    Honestly- either make it so the glass inside can’t get dirty at all, or design it so it’s much more accessible. I’m sitting on my floor trying to figure this out and just want to cook over a fire now.

    I have a GE oven door that always looks awful because of drips, etc., inside the door. How that happens has always been a mystery. After attempting to clean it, shoving a bendable cleaning tool into the bottom openings, I came up with a brilliant solution. I now hang two dishtowels from the door handle to hide the dirty door! LOL

      Yes that is what I will have to do! We took off the door again as we now have a very large white spill on the glass, only to find that the ruler method comes nowhere near to that glass pane. We then loosened the two screws near the handle after consulting another video and tried to see if we opened it more, from the other side, if we could clean that mess. There appears to be a double pane of glass in there and we could not access the stains that way either. There seems to be zero solutions here. We cannot see how you can ever get to that particular pane of glass...covering the glass window and never using it to see into the oven seems to be the answer. We are disgusted at this way of putting a door together. The oven was very expensive and is only six years old. The similar model it replaced (which was far better) we were able to remove the door and clean the glass with no problems.

      Dear Judy: We put a man on the moon nearly fifty years ago, but since then, NOTHING...I'd say modern kitchen conveniences also reached their peak around that time. I can't get over all these happy, sappy consumers (what kind of horse tranquilizers are they on?) who are actually fawningly THANKFUL to the appliance manufacturers for their ridiculous solutions on how to clean one of their defective, poorly designed products: "Call in one of our authorized SERVICE TECHs" (and scrub away at the glass panels while he waits patiently around for an hour in the kitchen). Then there's always Option 2, suggested by one of the happy, sappy consumers who obviously has no dudgeon, high or low: "Hang some pretty tea towels" on the door handle to hide the greasy eyesore. Meanwhile, here comes another holiday season, with the splattering turkeys, the basting, the sugar-cured hams, the bubbling-over pies, sweet potatoes and everything else that needs to be cooked in the oven. I give up. When the aliens come, I'm going back with them. If they can skim cross 200 light years in 3 days, then they've got to have better stoves than we do.

    75° angle? That's a 15° angle. Hire people that finished high-school. Also, design a door that doesn't need cleaning inside a glass sandwich. Huge oversight.

    • @steffisradcore
      @steffisradcore 4 роки тому +16

      its technically a -15 degree angle as with the door up its 90 and since it hinges towards you it is in fact a 75 degree angle to the floor

    • @billbradford9227

      The interior angle labeled in the video, formed by vertical plane and the door, is indeed 15 degrees. Thr complementary angle formed by the floor and the door is 75 degrees, but that is not the relevant angle in the operation illustrated by the video.

  • @Stealth0031
    @Stealth0031 4 роки тому +20

    Good vid...However, a couple tips. 1) My GE oven had the exact same door locks, but they each had a screw above them that had to be removed first to unlock the locks. (Note the GE oven's manual didn't even mention the screw locks). And 2) There wasn't really enough room to effectively clean to the glass using a yard stick and thin towel. It works, but we lost the towel trying to take it out. Plus, and this is important, there are 2 layers of glass and the video solution didn't help with reaching the other piece of glass (which in our case had the bad cooking stain on it). With the GE model we have (JT3000 30"), 4 screws at the very bottom of the oven door had to be removed, and 2 others near the bottom area to take off the door cover so that the glass could be reached and fully cleaned. All this said, the video certainly helped and there are a lot of oven models, so it likely works great on other ovens. Thanks

I have been living with the streaks inside the glass for over 11 months and it has been driving me crazy! I have watched many videos on UA-cam that show taking the door apart and cleaning it that way, but I don't have the special screwdriver for the screw heads on my GE range. Wow! I read the manual carefully and then watched this video. It was hard to get the door off, and then really really hard to get it back on as the manual did not have the picture of what our hinges looked like. I thought we were going to have to have a service call to put the door back on. The yardstick only cleans one side of the glass, we had to turn the door over and try to clean the other. The rag slipped off and the yardstick, unknown to me, was scratching the glass all over. And now it is cloudy and scratched. I am fed up with GE appliances. I
    had the prior model to this GE slide in stove and I really liked it, this newer one is so much worse in so many ways. The prior one the door was easy to remove, they had instructions how to open the oven door and directly clean the glass and it looked like new when we put it back., this one, no way. I was loyal to GE in the past, now I am very disappointed in GE. Why can an oven not be designed so mystery food does not get in the door. My glass inside was filthy after even a few months and I have no idea how it got in there.

    Thanks to all of you that have posted all the very helpful UA-cam videos on how to clean oven glass.
    Okay, I just finished cleaning my oven door glass. The easy part is taking the oven door off, apart, and then reinstalling. The hard part is cleaning the glass.
    First, I would recommend taking plenty of photos before you take anything apart. Next I would recommend taking more photos as you are slowly taking things apart. If you have enough room, lay out the parts in the order you took them out while taking photos of everything. You can’t have to many photos.
    To clean the glass I tried a number of products mentioned in all the UA-cam videos I watched before I began my task. What worked best for me was a combination of the following depending on how much build up there was.
    A razor blade,
    You must be careful not to scratch the glass. I felt comfortable using a blade as I use it often when cleaning car windshields for myself and others. If you don’t know what you’re doing or not experienced using a razor blade, do not use it.
    Bar Keepers Friend (cleanser) with a Teflon safe sponge,
    Need to use a little “elbow grease with this but it does work
    Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser,
    Works about the same as cleanser and sponge but not as rough.
    Griot’s Glass Polish and a glass polishing pad,
    I use this as the finishing touch and applied it with my Porter Cable 7424XP set to number four. It’s the same process I use on auto windshields and it actually takes off a layer of glass on a molecular level. Makes the glass as smooth as a babies a$$.
    For those that don’t have the tools and products for the last step, just rinse the glass clean with mild soap and water after you’ve cleaned the glass to your satisfaction. Wipe it dry, reinstall the glass, reassemble the door, and reinstall the oven door to the oven. Don’t forget to take the pins out if applicable and reinstall the door stop clips.
    Job done!

    Once this door is removed if you remove the screws at the top of the door (2 of them) and bottom of the door (3 of them) then the door will separate in 2 making it easier to clean inside the glass. And it will be easier to get rid of smears this way. No need for a "yardstick".

    I have an older model JB507 H2WW basic GE stove. I do not know how old it is because the stove was here when I moved in.This stove, has a different hinge on the oven door. You just open the door at an angle and slide the door up and off. Very easy. Thanks to this video I now know how to clean the inside of the double pane oven door. I never knew that the glass could be cleaned from the inside until I read an article about cleaning ovens with baking soda which I do anyway. The article suggested reading the manufactors instructions on how to clean inside the glass door. Googled on how to do this and this video came up on UA-cam. I wipe my pans, surface under pans, racks, oven and oven glass door down with a paste of baking soda which makes clean up very easy. The inside of the glass would have stains that I did not know how to clean. Thanks to that article and this video I now know how to clean it. I will not use baking soda on the inside glass door because because it will take to much time to remove the baking soda film, just a mild low suds dish washing liquid that would be easy to wipe away. The baking soda residue is good for making easy clean up on the rest of the stove. Thanks for video GE

      @@geappliances i'm getting rid of my last range because the door is so stained, bottom element went out, and the convection fan stopped. I watched the video to prevent inside of door from looking filthy; it is to clean it before you use it. Like the stove top. Clean it before you use it. Not sure my back is ready for that. My new range coming has a steam cleaning for smaller messes in oven... so maybe that will keep it clean. I'm getting a very similar model because I caused the enclosed bottom element to go out by covering it, and I think with some change of thinking, I might be happy with this one. I'm going to give my old one away but if I were keeping it, i would take it apart rather than use a yardstick, which i agree with someone else, I haven't seen one of those in a long time. How would a serviceman handle it if they came to my house?

      I'm a 65 year old woman 5 feet tall and I can get this oven door off by myself. I can even get it back _on_ by myself about half the time! Getting it seated to go back on is actually the harder job, believe it or not. I take mine off several times a year to clean the oven manually as the self-cleaning feature is bad for breathing, especially if you have pets. The door really isn't horribly heavy, just awkward, and a little hard to reseat until you get the angle down, but with practice one person _can_ do it. Now, the question of why it should _have_ to be done to clean the inside of the glass is another issue altogether. With proper sealing you'd think these panes could stay clean inside. Back to the drawing board go R&D, and out to the kitchen go I with yardstick: This stove simply came with the house I bought and I didn't even know until now that one _could_ clean in between those panes.

    Can we address the 75° angle? It’s marked entirely wrong. The door is only open about 15°. The referenced 75° would be to the outer plane (where the door rests when it’s wide open) to the 90° mark (fully closed). In the case in the video the door would be closed at a 75° angle and the marking for it should go from that fully open plane to the outer edge of the door not from the 90° mark to the inner edge of the door. If you’re referencing the entire 180° of opening when the door is wide open then is the door not open 105° with the remaining 75° to go? So if I’m not mistaken the door is open 15° or 105° not 75°. If I’m wrong let me know please.

      Dear Christian: why aren't you sending out resumes to these manufacturers? We, the oven cleaners of America, need someone like you to represent us to the mighty in their ivory towers who've never cleaned an oven in their life. You'd probably be hired, IMMEDIATELY, as a HEAD ENGINEER for their floundering Oven Door Division, where, I hear, they're all running frantically around looking for a dark place to insert their opposing thumbs. You don't need to tell fibs on your resume, either -- just the fact that you can distinguish between 15 and 75 degrees will have them begging you to start on Monday! It seems that not only do their present designers/engineers suck at what they do, but that the half-witted copywriters in their Instruction Manual Division can't even tell the difference between a "1" and a "7"...I don't know whether you're a policeman, a schoolteacher or a jazz saxophonist, but I'm buying my next stove from YOU if you be kind enough to design it for me.

      Agreed. It's very difficult. Took me hours. The opening for the yardstick is very narrow. Burnt spots don't come out. Inside of my glass was left cloudy and streaked, despite my using white vinegar and then buffing with a dry cloth, awkwardly. Then I couldn't get the oven door back on. It kept going on too high. Door is heavy and awkward. What a ridiculous method. Screws don't have a standard slot for screwdrivers. Here I sit with oven door on my lap. @@geappliances We have the owners manual. The hinge does not look like the picture. My husband spend maybe 25 minutes until he got it back in with the manual such as it is and and this video. My previous model very similar was much easier to clean, taking the door off and removing screws to clean the glass. I scratched the glass trying to clean it with a yardstick...it is now blotchy and looks pretty bad after all the effort. No mention of that little problem. Very unhappy.
