Fun Story: So my dad works in manufacturing for Pepsi, and sometimes we get products before they're released in stores. One of the things I got to try was Crystal Pepsi, and honestly it wasn't bad. I've also tried the mango habanero Pepsi, Mountain Dew VooDew, and other things like that.
Anything on Pepsi Fire? Am I probably the only one who absolutely wants that back or any truly spicy soda? I ran outta my stockpile of cans a couple years ago and I crave the hot cinnamon cola where I’d be happy to pay $6 per 12 pack cuz it tasted so good
@@PinkPenPlays I honestly don't know if they're going to bring it back. I haven't seen any since it came out. However, I can say that I enjoyed it as well.
@@littlesongbird1 Crystal Pepsi wasn't really my thing. Granted I haven't had it since my dad brought it back home in 2013 or 2015 (I'm not exactly sure). He said they were giving it out to employee families to see how it tasted and I wasn't a fan personally.
I don't know how many people were lucky enough to try Crystal Pepsi, but they had a limited production run in 2019. I picked up a case and It was actually really good. Light and fruity, easy on the palate, and a little bit more carbonated than their regular Pepsi. If you get the chance to try it, you have nothing to lose. Edit: oh wow, thanks for all the likes everybody! That's totally rad! I really appreciate you guys for your honnest opinions.
Yeah I like crystal pepsi as well. If im not mistaken it was also out at 2018, as I remember there being another limited run of it when I was working at a dollar store. I hate regular pepsi, but crystal is good imo
@@jeffreymanier0 yeah that sounds about right. Pretty sure they started production and shipping in 2018 and had it on all shelves at the beginning of 2019. I'm still keeping my eyes out for a can of Pepsi Nitro but it's starting to seem more like a unicorn every single day. I'm Canadian so that might have something to do with it
@@thejayman1886 I have, and it’s definitely… interesting to say the least lol. Its a bit too sweet for my taste, and personally i prefer pepsi products, but I like that coke is still trying new things. It isnt bad, just overly sweet for my tastes
the ultimate problem with Pumpkin SPICE everything is that way too many people who don't know that it's meant to be just the spice mixture that goes into/on pumpkin pies instead of pumpkin and spice, so you'll get massive errors like, "pumpkin flavored M&Ms," and "The original Pumpkin Spice Latte contained no pumpkin".
I'm liking the cartoon stuff taking a backseat while you discuss more interesting topics about fast food and junk food. I'm curious to see if there's more on the way.
The idea of chocolate-covered chips being this strange and disturbing thing is so foreign to me- there's a local chocolate brand and a local chip brand in my hometown that collaborate to release chocolate-covered chips every Christmas, and they are so good. Edit: I'm really enjoying everyone trying to guess my local brands- nobody's got it so far, though.
The first time I had a chocolate dipped potato chip changed my life. I had it at a family dinner where my Dad had set up a chocolate fountain since chocolate covered chips are really uncommon to find in stores in the US. I never understood why they're such taboo either, other than them being unhealthy, but if people would just try them I think that most would probably enjoy them.
The lays chocolate covered potato chips were an S Tier junk food, they had a crazy amount of chocolate and the salt from the chips really complemented it all. Miss these
I actually made them myself when I heard of them. By the time I discovered them they weren't being sold anymore, so I took some Hershey's chocolate, melted it, and dipped some Lay's Wavy chips into it. Then we put them in the fridge to set. My mom and I shared them and we agreed it was the best thing we ever tasted. And being a huge chocolate fan, I can't wait to make them again. I think I'll show Dad how to make them sometime, when I go to see him.
13:00 For that spicy trend - a lot of snacks in Mexico do trend towards spicy as well as sweet, and can be found in pretty much every corner shop. Some of them are pretty good.
that entry really reminded me of when dunkin' had ghost pepper donuts, I remember trying one because someone brought them into work but it honestly felt like a fever dream. not gonna lie, I didn't hate it though.
"Junk food is popular because it's convenient, it's cheap, and it tastes good. But the real cost of eating Junk food never appears on the menu" - Ronald McDonald
You are basically junk food for the comment section. You may be appealing for MOST people, but ultimately show no nutritional value, or any value in that matter.
Swoops were pretty good. The problem was there wasn’t enough of em. Plus their containers didn’t lend well for the grocery stores, they’d always get broken/crushed. I always remember seeing them at Walmart all broken… then 6 months later at Dollarama
Honestly as a coffee fan, I remembering being incredibly underwhelmed by Blak Cola? It just tasted like flatter, more bitter Cola. But I'm actually pretty fond of the new kinds they've put out, so I have a feeling they must have taken it back to the drawing board and tweaked the formula enough to make it actually... y'know... palatable. That said, it's still horrible health-wise and probably a one way trip to stomach ulcers, so. EDIT: a thought; Lay's would be a lot more successful with their chocolate covered chips if it were something like drizzling or stripes, a la Keebler's Fudge Stripes perhaps.
I'd be interested to see you make a Discontinued Sodas list, Strider, you'd have a lot to pick from. One of my favorite flavors of Mountain Dew was discontinued, that was Mtn Dew Ice. It was a more crisp and fresher lemonade taste to the original, and a bit less acidic too. I think it was launched in Summer 2018 and I really enjoyed the taste. But for some reason after 2019 and especially once the Pandemic hit, I saw Mtn Dew Ice less and less until I found out it was discontinued. Apparently, despite how hard they pushed the marketing in North America, no one really like the taste I suppose. It seems like Mtn Dew Ice is only now sold in India of all places, and it's white instead of clear.
Strawberry KitKats are delicious. I wish we had them here in the US. I would say the same for the matcha KitKats, but those are easier to find here. World Market has them as well as a few other international food stores. I've also tried a raspberry KitKat before. I don't like raspberries, so I wasn't a fan of it, but I feel like people who do like raspberries would enjoy them.
For some context, sweet and spicy candy are a usual thing here in Mexico regarding candy. There is this chili/apricot flavor we call chamoy and it is a common flavor of a lot of stuff you would not even imagine. We also have some good tamarind candy.
One of the best things about living near the Mexico border is that you can find great Mexican candy and food. I never take that for granted. Real Mexican food is absolutely amazing!
when they remade crystal pepsi, i tried it and i surprisingly really enjoyed it. not something i’d get all the time but i could see myself buying more if it was back on shelves.
I preferred it to regular Pepsi, honestly. I’m not sure if I was buying into the marketing, but I swear it tasted more citrusy than the regular Pepsi does.
I loved the taste of Crystal Pepsi when it first came out, and thankfully here in Canada, Pepsi here is now bringing it out nearly every summer on limited seasonal releases, which I'm grateful for, as I tend to buy it by the case load when it does.
Crystal Pepsi was just barely before my time... I formed a secondhand opinion about it based on folks' demonization of it. Then I found out about the only thing changed that had any bearing on the experience was that it wasn't brown. That folks would freak out so much at the idea of a cola that looks like water when they'd happily drink Sprite or unconvincing 'fruit drinks' colored like hydraulic fluids seems absolutely brain-dead. On a cola label's short list of ingredients, which I figure everyone must read at least once if only out of boredom, there's always one ingredient that's memorably plainspoken and simple in name-- 'caramel coloring'. That's an explicit admission the brown color is just for show!
Two things I gotta mention: Spicy chocolate (and for that matter, sweets) have been around for as long as candy has existed. The earliest known version of it goes as far back as 1900 B.C in Mexico. Also, bubblegum flavored sodas are actually pretty popular in the US. My local store sells bubblegum flavored sodas and they usually taste pretty good.
The new Coke with Coffee is actually decent. Maybe they cut back on the coffee taste because the new stuff is more Coke forward with a noticeable but not overpowering coffee aftertaste.
I saw that on the shelves and was talking to the owner of my local grocery store. He said he had it on the shelves for 2 weeks and hasn't sold 4 cans yet. Unfortunately, coke BLAK permanently tainted the potental of all nee coke+coffee products. Like they say, first impressions are everything.
@@chenstormstout9456 you may be one of the only retailers that's actually managing to sell the stuff. I haven't even seen anybody talking about it online.
I love the fact that you went from talking about cartoons only to expanding to other things! Big respect, Strider! I’m glad you’re having a great time talking about various different topics! Extremely enjoyable :)
I actually tried the Hubba Bubba soda YEARS ago when it first came out. It tasted just like the Hubba Bubba bubble gum. And of course, the drink was carbonated. It wasn't bad at all.
Big Red is still a huge thing in Kansas and other states. It does taste like bubblegum. I don’t consider that a cream soda. I had no idea there was a Hubba Bubba soda. I immediately thought of Big Red when I saw bubblegum soda being mentioned.
For those of you who wanted to try lays wavy chocolate-covered chips, the Japanese brand Calbee sells very similar chips. 😀 I had the lays variant once, I felt they were decent but overpriced.
Strider, you should try Mexican candy. It's a combination of sweetness and spiciness. There is even spicy chocolate since spicy chocolate drinks exist back in the Mayan and Aztec days.
Its kinda weird seeing all these crazy mixtures of candies. Idk who thought it was a good idea to mix coke and coffee but I do feel bad for the pumpkin spice M&Ms because it seems like that had a lot of potential.
I actually mixed coffee and coke together one time because I thought it would be good. It tasted like motor oil boiled with vinegar. One of the worst things I've ever put onto my taste buds.
Golden Oreo's are actually pretty good and I often eat them as snack. Personally I find them to be a pretty standard cookie, and are definitely not something out there or weird like Watermelon Oreos. I wouldn't call them bizarre as while they may be different kind of cookie from normal Oreos, I've had cookies that tasted similar to Golden Oreos.
My go to type of Oreo is double stuf golden Oreos. They are definitely the number 2 most popular type of Oreo judging by how much they stock at the stores. Regular stuf Oreos, golden or not, is too much dry cookie with too little cream.
Don't know If already discontinued but, I'd like to know his opinion on the two Pepsi flavors released a good while back. Pepsi blank cherry and cream soda.
My friends and I went nuts over Crystal Pepsi when LA Beast, who my friend was a big fan of at the time, helped meme it back into existence. We would actively hunt down and stock up on it in the hopes that the retailers would make note of it and maybe pass the word along to Pepsi that it was selling well. But, alas, we had one glorious, clear moment to enjoy our transparent sugar water
As some who actually tried the sweet heat skittles, I gotta say they were actually surprisingly good, it tasted like a normal skittle then the after taste is where you could taste/feel the spice.
I remember trying them too! They were a halloween exclusive where I lived. Honestly, as a kid I found them totally disgusting and struggled to get through the pack. My brother was quite appalled by them as well. For me, the spice just did not mesh well with the sweet skittles, it was like they had just added spice with no afterthought. Though, it’s really interesting now to see that these were actually pretty positively reviewed, dunno if I’d give them another shot though xp
14:30 The gum soda reminded me of Inca Kola, which got real popular in Peru. It tastes like bubble gum or like a cream soda. You can find it in Central/South American restaurants in the US.
Ayy I remember Hershey Swoops from when I was a kid. They were honestly really great the issue was the fact that you didn’t get anywhere near enough per container. Only like 5 or 6 each which didn’t last long enough to be satisfying, especially since the whole design was to make them look like Pringle’s chips which are often eaten in mass like you said in the video.
I recall tasting Swoops before, and they taste really good. It's a shame it's discontinued. Perhaps, if renewed I suggest they produce white chocolate Swoops.
I just tried Mountain Dew's "Flamin' Hot" soda recently. It weirdly didn't taste disgusting, it was more or less like Sprite but with a bitey aftertaste almost like the inverse of the cold feeling you get from mint. _Still fundamentally unpleasant, but not the way I was expecting._ I also remember chocolate skittles at one point, which were absolutely a mistake that I'm glad vanished into obscurity. Edit: And one I just remembered that I had finally forgotten the taste of: *Trolli Candy Corn.* I thought it would be candy corn shaped and tangy gummy flavored, but no it was gummy shaped and *candy corn flavored.* Bluuuuueegh. Worst Halloween candy choice ever.
Wow, I never knew there was a reverse Oreo. Makes more sense than a lot of Oreo flavours but just reversing the cookie and cream... idk seems weird to me. Also, I remember eating Oreo cereal when I was a kid. Haven't seen that nowadays.
The biggest battle for snack manufacturers is always over shelf space, so it's important to note that new varieties can help the company even if they don't last because stores tend to still order and pack out the same number of the standard flavors, but also make room for the new ones (often giving them promotional signage or end caps to boot). This is why there's always a third flavor of Doritos available.
Back in 2011 my local shoprite I was working in had crystal Pepsi for sale and I got to say, the lack of acid taste was amazing. Given a few of us suffered from acid reflex, crystal Pepsi was a welcome drink that helped relieve that burn in our throats.
I'm a huge lover for any kind of Skittles, so I would give the spicy a try. Although, I've cut back on the Skittles after researching about what will happen to your arteries if you eat too much all the time.
Neighbor in her 70s didn't have an appetite, wasnt eating well/enough and her doctor advised to eat skittles every day. Depends how you look at it I guess 🤷
I’m very fond of Stittles ever since I was a kid, but when Mom told me this morning, it was banned most countries (even the US) I was completely devastated. (Although it’s still being sold in Massachusetts) my mom said I should I get it as treat a times. I still love Skittles, regardless.
How can you show but not mention LA Beast 😭… the UA-camr holding the six pack at 12:17 single-handed brought back Crystal Pepsi through a fan-funded marketing campaign that included a bunch of promotion, rallying, and even a music video called “The Crystal Pepsi Song”. It’s really a wild ride, maybe future video idea?
17:12 I actually tried the Hersey Peppermint Swoops before. They were the only one of the Swoops that I actually liked as they were better then just buying the Peppermint Candy Bar that Hersey also released around the same time. Like, it actually tasted better somehow. Maybe because of the more thinned shape? Though, as mentioned in the video, you did not get many "Swoops" per package, and they cost almost $2~$3 more then a standard candybar, and normally weighed overall less then a normal bar. So it wasn't only the number of "chips" you got, but you were effectively paying more for less at the same time.
11:58 Honestly Strider, that whole Coca Cola sabotage thing is highly suspect. We only have one source on that, Coca Colas chief of marketing Sergio Zyman is our only source, as he claims responsibility. This mans career was abysmal, as he was behind New Coke. Let that sink in. The man behind new coke, wants to claim another of his failed products was in reality some grand strategy 4d chess play.
There was a bubblegum-flavored soda I tried a couple years ago called "Chubby." It was sweet, but not sickeningly so. Still, just tasted like the same artificial flavor as bubblegum-flavored ice cream, lollipops, or, well... bubblegum. Not a personal favorite but at least interesting.
I remember as a kid I loved them. I recently found a place selling them so I guess they're still around, but the taste? Yeah, as an adult I feel like it's basically drinking syrup.
I tried both crystal pepsi and hubba bubba soda. Crystal Pepsi is better by a mile. Hubba Bubba soda tastes exactly like you imagined. Like sugar and Bubblegum. :) Edit; I forgot to mention that Crystal Pepsi was back on the shelves a few years ago for a couple months. You can thank the LA foodbeast for that. If you didn't get to try it when that initial release happened, you may be out of luck. If they produce it once per decade: it's a miracle Edit: spelling mistakes. Thanks google speech to text. Lol.
I remember seeing the "Cadbury alien commercial" and it's really one of the most weirdest junk food ad I've ever seen. At least it's still better than _Mars Needs Mom._
One funny thing is that this is not the first time Cadbury used alien characters to advertise their products. In the 1970s, there was a series of commercials for Cadbury Smash, an instant mashed potato mix, that had Martians laughing at certain Terrans for making mashed potatoes the traditional way instead of using Smash.
I'm kinda surprised at the hubba bubba one. I think a bubble gum soda done right could work. I distinctly remember a Vess soda flavor that reminded me of bubblegum, and was pretty good. Hubb bubba soda must have either tasted really bad, or marketed poorly.
I never thought I would be watching a video about rare brands and variations of sodas and candies, but it is certainly interesting and curious to explore. I never thought that these words would come out of my mind and get typed down in a comment. Bravo, Phantom.
The Vanilla Coca-Cola Coffee tastes like a Coke float if you let the ice cream melt, with a little hint of a coffee after taste. It’s actually not bad!
I think chocolate covered chips sound really good. I’d eat some. Maybe with a little less chocolate than what lays did, but I love chocolate covered pretzels and chips just seems like they would taste just as good
They actually are, I had some imported from Japan to my country via TokyoTreat, and I loved them. Balanced right potato chips covered in chocolate is a good treat.
The swoops were just too overpriced and the packaging was too small. I remember trying them once, they were decent, but not worth the price. Probably why nobody bought them.
I had the Hubba Bubba soda back in the summers of 1988 & 1989, and it was freakin' AWESOME! It tasted a bit closer to watermelon than bubble gum, with some slight hints of vanilla & spearmint. I wish that I would've had the money to buy a 10x10x10 storage unit worth of the stuff so that I could still be enjoying it today!
I tried the lays wavy chocolate covered chips a few years ago, and I loved them so much. There are plenty of other chocolate-covered chip brands out there and I encourage people to try some if you like crunchy-sweet stuff like I do.
Oh, these commercials, though! The 1980s and 1990s were a golden age of apeshit advertising 'fluff'. *Anything in the world* might be treated like the most important, versatile or fantastic thing in history; people on the screen lost all connection with reality as they went bonkers; acid-trips to inexplicably themed fantasy worlds were common. Ad campaigns might not even bother to try and show a connection between their motifs and the products. Meanwhile we just sat on the sofa watching, so used to seeing it that nothing seemed amiss.
I love how much striders content changes over time. He just covers topics he’s interested in, and that might sound like it wouldn’t work, but the topics are always very broad and interesting. It’s just nice to see a UA-camr that just does what they want and doesn’t follow crappy trends. It’s hard to explain, but to summarize, just keep doing what your doing man, 👍.
Timeouts used to be my favourite. They used to be called just "timeout" and then they rebranded it as "timeout wafer" I think the problem was there was too much wafer in this iteration so it didn't grow on people as much as the old version. I for one was happy to see it back then immediately disappointed with what they had done to my favourite snack 😫
If you want to know what the bubblegum soda likely tasted like, just get Big Red. It's marketed as a "red cream soda" but it's just bubblegum flavored and it's why I liked it as a kid. But it hasn't been discontinued either, so it's easier to find.
I tried them. They were actually really really good. The reason why it didn't sell well as because people turn their nose up to the thought of eating a piece of chocolate in the shape of a chip. At least, that's what most people complained about when I asked them.
10:30 Interesting. Where I live, non-drink liquids are usually given funky colors to prevent people from thinking it's water. I'd like to hear more about failed soft drinks since you mentioned it.
"But, Your Highness, she is just a commoner. Her Slurm will taste foul." "Yes. That's why we will market it as New Slurm. Then, when everyone hates it, we'll bring back Slurm Classic, and make BILLIONS!"
Hey Strider! Loved the video! It was quite interesting to see some of these snacks! I’ve never tried Cocoa Cola Blak, but I can be certain it never tasted as good as the Cocoa Cola Coffee drink we have today. It actually tastes pretty good! The coffee flavor is a bit more subtle, but it’s a pleasant kind of subtle.
Here's one: Swedish Fish Oreos. We all know Oreos arr known for creating new flavors, some are good, and some are forgettable at best. But Swedish Fish Oreos were considered the worst out of all of them. I never had the joy of tasting one of these, but I heard people say the creme tasted so bitter and nasty, and it completely overpowered the chocolate cookie. It was so bitter it tasted like cold medecine, which to me, is a turnoff
actually they were more popular than you think, but only target was supposed to carry them and people forgot that a lot. the issue was people would go to other stores and ask for them(i was a cashier at one of these stores) and then not want to make another trip. people forget target has a lot of exclusive deals with companies and only they can release some flavors. i was asked where they were almost daily before they were discontinued and they were always meant to be a summer flavor anyway.
I really enjoyed the Sweet Heat Skittles. You don't get a lot of "spicy" sweets in Australia so when they were introduced i thought it was a great choice for people who wanted to get a spice sensation while being for a relatively cheap price
To add onto Lays' escapades into the realm of sweets, last year my store sold Reeses bite-sized chocolates with crushed potato chips in them, specifically Lays potato chips. It was part of our push contests for the stores in our region during Halloween, but even when selling a lot it was mostly due to good employee pushers and not the love of the product. Most people I asked about the candy told me they weren't thrilled about the taste or texture, and that it mostly just grossed them out to have potato chips inside Reeses. We also had a pretzel-filled Reeses that was loved significantly more and actually sold out before our contest ended.
The people baffled/unsettled by the idea of chocolate-covered potato chips must not live anywhere near Dayton, Ohio. You see, in Dayton there’s a famous chocolate company called Esther Price. There are at least two stores in the area (one in Dayton itself and one in Englewood. Edit- I double-checked and it’s Clayton, not Englewood. Even locals can have a hard time telling when some of the cities around here end and others begin) and numerous local supermarkets & stores carry their products. I live in Trotwood, which is near Dayton, so my family has been to Esther Price numerous times. Another Dayton specialty is Mike Sell’s Potato Chips. The two companies teamed up and so it’s common to find Esther Price chocolate-covered potato chips in Dayton-area supermarkets and sweet shops. They come in sturdy boxes so there isn’t the same crush risk you have with bags. I got a box this Easter and enjoyed them. I would describe the taste as good-quality chocolate with a little salt. The only issue is price; the 12-ounce box I got cost $15.25. Because of this I don’t get them very often.
As someone from the area, I think there's one in Centerville too. Or at least there used to be. But yeah, the Esther Price chocolate covered chips are actually a really good ratio of sweet and salty, with a nice crunch. (Though I might be biased cause I enjoy salty/sweet things like salted caramels anyway). Esther's stuff is definitely pricey, but you get what you pay for in most cases. I remember when I was a kid my family would only ever get chocolates from there for valentine's day. That was it. Literally the only thing that kept me looking forward to that holiday, ha ha.
@@pocketscarf Hey, another Dayton area native and another chocolate-covered chip lover! :-D "Esther's stuff is definitely pricey, but you get what you pay for in most cases." Oh, definitely! "The homemade goodness everyone likes/Life's a whole lot sweeter with fine chocolates from Esther Price!"
Howdy, 'Strider! Here in the US, where many of these confections are made, I've often been baffled by how these things were changed up. I'm not against broadening brand diversity & some of the experiments work (some of the Oreo changes, for example, are great, particularly the chocolate based ones, but most are...less so. Take the humble Twinkie. It's a classic because it hit a great synergy of flavor & richness. The bakery behind it didn't want to risk poisoning the brand, so they used to be very careful on changing it up. For decades, the only variant available was the devil's food cake. Now? Hel!, every single season they introduce some neon colored cream monstrosity to flog on us!...😠
@@MaoRatto Well, food's the ultimate "personal choice", so I'm fine w/that. It's just some of their variations such as Peeps or day-glow Strawberry Shortcake ones are a tad hard to take....😝
@@scotcarr3390 The Coffee Cola mix that is existing right now and back then are a HARD PASS for me. Peeps, the red hot one were mediocre, the birthday cake was poor, it wasn't bad, but no flavor... I still want my mint chocolate twinkies from 2019 back. Milk + Those Twinkies = PERFECTION.
Hey, really interesting video. It might please you to know that we still have Time Out bars here in England. Still take them to work in my packed lunch 😃
I actually remember really liking the Reese’s version of the Swoops as a kid. I would often buy a pack or two with a vanilla soft serve in the summer and use my ice cream as dip.
I actually liked, and miss Coca Cola Blak, the new one is too sweet, which I think was the issue with Blak, it was fairly balanced in sweetness, acidity, and spice, so it was doomed for the sugar addicted mass market. Also chocolate covered bacon is Ambrosia
It didn't taste anything like crayons. I think these people exaggerate for views. I like the new one but it's almost impossible to find the diet version and I don't like drinking calories or the taste of regular soda.
Iced, dark roast. You may have to mess with it a little bit to get it to taste right. I’ve tweaked mine to my own liking over time. Make a batch of iced coffee and then just try some different ratios and you’ll get it 🙂
Oh man, I loved those chocolate covered chips and always wondered what happened to them! I can’t believe they weren’t more popular, the sweet/salty combo and the crunch was just perfect.
Love this! Hershey Swoops was my favorite from childhood. I enjoy reading sources about discontinued food items, but I hope you cover food items that were discontinued yet the public wanted them back, like the French toast Crunch cereal.
25:20- “Our children will never know refreshment.” (Holds head) Someone really went the “Won’t somebody *please* think of the children!?” route. I guess I somehow forgot it was the 1980s for a minute there.
I actually was pleasantly surprised by Crystal Pepsi. The reason being that regular Pepsi upset my stomach and I couldn't drink it. The Crystal Pepsi gave me none of those bad side effects. I think I had an issue with the caramel coloring that Pepsi was using at that time because I can drink it now, no problems.
I love spicy skittles, spiciness and sweetness combine well imo. Also we had Cadbury Snaps in the UK instead of the Swoops, they were actually in big tubes like Pringles and did pretty well, they were avaliable in mint and orange flavours as well as original. I think they were around for a while but sadly no more, they seem to be missed
I’m honestly really liking the these new top tens that aren’t cartoon related. I barely see a lot of people talk about these topics, so it’s nice to see you discuss them. 😊
I remember when they brought back Crystal Pepsi. My sister and I were pretty hyped, being fairly heavy soda drinkers (for me, it keeps me away from alcohol, which I’m recovering from addiction). I think I was only 5 years old when Crystal Pepsi was around originally, so this was cause for celebration.
I had the displeasure of tasting Hubba Bubba soda as a kid. The battery acid effect did not go well with the sweet bubble gum flavor. I tried it as an ice cream soda and ended up throwing the whole thing away.
I didn't even realise Time Outs failed- I used to like them. I remember Cadbury released something similar to the Swoops called Snaps. They were smaller than pringles, but they quite nice. Regarding the bubblegum soda, I remember here I the UK years ago there was a brand of soft drinks called Panda Pops, which were small, cheap bottles of fizzy drinks that you could buy for 25p each. I'm sure Bubblegum was one of the flavours available. Speaking of failed junk food, I remember years and years ago Walkers released Sun Dog, which was a cheese flavoured popcorn. It was a huge flop and only lasted a few weeks I think, but I think I was probably the only person in the world who actually liked it 😅
@@MahouKat oh yeah, I think I do remember that. They also had before that the "Do us a flavour" campaign where you could suggest your own flavour. There were some... interesting ones....
I actually saw that new coca cola plus coffee in stores and litterally said "why? Who asked for this?". Like seriously, who thought "oh yeah, lets mix litteral caffeine with a soda that had even more caffeine!! We're brilliant!"
I got one as a free gift with my shopping once and I took one sip and immediately had to pour it out it was so awful I love coca cola and I love coffee, but some things shouldn't go together
Not gonna lie, when I was a little kid, my taste buds were a bit too sensitive to the acid and bubbles in soda. It's why I would still drink flat soda.
I remember being soooo excited to try Watermelon Oreos, since I love both watermelon and Oreos, but I was extremely disappointed when they tasted (in my opinion) like toothpaste. Lovely video, by the way, Strider! You're one of my favorite UA-camrs, and your videos never fail to put a smile on my face!
One thing I don't like about internet influencer reviews of products is group think, if someone on the internet says a certain snack is bad, their fans may not even want to try it despite the fact that taste is different, just because someone doesn't like it it doesn't mean that you won't like it. Some of these products could have succeeded if internet man 7643 didn't try it and not like it.
So I actually had a spicy chocolate bar once in my Spanish class, and while I don't like spicy things I did like that. So if ever given the chance I do recommend trying chocolate from Spain or Mexico saying it's spicy
A couple years ago you could get chili nut M&Ms as part of a "vote for the next flavor" promo. They were peanut M&Ms with chili powder mixed into the chocolate and they were really good.
As someone who drinks strong, spicy hot chocolate (NOT the candy-ish version that's basically hot chocolate milk) frequently, I found Strider's comment on spicy chocolate pretty funny. I'm not from Mexico or Spain though... It's found all over Latin American and in my case, North Florida a.k.a part of the cutural stretch of land that is commonly known as "the Florida/Georgia line". Also, have you tried any of the SALTED spicy dark chocolate bars? Cacoa can definitely be spicy, sweet, nutty, and savory at the same time!
@@kidwolf0015 no I haven't. Sadly I only ever had it once in like 4th grade (I'm in my 20s now) and I could never find any chocolate like it since I didn't know it's name. But yeah despite me not liking spicy things I did find that chocolate amazing
@@ryuudraco592 Well, I don't know about other countries, but there's a few hidden areas in the U.S that you could try to find Salted Jalapeño dark chocolate bars. One obvious spot is in any "Hispanic food" section in grocery stores, another is with the expensive deluxe fancy chocolate bars. Weirdly, one suprisingly reliable place is actually health/vitamin stores and the mini cafés built into some of them? My guess is that it's because it's a "superfood" that can be viewed as a candy bar replacement. Street Cafés are another good place to look for spicy chocolate bars & sometimes even freshly brewed Mexican Hot Chocolate (aka drinking chocolate)! Remember, keywords are "jalapeño", "salted (for the salty versions)", "Mexican/Cuban (I don't know why this odd claification is made. These bars are popular across all of Latin America)", "dark cacoa bars", "cinnamon", and even "Mexican Hot Chocolate bars" can be used on the labeling (Kinda of an incorrect name though. Real "Mexican hot Chocolate" bars are specifically made of cacao processed for brewing in mind. To eat those directly is like eating a spoonful of ground up coffee beans... Not a good idea. 😂). Hopefully this helps you out with your quest some.
A small correction about the pumpkin spice M&Ms, I once thought, as is clearly the case for this fellow, that this means the item is supposed to taste like pumpkin, or pumpkin pie. In fact, it's just the spices one uses when making a pumpkin pie. This led to a great deal of disappointment on my part, and a loathing for most things pumpkin spice to this day. Turns out that that particular blend of spices does few favors to most other foods. That said, there are plenty of pumpkin flavored, or pumpkin pie flavored products out there, and lots of them are quite delicious. Just watch out for the word "spice" and you should be fine.
Crystal Pepsi is so freakin good. When they brought it back for a limited time I tried it once then immediately went and bought my local gas stations entire stock. When they didn’t bring it back for a third summer I was so sad
The time-out one was interesting to me, I like in the UK and I can still get them at my local corner store!! They're called "time-out wafers" instead of just time-outs but I wonder if I'm some sort of strange anomaly
These lists, and this one in particular, remind me of the College Humor video of Oreo's CEO. He starts ranting and raving when given more and more pointless and insane Oreo variants to promote to us. "'Arbor Day Oreos, with.... REAL WOOD?!'"
A lot of the early 2010s Oreos I have experience with - my mom was a temp worker who got sent to Kraft Nabisco a lot in New Jersey. She helped craft the Birthday Cake Oreo and perfect it. Because she was a temp, she couldn't have been credited but the head of the project *really* wanted to name it after her. And the Lays Chocolate Chip thing - I remember at one point in time I microwaved some semi-sweet chocolate chips to melt and pour them over some kettle chips and enjoyed them. The nice balance between sweet and savoury was really good.
The combination of chocolate and chili is actually pretty good. My grandma would make hot cocoa with Abuelita (a Mexican hot cocoa bar) with a tiny bit of chili powder and it tasted amazing!!
The New Coke thing is basically revisionist history at this point. New Coke not only outperformed regular Coke in taste tests, but it was in fact quite popular, and many people preferred it to the original. It was actually a very vocal minority that rampaged against it, and it's because of them that we can't have nice things.

the ultimate problem with Pumpkin SPICE everything is that way too many people who don't know that it's meant to be just the spice mixture that goes into/on pumpkin pies instead of pumpkin and spice, so you'll get massive errors like, "pumpkin flavored M&Ms," and "The original Pumpkin Spice Latte contained no pumpkin".

The idea of chocolate-covered chips being this strange and disturbing thing is so foreign to me- there's a local chocolate brand and a local chip brand in my hometown that collaborate to release chocolate-covered chips every Christmas, and they are so good.

Dew shine was one of my favorites
One of my favorite ice creams was discontinued when I was little.
MTD Revolution was my favorite. It lost the vote but they've brought back the other two flavors and not that one :(
They did bring it somewhat back with Spark in 2021, but it was raspberry lemonade instead.
It's pretty good, actually.
Discontinued cereals would be a great topic, too. Like Ghostbusters, Ninja Turtles, Dino Pebbles, Triplix, and Nesquik.

@@gabepollock1641 it absolutely does! It's like there's a little bit of Sprite in it. Dang I miss that stuff!

I just want Pepsi blue to come back.
Two things I gotta mention:
Spicy chocolate (and for that matter, sweets) have been around for as long as candy has existed. The earliest known version of it goes as far back as 1900 B.C in Mexico.

They were the only one of the Swoops that I actually liked as they were better then just buying the Peppermint Candy Bar that Hersey also released around the same time.
Sounds like it would taste like dipping french fries in a chocolate milkshake and it just makes me wanna try it more
I have tried them before when I was a kid. They are very tasty.
I've had them before and they're good
Can we appreciate how kind this man is?
The swoops were just too overpriced and the packaging was too small. I remember trying them once, they were decent, but not worth the price. Probably why nobody bought them.
Their price didn't mean the value we consumers sought.
I wish I could try it.
It was delicious. But i don't think it would have stored this long. 😂
I wonder if you’d like Jenny Nicholson
Timeouts used to be my favourite. They used to be called just "timeout" and then they rebranded it as "timeout wafer" I think the problem was there was too much wafer in this iteration so it didn't grow on people as much as the old version. I for one was happy to see it back then immediately disappointed with what they had done to my favourite snack 😫
Also...this channel is becoming one of my favourites and I'm not a big fan of top 10's or anything so keep up the smashing work ❤️
The Coca-Cola Tab tactic was really interesting! Maybe a top 10 of how junk food companies went after one another!?
It seems to have been a lie made up by Coke to hide their failure.
Actually, it’s likely just a myth that Coke made up to cover up Tab’s failure.
@@MimikyuCookie spoken like a true Pepsi corporate spy 😂
@@crimecast72 no man I’m serious. Just look at the release dates and you’ll see it’s bullshit
If you want to know what the bubblegum soda likely tasted like, just get Big Red. It's marketed as a "red cream soda" but it's just bubblegum flavored and it's why I liked it as a kid. But it hasn't been discontinued either, so it's easier to find.
I actually LOVED the Hershey’s Swoops and I’m probably one of the very few that wants them back
I never got to try them but they sound good
I tried them.
Her Slurm will taste foul."
"Yes.
Watermelon Oreos? That's like if you made Pomegranate Oreos! You know that it's a flavor too out there to work!
actually they were more popular than you think, but only target was supposed to carry them and people forgot that a lot. the issue was people would go to other stores and ask for them(i was a cashier at one of these stores) and then not want to make another trip. people forget target has a lot of exclusive deals with companies and only they can release some flavors. i was asked where they were almost daily before they were discontinued and they were always meant to be a summer flavor anyway.
It's like the Little Debbie's Cosmic brownie cereal I've been seeing.
@@karaoconnoraliasraidra Thanks, now I have the jingle stuck in my head. That and a craving for the chocolate.
Now? Hel!, every single season they introduce some neon colored cream monstrosity to flog on us!...😠
I miss the mint chocolate twinkie... The classic was good as well, but mint chocolate will be missed.
The banana cream Twinkies are my favorite!!
@@Adrastia soda or cola? Because cola, is flavored (and caffeinated by) the kola plant, a relative to coffee
Half coke half coffee and a splash of creme soda. Closest thing I can get to Blak :)
@@bittybye I have to try that. Btw the coffee, hot or cold, what's your strength, and what roast?
Iced, dark roast. You may have to mess with it a little bit to get it to taste right. I’ve tweaked mine to my own liking over time. Make a batch of iced coffee and then just try some different ratios and you’ll get it 🙂
Oh man, I loved those chocolate covered chips and always wondered what happened to them! I can’t believe they weren’t more popular, the sweet/salty combo and the crunch was just perfect.
I used to get those at a chocolate specialty shoppe. They were thick Milk Chocolate coveted rippled chips. Yummy. Even the shoppe is gone.
In the UK (at least where I live) time-out wafers still exist, they kinda taste like a softer Kit Kat, it’s pretty good
Failed sodas, please. I'm loving you discussing old foods. It's nostalgic.
I just commented about then too, loved them and Aldi do their own version and they’re really nice.
@@mgthestrange9098 ah yeah I forgot about the Aldi ones, they’re pretty nice yeah
@@Cheemma one thing’s for sure, both will be better than Hersheys, their chocolate tastes like sick. 🤮
@@mgthestrange9098 I’ve only had cookies and cream Hershey’s, I don’t mind it but give me Cadbury’s any day
I’m honestly really liking the these new top tens that aren’t cartoon related.
I tried it once,; to me, it tasted like a cross between Pepsi and Mountain Dew. A quite interesting taste.
@@Crowski and it’s pretty difficult to get another one, lol.
It was a huge flop and only lasted a few weeks I think, but I think I was probably the only person in the world who actually liked it 😅
Speaking of Walkers, do you remember the weird flavour vs flavour campaign? I swear it flopped. At least one of the flavours was like 'ketchup'.
I got one as a free gift with my shopping once and I took one sip and immediately had to pour it out it was so awful
I love coca cola and I love coffee, but some things shouldn't go together
Not gonna lie, when I was a little kid, my taste buds were a bit too sensitive to the acid and bubbles in soda. It's why I would still drink flat soda.
I still as a young adult don't care for carbonation. It tastes bitter to me
@@HayLeesHomeMade I didn't, until I tasted Tango haha
I think I would've liked the Time Outs, Hershey's Swoops, and chocolate-covered Lay's chips.
The Sweetheat Skittles became the Zombie Skittles when they came back from the dead.
I actually had one today
1) I'd love Coke with more Coffeine. 2) Spicy chocolate is BRILLIANT!
