Once clean, we show you how to reassemble and reinstall the oven door. Total project time was less than an hour, and the results were excellent! #ovencleaning #howtocleanovenglassdoor #diycleaning #thatdadmike

    Started watching the video thinking I'd do this on the weekend... then after he disassembled the door, I just concluded that an unclean oven door gives the oven "character" and made different plans for the weekend.

    Started watching video, stopped after the oven door was removed and had 3 panes of glass--this would be an all day project and my husband would be the one removing and reinstalling the door; his schedule would not allow it. I don't have the strength or wherewithal for the project (in my mid-70s). Thought the first idea, reaching into vent holes with something resembling a yardstick w/paper towels wrapped around the end, sounded plausible. However, I envisioned removing the stick but thepaper towels remain between the glass panes. Dirty window better than framed dirty paper towels. LOL

    • @CitizenPerkins

      Haha, well, it's not for everyone. For multi-step tasks like this, I take a pic at each major step then label a small zip-lock plastic bag with that step's #. Then I put the screws, nuts & bolts, etc. for that step into the bag and note that step on my notepad/clipboard. It's a bit slow while taking things apart, but the payoff comes during assembly when I don't have to remember where things went or which screws or bolts were used along the way. And now, with today's mobile phones, a "pic" can also be a "motion photo" -- meaning it's a short video clip. (A feature on my Samsung GS9 phone.) 😁

    Ok I did on my 2020 GE profile oven (three panes of glass). It took about 45 minutes. Need a phone camera , Need a T15 TORX driver and 1/4 inch nut driver. Remove door and lay it on a rug or towel on floor or bench. Remove top two top screws from top inside of door. Just loosen enough to free them. Turn door over and remove three machine screws with nut driver at bottom. Other than that pretty much like his video. Suggest nitrile gloves to handle glass. The two inner panes are framed by a steel double channel. There is a tab on one corner that you bend up to release the frame and carefully slide out glass panels for cleaning. The glass is thin so have a towel on a flat surface to clean them. As I said , take picture along the way and Mark holes where screws go if you need to. There are four sets of screws all same length and type with each set so it’s hard to confuse things.

    Some door panels have a retaining mastic which stops the glass rattling in the metal frame. To remove the glass, apply gentle pressure in the opposite to the retainer mastic to slide the panels out.
    Don’t use metal tools on the glass or it’s direct fixtures as cracking, fracturing or breakages will result. I wouldn’t use a steel ruler near the window to clean it as it it could easily penetrate the cleaner cloth or material used to bind it.
    Those doors are awkward and dependent on the state of your oven, you may need to place a protective covering on the floor in front of it before starting to disrupt any of the fixtures/hinges.

    I need to do this to my oven. From watching the video though, I suddenly like the rustic look.
    When I remove screws from assemblies like this, I store the screws in the holes from which I removed them. Especially when it involves screws of differing sizes.
    When I work with loose glass panes, I wear gloves, in case the glass slides, I don't get cut; and, I don't leave fingerprints when I handle the clean glass.

    I’ve seen this done but I’m not brave enough to try it. You would think that, with all the technology these days that someone would invent a stove that is super easy clean. One that you didn’t have to take apart to clean. Same with windows! So frustrating!

      @@dale3404 Yes. I did too ! Thank goodness we have our phones now to do that.
      I have a funny story about taking something apart and putting it back together. I taught fourth grade for 30 years. I had to take apart an overhead projector to clean the two pieces of glass and change a bulb and remove a bunch of dust and a few bugs. I took it apart, cleaned everything and put it back together. Turned it on and it worked great. About that time my principal came in and checked on my progress. I proudly showed him the newly cleaned and working projector. And I raised a baggie from the desk and said “ I even have some left over parts!” We had a good laugh after he got over his shock. At least it worked. I don’t know what the extra parts were for to this day! 🤔🤔🤔😁😁😁

    To those looking and thinking “it’s too complicated for me” don’t give up until you check your own oven first.
    This oven demonstrated here seems to be way more complicated than my Indesit oven to clean in between the glass.
    With mine and I suspect many other makes too there’s no need to remove the door at all , let alone all the casing either
    Just drop the door down unscrew two obvious screws holding two small brackets in place that is holding the glass to the door , prise up the inside glass carefully using a butter knife or screwdriver and clean the insides of the two panes of glass ...replace and your done ....5 mins tops.
    This video although well presented is not typical of the faff you need to go through to clean the inside of the glass
    wether this channel presenter knows it or not he has one the most overly complicated ovens to clean inside the glass I’ve ever seen .
    Trust me , before you give-up-the-ghost on even looking at yours based on what is presented to you on this video go and look at yours first ...it’s blatantly obvious what 2 screws needs to be unscrewed and removed before you need to think about disassemble the entire door like this video shows

    Just passing on something I learned from a repair man. You should never line your oven or burner with tin foil. The tin foil actually causes too much heat & ruins the coils, & could potentially cause a fire.

    I really want my oven glass to be clean.... I can't even see through it right now.... but I'm scared I won't be able to reassemble the door once I take it apart! Any tips for making sure I can reassemble it? You did it so easily, and it looks great! :)

    • @ThatDadMike
      @ThatDadMike  3 роки тому +2

      I am with you! Using the yardstick method I mentioned at the beginning was going to take too much time and frankly I was not sure it would get everything - like you I really wanted it to be clean! Best advice is to take your time and take pictures of the inside as you are taking it apart to make sure you see where everything goes. Once inside, it was pretty easy to make sense of how everything goes back together. When you are taking the screws out, I placed them around the outside of the door near where I took them out. When you assemble it back together, make sure all of the holes line up. I found clorox wipes worked excellent to get the glass clean and then just follow up with glass cleaner and you will be in good shape! Good luck and let me know how it turns out!

    • @dericksmith2137
      @dericksmith2137 3 роки тому +1

      Easiest tip for anybody taking anything apart and wanting it to go back together :
      Use your phones camera, take pictures at every step.
      Another trick is to use butchers paper (Xmas paper works too, just flip it to the blank side). Draw the item, showing where each screw goes. As you remove a part place it on the full size drawing. (Your drawing doesn’t have to be very artistic, just enough for YOU to recognize the part.). I’d even number th3 parts as you take them off. 1 for the first part 2 for the second. Don’t use 1 number for parts even if they are the same, number them in the order you removed them.
      Good luck. (When my sons got into R/C cars, this is how we educated ourselves about them.)

      Guarantee it wont be that easy I've tried crazy stuff like this, that was at least a dozen screws on 3 different panels shoot it would never go back right. Just my opinion. Also with stopping the video who knows how long this really took I bet at least 3 or 4 hours. I would be thrown the glass out the back door after hour 2. Lol
