didn't know how sever arachnophobia can be. But i witnessed it first hand with my friend. I got him into wow but he seriously cant look at any spider in game, he avoided the Nerubian fiends in ghost lands. He gets spooked with the normal spiders as well, so hopefully he tries the expansion with this feature.
all the human/spider hybrid models which probably creep ppl with real arachnophobia more than just spiders arent replaced, tested in game out of curiosity :) regarding desert, swamp, snow etc crabs? they feed my weird sense of humor actually, but yea they are so absurdly misplaced, can creep out a fair amount of ppl too im sure, + some can be scared of crabs more than spiders . and just as a joke, the webpage about the feature compares both versions next to a vulpera character, what if someone has a "furry uwu" phobia and want them replaced by something less spooky, like rat-men from ninja turtles, whimsyshire evil teddy bears or something similar? :p but yea its not a real accessibility feature, more an excuse of one. i would rather want them take out dragonriding (skyriding sorry :p) from dungeons and raids forever, its supposed to be just faster way of flying now, right you can choose not to use at all? we arent even in any dragon expansion anymore. but hey, we have dawnbreaker that is literally worse than both nokhud AND tindral together and so awfully 3D it will be many ppl's worst nightmare, even if you "only" have absolutely terrible space/map orientation like me, there are ppl with actual poor eyesight, for whom the 3D aspect will be really problematic, saw someone mention that already. but ofc ( very selective) replacement of spider models is more important :p
adding something like this is a great idea but the crabs are not the optimal solution because like you said, they still creep around with their legs and arms and their weird eyes
for me its imagining what it would be like being a spider that freaks me out and we have all these nightmare organisms skittering around living in the shadows and weaving webs. Imagine having 4 eyes and 8 spear legs moving all at once. i dont have arachnophobia though
Wow does not have real-looking graphics to warrant this and take up space on my computer for a setting I will never use lol That could have been an addon. We could have seen how many people would have actually downloaded an arachnophobia addon
Can’t decide if a hoard of underground spiders or crabs actually terrify me more. Not sure it’s an improvement lol
I wonder if it changes the way the spider mounts look (the gold sink and the PvP one come to mind), because those look even creepier than the NPCs
