I had so much fun down there, even without any friends to meet and trade accessories with. Hey! This is Butterfree from The Cave of Dragonflies, late to the party. Glad you enjoyed my honey tree guide, and thanks for the shoutout! (Though there's just one of me, and I'm a woman. :P) Slathering the trees three times a day doesn't require you to stay up for eighteen hours! You slather them once in the morning, say 10 AM; then you slather them again in the afternoon at 4 PM; and then you slather them again in the evening before you go to bed, at 10 PM. You'll be asleep by the time the Pokémon appears in the tree at 4 AM, but that's fine; you'll pick it up at 10 AM the next morning when you slather the trees again. It sounds unintuitive but you only need to be awake twelve hours to get those three slatherings in.

And to think this was the one gen when I decided to actually do it. I succeeded, but it was so long ago I remember nothing but lots of Pal Park. Oh actually I'm remembering lots of the gen 3 GameCube games. The last Pokemon I got was Ho-oh out of Heart Gold, because the requirements to get a Ho-oh out of Colosseum were so insane that I don't even think I bothered to try.
Gen. 4 is my childhood. My 1st game was soulsilver. I then went back to game stop and got my dad to also buy me pearl and platinum. My sister had heartgold, diamond and platinum. We had lots of fun in the underground game. The trick is to plant the gems in the ground then they will grow! The walls around your gem garden will be filled with fossils! (And other shards and such) i can find a fossile every 10 or so mine mini games.
Bruh my childhood was gen 1 but I have so much nostalgia for 4th gen ;0; Replaying it feels too different, I loved playing it back then, SO much that I would fall asleep to the league's night ost.
I kind of appreciate when there are unlockables in video games that actually feel earned. Beating the Elite Four feels like an accomplishment the first time, but for a veteran Pokemon player it always devolves to simple type-advantages and numbers. I like getting something that no one else would be insane enough to go for, and something that other Pokemon fans will have legitimate respect for. That being said a lot of the time those accomplishments are more about toughing out frustrating RNG scenarios rather than actually demonstrating any kind of skill, which is pretty unfortunate. "I earned this thing by slathering a tree with honey and waiting 2348 hours" is not actually that much of a boast.
I did all of this back when Diamond was current gen and i'm honestly surprised how hard he found this, the mining thing is actually taught to you in its entirety via the old guy that gives you the ability to go underground. I'm pretty sure I also remember getting all the safari zone\type area in the course of a couple days after school not to mention getting all but 7 Pokemon on Sapphire before the next game was released (only missed the 7 due to accidentally wiping my game). I get the strong impression that none of it is actually that difficult, its just that its not intended to be played in one sitting so its only noticeable in this specific scenario. Really the game is designed to be played by kids before and after school, hence the timers on the trees etc - anywhere between 6 to 8 hours is fantastic if you slather the honey before school, come home and check then check then, re-apply the honey, and get the next one the following morning. It keeps you engaged over multiple days and every now and then you'll get a reward in the form of a rare pokemon
I'm usually lucky with this kinda stuff, but this was just insane. I went down to the coronet basement expecting to spend at least an hour down there. I fished up the feebas after ten minutes. I didn't even have to use surf!
Kerschmack Had a pretty similar experience myself in _Platinum_ with Feebas; evolved it into a Milotic with those pre-made, buyable Poffins, which felt great. I have yet to catch one in _Emerald_, however. :(
TheUnderground still works nperfectly fine nowadays, because it doesn't utilize the Wifi-Connection at all, instead just the wireless connection between two DS's, so if you and your Friend still happen to have one of these and a Copy of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum you can still play this together. And honestly, I had very much fun back in the days, Building a base, decorating it, visiting my friends cave, setting traps, playing the capture-the-flag minigame... So... maybe it's just Nostalgia and because Platinum was my first Pokemon-Game and one of of my first games in total, but there was pretty much to the underground in my opinion.
Jrose six years ago: “im not gonna make an hour long video on filling out the national dex” Jrose today: “watch me spend an hour and twenty minutes coercing a zubat into soloing red”
Gohar Awais people going to your underground base and talking to your npc version count as you talking to them. However it would be the same as the person going in and out a lot
Honestly, I spent an unhealthy amount of time in the Underground. Out to the 300 or so hours on my old Pearl game, at least 50-100 was likely spent there. I also never found a Croagunk. I somehow caught two or so Carnivine, but never found a Croagunk. Feck this game.
And just to say, the underground was awesome! I’m pretty sure the fossil always dropped after the first few digs, the hammer and pick was annoying but it was a fun extra which gave you an extra activity to do in game.
In the times I've played Platinum, I've encountered Munchlax immediately after lathering the 2 trees with honey and checking them. And one of them had Pokérus. RNBless by RNJesus.
I actually really liked the underground. It could have felt a little more organic in it's design with a variety of type themed areas (underground lakes, etc.), but I enjoyed it a lot for what it was. The minigame can be a little tricky to do optimally, but if I remember right, you want to start by using your hammer to randomly clear a few spots in the soft dirt, then dig out anything you find, then switch to the pickaxe and use it to probe random areas until you find part of something then carefully excavate the top rocks using the pickaxe and the next layer using the hammer. Focus on one thing at a time, if you try to get everything out then you'll end up leaving multiple things. A better version of the underground is actually one thing they could add to the newer games that would immediately get me on board, the same goes for the step counter that came with HeartGold and SoulSilver, or the ARG elements of pokemon go where you need to head to an actual store to stock up on pokeballs, and the Colosseum mechanic of stealing the pokemon of abusive trainers. At some point they'll release a pokemon game that has everything, and it will be amazing.
I remember spending months checking those stupid trees for the munchlax. Every morning before school I would check the trees. After one finally showed up I was so scared it would flee. So, I used the one masterball we got on it. Good memories man. I’ll never forget that.
Me: *was about to comment about Steelix* Jrose11: I know that someone's going to mention Steelix but you can just catch a Steelix, so it doesn't count! Me: Gosh damn it! *deletes everything*
15:20 They're not referring to staying up for 18 hours: they're referring to using the regular two six-hour periods, then slathering the trees the third time and leaving the game until the next day. Then you immediately check, get in two more checks over a 12-hour period, and once again use the third slather right before you stop for the day. It's basically a method of skipping six hours of 'waiting', since you'll be asleep or doing more relevant stuff, but it doesn't help the fundamental issue that 1% encounter rates should *never* be a thing.
I was replaying the pokemon diamond and pearl games, so I wanted to see how I could fill out the regional pokedex first. I clicked on this video and watched the whole thing. I have now given up my dreams of filling out the pokedex.
Dude this video was awesome. I don't get captivated much when watching videos, but I was just watching intently the whole time, and holy crap, as soon as you said "I'm not Goro" in that tone that reeked of desperation and anguish to simply do what GameFreak intended to do with these games, which was catch em all, made me burst out laughing. LOL But man... This video seemed like a documentary on why the Pokemon games suck. XD
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you get a Manaphy egg at the end of Pokemon Ranger? Granted, I think you need to gift it to D/P/Pt, then trade it to HG/SS, but those are Gen 4 games, so technically you could get Manaphy in the regional pokedex, with a similar problem to Gen 3 and the Ho-Oh/Lugia issue.
*+Maverick Solomon* Yup, but the problem is that Pokemon Ranger only grants one Manaphy egg per game, as in, no matter how much you try Pokemon Ranger will only grant one Manaphy egg per cartridge not per save file.
I didn’t have trouble with catching a lot of these Pokémon, especially munchlax. But I think that goes to having a brother who loved to play Pokémon with me, and that be really young when playing helped with my attention span.
I actually was able to legitly complete the national Dex back when the games came out. It took a few while, but I didn't have much else to do at the time.
Just a quick note: Manaphy IS actually obtainable in Diamond and Pearl if you have the game Pokémon Ranger. Having that game allows you to enter a special code which unlocks a mission to net a Manaphy Egg which is to be transferred to Diamond and Pearl. Due to the fact that you have stated you will use Spin-offs if necessary, Pokémon Ranger should be used to obtain Manaphy, since it's the only way you're going to (Unlike in its sequels, the Original Pokémon Ranger's Manaphy event IS still available, although you'll have to play through it all the way through since you must complete Pokémon Ranger to unlock Ranger Net)
The problem with using the Pokemon Ranger Manaphy code is that you only get the code one per _cartridge_ As in, if you’ve beaten the game and obtained the code once, you will never obtain another ever again for that cartridge Meaning your only options are somehow getting an absolutely brand new Ranger game, or getting a used one and praying the code wasn’t already claimed
I must've gotten EXTREMELY lucky back then as a kid, because I remember finding a munchlax in a random honey tree when I was decently far into the game already, and I only had to slather honey like 4 times maybe.
Bro you saved my life I thought I had to talk to 100 different players for Spiritomb and now you tell me I can just talk to the same person 32x I love you kisses
Lol I’ve done all of the “hardest catches” for fun as a kid, and Pokémon competitions were absolutely fun to devastate with my Milotic. It did take me forever to get my Munchlax tho
I think it'd be interesting for you to do Catch 'Em Alls for the rest of the generations. I know that Gen 8 doesn't have all the Pokemon (and later gens probably won't as well), but it'd be interesting to see if you could catch all the Pokemon available in that specific gen. Ironically, Sword and Shield, the games people were the most upset about (unless they were more upset about Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, I don't know) has the most Pokemon available in any Gen 8 game with about 650 available with the DLC, while Legends Arceus, the game people were the least upset about, has the least with 242. Given that all the Pokemon from Gen 8 are available (obviously, either in Sword/Shield or Legends Arceus) as well as all the Pokemon from Gens 1-4 (in BD/SP, with some available in SWSH and Legends Arceus), these are the only Pokemon missing: Alolan Rattata, Alolan Raticate, Alolan Grimer, Alolan Muk, Alolan Geodude, Alolan Graveler, Alolan Golem, Snivy, Servine, Serperior, Tepig, Pignite, Emboar, Unovan Samurott, Patrat, Watchog, Pansage, Simisage, Pansear, Simisear, Panpour, Simipour, Blitzle, Zebstrika, Sewaddle, Swadloon, Leavanny, Ducklett, Swanna, Deerling, Sawsbuck, Alomomola, Tynamo, Eelektrik, Eelektross, Meloetta, Chespin, Quilladin, Chesnaught, Fennekin, Braixen, Delphox, Froakie, Frogadier, Greninja, Scatterbug, Spewpa, Vivillon, Litleo, Pyroar, Flabebe, Floette, Florges, Skiddo, Gogoat, Furfrou, Hoopa, Pikipek, Trumbeak, Toucannon, Yungoos, Gumshoos, Crabrawler, Crabominable, Oricorio, Minior, Komala, and Bruxish.

On the third of the day, you need to wait 6 hours to battle the Pokemon and reslather so technically you do
Dam my favorite gen. The mining mini game was a nostalgia throwback to something I haven't seen in like 10 years. Completely forgot about it
"Diamond Pearl remakes not looking very likely" :D this aged beautifully
And to think this was the one gen when I decided to actually do it. I succeeded, but it was so long ago I remember nothing but lots of Pal Park.
Oh actually I'm remembering lots of the gen 3 GameCube games. The last Pokemon I got was Ho-oh out of Heart Gold, because the requirements to get a Ho-oh out of Colosseum were so insane that I don't even think I bothered to try.
Oh yeah, the Underground.
Really glad they never brought that trash back.
OH MY GOD YES
FUCK THOSE HONEY TREES
FUUUUUCK THEM
mjc0961 reee
This is always my favourite to come back to. One of my favourites that pushed my boy Jrose past his brink.
This is up there with “96 Ralts at 4% with a Feebas” and “getting 32 BP for a White Herb in Ariados” for exasperation.
Awwww. Mine was blue.
Bruh my childhood was gen 1 but I have so much nostalgia for 4th gen ;0; Replaying it feels too different, I loved playing it back then, SO much that I would fall asleep to the league's night ost.
yhea lel my first pokemon game was red version
Ah, spiritomb is composed of 32 spirits chained to the keystone, which relates to its pokedex number- which is why you need to talk to 32 peeps
I’m sure someone already told you this though, have a good one! ❤️
Jackson Branby its 108 spirits kiddo
Nick T close enough
Am I fucking murdering these people for their souls? Otherwise that's still just tedious nonsense.
That doesnt make it not stupid.
Jrose:Freaking out that he maxed out the beauty and Feebas wont evolve.
Me:(Looks at video) Its holding a Everstone tho.
It wasn't maxed. I guess, everstone was given to Feebas after he found out that this Feebas won't evolve.
The everstone was given to Feebas so that it keeps it nature when breeding for a new one :)
Very nostalgic video. Best pkmn content around
wait what about arceus
fighting cans Arceus is not in the regional pokedex. There's a bunch of gen iv mons that are not actually
this not pikmin
+fighting cans exorist or you can learn how to do Arceuse's void glitch.
I loved the underground, I always thought it was so lit. Excellent progression from secret bases from gen 3
I played D/P and I didn't even know that tree munchlax was a thing
Amen this is exactly what I did when I was 12
Let’s commit horrible atrocities in each of our local cities until part 2 comes out!
For everyday we wait one hostage goes.
Lol
I will piss in everyones boots.
I'll put pineapple on pizza
Monster.
I'll go to an elevator push every button on it while someone was going to the top floor, and proceed to leave the elevator
0:50 "I'm not gonna make an hour-long video"
Five and a half years later and here we are
This video gets exponentially more painful from beginning to end.
Not saying this video isn't really useful and informative, but I mean holy shit
Just saying, that Underground minigame wasn't a wifi thing...It was wireless, back then, too...lol...
If this makes it better...:')...
"And I'm not gonna make an hour long video"
Ah, so young and innocent.
Been checking the channel every day since Gen 3 to see if you came out with Gen 4. And it's Finally here!!!!!
Olimar103 Dude just subscribe and hit the bell
HeyHeyChey Notifications aren't very good on Mobile
Olimar103 saaaaaame
Theres is only one true generation.
Olimar103 works wonders for me and I only use mobile
Give this man a cookie!
nice to see you ambassador Skul
Wasn't expecting to see you here but okay.
SKUUUUUL! What in the name of ARCEUS are you doing here?
Oh wow I thought u stopped Pokémon and u went full splatoon
SkulShurtugalTCG this man is a shame to pearl
4:12 You have betrayed our God, Lord Helix, you will now be cursed and punished for all of eternity
Just think that you wanted SHINY Milotic xD
Might be easier to breed febas
Oof
@@nanouhex5214 Yeah
When he said “a game that came out over ten years ago” I felt that...
I loved the mining bit on the underground. But I had no friends to play with T.T
The undergroud was so much fun back in the days! :O
I dindt have wifi back then so i never got those wifi only pokemon seriously tho fuck those honey trees.
Unlike the dream world :(
I think it was a lot of fun IF U HAD FRIENDS. If you didn't (at least pokemon players) well....loneliness so I understand why he disliked it tbh.
Jrose six years ago: “im not gonna make an hour long video on filling out the national dex”
Jrose today: “watch me spend an hour and twenty minutes coercing a zubat into soloing red”
I was just about to comment something like that lmfao
you can get spiritomb easier with an underground base
Dolan dark jr.????
duck, Please don't eat me
Gohar Awais people going to your underground base and talking to your npc version count as you talking to them. However it would be the same as the person going in and out a lot
Diamond and Pearl is the definition of hit and miss. Platinum was amazing though.
Moe's I agree. Platinum fixed a lot of things from DP
Tyler Kaszuba how?
Agree. Platinum is my favourite game in the series. My love for Diamond and Pearl is purely nostalgic.
+Tyler Kaszuba do you guys live in igloos?
Lol jk I live in Canada too
I loved Pearl
Damn, not all you-tubers deserve the recognition but you went above and beyond!
It's freaking 1am and then this video came...
TheMagia TNT 6 where I am
Christian Escandon me too
same
So why the hell r u up at 1 am too huh?
MoreAbdul idk
Honestly, I spent an unhealthy amount of time in the Underground. Out to the 300 or so hours on my old Pearl game, at least 50-100 was likely spent there.
I also never found a Croagunk. I somehow caught two or so Carnivine, but never found a Croagunk. Feck this game.
I found a lot of them I was intrigued by them and everytime I restarted I would catch one. Their special ability is cool.
And just to say, the underground was awesome! I’m pretty sure the fossil always dropped after the first few digs, the hammer and pick was annoying but it was a fun extra which gave you an extra activity to do in game.
I remember a friend finding a freaking shiny drapion in safari zone
I caught a shiny wooper in it, and a Drapion too low leveled to even be a Drapion as well
I was wondering why you were saying Munchlax was so hard to get, then you mentioned honey and it all came flooding back...
All those hours wasted throwing honey on those trees... Good times.
Can’t believe I did this as a kid! The last Pokémon I ever got was actually Lumineon. Just forgot it existed lol
Me: *was about to comment about Steelix*
Jrose11: I know that someone's going to mention Steelix but you can just catch a Steelix, so it doesn't count!
Me: Gosh damn it! *deletes everything*
Same in x and y.
THIS IS FUKING GEN 4
well, you didnt delete this XDD
lol
0:48 "I'm not going to make an hour long video" hilarious how that statement aged 😅
*whispers*
"Yo u want some void glitch"
The angrier you get the more you sound like Michael from Achievement Hunter and I love it.
1:16 *DON'T TRY THIS*
_proceeds to explain exactly how you can, indeed, try this_
UA-cam: _Hey let's recommend this video to this guy for literally an entire year before he gives up and clicks on it_
Me:
Me:
Me:
I'm not going to make an hour long video........you tempted fate with that one.
13:41 D/P remakes laugh 4 years later ✨💅😜
I was replaying the pokemon diamond and pearl games, so I wanted to see how I could fill out the regional pokedex first. I clicked on this video and watched the whole thing. I have now given up my dreams of filling out the pokedex.
female combee is more annoying than munchlax because, at the time, you couldn't it transfer from anywhere else and female ratio was super low
You could soft reset until you got your desired gender though.
Black lamb you could also soft reset for munchlax tho.
Predated O You can't soft reset for different Pokemon on honey trees. They are determined from the minute you slather honey.
its really not super low. its 1/4 and combee appears with decent encounter rates. munchlax is 1/100 on "random" 4 trees
VESPIQUEEN IS WORTH IT
To anyone still wanting to play these games online, reply here. It is still possible through custom DNS server. Let's trade, battle and stuff :D
How many birds fit in a BIRD cage? The answer is yes.
if you add 7 cats to a monocular what is the gender of the purple you get? the answer is helicopter
Reda Akn what is grape plus orange? Originality boiz
When does the sky fall? When it's not summer anymore.
Reda Akn You win UA-cam for that comment right there lol
This guy puts so much effort into his videos, I love it
Dude this video was awesome. I don't get captivated much when watching videos, but I was just watching intently the whole time, and holy crap, as soon as you said "I'm not Goro" in that tone that reeked of desperation and anguish to simply do what GameFreak intended to do with these games, which was catch em all, made me burst out laughing. LOL
But man... This video seemed like a documentary on why the Pokemon games suck. XD
3 slathers a day is only 12 hours, nice math:
- Slather in morning
- Slather 6 hours later
- Slather 6 hours later (12 hours after waking up)
Thank you. Route 209 is one of the best VGM I’ve ever heard in a Pokémon game and probably in a game period
You didn’t mention the other trade Pokémon like elective, magmortar, duskinoir, rhyperior, etc
It really speaks to the quality of JRose's current content that these videos are WHY I subscribed and I completely forgot he did them XD
Part two soon please
(Also can't wait for gen 4 remakes. The new underground is gonna be L I T)
I really enjoyed the mining minigame when I played Diamond for the first time
What a nightmare. Thanks for being a saint.
I found a munchlax in a honey tree the other day finally. Super worth the trouble to boss the battle tower with Snorlax.
The problem with using the Pokemon Ranger Manaphy code is that you only get the code one per _cartridge_
As in, if you’ve beaten the game and obtained the code once, you will never obtain another ever again for that cartridge
Meaning your only options are somehow getting an absolutely brand new Ranger game, or getting a used one and praying the code wasn’t already claimed
Neosonic97 a
I must've gotten EXTREMELY lucky back then as a kid, because I remember finding a munchlax in a random honey tree when I was decently far into the game already, and I only had to slather honey like 4 times maybe.
How does the underground show off wi-fi capabilities when it doesn't use online?
Spiritomb
doesn't answer the question. the underground doesn't use online, it uses local connectivity
it has never used online. only the gts used online.
TheGhastlyGengar I never had Platinum but I recall hearing it had online underground.
why would people be requesting it if it existed?
it was always local
No it was local!! I remember the "wifi" logo would go down whenever you'd be too far away from someone else's ds.
I caught EVERY SINGLE POKÉMON in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. I also traded for the starters, evolution, and legendaries.
" Getting the fossils takes forever."
Me a dinosaur kid: " that is fine..."
Bro you saved my life I thought I had to talk to 100 different players for Spiritomb and now you tell me I can just talk to the same person 32x I love you kisses
Wait a minute does this work for platinum too?
How the hell did you misspell Spiritomb as Kryppuk?
xDD Soz my bad, I forgot to translate the name, I called it the German name Kryppuk out of habit.
I’ve never seen a video with so many but wait there’s more moments
19:56 Just to let you know, Goro has 4 arms, not 6. Like a Machamp, whom he lost to in a fight by the way.
Lol I’ve done all of the “hardest catches” for fun as a kid, and Pokémon competitions were absolutely fun to devastate with my Milotic. It did take me forever to get my Munchlax tho
Ok
I remember completing the Pokédex in diamond and just getting a little certificate
Boy the fun I’m going to have trying to catch em all in every single handheld Pokémon game ever made
There should be laws against self harm like this
I think it'd be interesting for you to do Catch 'Em Alls for the rest of the generations.
