    Today, we bring you the second episode from HODINKEE Japan, featuring Naoya Hida. Before jumping into the world of watches, Hida was active as a professional modeler creating original cast models for garage kits. In the 1990s, Hida started his career in sales and marketing for watch brands including Eterna, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, and Breguet. He was also behind the launch of F.P. Journe and Ralph Lauren Watch & Jewelry in the Japanese market.
    Virtually everyone in the Japanese watch industry knows Hida, and he finally launched his own brand to create his ideal watches. We have featured the brand’s debut piece NH Type 1B (on HODINKEE Japan) and this year’s brand new NH Type 2A. I must admit, we expected a somewhat dress-centric collection before meeting him, but his personal lineup turned out to be quite diverse. Let’s look into them.

    The Hodinkee Japan episodes are very interesting. Not as much of the same run-of-the-mill brands you see usually and that's refreshing.

    • @Ins3rtN4m3H3r3
      @Ins3rtN4m3H3r3 4 роки тому

      @@michaelbishop9157 Sure, and this may be just my experience of course. The Speedmaster name is typically associated with Omega. Hodinkee did an indepth reference of it here ua-cam.com/video/w8-DdurbLKw/v-deo.html. It's classic, mass-produced with a long lineage and many variations, made famous (and somewhat cliché) by its Apollo moon exploits. More often than not, quote-unquote collectors have one (even I) or have had one at one time. In contrast far less people know the Seiko Guigiaro even exists (ua-cam.com/video/GnStYPPhXHc/v-deo.html) let alone it being the other "Speedmaster" (I didn't before this video) or plan to have one in their collection. So, especially when compared with the Omega and personified by its shape, it's eclectic. My longwinded 2c :)

    This is so good. I was already going to comment this before he got on board with the KS at the end, and then it really made it top quality for me. Love that Seiko era and how the KS and GS used to compete back then, but we only hear about one now so the value proposition on the names of the vintage watches is so different. I'm at a completely different spot in watch collecting than him but he made my Seikomatic-P feel amazing at the end of this pleasantly Rolex free Talking Watches. Agree with lots of the sentiment on here...really refreshing to see an interesting and well considered collection - much like the episodes with David Williams, Phil Toledano, David Daniel Dae Kim, Jeff Stein, Fred Savage etc. the passion and genuine love for the craft of watch making just oozes out. It's a r nice change from the often crass parade of unobtainium (Goldberger, gets pass just for picking up a cheese knife, wiping it on his sleeve and popping the case back of a rare and valuable vintage piece - masterful insouciance).
    Maybe I'm biased as I have finally lived to see the day when three watches I own feature on one episode of Talking Watches, but, Hodinkee, please, please do more like this. It's unpredictability and thoughtful consideration make it so much more enjoyable and interesting. Your viewers will thank you.
    Leave the gauche nonsense to the undisputed heavyweight champ of watch trash, Producer Michael.

I have a King Seiko 5246 from the early 1970s and although it says "hi-beat" on the dial, it's 28,800vph, which was a higher beat rate then. The seconds hand on the KS in the video certainly doesn't look like a clean 36,000vph sweep.
