The Skoda Octavia vRS Estate is a high-performance version of the standard Skoda Octavia Estate. It gets the same engines that feature in the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Volkswagen Golf GTD, but it also offers a vast amount of interior and boot space, making it incredibly quick and hugely practical as an everyday family vehicle.
Its only real rival is the Ford Focus ST Estate, although Vauxhall and Renault also offer fairly powerful estates in the form of the Astra Sports Tourer and Megane Sports Tourer.

For those with young children (or grandchildren like us) then I wish to say that we drive a Seat Leon (Sept' 2015 car) which is similar to the car reviewed here. I note the isofix in the Skoda looks very similar in layout to our Leon and the placement of the Isofix is superb, so easy to use :)

Why is it clever to put the ice scraper behind the fuel door and not the driver's? Or am I just the only one to first open the driver's door, start the engine and THEN start to scrape the windows?
Something that I don't understand with this is that a '09 330d touring with 245bhp (diesel obviously) is faster to 60mph than this vRS with the 245 2.0l (it easily does this in 6.5 on my 330xd touring with the old automatic gearbox). I thought that a gasoline engine at the same power would be at least marginally faster. I suppose that the difference would be more noticiable past 60 ?
dracul86 rear wheel drive vs front wheel drive. As a car accelerates, the weight transfers to the rear, so a rear wheel drive will grip the road better, whereas a front wheel drive will grip less.
What's with all the scratches in the glove box area

Octavia looked good before the facelift. Now it's so ugly and its just a Skoda....

The Octavia vRS Estate: It can humilate boy racers in their Corsas and Saxos in a traffic light grand prix... while carrying some IKEA flat packed furniture.
And the similarly priced and sized SEAT Leon ST Cupra can humiliate the Octavia VRS.
ACS607 While also carrying a 50” TV in the boot.
I don't know the size of 50" tv but The Leon is only about 20 litres down on space for the standard fwd version. Not dissing the VRS because i like them, but just saying that the Leon is better if you want a performance estate.

This and the Leon ST Cupra are such bargains compared to the VW equivalent and any competition - Loads of performance, practicality and general ease. Very good.

too much emphasis on superficial things like badges, ice scrapers and parking ticket holders.
No mention as to whether is has a spare wheel or even the storage space to carry one.

Twig 100% agree...they always do that with skoda...spend time singing praises of minor items costing £20 on a 30k car!

I’d say your DSG box in the review car has a fault. The last two Skoda’s I’ve owned have been DSG and mines isn’t jumpy always very smooth. I wouldn’t go back to a manual.

@@vikasrajanand4064How your search end ? DSGs had a bad reputation when they were first introduced in the VAG group but seems they more reliable
On a practical note, have heard good things about the Octavia especially the 2litre diesels. Optimum size wheels for handling on a car is 18 inch, but can still be too large with pot holes and bumpy roads. For comfort, 17 inch or smaller is better unless you have tyre ratio of 60 or higher.
7 minutes of my life I will never get back. Totally worth it.
Mate goes to use the ice scrapper and the petrol cap was frozen solid so he couldn’t get to it 😂
Skoda interiors are dull though they're good quality and practical

Those split headlights are disgusting. Love the way that they overlook the lack of flat load area just because it's a skoda /vw group car. Any other manufacturer and they would be saying how bad it is.
i agree about the headlights sadly all seem to follow suit now mercedes and lesus like that too hideous

I don't know with this car. It is all on paper such a good value, but it is just not speeking to me. Maybe it is just too sensible to be exciting...
I’m guessing the front end face lift was created by a 16 year old designer with a joint in the corner of his mouth. I mean the headlights ? WTF ??It looks bloody awful. I own a 2012 se plus estate in meteor grey, looks far better in my opinion than the later messed about offerings.
The facelift was a styling disaster.
can you replace the front light arrangements to the pre-facelift model?!
My VRS has grabbed me in an emotional way. I adore this car - it is the most enjoyable car I've ever driven. It hugs the road as well as any sports car I've had previously. The only downside is I will likely lose points off my licence if I allow my emotions to stamp my right foot down omn the accelerator!
You can't be serious! Is Skoda planning to keep that hideous headlamp design into 2018? God Almighty! They are human right violation. Don't you continue it, Skoda.
Although you’re a true Goddess Ginny, I do think you’re wrong on the DSG. Had loads- always amazing. How would a manual be better, especially around town, than a sweet auto?

Hi Ginny.. aint it just called the RS..! not to be called as V-RS..?? the V in the Badge is just V from the Logo for the Skoda ( v on top of S).

Nope, the DSG is perfect, if youe were driving around town in sport, this would make changes uncertain

2:00 I love to see Ginny inside the boot. Actually, I just love to see her.
As an owner of a VRS since new 2014, points to note are : ride quality is very poor, it just never settles on UK roads and interior cabin noise is loud all gets very tiring on longer trips at 70. Grip is also very poor in the slightest of damp conditions on the FWD versions. Annoying sound enhancer can’t be switched off on the sport mode, gets very tiring, and normal setting just makes the engine feel very flat. Fundamentally this is a cheap FWD Volkswagen group parts bin special, it is neither fast, comfortable, exciting or engaging just offers lots of boot space, comfortable seats and low running costs. I have had ZERO faults with it, other than all the rattles and squeaks that set in after about 12 months on all skoda’s (cheaper materials/fit and finish). If you are in the market for a cheap estate I would thoroughly recommend it but just don’t expect much from it.

Like some one else mentioned you only covered things that are superficial in aspects (it has vRS badge, well no its a vRS after all)

can the base of the rear seats be lifted so the seats fold flat ?
load lip, seems a lot of estate seem to miss the point about not having a load lip why not cover this off has a negitive
whats the towing ability of the car
power was mentioned but nothing about the torque
storage, good bad etc
all in all this just felt like a advert for the car all be it a 7min one, if all you are going to do is be a fluffer for the car markers what is the point of doing a review ? just smacks of being lasy

Pete harris - The DSG actually works well. It doesn’t miss a beat and a tap back on the DSG stick engages sport gearing if you want it and sets it up perfectly for some fun on the back roads.
Love that colour.

Matter of opinion
I like the idea of a fast and practical car like this as well. I’m just tired of seeing combustion engines talked about and whenever there is a hybrid available, the presenters mention it in passing or say not to go for it. Which is why they should just make an EV version. Way more economical and fun to drive. I don’t think there are any EV estates yet. Someone should be taking advantage of the gap in the market.

manuals are always fractionally quicker at accelerating and slightly more economical ...(as a rule)

this is sadly the worst quality car on the market, its in fact so bad, you will regret it within weeks of buying it.... not the engine, the built quality and the materials are pathethic.. sorry.. and i have one, the 2017 model.. i regret it
