos (sorry Buggy) that is able to witness a formidable character like Saturn to appear in the OP story and are probably not gonna battle, but will have a short clash before stuff hits the fan.
It’s the same with Sabo for me. All 5 of them PLUS Imu were in these forms & he was still chill, like “Well, fire fist didn’t work. Come on Cobra, let’s blow this joint.” I’m going full Usopp just in the presence of ONE!

That comment of saturn’s about not having been on the surface makes me think the form of the 5 elders we’ve seen so far are just avatars and this is the real “true” saturn form.

Im sure the artist are looking at the raws the moment they are posted and base a few sketches on that. Leaving a full 2 days before a final draft and half a day to spare before the video needs to be released.
A lot of artist that I know take about the same time for such a drawing.

The Saturn reveal was crazy, I love the idea of these crazy mythological creatures ruling the world in secrecy for 800 years. Also, even if the original Impel Down awakened Zoans are actually "awakened", they're probably failures due to their fruit taking over their mind or whatever. While Saturn, Luffy, Lucci, Kaku, and Yamato all still have their personalities with that cloud sash thing. Even if this wasn't Odas intention and he just changed the design over time to look cooler, he could easily fit it into the plot like he did with Haki.
Yamato is not awakend tho. Having clouds doenst mean awakening. When she transforms its stated that thats her hybrid form. Also kaido dragon form and luffy g4 forms have those clouds. Its just a desing choice. But yeah for now all awakening had clouds, but there are forms that have then and are not awakend.

Again, could just be entirely a visual but it wouldn't be THAT out of place for awakenings to have that design

GLR articulates these chapters extremely well.
I especially liked how he drew the parallel from when bonney stopped zoro from using swords on the celestial dragons, to now bonney using a sword to stab Saturn, the ultimate contradiction out of sheer emotional rage is brilliant.
Also love the incredible artwork your artist provide for the videos. One piece is at its best and I cannot contain my excitement. Next chapter will be insane!
I think the biggest positive about the whole Egghead arc has been it's constant unpredictability. From one week to the next, it's been almost impossible to say what's going to happen. And I would say it's the same thing again. Genuinely no idea where this is headed, although I suspect the gigantic robotic undertones set up a couple of chapters ago are going to come into play sooner rather than later. But even still, no idea what the robot is going to do and to whom.
I really hope Sanji completely realizes that there is an elder standing in front of him. If he makes the connection and realizes that these are the people directly responsible for Robin's suffering he will hopefully let his chivalry take the better of him. I don't think he can beat Saturn but maybe he can prevent him from harming Vegapunk by holding him in check.
I think it’s gonna be like Sanji vs Doflamingo. He wasn’t beat Doffy then, but he will do well enough for help to arrive. Then they will lose a Vegapunk and escape Saturn.

Saturn looking like a yokai makes me wonder if the giant shadowy entities in the Thriller Bark arc are in fact the yokai they resemble. Garcia's moment when he looks at Luffy and says "Nika..." seems to be done with an air of disappointment or sadness, like they are "siblings" and Nika is the rebellious one. I am 100% speculating out loud, but so far this arc has given us so much more clarity at the cost of more mystery. God I love this series!

I think the head exploding may be some form of advanced conquerors haki, since Saturn uses his eyes when the marines head explodes and since the marine would not have as much will as Saturn does.

Interessting question. But from the way I understand it, Bonneys powers are purely physical and only work in a vacuum. Like she can age or deage a person, but they retain their current mental age and memorries and previous actions and events aren't undone. Like when she turned Vegapunk into a kid, he still had the mind of and old man and it didn't affect the actions and events of his life.
So in Brooks case, she can only alter the physical aspects of Brooks skeleton. She probably could return the skeleton to human form, but it would still be a dead corpse, since Brook has died, f that makes sense.

@@baru6891 nah i dont think so, unless Imu is a unknown race or a mink (probably not since Imu makes sure humans are in charge), or it was their devil fruit but we werent shown any transformation till after cobra was dead and Sabo used an attack so nah I think it was an arrow of motion/force. Not an actual visible thing
I really love the "camera work" while Saturn was summoned (?) all the angles showing around the island and Vegatank gave almost like cinematic experience

I happened to be listening to the dark souls III soundtrack when I read the chapter and it made the experience all the more intimidating
This chapter threw me around with every individual panel more than most chapters have as a whole. Every scroll down was a massive twist. Definitely worth the break, and definitely the most hype chapter in a long time. This is something most movies use for their massive cliffhangers. 1095 is going to be absolutely insane. I cannot imagine how this will look in the anime. It will definitely need a new and more epic version of Difficult to make it perfect.
Oda mentioned he loved doing reveals more than most things. HE IS COOKING!!! After ~1100 chapters, it's amazing that things like this can still have such an impact.
People were hyped about Yonkos and Admirals showcasing their powers. I’m more excited about the elites (5 Elders, Imu, Holy Knights) + Roger, Joyboy, Xebec, and Dragon.
It actually makes some sense for the Gorosei to have these powerful forms that you can barely comprehend, let alone perceive.
I have a feeling that in the next chapter, Elder Saturn will easily shrug off the sword stab from Bonney and send her flying with a casual exertion of his Haki.
Or we could get kuma/bonney flashback
Next chapter! Daddy Kuma flies in like a log and repels people under the Straw Hat, Vegapunk and Daughter category, and FUCKS OFF from life by the way of Saturn.

It’s crazy how a dark turn One Piece took in the story. It went from “fun, pirate adventure!” Into Luffy is the man who has to defeat the One Piece version of the Illuminati who views themselves as gods (in this case they could be gods/demons). I’m curious if the Yonkos (both current and former members) in their primes were able to combat a 5 elder or even Imu. I also can’t wait for Dragon and the Holy Knights to showcase their abilities. There are so many people in One Piece it’s hard to power scale or at least display their full potentials.
Saturn has proven to be pretty scary, though one thing that scares me is they don't say his devil fruit name making me wonder if there's a possibility he doesn't have a devil fruit and may just be a straight up demon.
They are just the real devils without eating any fruit.

I love this chapter review because it’s noticeable how excited you are about the chapter. This chapter is one of the most impactful to me because with Saturn joining the fight it truly feels like One Piece is approaching the climax of the story, a point where every battle will change the world more than the previous arcs have.

Saturns introduction and design truly looks monstrous. The Gorosei appearing like an Elder Gods from a Lovecraft story was absolutely the right way of setting up these egimas. I wonder how Kizaru or the Akainu will react to knowing they are serving literal demons.

Note on Bonnie using her fruit powers on Saturn: Isn't there ambiguity about the elder stars being pseudo immortality levels of old or possibly even immortal. Would be interesting if she tried to age him down and noticed it took quite a bit longer than usual, or tried to age him up to death and realized his age had no limits to reach.

this was my first immediate thought for the ending too. Luffy is out for the count atm, but we also know that he successfully defends against the siege. I think Bonney is one of the only chances we'll get to defeat Saturn at the current pace. It would finally do justice to the worst generation, as well as utterly disrespecting the gorosei's first appearance. Otherwise, it would be classic one piece disappointment for bonney to miss credit where its due.

I might feel different than others, but when I saw that marine age into a skeleton and then back, that was absolutely chilling to me, not played for gags. That man looks absolutely horrified.
The way the marine reacted to Bonnies ability makes me think he didn't only age in an instant, but he lived an entire lifetime standing there decaying until he was just a skeleton, and snapped back to present time all in one instant.
With the reveal of Saturn being a Mythical Zoan user, I am excited to see his other fellow Elders of their respective Mythical Zoan powers in the Final Saga of One Piece.
Or he actually is a literal demon that has been living since thousands years ago.

The pentagram kinda implies that it is more of a DF than haki. Saturn's whole "aura" seems more akin to some kind of "magician" like threat: Sugar or the Barrier Old lady than he is a bruiser like Kaido or Kizaru.

1. Marcus Mars is an Istumade, a bird yokai that appears after natural disasters... fitting for the Warrior God of Environment. Think Quetzalcoatl.
2. Shepherd Ju Peter is a Dorotabo, a mud zombie that arises from neglected fields... good for the Warrior God of Agriculture
3. Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro is the long neck one... hmm.. this is a tough one, there is a lot of long neck yokai... my guess he is a Mikoshi-nyudo only because he is bald.. but I can't think of finance theme to match.
4. Topman Warcury is maybe a Baku... It would match the look. But Bakus are often good omen.. but they can be bad too.

this was legitimately one of the best drawn One Piece chapters as of recent. Bonney's scene when she's attacked by the pacifistas, Luffy's attack on Kizaru, and pretty much everything revolving Saturn were immaculate (yes, we've had a similar bonney scene earlier on, the mecha shark scene and the ancient robot reveal were too super cool, but we didn't have a single chapter packed with this much good art in quite some time imo)
makes me wonder if this was the first chapter he started from scratch since he's had his eye surgery, while all the other ones had at least been already "drafted" beforehand.
I just love the color scheme of Saturn! The red from the spider like feet, the black clothes and the purple clouds are just amazing. ❤🖤💜
one thing to mention is how he looked at luffy and called him nika, with these stripes on his eyes
I immediately thought that nika is the OG joyboy that went into a 1v5 vs the elders ages ago and he lost, Saturn's expression shows history

This new sense of terror Saturn's transformation gives me is very akin to an Apostle transformation from Berserk. There is this other-worldly aura and uncanniness surrounding Saturn's demon form that I only remember feeling when a member of the God Hand would appear in the story in Berserk. I wonder if Oda consciously used Miura-san's work as inspiration here.

Something to mention is that one of the marines in this chapter after being hit with Bonnies NDE is that he saw the River Styx or the Sanzu River, the River Styx is one of the rivers of the Greek underworld same thing with the Sanzu river. I find it interesting how death is slowly becoming a part of the story too and with a certain King of hell roaming around I wonder if we are going to see more entity like situations like the reaper on Wano.
The aawakening of the giant robot will come in handy for the strawhats to escape. I don’t think any of them could handle Saturn.
you asssume gorosei is stronger than admirals/yonkos wich is ridicilous becuz they arent you have zero proof about their powers and if we assume they are stronger than yonkos (wich they arent obviously) that would make dragon look far more powerful aswell becuz he declared war against them you would think he have the tools to wage war against them and how ridicilously strong he is then
I think Saturn is really really old, Like 800+ years old.
So him being immortal, makes Bonnie's aging power kinda useless against him.
Also he said he doesn't remember how long it's been since he's been "to the surface", meaning they haven't left the Holy Land for a VERY long time.
Well he and the others considered the devil fruit of Nika a legend "even to them", and Ivankov and Sabo discussed how only Im is imortal and alive for 800 years, not the Gorosei. So it could be one way or the other. Maybe the gorosei are not imortal, but their fruits are passed from generation to generation, thus the demons of 800 years ago are still alive but with new bodies.
I've been mostly against the idea that Luffy will actively take down the world government since it didn't seem very in character for him, but this arc might be their way of showing how big a threat those at the top really are for the entire world. Also since Luffy's power is a mythical Zoan modeled after a god, then I think the 5 elders having mythical Zoans modeled after demons would make a crazy amount of sense, especially with how desperate they were to keep Nika from returning.
My greatest surprise was the actual mention of magic. It reminds me of the original one piece one shot with magic and devil fruit as two different abilities. It's like Oda still holding on to the magic idea.

I think Bonney couldn't use her fruit on Saturn not because of his haki, but maybe it's because they (the Gorisei) are actually "perpetually youthful" so the amount of years she can manipulate in both directions just leaves him the exact same.
Or maybe if she tried to deage him. She only did let’s says 80 years when in reality she needed to do 800 to get him to be a baby.

Bonny's evolution is great as she now uses her devil fruit with bullets and weapons. Also, Luffy breaking Kizarou down enough for his cartoon gags to work on him is amazing.

I like the reasoning that Bonney feels so trapped here because she knew that her enemy, the Gorosei and Saturn in particular, are immortal or cannot be affected by age, so she has a natural power disadvantage. So in her rage and her feeling of being trapped, she desperately went to stab him with a physical blow.
Just asking, is Magic a thing in One Piece? Because in the manga I read, they called it “Magic Circle”.
Because many magical things in OP is caused by Devil Fruit but ‘magic’ is new to me.
What if Magic is the ancient word for Haki? Wano used the word Ryou instead of Haki so maybe Magic is just another word for it but was lost to time

The weirdest part of the chapter for me was Saturn simply telling the Pacifistas to "stand down"... Why not redirect them to attack again like Kizaru did? He knows he can handle this solo... Now THATS scary.
Probably more so to minimize any further damage to the island as was one of his goals mentioned previously

My thoughts & opinions of the chapter:
1. I don't expect Bonney to beat Saturn before Luffy could, but I have a feeling that either Sanji or Kuma will take her place just like what Robin did when facing Black Maria.
2. Despite what form Saturn took on, I can't help but feel that Luffy's potential fight with him will become a One Piece version of Gilgamesh & Enkidu's fight! And just to be clear, I am not referring the ones from Fate Grand Order, but rather the Ancient Babylonian figures they were based on.
3. When Sanji learned that Bonney was Kuma's daughter, I do wonder what his reaction was.

the part with bonney. the fan translation calls it NDE ( Near Death Experience) what if its the life flashing in your vision and you just see yourself as that skeleton. and that trauma or shock of that "experience" defeats the person. thats my theory :D
