Had a large tree come down in a storm last week. Got my Stihl Chainsaw out, prayed it would crank, it did and I started working, cutting the tree. Cut about half and stopped for the night. Next day saw will not start. Pulled the cord so much if it had started I was done. Got mad went to Lowes and purchased the EGO 18in Saw, and it was on sale. Thought I would be disappointed with the power of cuts but I was WRONG. I love this saw. Paid almost as much for an extra battery as I did for the saw, battery and charger. Never thought I would see the day a battery could run a chainsaw and do a great job. That time is definitely here.
Bought my EGO 18" a few weeks ago. Absolutely loving it. I got so tired of fighting with gas saws seemingly always out of tune, not running right, won't start, won't idle, etc. Not to mention dealing with 2 cycle fuel and the ear killing noise. In fire season we can't even use gas saws in this country for danger of starting fires. This EGO saw is powerful, simple and quiet, no risk of exhaust sparks and no fuel to deal with. I was stunned how well it sliced through the 14" or so dia. trees I've done so far. As a property owner type user, I'm sure I'll never buy another gas saw.
I have the entire line of ego equipment, the tree trimming pole saw is insane. I just bought this saw a month ago and felled a very large tree next to home with it. This thing is a beast! I gave up on gas three years ago. The the Ego power head line is perfect and I highly recommend it.
What's amazing is that the cells are the same thing as we had in our modded flashlights >7 years ago, the industry is just finally dripping them over into tools with brushless motors. What's ironic is that the toys--R/C cars that is--will show you right now what your tools will be lucky to use in 10 years! The motors and batteries in current tools were being surpassed by the motors and batteries in R/C cars and trucks over 10 years ago. Right now the R/C stuff is using graphene lithium polymer packs that put out hundreds of amps of burst current and fully charge in under 10 minutes, while the tools are lucky to pull 25-30A and charge their packs in under an hour. Technically anyone skilled in R/C could build more powerful tools than the makers just by altering the packs which power them, as a start. In fact it's quite easy to do. I was running ~22V DeWalt tools well before they even had a 20V line!

I recently bought the EGO 16 inch chainsaw, along with a bunch of other EGO yard tools. I've been using their lawn mower for a few years, and I'm blown away by how well designed their tools are.
I’ve owned a Tesla for 8 months, converted to Ego electric for all of my home tools, and plan to buy a Tesla Cybertruck. Electric life is GREAT, dang near zero maintenance, always ready to go. Highly recommend the Ego brand. Their tools are bulletproof and nutso powerful.
You can't beat that saw, it paid it's self off in the first job. Power is amazing, battery life impressed the heck out of me. And I got it during a promotion at my local ace and got gloves, hat and a carrying case. And my battery ran out before I ran out of oil
Ok update: I am very glad for the in depth review. This chainsaw has supreme power from the start. On one charge I destroyed a 25ft apple tree and other things and could still have kept goin. I do recommend an internal cleaning afyer each use. Just remove the tension cover. Thanks for the review!
I have the ego leaf blower and it's been going for about 3 years now. Fantastic tool. I then last year tired the ego string trimmer and it was nothing but problems.
I’ve got an EGO two battery 56V lawnmower. It is very light easy to use and does a real good job. I tried out 1 battery on my yard. I got 90% done on my 5,000 sq foot yard before it ran out of charge. Really glad I opted for the twin battery system. This chainsaw runs like I expected [already familiar with their lawnmower]. This will be the next tool in my EGO arsenal. By the way, all EGO batteries fit ALL of its products. So I can use the batteries I got with my lawnmower on this chainsaw. I think that was really forward thinking and AWESOME 👏…
I have the EGO blower, hedge trimmer and string trimmer. I can’t say enough about how satisfied I am with them. They are all top quality and as good as any gas powered I’ve ever used. The chain saw is next. However I do understand that the chain saw and mower take a larger amp Hr battery then the other lawn tools. Still using same charger and interchangeable with other tools. My old vacuums just died. I wonder?
I got the 650 cfm blower and the multi-head tool with weed trimmer and edger. So far everything works beautifully and I'm so glad I went with EGO vs other brands I was cross shopping. Just really solid performing tools. Battery life has been fantastic. I'd get the chainsaw in a heartbeat.
I purchased the 18 inch ego to help my daughter and son in law clean thier lot at their new home. I have used chain saws for over twenty years. I was worry that it would not have the power to do the job. First cut the ego is fantastic!!! I will never use a gas saw again.
Just got an ego chainsaw and plan on using it on camping trips. Much easier than a loud gas one that would annoy the whole valley of campers It is a great option for those not making their living or cutting a winters worth of wood. But just the occasional small jobs. Also have the ego lawn mower snow blower and trimmer all work great and so much less maintenance than gas equals. Never going back to gas if I can help it
I have an EGO mower I bought two years ago. Still my favorite mower I’ve ever owned. I’m going to switch all my tools to EGO when my current stuff dies out
Same here..I've bought an ego blower.impressed..chainsaw is next on list..After years of hard to start two stroke tools that's it for me..ego battery is way to go..
It was nice that you showed the temp of the battery while charging. This battery system does not get hot while charging especially compared to other brands even with the fast charger. That is very good for the cells. Closer spot readings and ambient temps would have demonstrated that even better.
Awesome chainsaw, I got one not long ago and cut up some big limbs that had fallen during a storm. I dumped all gas, have the lawnmower, weed eater, chainsaw, so far it has been great.
Yes, I would consider using a battery operated chainsaw. I am an enthusiast. I have around a dozen battery operated saws. From 6" up to 24". They are all a riot to run. The big 24" one almost jumps out of your hands when it kicks into high speed. I have two CS1800s, one of them wears a 20" bar. Keeps me busy in my twilight years.
I have been wanting the Milwaukee M18 chain saw but I have considered the Ego because of the price difference. I have a fairly new Stihl gas saw but the noise and constant starting problems are a pain. I think these battery saws would also be good for professional tree trimmers as a second saw for those short and quick cuts or quiet areas like hospitals.
For those looking to get this, I highly recommend the fast charger that comes with the Mower. I bought a reconditioned Mower with a brand new battery and faster charger for $400 and then got a 14inch chainsaw for $199. The chainsaw came with a 2.5ah battery and it charged 100% on the fast charger in 20 minutes from empty. The mower came with a 7.5ah battery that can be used in the Chainsaw! The 7.5ah charges in about an hour. Ego is just an amazing product because of the way they setup any battery to work in any product they make!
I purchased a 16" bar chainsaw and it was a revelation to experience the capability and user-friendliness it provided. Mine is not the new and improved either! Chain adjustment requires no wrenches or screwdrivers and has the older brush motor but it led to my ownership of a weed trimmer 👍 , blower 👍, and walk-behind mower 👍. Btw, I have 500+ lineal feet of weed trimming and I can get more than half of it done with one 2.5a/h battery. It goes from full to empty and I put the battery on the standard charger and it charges, immediately, in 45 minutes! The batteries shed heat, not hold it!
I hear so many good things about the EGO powerline. I don't own any EGO tools. I am a die hard Milwaukee fan. So I really enjoy my Milwaukee chainsaw, but I would love to see TTR on chainsaws!
This saw is definitely better than the 14/16 ego chainsaw as far as power and run time. I have both models. Only complaint is the stock ego chains don't take many resharpening rounds before it wears down and needs replacing. The regular chainsaw on my gas saw seems to last longer and take more rounds of sharpening.
Looks pretty freekin smooth!!! I've had a Stihl saw for years but honestly I've been looking at buying a battery saw after watching some videos and reviews of them. They look pretty awesome. Great video!!!...... Ordered a Hat and Shirt off you guys over the weekend...can't wait for them to show up so I can rock them to work and represent the Very Cool Gang!!!
Yo! My dude.. I have gotta get me one of those.. I have an 18" craftman that I hate, it takes too much effort to start it by the time I get it started I'm to tired to do any cuts
Battery power would be nice but if you're going to be cutting quit a few hours your going to have to invest in a few extra batteries and that is pretty costly. I can go all day with a five gallon gas can.
2 batteries and raid charger will get the job done, for years! No gas, oil, carb, fumes, tune ups, maintenance, etc. Instant torque, no fighting to start it, easy tensioning, quiter (no earplugs needed), LED light to allow for late night cutting after a storm... it's literally a no brainer... Higher up front cost but pays for itself times over in the long term...
Pretty descent. I like the fact that it is battery operated and has a cooling operation. Thanks again for the info. In the process of starting my channel as well.
I have the 56V 16” EGO cordless saw. Find it bit on the heavy side and not as well balanced for prolonged cutting. Guess I will still keep my gas powered chainsaw as a backup. Average homeowner and ex rancher.
I have the ego 56v brushless 14" chainsaw and love it. They make a carrying bag for the chainsaw but it will only hold the 14" & 16". You should try out the ego 56v brushless power handle and there attachments then string trimmer attachment is awesome and will increase rpms when cutting through thick tuff weeds.
I love my Harbor Freight Lynxx saw. Only get about 40minutes straight cutting on one battery, but it's enough. I can limb 1-3 trees while my dad cuts the trunks. ALSO battery is sooo much safer, it's quiet when you're done with each cut, and I think it stops quicker too. I'll have to check out that saw's light? though...
I hope the CS 1804 hold up better than my CS 1600. Two seasons of cutting firewood, it stopped dead.. The saw cut great, charged fast and battery lasted for bucking and limboing entire pickup loads of wood on one charge. Problem is the saw didn’t hold up. After an hour on the he phone.trying to get a rep found out I can’t get warranty cause I lost the receipt. Rep would not tell me where I could get it repaired without processing warranty. Can’t process warranty without the receipt. Bought the saw cause I had the mower, blower and trimmer.
Ego's notorious for battery failures and problems. My battery lasted ONE year with 4-5 charges. I see them new on Amazon for $140.00 !! Although I do like the chainsaw, the battery problems out-weigh all the benefits. I'll be looking at a different brand now.
Yo I was just looking at this online yesterday! I have the ego leaf blower and two batteries. I'm a huge fan of their products! It's a no-brainer. Thanks for the video confirmation!
Is it possible to use this saw to slab logs to boards using other assessories becoming sort of a chainsaw mill? Convenient in that case to use it directly in the forest. Perhaps battery driven chainsaws don't have enough strength and runtime for that application as of yet.
Chainsaw 199, 10a 56 volt battery is 449 at ace right now, I thought my makita was pricey but I got 4 5ah 18 volt batteries and a charger(Home Depot 2/17/21) the ego looks good but I wanted to buy into a brand and landed in Makita because of the chainsaw kit, I have a monster mesquite tree, constant maintenance
ego batteries actually usually last up to 45 to 90 minutes (depending the size of the battery you use) stihl battery usually lasts only 40-45 minutes at most. I know cause me and a buddy of mine tested it (he has a stihl and i have the ego) mine kept going and his died half way.
I'm currently testing an Ego 22" chainsaw with a 76 link full-comp full-chisel chain, 7.5Ah battery + larger drive sprocket, and aftermarket 14S ESC, and it absolutely destroys the 18" model. It's got more torque than most 60cc gas saws from what I can tell, so long as it's charged! But, you can't buy mine in any store yet, sorry to say.
The 16" Ego vs the 16" Milwaukee, I used both multiple times and ended up going with the Ego. More power, better price, better performance - the only downfall of the Ego would be that it isn't balanced as well. Ego is killing it in the Outdoor Power Equipment game. I'm amazed by the power their 21" push mower has too. I took that thing through 7 inches of tall, thick, damp grass and it's like it laughed at my yard. Didn't skip a beat! I'm loving their backpack blower. The thing is a GD beast and I don't feel like an asshole when I used it anytime during the early morning or late evening because it's so quiet. I'd love to get my hands on their new power head and a few attachments...hopefully sooner than later! Keep up the great reviews guys. Red tools in the house and garage, but Ego rules the Yard.
I have one. You can install this 5.0 Battery in one of the 4 slots...as well as the 7.5 and/or the 2.5. . in the other 3. The advantage of the generator, it charges at a slower rate than the single..which is better for battery life.
I bought one from Amazon on November 8th. I had to send it back for a replacement. Got the replacement on November 27th. Sending replacement back today for full refund. A cut which should have been 5 seconds took me 20 minutes. Ego customer support is useless if you are within 30 days of your purchase date. Your only option is to return it.
That sucks. What was the issue? Severely dulled blade which shouldnt really be possible on new equipment. I got one from ACE a few months ago and I have been cutting like crazy. I love it and it cuts through pretty quickly.
Picked one up yesterday and unfortunately the chain came off and bend,... not sure what happened yet contacted EGO. I do have to agree that this thing cuts effortlessly and is a joy to work with! I think I just got unlucky 😅😁
Sometime I feel like EGO is gonna be like the apple of the lawn equipment world. Innovate at first and than after awhile other manufacturers will pass them up.
Now compare it to Greenworks 80v 18" chainsaw. I own the original model, bought it 4-5 years ago, still works like new, love it. Best part? I use canola oil as chain oil and it works great!
The tech has come very far and I like my little DeWalt 20V chainsaw (its so cute) for small stuff around the home but for any bigger task you are hard pressed to pry my 30 year old Stihl gas saw out of my hands.
I have the baby Ego Saw along with the blower, hedger, pole pruning saw and brush cutter This 18” saw is next Awesome machines and great battery and fast charging system.
An excellent insightful review. Reknown tool experts claim that the EGO 18 ich Chainsaw is the best overall electric battery powered Chainsaw to date. I've been looking in this EGO18 inch and a bunch of other 18 inch Battery Chainsaws such as ; Lowes Cobalt , Snapper, Sun Joe, Green Works, Atlas etc. From what I see the EGO 18 incher is the best. According to tool expert authorities. The EGO 18 incher looks to be the overall best battery Chainsaw to date. Which is said to be even superior to even the Green Works Commercial 18 incher or the Atlas 18 incher. Your ending is very creatively done! Way to go Wishing you Safe Journeys.
Impressive ! I just purchased the ego 2135sc mower this weekend and love it. It comes with a 7.5 amp battery. I’m looking to buy more ego-tools. Great video.I just subscribed.
Now, if they just had a whole line of products that would use the same battery. Chervon also makes Kobalt. I have an 80v Kobalt blower that is awesome; the battery doesn't look any bigger than your 56v Ego. Just noticed a 40v Skil chainsaw video (also Chervon.) Would interchangeable batteries be too much to ask for? Thanks, as always for great content!
Oblique Perspective umm yes it’s too much to ask. Just because they are made by Chervon doesn’t mean they are the same. Do you think Milwaukee would make their tools compatible with the ryobi batteries? Kobolt, Ego and Skil are all different voltages, platforms and brands so of course they will be different. Dumbest question ever!
I bought the e go blower. Im 71 now. I wish they invented this back when I was 30. Im also buying the chainsaw. I only have great thongs to saw about the blower. Cant wait for the saw
I have the harbor freight Lynxx and for the money i paid for it (130 on coupon) you just cannot beat it. Plus it comes with an oregon bar and chain. Id like to see you put the EGO and Lynxx together for a head to head duel.
One question, please. In all my years of running a gas chain saw, I never had any doubt that enough oil was getting on the chain. I just bought an Ego 18" saw, but I'm not sure it's lubricating the chain enough. I get some oil splatter, but not quite as much as shown in your video. Any thoughts? Thank you. --SP
Yeah I got the 14inch to saw up roots in my yard from a pine tree. The roots were big as the tree but the Ego made short work of them. It took me 2 months to completely remove the roots but only because I had to dig them outta the yard and saw them out of the ground. Only issue I had was, learning when the chain heated up to re-tension it. It came off once and I learned to put it back on. Since then, 0 issues!
Nice video! Any idea if I can switch out the chain bar of the CS1800 to the shorter chain bar (16")? I like the more powerful motor on the 18" chainsaw, but not the extra length
Yeah, that is what I thought also. I went with the 16". Cuts really nice, cheaper than the 18". Yeah no doubt the 18" will cut better and faster, but most of us don't need it
Would love to see a full report on battery life. How many cuts through X" diameter log of Y wood before the battery is dead? At least for this saw, but even better would be a comparison against other manufacturers, including Stihl and Husqvarna battery-powered models. In the video you say the battery drops a bar (out of five) after "just a few cuts". Even if that's a half-dozen cuts, that's only 30 cuts on a battery, or maybe 10-15 minutes of run time. Way less than a tank of gas for a gas-powered saw, and of course gas cans are WAY less expensive than Li-ion batteries (especially the EGO batteries)! I would love to switch to electric chainsaw, but based on my experience with other battery-powered tools, it's hard to see how a battery-powered chainsaw is going to work out for any but the quickest jobs. If you're going to be out in the woods for a couple of hours or more, it doesn't seem practical.
I already have the EGO blowers for about 3 years and am very satisfied. I just ordered this 18" cs1804 kit today. Is the trigger variable speed? Seems it's cheaper to get the kit including the 5.0 amp/hr battery and slower charger than purchase each item separately even though I already have 2 slow chargers. So, I also ordered their 100 dollar rapid charger. Who needs a slower charger anyway 🤔😂 My question is whether it's ok to move a battery being charged in one of my slow chargers directly into the fast charger, before it's done charging, to finish up the charge process faster once the fast charger is freed up from charging a different battery. I'm going to call EGO tech support tomorrow again to find out. They are very supportive and friendly at EGO. Also, is there a way to adjust the flow of bar oil? Also, I'd like to see you show us how to change the chain. Thanks for your video! 👍🏼

Battery power would be nice but if you're going to be cutting quit a few hours your going to have to invest in a few extra batteries and that is pretty costly. I can go all day with a five gallon gas can.
Russ Mess Was thinking the same thing Lol
2 batteries and raid charger will get the job done, for years! No gas, oil, carb, fumes, tune ups, maintenance, etc. Instant torque, no fighting to start it, easy tensioning, quiter (no earplugs needed), LED light to allow for late night cutting after a storm... it's literally a no brainer...
Higher up front cost but pays for itself times over in the long term...
I own Ego trimmer, and lawn mower. They are really fantastic👌 I am definitely getting their new snow blower, as well leaf blower
Pretty descent. I like the fact that it is battery operated and has a cooling operation. Thanks again for the info. In the process of starting my channel as well.
Just got mine ! Fun to work with for sure
I have just bought one, and I love it
With how rarely I need to do any chainsaw work I would definitely go battery powered for the same reasons you mentioned.
Thanks for simple tips here and there that can make a big difference.
Please compare this to Milwaukee
Makita chainsaw would be a nice review too. Thanks for showing us the Ego. It looks like a decent saw. Thanks again!
What up String Bean? Thanks for the feedback!!
@@VCGConstruction nothing much just been busy doing my yard work and house cleaning.
Love the profile pic man
I love my Harbor Freight Lynxx saw.
Great info as always! I like my chainsaws like I like my men, low maintenance!
🤣🤣 how I like my women!! 🤣🤣
@@VCGConstruction where to you find low maintenance women? lol
Have you noticed the bar gets piping hot because the chain tensioner overtightens
Things are awesome I’ve had mine for 2years now and it’s handled some hawgs
Good looking saw. Wonder if it cuts faster than the Stihl battery operated?
I was shocked at how fast it cut.
ego batteries actually usually last up to 45 to 90 minutes (depending the size of the battery you use) stihl battery usually lasts only 40-45 minutes at most. I know cause me and a buddy of mine tested it (he has a stihl and i have the ego) mine kept going and his died half way.
Good video vince good demonstration and information very nice Chain Saw
Thank you Antonio!
Thanks for the oiling tip.
I just picked up the leaf blower pretty sure that saw is next but I’ll always have my husqvarna for backup
I bought one last week, it's a great little saw. Very happy with it.
I think it's worth buying than a gas chainsaw if you prefer maintenance-free and a quite engine
Doesn’t EGO have a whole generator type setup they have with their batteries or am I thinking of someone else ??
youre correct, im pretty sure it can hold 4 batteries to act as a generator
I have one. You can install this 5.0 Battery in one of the 4 slots...as well as the 7.5 and/or the 2.5. . in the other 3. The advantage of the generator, it charges at a slower rate than the single..which is better for battery life.
Great video. Very impressive chainsaw. I’m going to buy one tomorrow!
I wonder how it would go on dry seasoned Australian Hardwood? He seems to be cutting green timber which is easy to cut.
I want to see the chain tension mechanism.. Lets see a tear down. I bet this saw has some production cost saving secrets.
The tech has come very far and I like my little DeWalt 20V chainsaw (its so cute) for small stuff around the home but for any bigger task you are hard pressed to pry my 30 year old Stihl gas saw out of my hands.
I'm surprised you didn't go Milwaukee. I've seen comparisons that the Milwaukee chainsaw is better than the ego. Would love to see what you think.
Excellent video my good man👌🏾
This vs the Milwaukee my man which would you recommend over the other??
This vs Milwaukee and I also wonder about the Atlas?
Side note: 2:39. What brand is that thermal temp gun and where do you get it? Thanks.
I have the baby Ego Saw along with the blower, hedger, pole pruning saw and brush cutter
This 18” saw is next
Awesome machines and great battery and fast charging system.
An excellent insightful review.
Reknown tool experts claim that the
EGO 18 ich Chainsaw is the best overall electric battery powered Chainsaw to date.
That looks like a great saw! Awesome it runs on a battery 🔋 cuts very quickly
CONGRATS TO VCG ON 220,000 SUBSCRIBERS !!! 👍👍
Thanks Brian!
Woo hoo half way to a million! My math may be off just a bit
@@maxb.6974 umm...yeah...i would say so 😂
Just curious, but why did you just cut straight through that one tree at 1:50 into the video when you had made your notch cuts an inch above?
The tensioning is a really big deal. Got rid of my last because of the hassel.
Yah. Im sure the cut ok. But the sound that you get from a electric battery saw is something to get use to
Yes I’ve got the dewalt 60v chain saw and I love it
My chain keeps on coming off... I have it tightened.. as soon as I turn it on its side it comes off
Impressive !
I also love my EGO blower as well as the wee eater. Also have the 16" EGO chainsaw. You will love the chainsaw. So much more convenient than using gas
Thank you. --SP
Loving all my Egos. Thanks for a great review on the 18in. I own a 14in. Time for an upgrade. 👍👍
Nice saw seems quite powerfull that but I like the makita 36volt brushless chainsaw more
Was looking for this comment, just bought one 😄
I'm tore between the ego or the Milwaukee chainsaw
I got a lawnmower and edger and trimmer and I love them.. I defenectly going yo buy the blower..
Can you please do a video of cutting down and chipping all that stuff
have a blower and a hedge trimmer , works great , chainsaw next on the list
Darn, you turn your back on Vince and he done turned into a lumberjack. All he needs now is a big blue Ox. :)
🤣🤣👍🏻
