Onix is going to be a breeze. A giant rock snake will just smash everything with its high attack. That's why elite four member Bruno uses them on his high powered team.
As a kid, I remember getting so excited encountering onix thinking it would be extremely powerful but of course I didn’t understand stats at the time and was so confuse why it fainted so easily in battles
it also happened to me back then with the other mons, got disappointed by the boring lame moveset, like Tauros learning tail whip in lvl 28 lmao that sucks, or a lvl 26 Rhyhorn that only knows one move.
The fainting so easily isn't even the problem tho. Onix is one of those "physically defensive" relatively low HP low Sp. Def Rock/Ground types like the Rhydon and Golem lines (exceptions are Tyranitar and Rhyperior in sand), so of course Beautifly could easily OHKO all of them with 4x Special coverage like Mega Drain at the correct level. Here's the kicker tho: Aerodactyl is ultra-fast and has acceptable Attack, Rhydon and Golem are slower, also don't have stellar HP stats BUT... at least they can do DAMAGE! I'd EVEN be happy if they switched out Onix' Attack with its SPEED (70 I think) instead of its 130-160 Defense or whatever it may be, that'd be overkill but 70 Attack? That would help it! Also 70-80 HP would AT LEAST make it PHYSICALLY DEFENSIVE! Like bro why? WHY? Why can this thing do absolutely nothing than take non-STAB normal Tackles and Pounds? Like come on Game Freak, you could've given this thing SOMETHING? Who writes the Dex entries anyways, the Professors' kids he sent on adventures throughout the regions? Onix is one of my favourite Mons and yes STEELIX is hyper-super-mega cool... Onix... You look so cool, yet Regigigas is more useful than you.
@@Elijah-hz9ls there's a video out there that explains it better than I will, but I can't remember its title nor who made it so I'll try to paraphrase it as best I can. The reason why Onix is the way it is, is entirely because it acts as a learning tool for new players. In a typical playthrough led by a kid who doesn't have the power of experience, by the time they reach Brock, they're probably still in the single digit category. It's been a while since I've played, but I believe the first elemental attacks learned by the starters aren't until around level 10 (I may be wrong, though). In any case, for a new player who's just kinda going through the game, tackle/scratch are the main moves they'd be using at that point. Then anything caught like the bugs, birds, or rodents on the way. Said things caught wouldn't really have anything useful by this time. All their physical moves are kinda useless against Brock as rock-types are resistant to the Weedles/Nidorans' poison stings and tackles/scratches (in Red/Blue, neither Nidoran learned double kick early enough). Onix was there as a defensive wall that made the player think of alternative strategies. Its attack stat was made to be weak as the developers still wanted to give the player a chance to win. So around that time, players would notice those other moves like vine whip and ember. They would then learn that some moves work off of different stats and some Pokemon are more vulnerable to them, even if they could be resistant (such as Onix taking damage from ember). TLDR: learning opportunity for new players still in the single digits.
Same with Scyther. Kid me thought it looked awesome in the anime, so got one in blue, and it sucked. No flying or bug moves, and the only useful move it knows is slash.
Onix's BST was definitely designed around being a first-gym "boss", and not as a Pokemon you carry around and use. Anyways, great content as usual, you definitely deserve at least 300k subs.
Already subbed, take the like, here's a bonus comment for the algorithm, and you're one of literally 2-3 people I actually ring the bell for. I don't like getting a ton of notifications, but your videos are always worth the notif. :)

I'm not even in the poketube and I make refferences to Jrose11. I made a refutation to a whole podcast livestream by Aron Ra, and I styled it as a Jrose run.
Problem with Onix is that it was designed as the first 'boss' Pokemon so it's stats reflect that. Speedy, low attack so it's faster than your starter but doesn't hit hard enough to do serious damage to it
I love how there was almost no middle ground with this run. Most fights were either a struggle or a total breeze. I guess that's what happens when you have two 4x weaknesses and not great stats.
That’s honestly how a lot of defense focused pokemon are I find. If you can wall something then it’s easy, but if you can’t, you don’t have a lot else to compensate usually.
You have a really good talent for narrating and voice over. Specfically: (1) Youre really good at capturing that intial excitement and surprise. It always feels super genuine. (2) I've seen a lot of these videos and I'm never fully sure how a battle is going to go. Keeping me on my toes (and entertained!).
@@robosuit oh that's such a shame! Sorry to hear my guy, he's so loveable imo. He reminds me of an elementary school kid who would lend you all the pokemon game he beats so you could try it too. But all grown up.
I love Jrose and his videos but his excitement/disappointment can sometimes feel a little forced. I've been watching since the start and it just feels like at some point he started tacking on the ''let's go'' moments for increased viewer engagement. Which I understand, but it doesn't really feel genuine to me :P
I do agree Venasaur was the right pick for Onix's "hardest challenge". Blastoise has better defense but Venasaur has Razor Leaf, and Gyarados is a much more massive threat than Exeggutor.
After watching a few of these, I definitely prefer ones in later generations due to more interesting strategies being implemented but my personal favorite thing about Gen 1 is just getting to see the badge boost in action.
36:03 "I don't know if I can count on that" Surprisingly enough, you can. There is a group of NPCs with good AI that on the second turn will either boost its stats or heal, Lorelei is part of that group and she will have Dewgong use Rest on the second turn about 80% of the time. I thought you knew that when I saw Dig alongside Earthquake on Onix's moveset before you deleted, because delaying the first turn with Fly or Dig and have Dewgong rest while my Pokémon sets up is a strategy I used in my Pidgeotto run.
Lorelei's Dewgong has a 50% chance of using Rest (who has always a Psychic move except in GO) on Turn 2 (should be Turn 1 but Gen I). How the 80% Rest chance come from? Against Nidoking (pokemon used in RB Speedrun and has the WR) it has a 50% chance to use Rest any turn except the 2nd, where it's guaranteed to use Rest. However, Dewgong WILL use Rest against a non-Ice weak Fighting and Poison Pkmn every turn, causing insanely long battles (and ended losing to Struggle recoil) against some Poison Pokemon. To evade this situation, in Pokemon Yellow Lorelei's Dewgong's moves are considered neutral 40% of the time. For Nidoking (again the Pokemon for a speedrun, and is actually older than in RB because no Squirtle starter) Lorelei's Dewgong had a 30% chance to use Rest every turn (now it also has Bubble Beam) against it except in the 2nd where the chance is 80%. This AI is only done for her Dewgong and only in Yellow.
In Gen II, Top trainers had Great AI which is better than Good AI. The trainers with Good AI had a similar modification than in Gen I with the following exceptions: -If a Pokemon it's weak to one type and resist the other now the AI considers that move as neutral. -For resistances and weakness, it only considers moves with doesn't have 0 Power. -For immunities it totally dismiss the move unless there is no alternative... There's a similar AI modification similar to RBY AI 2 modification... that doesn't include healing moves and it works in the 1st turn of battle (there's a bug with item usage that Gen II speedrunners abuse, specially against Red). Also, in Gen II, there's a basic AI (shared by all trainers except Twins) that dismisses many situations where the move would be useless. And the Status AI modification also dismisses poisoning a Poison type and type inmunities (yep, the AI doesn't use Hypnosis on Darks and Sing on Ghosts even though they're AFFECTED).
@@farnan92 Like I said, I did a Pidgeotto run and I started to notice this, and I wondered about it and I remembered the Pokémon AI Tournament video said something about Lorelei's Dewgong's Rest being nerfed in Yellow, so I looked up Gen 1 AI and in pokemonspeedruns, it show me why it was happening. Modifications 2 and 3 explained why this was happening, since Dewgong would have had no reason to use anything but Aurora Beam. I might have mistaken the 80% chance of Rest at the actual percentage it happens, but I battled the E4 lots of times, and I do mean lots and it using Rest on the second turn seemed to happen a hell of a lot more than 50%.
@@Jrose11 I know from Scott’s Thoughts channel (and even your own minimum battles run) that this is a thing in Yellow. I didn’t know it was also the case in Red/Blue.
Yea i hate it too when creators begging for likes and subs. Since you asked so nicely, I try to do it for every video for now. Youre the first one i do this. And you deserve it
I really wish they made Onix a whole lot stronger, but I have the feeling that Onix has 45 Attack due to being Brock's main Pokemon. If it had 120 Attack, I guess they thought it would probably be frigging impossible for new players to take it down. But that beautiful 4x weakness to both Grass and Water circumvents that, I'd say. I wouldn't be too surprised if that's why Rock Throw has an absolutely abysmal 60% accuracy too.
I think Onix is under appreciated for what it is; a physical wall that absolutely suffocates unevolved Pokémon, even good ones that do not have special Attacks. It's like a worse prequel to Skarmory and Steelix, you don't expect those to be that good offensively but they are miles better than Onix lol.
@@tylerd1297 Also worth adding that Onix is actually relatively strong in Gen 1 where most Pokemon have terrible move pools. A vast majority of Pokemon are going to be running at least 1 Normal type move. This doesn't make Onix good competitively of course, but I'll be damned if it isn't a great wall for a normal playthrough.
Onix seems to have been designed exclusively to be a raidboss for the first gym in the series, having very high defense and speed and a normal resist to make it seem scary, pitiful attack to give the player time to take it down, and an exploitable typing to reward new players for engaging with the matchup system Like a lot of things in gen 1 it was made to fill a role in the game and didn't have much consideration past that, such as whether the player would want to use it by the time they get it Steelix made it a real Pokémon in the very next gen thankfully
@@wes2287 It's also surprisingly strong in Gen II as well for all the same reasons, as well as the fact that it dunks on every Rocket Trainer in the game and you get Dig TM in both Gen I and II super early.
For me at least, it’s become sort of a security blanket. I’m at a low point in my life mentally. The consistency and predictability of these runs takes me to a happy place where I can forget my issues.
I remember that when I first played Platinum fully (I couldn't figure out how to delete a Save File for a while), I remembered being terrified of Onix, since I couldn't one shot him with Mach Punch, Rock Smash, Ember, or Flame Wheel. As soon as I found and captured one in Oreburgh Mine, I thought I had the most powerful Pokemon... until Onix got taken out by a Beautifly with Absorb.
@@KainaX122 hey, when all your friends say that Chimchar is the best starter, you would pick it thinking it would dominate most things. I mean I did beat Cynthia with a bunch of level 48-51 Pokemon... after three weeks of playing under the covers, restarting, and trying again, only because I didn't want to grind. Eventually I did beat her, after my level 48 Graveler blew up on her Garchomp.
You mentioned a lot of Pokemon start with Normal-type moves, so I got curious and wanted to see which ones don't, and in looking through them all I realized... Raichu is going to have to use Struggle against Brock. Its only attacking move is Thundershock. It won't have nearly the level of issue as Abra, but it'll have a harder time against Brock than Pikachu did. I'm also interested in how Muk will go against Brock since it starts with Poison Gas, so Bide could be rendered a non-issue...
Eh, Raichu may have an easier time than Pikachu. Raichu at level 19, where Pikachu beat Brock, will be something like a 6-8 turn KO with Bind dealing 2 damage a hit. Raichu's base stats are just much better than Pikachu's. Bide is honestly the biggest hurdle.
I'm just waiting for the kraby run man. Literally my favorite pokemon, I can't wait. I love this series, I've watched almost every episode over the course of a month.
These videos mean so much to me man. It's weird, I only just started watching them about 6 months ago but these Gen1 Runs are such a relaxing, anti-anxiety chill time for me. Maybe it's the Canadian accent (I left Canada 10 years ago) and Gen 1 nostalgia, but dang man. Thanks so much, keep it up please!
I love how genuine all your videos are. Your commentary and battle analysis is catered to each and every Pokémon and their specific run and makes every video feel entirely unique. Awesome videos
jrose you probably won't see this, but thank you for your content. it really does make my day whenever i get a new vid from you, so thanks. you're awesome.
13:05 The sprite does disappear in gen 1 if I remember correctly, but it seems like battle animations are disabled. Keep up the great work Jrose, love your content!
He knows the animations are disabled. He always does that, because the run is faster that way His point was that in Gen 2 the Sprite always disappears (during moves like Dig or Fly), even with animations disabled. This is a nice feature, since it’s more visually obvious that your Pokémon is not vulnerable during that turn
Love the amount of videos recently Jrose, keep em coming can't get enough of these challenges and the mix of later generation games is a plus. Thank you sir 🙏
@@AvsJoe indeed, and from what everyone else is saying in the comments this is going to be a great pairing and do nothing but great things for the channel looking forward to more of this.
Hey Jrose, I never leave UA-cam comments. I’ve been subscribed for about 2 years and this is maybe the first video I’ve heard you ask for a sub/like/comment/etc. I discovered your channel while finding something to fall asleep to but quickly turned into something I didn’t want to miss and wanted to watch! I know for awhile you took a break for yourself and I want to say you really have been doing an excellent job on these last few videos. More than one video a month is impressive and greatly appreciated!
Rhydon has higher Attack, starts with Horn Attack and Stomp (Golem just gets Tackle) and can get Ice Beam & Thunderbolt in addition to Fire Blast. Golem just gets Fire Blast but its Special is a bit higher, but the main thing is Golem can badge boost and Rhydon can't - Golem starts with Defence Curl but Rhydon can't learn any stat raising moves other than Double Team. My money would be on Golem because Rhydon's better opening moves won't be that much better against Brock and they get Dig pretty early on anyway

Somewhere out there, Imported Cheese turns and feels a disturbance in the force about OOONNNNIIIX! Good work Jrose, you did well with Onix, probably better up till the Elite Four which who wouldn't level up up against multiple Water types and not saving between the lite Four too! Great job!
I love jrose and think he's amazing, but Scott's Thoughts has REALLY been stepping up his quality and consistency recently. His overlay pulls real-time stat data directly from his ROM now, and he does multiple runs per mon to get optimal consistency on strats. Not trying to compare the 2, just saying that if you like jrose, Scott's Thoughts is definitely worth giving a look for a bit of a different approach on the same subject matter. He's not just an imitator, he's found a lil niche of his own.
@@FranzPerez21 I’d love to check him out tbh. I meant no disrespect to other Pokémon content creators, just saying I like Jrose’s format for videos and consistency with the series. I’ll def check him out though. Thanks for the recommendation!
Luckily, they fill far different niches. Scott’s Thoughts is luckily not a competitor to JRose, so there is no reason to compare both except in how they do so. By which I mean Scott does his stuff far more systematically than JRose, but there is a fun in just doing it casually too.
It's interesting how the accuracy seems to play out. As a children, I found that using Thunder with my Jolteon basically never missed even though roughly one out of every 4 should, but in turn it seemed to miss damn near 100 percent of the time when using that move with Zapdos or any other Pokemon. Figured it was a trade off I was ok with tho, and just went with it.
After so many of these challenges I thought I would’ve lost interest eventually but to my surprise I still look forward to every one of these uploads. Keep up the good work and keep reminding people to sub, there is no shame in playing the UA-cam game.
i can't believe how well most of this run went, considering how onix has literally 40 base atk plus a huge weakness to any special move. i guess great stab moves plus good speed really carried here
Another fantastic run from my favourite UA-camr! I really thought Onix would be better but on the other hand it makes sense how the early game gave it a hard time. I think it’s safe to say you’ve perfected your craft when it comes to Gen 1. Excellent choice and as always I can’t wait for the next one!
I agree. He gives me a new perspective on each Pokémon he covers. I now see the true potential in all those (including you, Sunkern) and will be excited for that potential should I get my hands on said Pokémon. i.e., it'll help me make fun and good teams aside from what I'm used to using.
it was so weird to hear you doing the youtuber thing, because honestly, i'd never heard you do it before! but you do deserve every ounce of success you get from these videos because the amount of time and effort you put into making these first playthroughs feel very cinematic shows. it's always so nice to see when you've uploaded, because i know i'm honestly going to enjoy the content you put out. cheers, man!

I'm really happy that Jrose had been uploading more frequently. Your videos are top quality, I never get tired of watching them. Keep up the great work
The more I look at the three Rock and Ground type lines, the more apparent it is that Onix is just horrible. Higher defense doesn’t mean much when you have bad HP, and it’s special is as bad as Geodude and Ryhorn, but at least those two can evolve. All you’re left with is better speed, which you can’t really capitalize on. Poor Onix.
@@mysticmallachi777 Very true, Bind has its uses early game. But in a playthrough you don’t get Onix until Rock Tunnel so it isn’t useful from then on.
Rock Gyarados deserves so much better. It has decent speed and great defenses, but the shallow move pool (which isn't a surprise for gen 1) and it's less than stellar attack stat drags it down.
Yeah, Onix having had nearly half its base stat total (160/340 in gen 1) in one stat really left it with no stats to work with otherwise, hence the abysmal attack and HP.
holy crap I've been watching you for like a year now at least, and wasnt subbed til now! thanks for bringing the pleasure (and pain), these runs are a lot of fun!

Honestly, I actually like it when youtubers remind me to like or subscribe. Sometimes I just forget because I'm enjoying the video. At the end of the day, your channel's growth means you can make more content... Pay no attention to any whiners, they don't get it that nothing is actually free. Someone is always paying for it in one way or another.
Onix got gen 1ed since it was the boss pokemon of the first gym I am pretty sure it was heavy nerfed for it otherwise I think it would of been given a base stat total closer to something like gyrados.
Wow... Well that's ambitious Edit Not sure if it'd work but you could grind speed stat exp on route one to outspend Brock's onyx. In gen 1, if I remember correctly, you can box a pokemon in order to reapply stat exp without leveling up
He really prefers to avoid as many glitches as possible. You might guess he doesn't mind, given his liberal application of badge boost strat, but in tons of his videos, he goes on about how interaction with this particular glitch is unavoidable since so many enemies use debuffs, so he treats it as a feature, rather than an exploit. But if a glitch is voluntary/avoidable, he opts out. Definitely keeps things interesting.
Ah yes, the infamous 8.8m, 210kg rock snake, that has the same attack as a 0.3m, 1.8kg bird. This is probably one of the first cases where the 'Expectations vs Reality' meme could be applied to pokemon. Even among the other gen 1, non legendary, single stage pokemon, onix is probably the worst. Pokemon that had way more invested into defense than offense just always seemed kinda bad to me in the earlier games. Also, i'm kinda surprised you didn't make a snorlax run yet, considering its infamous status as a literal roadblock. Also thank you so much for your great content! I wish I thought of it earlier but since the start of this series I thought it would be awesome to transfer every pokemon to a transfer pak after each run and then do stadium runs (maybe making a party out of each tier). Everybody has their favorite pokemon and there's been a lot of surprising runs as well. I think it would've been an awesome way for everybody to cheer on their favorites from the series one last time. Either way, always love the content!

You can see the difference that stat experience makes in the musty fight. When he uses the 3 rare candies his hp was 70, after training yo get those levels it was 71, that’ll also carry through and get larger as his levels grow too
Onix is the most disrespected Pokemon of all time in terms of stats. 28 foot snake made of giant boulders but couldn't hurt a fly... I've been sad about this for literally 20 years.
Oh boy i was wondering about onix solo runs earlier today and here it is. Edit-- I think scyther will be a neat run, it doesnt have anything for ghosts in Red/Blue outside of bide and mimic, but it has swords dance hyper beam and auto crit slash
@Ace RK I don’t think that’s comparable. That Scyther started at level 30 with a good moveset and had a team backing it up in Lavender Tower, it basically skipped all the difficult parts. I predict Brock will be a roadblock in a solo run since Onix knows Bide and Scyther is one of those Pokémon you’re not supposed to have this early on, so it doesn’t learn anything other than Quick Attack until level 17.

Because it starts with Hydro Pump at level 1. If I'm not mistaken, the game won't consider the pre-evolutions. It was not a Magikarp which evolved, it has always been a Gyarados. For this reason, the Champ's Exeggutor knows only Barrage, Stomp and Hypnosis, although the Rival 6's Exeggcute knows also Solar Beam

I used Onix in a couple regular playthroughs and a nuzlocke and I remember it always being rather decent but terribly inaccurate. Onix is the mon I found out with that Rock Throw is only 65 accuracy in Gen1 and I tended to rely on Toxic + Bind to deal damage with it, because speed wasn't my concern. Lots of missing of course, but when it worked, it worked great.
I’m shocked that Onix was actually better than Geodude. I guess that extra Speed amounted to something after all, even if it hits like wet tissue paper and crumples to many of the special attacks of the mid and late game. Either way, it’s completely pitiful for a fully-evolved Pokémon, only Ditto is worse Edit: Accidentally said evolved when I meant fully-evolved lol
@@KainaX122 Even then, they're still wrong since it's not an evolved Pokemon anyway. It is a Pokemon that later evolves, but it's not an evolved Pokemon.
Lickitung is worse tbh. Rock/ground is actually one of the best types in gen 1 even with its crippling weaknesses. Lickitung is slow and severely outclassed by like every other normal mon. I would say onix isnt the worst fully evolved mon, but it got screwed over by play testing/balanced for early game. Since you know most people who test the games would be playing the early portion significantly moreso than the latter half.

It's been a while since I've played, but I believe the first elemental attacks learned by the starters aren't until around level 10 (I may be wrong, though).
Thank god for Steelix...

I'm very interested in this one. Onix is probably the worst case of a mon whose stats are waaaaay below expectations based in its design.
Bastiodon takes it for me
He has less attack than Pikachu and due to his low HP, hes not even all that bulky despite high defenses
@@ZzShy Even a better HP stat wouldn't save it thanks to no reliable recovery and a HORRENDOUS defensive typing
Plus 10 to HP to bastiodon with slack off would help a lot
I love onix and it makes me sad how bad it is
Problem with Onix is that it was designed as the first 'boss' Pokemon so it's stats reflect that.

@@jenningsslayer314 Ice is weak to rock, not the other way round. As rock doesn't resist ice, this makes it a 2x weakness.

I do agree Venasaur was the right pick for Onix's "hardest challenge". Blastoise has better defense but Venasaur has Razor Leaf, and Gyarados is a much more massive threat than Exeggutor.
Yep. Gyarados and Venusaur are better than Blastoise. Also, Blastoise isn't good until victory road
Blastoise also has a bad habit of just using Withdraw. Venusaur might use Solar Beam, but at least that'll attack on turn 2
Yeah Exeggutor has no way of harming Onix in the final battle. It's essentially a dead team slot there.
otoh venusaur is part poison so weak to ground
@@UnsoberIdiot Grass resists ground so Venu is neutral.
After watching a few of these, I definitely prefer ones in later generations due to more interesting strategies being implemented but my personal favorite thing about Gen 1 is just getting to see the badge boost in action.
36:03 "I don't know if I can count on that"
Surprisingly enough, you can.
I had no idea, need to study the AI more I guess. Thanks for letting me know!
The trainers with Good AI had a similar modification than in Gen I with the following exceptions:
-If a Pokemon it's weak to one type and resist the other now the AI considers that move as neutral.

There's no good reason it doesn't have 60 base Atk though
Onix seems to have been designed exclusively to be a raidboss for the first gym in the series, having very high defense and speed and a normal resist to make it seem scary, pitiful attack to give the player time to take it down, and an exploitable typing to reward new players for engaging with the matchup system
Like a lot of things in gen 1 it was made to fill a role in the game and didn't have much consideration past that, such as whether the player would want to use it by the time they get it
Steelix made it a real Pokémon in the very next gen thankfully
@@wes2287 It's also surprisingly strong in Gen II as well for all the same reasons, as well as the fact that it dunks on every Rocket Trainer in the game and you get Dig TM in both Gen I and II super early.
That your commentary stays so enthusiastic is such an achievement and the only reason people can watch this many vids of the same game.
It be like that
Yeah, that type combination does not do it justice 😂

I love Muk! He's a badass!
@@jameshasbeenjammin Did you know that Onix spelled backwards is Xine?

On the topic of Rock/Ground types, I think a race between Golem and Rhydon would be kinda interesting to see.

It's interesting how the accuracy seems to play out. Poor Onix.
Bind might be the only redeeming thing about it in these early games... Kinda need to move first to abuse it, so speed isn't entirely wasted.

Nice Ludwig and Qtcinderella reference! Also, thank you for all of the amazing content!
Wow... Well that's ambitious
Edit
Not sure if it'd work but you could grind speed stat exp on route one to outspend Brock's onyx.
I'm really a huge fan of how you've elected to deal with commentary w.r.t. the badge boost glitch, very nicely done
I see this run is off to a... rocky start.
I'll see myself out.
Remember Rocky the Onix from Gen 2?
My mood always increases when i see a new upload from you.

I think it would've been an awesome way for everybody to cheer on their favorites from the series one last time. Either way, always love the content!
Grayscale how perfect! Love it as always :D
I love how regularly you upload videos, Jrose! Keep up the great work :)!
Honestly - keep up the ‘like and subscribe’ reminders - I’ve watched a ton of your videos and keep forgetting to subscribe because they just pop up as suggested videos. Finally subscribed today…mostly because of the puns 😜
I feel the same way that’s why I’m going through and interacting with a lot of the comments to help @Jrose11 “Comment Interactions” stat. I’m bout to Ctrl-C + Ctrl-V the **** out dis. That was my attempt at imitating cool people. JK JK I’m already cool.

Makes my day when there's a new Jrose video! Love your content man, your commentary and analysis are top tier.
Edit-- I think scyther will be a neat run, it doesnt have anything for ghosts in Red/Blue outside of bide and mimic, but it has swords dance hyper beam and auto crit slash
he has a vid that uses scyther, its one of his challenge runs
@Ace RK
I don’t think that’s comparable.
@@rainpooper7088 that's fair
That Hydro Pump miss from Lance was a real clutch victory.

18:23 Funny enough, even at lv 23, Rival 4's Gyarados actually does know Hydro Pump.
@@matteorenzulli1070 yeah you're right. It would make sense that itd have Hydro at an early level, forgot it at some point during the level up learnset, and relearned it later on.
To be real with you I'm so bad about never liking or subscribing, and you're never asking for it so to me it was mostly just a reminder and I appreciate it. Been binging your vids for a while now, it's about time I subbed lol
Waiting on that Electabuzz/Magmar run. Another great vid. You rock man.
I’m shocked that Onix was actually better than Geodude. I guess that extra Speed amounted to something after all, even if it hits like wet tissue paper and crumples to many of the special attacks of the mid and late game. Either way, it’s completely pitiful for a fully-evolved Pokémon, only Ditto is worse
Edit: Accidentally said evolved when I meant fully-evolved lol
It's not evolved, it just doesn't evolve at all in this game.
@@Snipergod1024 yeah, this was Gen 1 when it was still a single-stage pokemon
@@KainaX122 Even then, they're still wrong since it's not an evolved Pokemon anyway. It is a Pokemon that later evolves, but it's not an evolved Pokemon.
Meant to say fully-evolved oops
Lickitung is worse tbh. Rock/ground is actually one of the best types in gen 1 even with its crippling weaknesses. Lickitung is slow and severely outclassed by like every other normal mon. I would say onix isnt the worst fully evolved mon, but it got screwed over by play testing/balanced for early game. Since you know most people who test the games would be playing the early portion significantly moreso than the latter half.
Onix is strong, so I didn't doubt its capability to pull through. Honestly, I was expecting another worm's ordeal this time around.
