I can tell you EXACTLY WHY THEY HAVE THE LIGHT, I live in Florida, a few Years ago a Hurricane Hit, and I needed to get to the Hospital but there were limbs down and I couldn't even get out of my Driveway and had to cut some limbs in half to drag them, I WAS SO GRATEFUL THAT EGO HAD THE FORSITE TO ADD A LIGHT 👏👏👏👍👍👍
I purchased this model and I have had gas saws for years now. I would definitely recommend this saw. Today I was cutting up some oak trees that came down from a recent wind storm here in Ohio and atleast 16" in diameter and I was very impressed with the performance and life of the battery. I was tired of messing with gas and oil and the issue of pulling and pulling to get gas saws running!! It's worth buying and very easy to operate.
I have had this saw for 12 months now. Best chain saw I have ever owned, and I have owned quite a few. I am in Australia, and our timber is in general much harder than timber found in the US. Cutting iron bark gum over the weekend, and it goes through that hard wood like butter, when the chain is really sharp. I do not push the saw down, I just let the weight of the saw do the pushing. I have sold all my other motor saws, (3) and will just keep this one. I cut almost a ton of hard wood gum up on Sunday and used only one battery charge. Not pushing the saw the battery lasts a long long time. You will be delighted with this magic saw.
My 40v 14 inch bar Baumr ag is comparable to my husky petrol saw in fact with a good Oregon or similar chain on redgum it's not faster but way easier to use and less fatigue etc . I'm a petrol person who's been converted. But don't buy 20v for Aussie hardwood 40v and up..✌️
Florida Man Uses Chainsaw in Shorts. 110 = Average number of stitches from a chainsaw accident. This saw rocks. I bent the bar, bent it back, and it takes all types of abuse. Tips: Bring two batteries on big jobs during hot days so you can alternate in case they get hot. Also I sharpen the chain after a battery’s worth of use. This ensures efficient use of the second battery too. Before the first cut of the day, run it for a minute or until oil flicks off the tip of the bar down on the ground. This will ensure proper lubrication for ironically longer battery run time, and less wear on the system. Just do not forget to refill the oil reservoir every time you go through about a battery-worth of cutting big trees. The oil will last a couple of batteries but the risk of premature wear may not be worth it.
Incredible saw. I couldn't get my gas saw to start for the last time and hit the Google for alternatives. I am SOLD on this machine. I cut and cleaned a stand of 37 4" to 12" poplars over 3 days, cutting the trunks to 16" logs and I couldn't stall it. When my leaf blower dies... no more gas for me.
Came here to ask / suggest if this was the case - I have a few of the Ego garden tools (mower, hedge trimmer) and I notice especially with the mower, when it's a heavy cut, or I'm mulching, if I take it slow and allow it to operate at peak rpm, it lasts a lot longer. If I push hard and race through, the dial plummets! Same with my EV come to think.... Electric's going to chill out the planet man! :) Let's just cruise...
I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.
I have a story similar to many others. Large tree falls in my yard after a Hurricane. I get out my trusted Still Chain saw to clean up the mess, but I can't get it to crank, so off to the repair shop, got it running great. Bring it back home and works fine for a few minutes then shuts off. Will not restart. Fight, fight, fight to no avail, Never believed in Battery Chain saw. Bought it mostly to prove it was a bad investment once and for all. This EGO CS1800 proved me wrong. I am sold. I have not pulled the cord on my still for about three years and I am sure I can still get good money for it as it is a quality Gas/Oil Saw that many still want. As for me I have moved on. I also have the weed eater head, Extension Pole saw, and also have the blower. Pleased with each. Might put my Still Chain Saw in the Local Museum at some point.
Bought it last month to use for bucking oak firewood up in Michigan. So far after 3 full cord(not ricks) it’s performing very well. A few 20”+ diameter didn’t faze it. I love the ego line of products. We have the big blower, trimmer and lawnmower.
@Shop Tool Review. The light is amazing for when you take this out on the trails when you go UTV/ATV. You don't have to bring extra gas and it fits in the storage box on the back of the ATV/UTV. Run the trails, run into a log, You can pull this out and clear the path and keep going.
Great review. Hit the high points well. Liked the inset video running simultaneous to the discussion, saves time. Good honest commentary. Thank you, well done!
I bought the Ego 24" snow blower with 7.5ah batteries for my home in the woods, and after 6 snowstorms, I'm loving it. I am now looking into other Ego products. Thanks for the review.
Sadly, three of my EGO batteries failed within a year. EGO changed the brand of cell inside these batteries and since then the reliability has declined. As much as I loved my EGO tools, they are of little use if batteries fail. It wasn't my charger as I tried a new charger at my reseller shop and they told me quite a few customers were complaining about EGO batteries failing. I really appreciated their honesty. I ended up selling my EGO chainsaw and mower cheaply and gave away my line trimmer to a community garden group. It was just too stressful dealing with EGO Australia. I've switched to another brand with no issues at all for many months. 🙏
Great review ! I've owned a string trimmer and blower for 3 years now love them both bought the hedge trimmer last fall for clean up before winter that thing blew me away .... My mother in law had a limb about the same as your video go down last week I decided ok I'll try the chain saw I figured I'd buy the 14" but once I held the 18" for some reason it seemed like a better deal being brushless and all ..... The saw blew me away ! My second and third cuts i felt that cut-out once I realized I was forcing the saw to cut when the dang thing will just eat wood ! Funniest part was seeing a. 73 year old woman act like a little kid oh I wanna try .... It was a good time thanks to the saw EGO nailed it
This is an awesome story, and thank you for sharing. I hope you let her pull the trigger a few times. ;) You're exactly right, once you realize where that cutout happens, you can keep just firm pressure and the EGO will chew through some wood, and quickly. For a cordless saw, it does a great job. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
Great review man! I've been looking into these saws recently, and this is easily the most useful review piece that I've seen. Also you seem like a terrific fella, so thank you!
I can get plenty of use from that headlight. Sun goes down around 5:30 pm during mid winter here in Northeast Ohio. Sometimes it's dark by the time I get home from work and there is still work to be done around the house.
I have this saw and I believe your first battery may have just needed a cool down as I have been able to cut a full hardwood tree around the size of that portion you cut down. My strategy is after making long hard cut I'll work on limbs then back to the trunk giving the saw a rest so to speak. Its definitely not a gas saw but it works great, is much more enjoyable to use and my new go to if I'm not cutting large amounts of wood. Worked great for lot clearing when only cutting trees into 8ft sections.
This saw works very well. I intentionally pushed it pretty hard, as hard as possible (including stalling it several times), during these first 10-11 cuts in the big stuff. The battery may have had some life left in it after it cooled off, but not much. I wanted to use real-world characteristics in the testing, so I just reached for another battery. I don't hold anything against the EGO for needing a 2nd battery, but it was worth noting. I've tested scores of cordless chainsaws, and All of them would have used up at least one battery in that first section. My other point was that if you're just limbing, or cutting smaller stuff, just one battery will last you a long time. Thanks for watching and for taking time to comment.
Excellent review!! One of the best of any kind that I’ve seen in a while. I just purchased the 16” ego 1604. If I had seen this sooner it may have pushed me to the 18”, mainly for the higher rpm motor, the auto tensioner and the head light that would come in handy for late evening or emergency night work. I went with the 16” mainly because it’s big enough for my needs and I wasn’t sure if I could use the 16”bar with the auto tensioner. Btw the 04’s come with the battery and charger the 00’s do not. The only critique I have is that with any chainsaw gas or electric, if you have a sharp chain and let the chainsaw do the work bogging down should not be an issue.
Battery chainsaws rpm is much higher then gas...so only go with the recommended chain, which have more cutting links then gas...you will get more vibration with gas chainsaw chain on an Battery chainsaw
You might even be able to just get a replacement EGO 18" bar and chain and swap it in. Both are pretty cheap at Lowes. Assuming it's the same motor. I was thinking I probably switch to their smaller bar if I wanted. Not 100% sure though.
I have mixed feeling about this chainsaw. It cuts great. Maintenance can be an issue though. After I removed the cover a few times to clean the chain, it became really challenging to put it back on properly without leaving any gaps between the main body of the chain and the cover or overtightening the chain. Just one screw here controls both cover locking and tightening and chain tensioning -- a major design flaw! It is often a nightmare to put the cover back on without overtightening the chain, or without leaving any gaps (which otherwise sometimes leads to a quick accumulation of sawdust under the cover and frequent jamming of the chainsaw, requiring to take the cover off again).
Excellent, informative video. Picked up the 18” today. Works very well. Pleasantly surprised how well it worked. Had to refer to your video to check the way to adjust the chain tension. Very different from the old gas oil saws.
I've found once you have tightened the side cover up enough so the bar isn't flopping around the chain is all ready way to tight. I have to leave the cover loose so the chain is at the right adjustment. By leaving it like that the bar wobbles side to side. Also its a very small chain and bar for a 18" not a bad saw if you live in the city and need a few pieces of fire wood. If your going to cut any amount of wood buy a real saw.
I put a wider chain on mine and it gives me more freedom on bigger trees in the 18-24” diameter range. As long as I keep the chain sharp, it cuts great. Try the PFERS 2-in-1 sharpener in size 5/32 / 4.0mm.
And I have to say not tightening the chain all the way is a recipe for disaster. Make sure the chain is oiled by running it for a minute or two before the first cut.
I have just got a lend of this chainsaw of my local dealer because my petrol chainsaw is having problems and getting fixed, All I can say is bye-bye petrol chainsaw hello ego ❤ it's more than enough for what I needed for. Brilliant piece of and I can cut in the dark 😂😂
This seems like it would be perfect for firefighters. I remember seeing a video of a house fire response with a ff pulling and pulling on the saw to get it going to get on the roof and get a vent hole in it. These will start up when they need to. No gasoline or oil to deal with or cause risk and batteries can be changed out quickly. And they have lights.
Bought one about 6 months ago. Great for small jobs but not enough power to get through bigger trees. Battery does last a good amount of time. Wishing I had stepped up to a larger Stihl saw.
It's definitely not a replacement for a someone that's cutting trees all the time. But for the typical homeowner that's trimming or has to do some storm cleanup, it's a much easier option. Thanks for watching.
I have the mower and the battery charges in 20 mins. With 2 batteries, you you a good 5 min break every 40 mins to drink some water and catch a breath. Its great.
I just got this chainsaw, I cut one log and it did great. The very next cut I had a hard time cutting though, I was perplexed. I took the bar and chain off and try to clean it with brush. Yes, I did put in oil before I started before anyone ask's. Any pointers you can give me to get the blade cutting normal again? I cleaned it, it's oiled, it's "brand new".
Mine has worked for over a year and has cut about 4 cords of fire wood with zero problems, so my only guess is they must have given you a dull blade? 🤔🤔
just bought one of these after wasting an afternoon trying to get my old Poulan to run. Man so nice and quite, you done even really need ear protection! Will be nice when it's been sitting on a shelf for months not to have to take more time to get the saw running than it takes to cut up the wood!
Great in depth video. Thank you, i knew i wanted the 18 to accompany my poulan pro 58v 16" now i know it is a good choice. A for the light think emergency services!
Ok, I had just written a detailed review about how disappointed I am with this saw as it does not dig in and cut through the wood like it shows in this video. Yeah, I had the chain on backwards! lol Seems to work great!! Tip to any newbies, I thought I had chain and oil set up correctly so maybe I missed it, but I caught it in the troubleshooting section of the manual, as it can fit either way so can be deceiving... Off to cut down the height on my thick, overgrown hedges!
I wish all EGO Batteries came with battery gauge, only 5 Amps and up come with gauge, I have the 18" chainsaw , good chainsaw , must say,not many battery saws can beat it!
I’ve got the 16 inch, the blower, hedge trimmer, and weed eater. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I’m upgrading to the 18 inch saw. I used to make fun of people that wouldn’t use gas powered saws. Bunch of tree hugging beta males. Well, I’m sold on ego. No loud noises. No mixing gas. and they just get the job done......without all the noise.
Yes, EGO is doing great with battery powered OPE. I agree, there was a time when battery powered lawn tools and saws were not worth the powder to blow them up. The tide has definitely shifted. For the typical homeowner trimming and even for typical storm cleanup, it's hard to beat a good battery powered saw like the EGO. You'll love the 18". Thanks for watching
the solution to solve every issue with gas chainsaws is to keep them clean and always put in the amount of fuel you need to do the job and run the chainsaw till you use up all the fuel in the tank and put it away empty.
Just bought one . The battery is charging for the first time. Almost charged. Ready to get to work . 5ah battery. The charger is the same as the ego weed eater. The weed eater battery is a 2.5ah. My ego lawnmower battery is a 5ah but it's bigger than the chainsaw. Even the charger is bigger. Should I be using the bigger charger for the chainsaw battery. Everything is supposed to be interchangeable
Thanks! I’m headed out to use mine for the first time on some 20’ long 12” pine boughs dropped across my driveway by the storm. We’ll see how the auto tensioning goes and how it feels to me. I haven’t used a chainsaw in ten years, my husband used to do it all. 🙏👍💪🏻
Good, wood have been excellent but for no leg protection! I’ve seen some mishaps and if it weren’t for the safety equipment being worn by the operator they could have been fatal? People tend to think just because it’s electric not making noise,BUT here you’re demonstrating just how powerful they are just as deadly as there petroleum/gas equals! .even half a day on the safe use and handling, one in particular the hand brake nothing to do with leaving saw on a slope.I’m one of the lucky ones who retired from work on the railroad track it was quite a tough and hard environment to work in ,I’ve got quite a collection of saws now gonna get myself a cordless there are loads of situations were you will be better off work near fish ponds ,bird cages, live stock, noise sensitive, close in areas,,,HAPPY FELLING but be careful no one wandering into your work area, it’s obviously the noise that keeps people AWAY.
Think about a storm rolling through in the middle of the night and you have some downed trees needing taken care of in an emergency situation. Now the lights become invaluable.
My chain jumps the sprocket and can't get it to tighten up the chain following all the instructions. So frustrating. This is the second unit I have had. EGO sent me a new unit and still have the same problems.
Thanks for the review...I'm looking at this for cutting firewood..it is just battery life that worries me....with a current deal we can get Chainsaw + Blower + 3 x 5 amp batteries for $1400 Australian..do you think 3 x 5 amp batteries would fill a 6 x 4 foot trailer with firewood?
@@schlexpeditionsreviews4703 Thanks. I ended up buying the chainsaw and made a video myself on the battery life over here and how I got on cutting a load of firewood. ua-cam.com/video/Sm6cQH15aVo/v-deo.html
Thinking of buying one just to have a second 5.0 battery for my select cut and a BONUS chainsaw! Lol The only thing holding me back is my 16" Echo still runs perfectly and has a full kerf chain.......but it's the only 2 stroke tool I haven't replaced with Ego yet! 🤣
I run 12" and 20" Echo's, great saws. I've had an EGO trimmer so I just got this 18" EGO. I was actually looking for the 16" but since this is springtime all I could find was the 18". Good to see this positive review.
Nice review. I got me one and will be cutting some tree limbs tomorrow. I was curious about how much oil it would use. Doesn't sound like much from what you described. Thanks.
As tight as the cover will go(and it sounds different when tightening now), the chain is still loose. Used to be ok. Clean holes, oil flowing free. tried two chains same thing. Can't see in the hole to check if thread is stripped though. Any ideas?
I had the 18-in after returning the 16 inch because the oiler mechanism was failing. I ended up returning the 18-inch because the oiling system on it too was lacking and to note it absolutely did leak all over. It's a shame I'm still in the market for a chainsaw LOL
I have the 16 and 18 inch saws. Neither of them put out enough oil; even after tank holes are debris free. The 18" bar overheated while cutting extremely hard wood. Otherwise, both saws work very well. The 16" is very close in performance to the 18"
Before the first cut, run on high for about a minute until oil flicks off the tip unto the ground. A well-oiled bar should not overheat if the chain is sharp. Try the PFERS 2-in-1 sharpener in size 5/32 / 4.0mm.
I got this exact model a little over a year ago and really loved it till just a couple of days ago. All of a sudden it stopped working. The battery is full, but the trigger doesn't do anything. And the light doesn't turn on. I guess I need to look into warranty or some sort of repair. Already found some UA-cam videos on repairing that exact issue with trigger, so I guess, I am not the only one. But I don't want to give up on it yet. Any suggestions of what to look for if I try to DIY repair it?
...I have been using an Ego 14 inch chainsaw with a 56v battery. the performance I've been getting out of it has been hopeless - very poor indeed. It struggles to cut through even a couple of 10inch logs and then the battery runs out - not lasting more than 20 minutes. Are the comments below complete lies or is there something wrong with the chainsaw I'm using - thoughts please?
Not familiar with the14" model; but I have two of these 1800s; and I think they're great! The only modifications I've made are to put a full chisel chain on it, and run the 7.5ah battery. I need a rest before the battery is exhausted!
Great review. I just bought the 16 inch ego and after watching your review I may change it out for the 18 in. It looks like they've made some good changes. One question I have is the 5 amp battery generation 3
It seems to me that, to get the performance you want out of these Ego tools, you have to get the top model of the product line. I have their “flagship” mower and it works well, but I certainly wouldn’t have been happy with LESS power and battery life. Same goes with the leaf blower.
This is pretty typical of any chainsaw. While we have had a few chainsaws that initially Don't leak, after a few uses they all seem to leak. Sorry for the mess. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews I'm not talking about a little normal leak, I'm talking about a puddle. Alot of guys buy electric chainsaws to put in the back of their SXS here, so there is no mess with gas/oil. This thing is terrible.
Great job. Love your enthusiasm and will subscribe. You know your stuff and then some. Nice of you to cut up the neighbor's tree. How much time did you spend? I did the same- by me, except I did the chipping. Spent 5 hours and he didn't offer to help(?) In this case, nary a thank you, whereas others show much more gratitude. But I believe if you go in to Pay it Forward do not expect anything in return, otherwise just don't do it. You've obviously had better luck with your saw than I've had. Although out of the box my saw did perform very well, except for relatively slow ramp-up speed. Again, what type and size of chains do you buy? You mentioned it but are you sure (had numerous blade issues)? BTW, Ego will not reveal their 'secret' chain dimensions and Oregon does not list Ego on their packaging. Ego shamelessly tries to protect their proprietary chain sales (which is an Oregon product by the way.) Ego is a conscience-less self-absorbed Chinese company. Why? For example: Why did #1 Home Depot pull Ego's products? Futile negotiations with the behemoth bunglers. I've tried many blades as I cut a lot of lots. And I continue to have cutting issues with the Ego, and I am a maintenance freak. Time to pull out the Stihl! And should one have problems with your small engines consult UA-cam goddess of small engine repair, Chickanic, or Steves Small Engine Repair. Both are excellent and this fella is the same caliber. Changing blades? As far as chain rotation, a good mental image for proper chain rotation is Santa's Sleigh. Yes, that's right. The chain's depth gauge (has a curved leading edge-google it) and that is the front of the sleigh, which is followed by a space and then the cutter. Santa sits in the space although I've never seen him there. Santa's sleigh does not fly backward so observe the rotation image on the bar and if there isn't one think of water flowing over Niagra Falls (top of the blade moving away from the motor and over and down and the blade's leading edge aka tip.) Also, be careful of the new Chinese blade sharpener that is touted on youtube by a lot of 'entrepreneurs(?)'. It clamps on the chain bar and you spin a sharpening stone. People selling and touting these are soulless shills who paid pennies on the dollars and rave about the product. I'm another idiot who fell for their sales pitch but when I got it I couldn't believe the misclaims and pathetic quality. Steer clear. Chain tension: Tighten it to where pulling on it and it will give a bit and produce a 'thwack'. But, I've found you should run the saw and typically it loosens and you'll need to tighten up a bit. And another thing, be very aware of Ego's quasi-customer support. Or should I say none existent. Seems they suffer from an inflated...ego. They are poorly trained script-readers who definitely do NOT believe in the adage, that the Customer is always right even when they're not and will put you through their obligatory softball, inane questions, and procedures. I have 19 Ego products and a battery that failed (They're super expensive, especially the 7.5's and above.) They wanted serial numbers on all my products, photos, videos, and receipts, and after... 1 1/2 years of their terrible correspondence, they said a battery had been delivered-IT HAD NOT-and they said they could no longer track the shipment so I was out of luck. FUBAR. I then wrote corporate in Georgia and...no reply. In essence, they played a little elapsed-time shell game. Nevertheless, I got back at them and went and bought a new device, swapped batteries, and returned. All-in-all Ego was and is a NO GO. Seeking a new brand. Lastly, I called to get the correct dimensions on their Chainsaw Blade and they wouldn't give it to me, they claimed I had to use their chain or I'd void the warranty. Huh? They just want to sell only their proprietary chains and want to keep the dimensions secret??? The last trimmer I bought had been opened and of course, the battery and manuals had been stolen. Lowes said to contact Ego. Wrote ego (lowercase) 3x's and... No response. Thumbs way down.
I noticed the chain gets too tight when adjusting that tensioner. And the bar still wiggles up and down. Is that normal or am I not adjusting things right
Hmmm, that doesn't sound quite right. It will definitely tighten up initially, but once your pull the trigger a couple of times, it should be right. Correct tension is to pull on the chain at the middle of the bar. You should be able to the see the bottom of the guides, but you shouldn't have a gap between the guides and the bar. Also, the bar may have a little more movement than a traditional bar, but not much. It's definitely not going to be as secure as a Stihl or Husq with double studs and nuts. Thanks for watching.
@6:00 My ego chainsaw leaks… year round. I still love it though. (Actually surfing UA-cam trying to find a solution to the leakage it’s been going on far too long).
@@John-cj3ve I wish I could find the cause. Been suspecting maybe it’s a crack in the reservoir. I’ve got mine in a trash bag, sitting in the little bit of bar and chain oil that leaked out over the last year.
That chain is too tight. Maybe they did something different, but it should be loose enough to pull away, but tight enough to snap back. Great review. I’m still thinking between this Ego and the Echo 56v saws.
I have this saw for over a year and a half and have cut about 4 cords of fire wood, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone that cuts firewood, branches, or small trees that you don't need a 36" bar for. I would also recommend the Ego chainsaw over the Echo because you can get into the "Ego Family" of tools as ALL of their tools the same 56v batteries so you can usually buy a 5ah battery and charger with a tool at the price of getting the tool for free. Ego even has 2 zero turn mowers that use these batteries a 42" and a 52". I love their chainsaw, blower, and weedeater. I bought my pops an Ego pole saw and he loves it. I will buy me and him all their tools so when I buy the zero turn I will have plenty of batteries to cut the 4-6hrs of trim cutting for our 8 acres.

It's actually rotten pine. Lol. It will make a ton of cuts in smaller stuff. Larger limbs of course have exponentially more area to cut. Thanks for watching.
I have several EGO products, including the 16" chain saw. I like it a lot, BUT!! Don't make the mistake of getting it caught in a cut where it stalls the chain. I have two neighbors that bought these saws on my recommendation. They are not real "saw savvy" and they got the chains stuck. In both cases the saw quit working and could not be repaired. It seems there is something inside that shuts it down when it detects an overload, and that is a good thing I suppose. But it does not allow it to come back. Both neighbors are now without saws. I took one of them apart to see if there was anything I could indentify to repair the problem. There is not, if you break it ,your done. An expensive lesson.
Can't say I like that auto chain adjuster, it looked like mine when you tried to pull the tension on the chain, a bit too tight! I didn't see that "1/4 inch . . " ok I broke the law and used a generic .050 3/8 chain but my first time replacing it, ran it tight like what happens when you tighten that knob, and it started smoking out of the housing after a few cuts, (cooked sawdust!) not sure if this is a oiler malfunction or what, off to Home Depot to get a new eGo bar & chain, the first one cut like mad, just like the video preview! So if you back of the knob the chain will loosen? Seems M I C K E . . . . (mouse!) plenty of oil in the tank, no manual oiler buttons . . .
That is the drawback, there really is no chain "adjustment." The tension is preset by the large know. As you tighten the large green knob, the 'ramp' on the backside of the knob tensions the bar/chain, then further tightening only clamps the bar in place. To retention, you back off the knob a couple of turns and retighten. We've not had any problem with cooking the chain from lack of oil. The auto-oiler has worked very well. As a Pro's perspective, I would love to see dual studs and nuts as well instead of the knob; however, I know that EGO is targeting this to the homeowner. A manual oiler is also another Pro feature. If you back off the knob, this will not adjust the chain; it will just release everything...if that makes sense. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews I think it was my fault, I tried to run a Y62 chain as I had several new ones and it seems like I 'burned out' the new chain due to the high speed of this saw? I got a Oregon S62 and it seems great again, is this 'Narro Kerf' characteristic of the 'S' chains vs. 'Y'?

Thanks I'm thinking of getting this one due to having ego equiptment. And my back won't let me use the heavy chainsaws.

This saw rocks. I bent the bar, bent it back, and it takes all types of abuse.
Tips:
Bring two batteries on big jobs during hot days so you can alternate in case they get hot.
Also keep in mind bogging electric really pulls the amperage. So when cutting big stuff while not pushing will give you much better life
Came here to ask / suggest if this was the case - I have a few of the Ego garden tools (mower, hedge trimmer) and I notice especially with the mower, when it's a heavy cut, or I'm mulching, if I take it slow and allow it to operate at peak rpm, it lasts a lot longer.
Very true.....The light was almost enough to get me to order one then and now!!! LOL
Location: Central Maine, USA.
Love my new Ego 18" chainsaw! I'm obsessed and it just made my time cutting wood more enjoyable!
I’ve not heard of any battery cell quality changes in the USA. Sorry you had this experience; I’m quite happy w/my EGO gear.
Excellent review, supports my research on EGO tools. I certainly plan on purchasing this chainsaw. Thanks!
So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
I've had this saw for a while now, and I've cut a ton of wood with it, including a huge silver maple, and it always does great! No issues for me.
Excellent video! You are the only video on this saw who shows bar removal and also deciphers chain speed. Subscribed!
Thank you very much for the kind words and for the sub.
Well Done! I was unsure as to how to adjust tension on chain. It looked a little tight to me, but you must know the correct tension. Thanks John
Excellent, informative video. Picked up the 18” today. Works very well. Pleasantly surprised how well it worked. Had to refer to your video to check the way to adjust the chain tension. Very different from the old gas oil saws.
I've had one for two years now, toally reliable and I've cut an awful lot of wood with it, kerf chain cuts well.
Shop tool………true. The best thing about it is that it starts every time and the battery lasts a long time.
I have the mower and the battery charges in 20 mins. With 2 batteries, you you a good 5 min break every 40 mins to drink some water and catch a breath. Its great.
Brilliant review many thanks indeed and God bless you with a great week
16:08 This reminds of a thing I read about pizzas. An 18 in pizza is more than 2 12 in pizzas. It seems counter intuitive but the math checks out
I just got this chainsaw, I cut one log and it did great.
I just ordered this saw to replace an aging ryobi 16in gas.
Great in depth video. Thank you, i knew i wanted the 18 to accompany my poulan pro 58v 16" now i know it is a good choice. A for the light think emergency services!
Very welcome. I appreciate the kind words and the affirmation. I think you'll be very happy with the EGO. Thanks for watching.
The headlight is a super handy thing to have. I've used it a lot
That's awesome. Thanks for watching.
A self defense chainsaw. I hadn't thought of that.
A couple of reviews on Amazon noted that oil does leak if you set it upright. One reviewer said if you set it upside down, it won't leak.
Interesting. Ours still doesn't leak. Every other chainsaw we have does, but the EGO does not. Thanks for watching.
@@ShoptoolreviewsNeither one of mine leaks either.
Did you sharpen chain at all during the large oak tree cutting?
I am planning to get one for same reasons, to have in emergencies. Just got the EGO mower with the 10AH battery, so, should have plenty battery power!
Think about a storm rolling through in the middle of the night and you have some downed trees needing taken care of in an emergency situation. Now the lights become invaluable.
Now how do I charge that battery? Power is out lol.
@@BeefNEggs057generator or battery backup unit.
Chain is super tight
I like the EGO platform of tools. I'm gonna make one of those stubby blowers
Yes, they are really good tools and very powerful. Thanks for watching.
My chain jumps the sprocket and can't get it to tighten up the chain following all the instructions. So frustrating. This is the second unit I have had. EGO sent me a new unit and still have the same problems.
I own one and its awesome but the no oil is misleading you have to have oil in the chain oiler reservoir
No. I got through two 8’ logs in one battery.
Yes.. you recharge the spent battery while using the next one. Could almost be fine with only two batteries this way, three is more than you'll need
@@schlexpeditionsreviews4703 Thanks. I ended up buying the chainsaw and made a video myself on the battery life over here and how I got on cutting a load of firewood. ua-cam.com/video/Sm6cQH15aVo/v-deo.html
Awesome review, very professional, thanks a bunch, bought one!
Thinking of buying one just to have a second 5.0 battery for my select cut and a BONUS chainsaw! Lol
The only thing holding me back is my 16" Echo still runs perfectly and has a full kerf chain.......but it's the only 2 stroke tool I haven't replaced with Ego yet! 🤣
I run 12" and 20" Echo's, great saws. I've had an EGO trimmer so I just got this 18" EGO. I was actually looking for the 16" but since this is springtime all I could find was the 18". Good to see this positive review.
I bought one.
I'm certain the 5 Amp hour battery wasn't fully charged. I've cut lots of wood and still have plenty of charge
Thanks for watching.
They send the battery at half charge it’s not good for the battery to sit in storage at 100 percent
Any ideas?
So are you saying it’s better than the milwaukee saw ?
I JUST USED MINE FOR THE FIRST TIME AND AM NOT GETTING ANY OIL TO THE CHAIN?
I cannot turn the auto tensioner but my chain is still loose, any suggestions
Excellent review, subscribed!
Awesome, thank you! I truly appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
I had the 18-in after returning the 16 inch because the oiler mechanism was failing.
I ended up returning the 18-inch because the oiling system on it too was lacking and to note it absolutely did leak all over. It's a shame I'm still in the market for a chainsaw LOL
When leather face doesn’t want to annoy the neighbours...
Thanks for the video! Very informative and helpful. Real well done too.
Perfect Chain Saw for Country People or outer Suburb People with Neighbors!
This is a great chainsaw. Use it once, and anyone will understand. Thanks for watching and commenting.
"Up north they use snowblowers for snowblowing". 🤣 Yeah, we are odd like that.
Do you know how to replace the Chain Sprocket?
A great review and great presentation
Thanks for watching.
Well now that was an interesting video and I have always been skeptic of battery powered chainsaws but this one does look like it has some promise.
It works great David,,I love my ego yard tools and power station
It's pretty impressive for a battery powered chainsaw. Thanks for watching.
@Shoptoolreviews it's pretty impressive period!
I'm looking forward to the next Texas Chainsaw movie.
Sounded like the chasing was dragging really bad ?
I had mine for a year and just realized it has a light lol
Great review. I just bought the 16 inch ego and after watching your review I may change it out for the 18 in. It looks like they've made some good changes. One question I have is the 5 amp battery generation 3
check the rpm difference. 18" is like 11k, 16" is much less.
@@_--Ghost--_ thanks, I ended up buying the 18 in and I am very happy with it
It seems to me that, to get the performance you want out of these Ego tools, you have to get the top model of the product line. I have their “flagship” mower and it works well, but I certainly wouldn’t have been happy with LESS power and battery life. Same goes with the leaf blower.
Just won one of these. Leaks bar oil just sitting there. Can anyone help me. Called company, they said to empty the bar oil after every use.

Yes everything

Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Does it come with the 5.0 amp battery or the 7.5 amp battery?
Great video!!!
Nicely done video.
Great review
This might be a stupid question but, can you run a 14 inch bar on this model?
Yes, you can run a smaller 14" bar and chain on this unit as well. Thanks for watching.
Do you have to grease the bar in the hole at the top of the bar before the first use?
There must be a fix. Neither of my 1800s leak.
I have this saw for over a year and a half and have cut about 4 cords of fire wood, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone that cuts firewood, branches, or small trees that you don't need a 36" bar for. Bigger surface area yes its called pie R 2
Cake are squared. Pie are round. (Sorry. Old joke.)
You reccomend the ego or Milwaukee saw ?
That's a great question. These saws are neck and neck. I would recommend whichever platform that you may already have batteries and chargers.
@@Shoptoolreviews I have both platforms. This case is one better then other. I’m a homeowner
300 Cuts claim is of a 4x4 balsa?
It's actually rotten pine. Lol. It will make a ton of cuts in smaller stuff. Larger limbs of course have exponentially more area to cut. Thanks for watching.
Does any other 18” electric chain saw have a heavier or thicker chain than the E-go
Most of the battery powered chainsaws have thin-kerf chains, but I'm not entirely sure if any run a full-size chain.
Have a ego weed eater the power is comparable to gas has the power I trimmed my hole lawn on full charge
@@Shoptoolreviews there is actually an manual adjustment screw on the by the bar on the inside front of the saw body.
when they drop a 55cc ill buy.
They have since dropped TWO of them!
Could we put a 10A battery in it ?
Yes
