That fry cutter is actually the same style most restaurant/fry trucks use. That model was probably designed for home use and has been dulled due to lots of use/time, it's also typically put vertically on a wall so you pull it down like a lever rather than back so gravity can assist then the potatoes fall into a bucket underneath. Just a fun fact lol!

While the orange one may seem useless to us, I think it’s important to keep in mind that a large target audience for gadgets like these is the elderly and people with disabilities. There are people who may struggle to peel oranges due to weakness or limited mobility in their hands, and something like the orange ring could be a good fix to that. We had one of these at home, too, but is was more like a pen, not like a ring to put on your finger. I think it's great if you have small children and want to teach them how to peel an orange without having to hand them an actual knife. On the tip there is a shape like a triangle that points down. It's just sharp enough to peel the orange, so you're not likely to get hurt using it.

The orange peeler isn't necessarily meant to let you peel an orange more quickly, but to let you do it more easily; they're two different things.
I've always had a problem with biting my nails, and therefore find it very difficult to peel oranges completely by hand, such as if I take one to work with me. This peeler would come in very hand then, since I can't carry a knife around with me for peeling oranges.
Same applies for children who obviously shouldn't be given sharp knives as a general rule, and also maybe people who have disabilities that affect things like motor control, making the peeler a much safer and hassle-free option, even if it might take a little bit longer.
It's usually a matter of perspective when you're looking at whether something is useful or not; what seems unnecessary or like a hindrance to you may actually be incredibly helpful to someone else.

my family has an orange peeler like that, it's made to look like a snail.
i find it really helpful personally, as i struggle peeling fruit with just my fingers because of the feeling on my skin. it also makes me really happy when i can take the peel off in two pieces instead of a thousand. :))
i think this gadget is rather for people who just can't peel oranges well, rather than people who only wanna be faster.
also we have a fork like that and i always thought its a fun gadget rather than something that's supposed to be actually helpful lol
