Before making any judgment on the looks, go have a look in person. I was totally stunned when I saw the car on road. This design will grow on you the moment you'll look at it. Pre facelift feel out dated if you see both of them together. One word- majestic
I agree, I have had a 1.4 SE Sport and now a facelift 1.5 SEL. For space, interior quality, performance, fuel economy, price (lease in my case) it can't be beaten. You can put a bike in the back seats down, plenty of boot space. I get 10% better fuel consumption with the new engine (55 mpg) which has cylinder deactivation. The 1.5 has 150 bhp so is quicker than most cars on the road. Steering, gear change, pedals, controls are all pleasant to use. In spite of the space it is easy to park in a multi-storey car park. It's the first time that I have leased basically the same car twice running. I like the self-dipping LED lights. You just leave them on Auto. If you want a car to do what you need rather than boost your image ( like a BMW for example) then this is the car for you.
Cracking review, Thomas. I owned an Octavia 4 x 4 estate/combi from 2005 - 2009 and still can't work out why I changed it for a BMW 520d. This new version looks even better than my old one, which was a brilliant car. I had the steering wheel alignment problem on my new Peugeot 3008 SUV and went through exactly the same thought process you did. After a week I took mine back and the engineers realigned all four wheels and then re-centred the steering wheel. Apparently, there is a lot more to realigning a car's wheels these days; and my local Peugeot dealership outsourced the work to a specialist workshop.
I picked up my new Octavia sel 1.4 tsi dsg last week. Absolutley loving it, I had a Golf before this and I didn't think the Golf could be bettered. This Octavia has exceeded all my expectations. I'm even liking the headlights now hehehe and the engine is a gem. Also got the dark interior trim as well but the light beige interior does look nice :-)
The Skoda brand in general doesn’t really excite me but I do like the bright interior. I don’t think the rear is so bad. The Passat is one of the most simple designs in the rear but that’s why it stands out.
I've got the pre-facelift Octavia with this 1.0 engine, manual. You can get it down to 5-5.5 l/100 km in city traffic with some basic eco driving, but it's still fun when you floor it. 25 000 km in, no issues whatsoever, i love it. The 4x4 has the better rear suspension from golf, but I don't miss it.
Love Thomas's review!...I have a mk3 white DSG Octavia, with the beige leather/suede interior!! Absolutely love it...Classy looking & stylist interior! Feels more expensive than it should for a Skoda! Great in-depth review btw👍
I have the 2013 Octavia in brown with cream interior, dsg gearbox in elegance trim...I love the car overall but the one thing I hate is that low frequency noise from the rear axel when the car drives over bumps...I was so glad when you mentioned that because hopefully Skoda will see this video and sort that out once and for all.
Great Review Thomas. Agree, love a light coloured interior with contrasting dash - it lifts an interior from a coal-house! Liked the inside of that car - classy. A great drive with you, with views through the windscreen. Many thanks.
I own this generation for 2 years. Nothing to complain about. I took 1.4 manual. Great car for the money. There are two disadvantages for me: 1) noise insulation (stock wheels are quite noisy + wheel arches could be insulated much better). 2) When I get out off the car my trousers are always dirty because of thresholds design). I'd like to see something like in kodiaq.
My father owns previous version and it's good car with a lot of space but it's not for 5 adults and it have low fuel consumption so far 150000 + km in less than 3 years and no big problems ( start/stop failed few times and would not work) . Only thing I don't like on new one is that split lights.. Also we had combi version and that was great car with no problems and also had around 180000 km on clock when we sold it.
Thomas this is a hatchback, not a sedan. A sedan only opens the boot leaving the glass behind on the body. A hatchback is anything that opens with the glass connected. A sedan has 4 doors while a hatch has 5 as a door opening is classed by if the glass is moving with the door.
with sedan I mean the dropping roof line in comparison to an estate. I know what u mean, but I dont find it very important to fight over definitions. Same to the discussion on "Is there a Coupé with four doors" ;-)
I bought this model not the newer one, I think the headlight arrangement is better than prior to and post. The design has aged well, it's grown on folk, the newest release looks incredibly boring. But despite that it's still a strong, reliable, economical vehicle with 150bhp and 55mpg. After 4 fiestas and 3 Mondeos I'm done with Ford and hoping for a great time now with Skoda 👍🏻
Hi Thomas could you guys include "chapters" in your description so it's possible to skip straight into a certain minute? For example "engine", "boot space", "back seats" and so on? I think it would be a great option.
First time i'm commenting. Always love your reviews, also my 4 y.o. son enjoys watching and imitates you sometimes ;) What i like the most about Autogefuhl and especially your reviews (although others are also OK) - as a big "automotive fan" and a person who loves to use every opportunity to get some test cars for test - is the attention to details and the way the details are presebted. Cars are full of those details and the details, when you summ them up, count a lot in the end and every day use.. especially if you are on the road all the time and can make a difference when choosing the right one for you (new cars are all mostly OK but its those small things that count often). As for the Octavia - I have a 2017 combi 2.0 TDI Style 4x4 in "almost thomas blue" color (racing blue as its called - as the blue is one of my "standard setting on all devices, backgrounds, things, clothes, watches..) and just love it, especially with chrome around the windows. Even though it's a 2017 it's a pre-facelift. Prior to that, i've had a 2014 1.6 tdi Combi Octavia and was happy with it till approx 166.000 km when it went to other owner, though at the end you could hear the clutch little bit when starting the car in 1st gear or giing reverse - the service said it will need changing in somentime. i havent had those problems with other cars, but i do have somehow steep hill from my garage where i kive now.. What i like with new facelift Octy - visually wider wheel setting. Looks better and probably also positivelly affects driving. Also some safety systems/features being standard even in ambition - for examp. emerg.braking. Oh and i like the new front hood as it looks more muscullar. Not that much of a fan of the front and the shiny entartainment syst., but ok could live with that ofc. I've also noticed the issue you've mentioned for the steering wheel, but i have a feeling its due to the road being "tilted" a bit. Not sure yet but i don't have a feeling like its all the time like that.. All in all its a good all-around car. There are a lot od them much better but this one can handle all tasks and its fairly good at it. That would be all from me for now, looking forward to new reviews and greetings from Slovenia.
just ordered a combi 1,0 tsi. I was really surprised how it performed after taking it for some testdrives! Because i'm more a diesel driver. But you can use 95 gasoline and in Belgium (where i live) it is cheaper then diesel. So it uses a bit more fuel, but at the fuelstation it is cheaper per liter to refuel...
After this facelift of the Octavia the overall package is still matchless in the compact-segment!! In such a mature car you don`t need much changes ;) But you have to get used to the new designed headlights
Thomas, I must state, your English has been improved very much, much less German accent to hear, and much more fluent indeed. Very informative video, as usually!
Janice Cresanova Go and drive them back to back and you will see, hear and feel differences that justify their respective prices. Whether it makes a difference to you is a different matter. I tried Octavia, Golf and A3. For me the Golf hit the sweet spot. The Skoda had more road and wind noise and a more fidgety ride because it had a solid rear axle, all reasons to rule it out for me. Others may not care / want the larger size. etc. It's this reason VWAG have gone for a multibrand / multicar strategy.
I have and it is of course very subjective - I think the increase in price (similarly spec'd Octavia vs. Golf) isn't worth the money and you do, it's just a matter of personal preference.
Janice Cresanova I felt the same regarding the Golf vs. A3. The nicer plastics and extra slickness of the A3 wasn't worth the extra cost to me, but I'd understand if someone thought it was worth paying more. At the end of the day, non of them are bad choices.
Skoda is actually owned by Volkswagen... The Octavia itself has a Volkswagen engine, and an Audi chassis (seeing as though Audi is also owned by volkswagen) and it shares interior and technology designs with Seat i.e. holding the unlock button on your keys to put the windows down.
Work horse...no emotions here...with 1.5tsi and dsg in mid trim this car it's in class of it's own...Vrs in combi looks great...well done Škoda...yes i am Czech💗
I lease a 1.0 tsi saloon with the 7 speed dsg gear box which is silky smooth the car came with the technology pack at the time my lease company had a offer the car with the technology pack cost less than the car without and came with front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, 9 inch sat nav, led rear lights, chrome pack amongst other goodies the car drives great the 1.0 ltr engine loves long journeys and definitely keeps up with traffic and I get about 45 mpg around town rising to 53 on a run usually with 3 people on board my only niggle is when the engine fires up via the stop start function u can feel a slight shake thru the car but clears within seconds it's a great car and comes with a boot big enough for multiple shopping bags this is my fourth Skoda I had a Fabia VRS, a 1.6 octavia a 1.2 ltr Yeti DSG and the car I have now Skoda are a Great brand they build Good Quality cars at a Great price Autogefuhl reviews give so much detail and steared me to get a Octavia
Another excellent review Thomas & team. Really nicely put together. I'm very tempted by the RS 245, but they are in quite short supply right now here in NSW, Australia.
great review thomas. an excellent car, fantastic value for money. my only concern is fully loaded with 5 people and their luggage the car may struggle to overtake given the engine size. aside from that it cant really be faulted for the money. i would pay the extra for the dsg / auto. 13:40 those things are called cargo blocks.
You had me 'hooked' on SEAT Leon ST, which I find more attracting, visually and driving comfort/sharpness... However, wife prefers the Octavia, and, once again, you highlight the features and options excellent. Thank you for the awesome work, your videos combined with finding the cars at the dealers and trying it oneself, makes it a lot easier and comfortable to choose. The Octavia Combi (1.5) is 10% more expensive, but seems worth it. Sadly I cannot get to test one thing... The LED headlight upgrade, if it is worth..? Its hard to find any details
I have the 150hp tsi, I think is the most equilibrated option. It has some unexpected punch and still 6,3 lts/100km average daily use. Very happy with it, covers all the bases.
@@biharibillgates the turbo lag doesnt have to do with the gearbox, but with the turbo system itself, it is impossible to remove it (well, you can use another one for lower rpms, compressors etc...but not the case here). you remove it by being at the right rpm range and with the turbo "charged". I think that is easier to achieve with a manual than with an automatic unless you use the dsg like a manual...to make a long story short, you need to be around 2500rpm with the turbo ready to kick (loading it with the accelerator) to get best aceleration with minimum lag.....but you are not gonna drive like that all the time, is exhausting. Just learn to live with it. I havent driven the 1.8, but I guess a bit more power won´t hurt. I am actually thinking about reprogramming mine to get it up to 180hp.
Cesniper Thanks for the advice bro:) There was a lag but i felt like it was just for a very short duration of around 1 sec or may be less and then it comes to life when you kickdown from 20kmph in the 2nd gear. Btw..thanks a lot again. Getting one soon!
Thanx. Listened with pleasure. I have the same feelings as far as the steering is concerned. Mine is with dcc 1.4 SLE. Perhaps it is the rear torsion beam... Donno.. really... Got it checked... test results as recommended... got used to it
Not for a very long time. Unfortunately Skoda only ever released one car to the US market a long time ago before they were bought out by Volkswagen. So they were never really a big hit in the US. Skoda essentially vowed never attempt a lineup in the US market
The SKODA OCTAVIA has a neat front grills .it is the pretty car indeed ,Thomas next time feature some tech/trance or deep house music on any car intro video's ,it will suit better : )
8:42 i'm picking up my new skoda tomorrow, however my mother has an older skoda and she used that "bin" as a place to stash her piles upon piles of keys. I personally would use it as a place to stash my phone if i had to leave it in the car for some reason.
Nice review. My only negatives for this car are the front headlights & gauges display which looks cheap. The touchscreen looks great though, very sleek. With regards to the steering when driving straight ahead, it seems that the factory alignment settings for Skodas are not the best, nor do they seem correct for what they should be. I know because I have owned Skodas, including an Octavia Mk II VRS I still have and this is a problem I also experience trying to make it steer where it should. This is something they must work on to get right in their next cars. Also it seems the stock wishbone bushes are too soft & flex too much contributing to inaccurate steering. Cheers.
Hi Tomas, Thanks for the great review. I am wondering what car should I get, skoda Octavia 2017-2018 or the new Kia Xceed. I would really like to know your opinion please in regards to comparison. Thanks a lot
Really nice and complete review. Would be interested to know if this car had sport chassis (Sportfahrwerk) or the standard one because it seems to sit a bit lower than most Octavias I have seen so far.
I prefer Honda Civic Hatchback but at stated in this review the Octavia is a purely logical car choice. I feel that Civic is almost as roomy as Octavia. Am I wrong?
We have both models in family, Superb is mainly for me and new Octavia for my wife. I agree they are both best solution in their segments. But mainly I would like to tell about my view on front lights design. Well once you are inside, it is not relevant. Also in time I kinda adopted to it. But it still looks like downgrade from previous design. I caught myself thinking when approaching to a car my fine impression at first moment was that it is a Rapid. And when time will come some day to sell it, it will cut the price to this year because of look alone.
An interesting reviewe Thomas. You didn't really mention much about the fuel economy. My gut feeling is that a low-reving large engine will almost always give better economy than a high-reving small engine. I'm not a fan of the new front-end, a big mistake in my opinion. I hope they change it sooner, rather than later! One other thing, could you please mention, could you please mention the towing limits when you talk about the engines and performance specs. As a caravaner those figures are the most important information that I would look for when comparing vehicles.
I've just had a 1.5 TSI DSG auto as a hire car in Scotland. 375 miles and when I filled the tank before handing it back, and did the sums, just over 49mpg. Highly impressive as I wasn't driving with economy in mind. It's now on my shortlist for my next car
Yes I knew, actually I totally agree to you, I would love to rate the endurance ... I have been thinking about a rating which is combining all available resources, but it is really hard to do without budget
Hi Thomas. I'm really torn between 1.0 Honda Civic 2017 and Octavia 1.4 TSI. How would you compare those 2 cars in terms of engine noise, performance and overall comfort. The cost of cars is the same
+Branimir Vidovic the octavia is much more premium in the interior, and it is more spacious. the civic more fun to drive. Reliability is said to be better with Honda. Again both perfirme
agree with the reviews. not the most exciting car and the front is a fail if it aint broke don't fix it. but a lot of good points tho. you get alot of car for your money and from a very familiar motor group probably based on a golf,jetta,leon,a3 etc its lovely to drive has a massive boots pace and big access i personally wouldn't need an estate and prefer the saloon look anyways but each to their own and they should both be equally as popular. and its great to have a go faster version of a vrs and they're very powerful and not too obvious and that's more of a car for me. but this car has alot of advantages and skoda did a great job with all generation and should stay similar. but I agree the front is a no no anyways.
Hi Thomas. I have a Volvo V40 MY16, I have many problems with it, mostly mistakes from the dealer. Is it a downgrade to look at the Octavia my 18 in your opinion? Regards Rickard.
Autogefühl, I'm looking at a race blue, same engine but I am a little bit sceptical. I don't have anything against the two headlights, it marks out the Octavia when you see one. But I think they could have done a better jobb with the led strip. Great channel! Regards Rickard Sweden.
Skoda really has a good value for money, but when it comes to service and maintainance skoda is a bit pricey. Servicing Opel for instance is cheaper. I mean cost of ownership. Just IMHO.
Love Thomas to bits but his style of clothing sometimes makes me cringe. That lower folded part of his jeans is as retro as the Octavia’s dash. The quality of the video compensated for it though.
Sorry I do not know which white paint was actually displayed in Thomas´present review. However.. All I can tell you recent about "Octavia" is : "Alcantara" seats were lately replaced by the so called "suede" material", but only available in the highest "Laurin Klement" version. Worth mentionning & noting also regarding the the Octavia: you can now (only..) also get the same optional "full digital" dashboard/counters, just as in the VWs vehicles. Present price for this optional digital dashboard is 434€ in Slovakia. (Beware! Skoda options and prices are not the same in all the UE countries... So they are indeed well worth checking again with your local Skoda dealer in your own specific country..) And Octavia is since recently also available with 2,0L petrol engine (180 hp). Power which seemed to correspond with my need (I had Golf VI GTD 170 hp with DSG before, and I was very happy with that. The reason I left VW is... price!.. Other reason : aged 62, I am getting old, and I want a more comfortable less sporty ride. I also need bigger boot than in the Golf. I know the Golf GTD exists now in Kombi version, but this model is surprisingly not commercialised yet in Slovakia..). Therefore, I personnaly just placed my order today for a new Octavia Kombi "L & K" 2,0L benzin/petrol + DSG version with full options, including the famous VW "digital dash". All in all, I considered that you cannot find presently on the market anything more competitive than the Octavia in this segment, especially where I live. Pricewise in particular, and with respect to all other aspects. Skoda service is also next door to my home which is more convenient for me than VW. As opposed to other commentators here, I really don´t mind/care about the latest front facelift aspect with 4 divided headlamps on the Octavia. To me, it´s not fantastically designed may be, but okay. Not as ugly as some mentionned here. I can certainly still live with that!.. Octavia ceratinly has other stronger arguments for itself than mere "design". I know that Skoda however decided to change the front lights disposition on their next version of Octavia, which should be commercialised in 2020. So to raise potential objections in this respect. The lights should come back "all in horizontal line" again. How boring and subjective.. Lol ! Complementary useful information : presently, Skoda indicative delivery lead time for my new car is 2 months from order date. Which I regret is only indicative and very long time for a car playing in this "popular" category, even if equipped with all options. Christ! Dealers don´t keep any stock of new cars at all anymore!.. And customers must wait!.. Completely wrong commercial policy according to me for "popular" cars.. Skoda Octavia is not a luxury expensive Mercedes "Maybach" requiring to be customized and manufactured only "on special order"!... To Thomas AutoGefuhl : I appreciate your various detailed reviews and your useful comments/advices to potential buyers too.. Good job!.. Thanks! From you present review, I learned that I should pay special attention to the wheel alignment on my new car. Isnt´it a real pity that car manufacturers don´t pay more attention to this particular point when they deliver their new cars?!... It´s just disgraceful, although it can be easily corrected on special demand, this kind of extra worry should never exist... Nota : I found that specifc issue also with new cars of other brands : VW and Peugeot.. Apart from steering wheel misalignment, It also usually means that your new front tyres wear out faster than they should!.. An other cost and worry item, you could easily do without and should certainly not expect on any new vehicle!..
As ever, great review. I'm buying a compact estate (combi?) this week. After much searching and with the deals / vehicles currently available, I have to decide between two very different cars - a diesel 184ps Golf GTD and a petrol 150ps Octavia 1.4tsi (the VW is only a little more expensive but overall running costs will be the same). My heart says GTD, my head says Octavia. Agreed, the Skoda looks bland but comes with all the options in this video with the addition of full leather (sorry Thomas!) + heated steering wheel + protection packs. It only has the 8" Bolero infortainment but I prefer the rotary controls to the 9.2" touchscreen. It's very comfortable, especially as the electric option allows the seat base to tilt. Based on this review I will probably buy the Skoda. Am I mad to choose this over a Golf GTD? Assuming the Octavia had Alcantara seats which estate would you chose and why?
thanks m8! Well both surely come very close. The Octavia has more rear legroom, the Golf is a little bit more premium in some minor aspects. The top infotainment systems are similar since the facelift, its just that you can also pick the lower spec one. I would put it down to the very offer you get and which car feels better for you on a subjective level. And of course avoid the animal skin hehe =)
Servus!
In front a big mess and back side realy obsolite. The estate version looks much better from back, but still obsolite. Front smaller lights+grill looks like someone has hit it in face and the nose become swollen. I had a plan to buy O3FL before it has been showed, but now...really think not to. Problem I have is that cann ot find nothing similar by dimensions.
I have to say that "super comfortable" is only for Europeans. As an asian the whole design is super uncomfortable. The steering wheel is too far from the seat. Brake pedal is too high. Seat is too tall. My knee even touches the cover under steering wheel when lifting the whole leg to brake.
Autogefühl Thank you for your response! My personal experience is, comparing to asian people, Most of European people have long legs, long arms, big feet, but relatively short body. They dont need to move the whole leg to brake. The distance of steering wheel is good enough. And that's why cushions and pillows of the seat are popullar in my country. 😅
Hatet it at first glance as well. But I kinda got used to it. You have to look at the inner lights as a "part" of the grill. Heard it looks better in real life ;)
I hated it too, took me a while to get used to it just from the pictures. Then I saw one about two weeks ago ant it actually kind of works. I'd say, darker colors fit it better somehow
I have been driving the 1.4 tsi since Jan 2024. I simply enjoy being in the cabin. It has all that I could ask for
Been driving the Octavia 1.8 TSI for a year now and honestly, it's the best decision I've ever made.
Before making any judgment on the looks, go have a look in person.
I was totally stunned when I saw the car on road. This design will grow on you the moment you'll look at it. Pre facelift feel out dated if you see both of them together.
One word- majestic
Love this reviewer :D He's so funny in his germanness =))
The most glowing review ever. I think the headlights might have been influenced by the previous Mercedes E Class.
+Mark StJust 🙏🙏
The Skoda brand in general doesn’t really excite me but I do like the bright interior. I don’t think the rear is so bad. The Passat is one of the most simple designs in the rear but that’s why it stands out.
I've got the pre-facelift Octavia with this 1.0 engine, manual. You can get it down to 5-5.5 l/100 km in city traffic with some basic eco driving, but it's still fun when you floor it. 25 000 km in, no issues whatsoever, i love it. The 4x4 has the better rear suspension from golf, but I don't miss it.
thanks for the feedback!
This review actually moved my attention to Skoda. I'll get my 1,5L TSI DSG in a couple weeks! ;)
Love Thomas's review!...I have a mk3 white DSG Octavia, with the beige leather/suede interior!! Absolutely love it...Classy looking & stylist interior! Feels more expensive than it should for a Skoda! Great in-depth review btw👍
thanks! All the best to you!
I have the 2013 Octavia in brown with cream interior, dsg gearbox in elegance trim...I love the car overall but the one thing I hate is that low frequency noise from the rear axel when the car drives over bumps...I was so glad when you mentioned that because hopefully Skoda will see this video and sort that out once and for all.
yeah it is frequently complained with Octavia customers. It's better now with the Facelift, and even better with the new DCC
torsion beam is causing this
Great Review Thomas. Agree, love a light coloured interior with contrasting dash - it lifts an interior from a coal-house! Liked the inside of that car - classy. A great drive with you, with views through the windscreen. Many thanks.
+gordon bennett 🙏🙏
i love ur reviews cuz u say the truth about cars
thanks pal, please recommend =)
A damn good car without pretentions.
Best value for money
I own this generation for 2 years. Nothing to complain about. I took 1.4 manual. Great car for the money. There are two disadvantages for me: 1) noise insulation (stock wheels are quite noisy + wheel arches could be insulated much better). 2) When I get out off the car my trousers are always dirty because of thresholds design). I'd like to see something like in kodiaq.
thanks for the feedback!
I have this car in combi version, "soleil" trim, 1.0 tsi engine, and it really is excellent as he says, all excellent, even good looking in real life
Wish all cars are spacious as Octavia!
Thomas this is a hatchback, not a sedan. A sedan only opens the boot leaving the glass behind on the body. A hatchback is anything that opens with the glass connected. A sedan has 4 doors while a hatch has 5 as a door opening is classed by if the glass is moving with the door.
actually its a liftback, not hachback ;)
with sedan I mean the dropping roof line in comparison to an estate.

Dont like the Oktavia since the Facelift anymore they messed it up big time, but what i do like are reviews by Thomas!!!
Thank you for always professional and well informative reviews, it's very useful :)
Dankeschön!
aaaand another great review. thank you! All Hail Thomas!!!
An excellent review by an excellent presenter!!
That would be all from me for now, looking forward to new reviews and greetings from Slovenia.
thanks so much, great to have u with us!
just ordered a combi 1,0 tsi. I was really surprised how it performed after taking it for some testdrives! Because i'm more a diesel driver. But you can use 95 gasoline and in Belgium (where i live) it is cheaper then diesel. So it uses a bit more fuel, but at the fuelstation it is cheaper per liter to refuel...
enjoy it !
Tineke Paredis how are satisfied with the engine after this period of time? Some more info about that please :) tnx
After this facelift of the Octavia the overall package is still matchless in the compact-segment!! In such a mature car you don`t need much changes ;) But you have to get used to the new designed headlights
Thomas, I must state, your English has been improved very much, much less German accent to hear, and much more fluent indeed. Very informative video, as usually!
thanks buddy!
Keine Ursache wirklich, mein Vergnugen...
Thank you Guys for the awesome reviews. I watch them all. Thomas, your the best :-)
Gr8!! Keep doing that :)
I never was here this early o_O no doubt it will be greatly informative as always so let's see about fuel performance now!
Nobody really needs more car than what Octavia provides. No wonder VW is pissed off, why would anyone choose a Golf over this
Janice Cresanova Go and drive them back to back and you will see, hear and feel differences that justify their respective prices.
That's true, all excellent cars
Skoda is actually owned by Volkswagen... The Octavia itself has a Volkswagen engine, and an Audi chassis (seeing as though Audi is also owned by volkswagen) and it shares interior and technology designs with Seat i.e. holding the unlock button on your keys to put the windows down.
Work horse...no emotions here...with 1.5tsi and dsg in mid trim this car it's in class of it's own...Vrs in combi looks great...well done Škoda...yes i am Czech💗
czech brand but completely german product
English with German accent is probably the best english in the world
Nice camera, it takes very sharp videos.
=)
Thank you very much for the report, stay with us!
Another excellent review Thomas & team. Really nicely put together. I'm very tempted by the RS 245, but they are in quite short supply right now here in NSW, Australia.
cheers !!
And the light beige interior looks "Superb"😈😂
great review thomas. an excellent car, fantastic value for money. my only concern is fully loaded with 5 people and their luggage the car may struggle to overtake given the engine size. aside from that it cant really be faulted for the money. i would pay the extra for the dsg / auto. 13:40 those things are called cargo blocks.
thanks ozz!
I like 3 cylinder engine sound. Definitely better than 4. It sounds alike 6 cylinder.
true hehe
4 cyl is just boring sound for sure.
Its hard to find any details
thanks! You wont regret either of those. It might be worth if you have night time motorway rides quite often, if not, not really.
Affordable, that's what we want.😉
I have the 150hp tsi, I think is the most equilibrated option. It has some unexpected punch and still 6,3 lts/100km average daily use. Very happy with it, covers all the bases.
Hey Cesniper Is it automatic or manual?
@@biharibillgates 6 gears manual. Still prefer to drive manual, is a very nice gearbox and the dsg still gives problems, expensive ones.
Thanks man.
I'm a bit confused between 1.4 tsi manual and 1.8 tsi dsg.
Worried if there is any kind of turbo lag in the 1.4 tsi manual?
Thomas, thanks for your feedback. Think im going for an Astra instead of the octavia. Actually im still in the dilemma with the bmw 116d.
Thanx. Listened with pleasure. I have the same feelings as far as the steering is concerned. Mine is with dcc 1.4 SLE. Perhaps it is the rear torsion beam... Donno.. really... Got it checked... test results as recommended... got used to it
Thx!
All Skodas seem to be conservative on the rear to me,otherwise great cars
Love the black wheels.
I like that car-Škoda Octavia. 17-01-2018
Nice car
It's not a sedan. It's a liftback.
no, its a hatchback.
Hatchback is something like a VW golf etc. Shorter back.
It's a hatch sedan. Rofl.
Nice review 👍 One question: Will Škoda ever be sold in USA? Thanks 😀
+Zapadna Hercegovina thx! Not yet
Hi Tomas. I really like your reviews. I have a side-question though - where did you shoot this video and which season? I looks really nice.
Gleich am Anfang des Videos dachte ich es wäre Niederländisch. :D
8:42 i'm picking up my new skoda tomorrow, however my mother has an older skoda and she used that "bin" as a place to stash her piles upon piles of keys. I personally would use it as a place to stash my phone if i had to leave it in the car for some reason.
+StobbyEnduroMX enjoy!
Cheers.
thanks keep tuning in!
Hi Tomas,
Thanks for the great review.
I am wondering what car should I get, skoda Octavia 2017-2018 or the new Kia Xceed. I would really like to know your opinion please in regards to comparison.
Thanks a lot
thanks! seen our XCeed video? ua-cam.com/video/QKqZVa65oyo/v-deo.html
The Octavia clearly has more space, will be a size decision imho if u need it!
And also comfort wise I d recommend test-seating comparison for u
At 174s at side view, I am in doubt, is O3 with standard or "sport suspension"?
It looks much lower than normal.
Really nice and complete review. Would be interested to know if this car had sport chassis (Sportfahrwerk) or the standard one because it seems to sit a bit lower than most Octavias I have seen so far.
appreciated!
standard afaik
I prefer Honda Civic Hatchback but at stated in this review the Octavia is a purely logical car choice. I feel that Civic is almost as roomy as Octavia. Am I wrong?
Nice ! test the RS245 please !
+Photography Bram 🙏🙏
As a caravaner those figures are the most important information that I would look for when comparing vehicles.
thanks! I think I did mention the consumption somewhere. 8 l if i remember
I've just had a 1.5 TSI DSG auto as a hire car in Scotland. 375 miles and when I filled the tank before handing it back, and did the sums, just over 49mpg. Highly impressive as I wasn't driving with economy in mind. It's now on my shortlist for my next car
Tnx for the Video again! Great Job! Is there any plan to test the "new" Golf Variant GTD in the Future or any time soon? :)
at the moment nothing is scheduled, but we work on it ;)
Something your test protocol doesn't address is reliability. I've often read that Skoda autos are exceptionally reliable.
We cannot do that since we cannot test every car 100.000 km
Understood! I wasn't criticizing.
The cost of cars is the same
hey m8, both are good cars! Have u seen our Civic review? ua-cam.com/video/j_ie9mRq8aw/v-deo.html
Yeah, I have seen almost all of you videos on those 2 cars. In Full HD, full screen, full length :)
+Branimir Vidovic the octavia is much more premium in the interior, and it is more spacious. the civic more fun to drive. Reliability is said to be better with Honda. Again both perfirme
+Autogefühl performed very well
agree with the reviews. not the most exciting car and the front is a fail if it aint broke don't fix it. but a lot of good points tho. you get alot of car for your money and from a very familiar motor group probably based on a golf,jetta,leon,a3 etc its lovely to drive has a massive boots pace and big access i personally wouldn't need an estate and prefer the saloon look anyways but each to their own and they should both be equally as popular. and its great to have a go faster version of a vrs and they're very powerful and not too obvious and that's more of a car for me. but this car has alot of advantages and skoda did a great job with all generation and should stay similar. but I agree the front is a no no anyways.
Sorry but I had to skip it when it came to the interior and that was just because the color, it reminded me on my vw golf mk4 tdi.
why no electric handbrake?
octavias with diesel engine are very good
Hi Thomas.
I have a Volvo V40 MY16, I have many problems with it, mostly mistakes from the dealer. Is it a downgrade to look at the Octavia my 18 in your opinion? Regards Rickard.
Not at all. The Octavia is a great car, it has like double the interior space of a V40
Autogefühl, I'm looking at a race blue, same engine but I am a little bit sceptical. I don't have anything against the two headlights, it marks out the Octavia when you see one. But I think they could have done a better jobb with the led strip. Great channel! Regards Rickard Sweden.
Best car I've owned
When will u bring us kia stinger thomas ?
Lets goooooo !!!!
Can you perceive a difference in Comfort compared to a vw Golf?
you can compare it for sure
DCC at 150 ps Octavia... is it with multi-link or torsion beam as rear suspension?
Skoda offers three different options for white color. Which one has been put on presented car?
tough question!
Sorry I do not know which white paint was actually displayed in Thomas´present review.
However.. All I can tell you recent about "Octavia" is :
"Alcantara" seats were lately replaced by the so called "suede" material", but only available in the highest "Laurin Klement" version.
So they are indeed well worth checking again with your local Skoda dealer in your own specific country..)
And Octavia is since recently also available with 2,0L petrol engine (180 hp). Power which seemed to correspond with my need
(I had Golf VI GTD 170 hp with DSG before, and I was very happy with that.
Does Octavia RS have multilink rear suspension?
Why no electric parking brake?? The new Seat Leon has it
Good video:)
+happymoments thanks, stick to us :)
thanks
Omg they have made a copy of the old Lexus navigation design.
Servus!
ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=autogef%C3%BChl+opel+insignia
The front design is a total deal breaker. And mostly the reliability issues on the new models.
Is this 4x4 ?
Optional
Almost 180cm interior length is almost 10cm longer than I am tall...
Okay, okay, over 10cm...
I have to say that "super comfortable" is only for Europeans. As an asian the whole design is super uncomfortable. The steering wheel is too far from the seat. Brake pedal is too high. Seat is too tall. My knee even touches the cover under steering wheel when lifting the whole leg to brake.
interesting!
most ugly front i've ever seen
looks like a downgrade.
just horrible but also unusual for skoda
Hatet it at first glance as well. But I kinda got used to it. You have to look at the inner lights as a "part" of the grill.
Heard it looks better in real life ;)
I hated it too, took me a while to get used to it just from the pictures. Then I saw one about two weeks ago ant it actually kind of works. I'd say, darker colors fit it better somehow
As a BMW fan i have to say that Skoda looks really nice. Has its own style. Love or hate it
Saw a VRS the other day and it looked fantastic with the new front end.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....
Black wheels ruin cars.
looks like 08 sonata
This car is all good technically. But no fun when driving it.
Volkswagen is better
What a sexy Jetta
Design is not exiting actually boring I can say.
Wanna be E class?
