As someone who marks essays at university, a grade would be limited where it appears a student has just answered with a copy of what was covered in the lectures and the key text. The point of an essay is (usually) to measure independent thinking and critical skills - how you have understood and bring your perspective to the material. It is not simply about repeating knowledge that has been fed to you. This is especially true in cases where it is known that the student has access to these materials. I’m guessing here, because i don’t know the purpose of this essay or the approach that the lecturers are taking, but it’s likely that your approach of wanting to get everything down perfectly actually worked against you developing an independent argument in your essay. This would not be so much your fault as theirs for not making it clear what they were expecting of you.
I am seriously baffled how he was even able to graduate without EVER hearing that university is not only about to acquire knowledge but more importantly to apply it... I would not have made past my first semester to be honest....
Apologies - obviously, my reply above should have appeared elsewhere. P.S. I totally agree with your reply but I'm let wondering how a student could get to their finals without understanding that the essay technique they used was so completely wrong - 🤔
Well done Dylan! Your final year results are impressive! Definitely worth getting that 58% exam investigated as you are close to a first and have nothing to lose! Hope you have a good summer.
I wrote for 2 hours straight in one of my finals, thought I'd done well but when the results came in I got base pass 40%. To this day I still can't explain it. It's really hard to know what went wrong sometimes. A 2:1 overall is still a great results and you will be pleased in time but yeah that one will stick with you. On a side note I've loved the fact that you are honest in your blogs. I have just recommended your channel to my nephew who is looking at uni next year because your content is more relatable than some of the other student vloggers. Again, well done.
Hi Dylan, I understand your disappointment. Over the years I’ve learned that how you market yourself is way more important to get you closer to your goals after graduation (not your grades). I graduated top 2 of my graduating class and got the first class degree, but none of that mattered when it came to taking my first steps after graduation. Believe it or not, my first employer didn’t even see my degree. How you market yourself is far more important. 🙂Congrats on completing your degree and making the most of your student years. All the best, you have an awesome future ahead of you! ⭐️

As you transcribed the lectures you basically copied the lecturers work rather than answering it as your own - it is fine to use the basis of lectures and seminars in essays as they build the foundation for the argument however without showing own knowledge around the area and using different sources there would have been no way to get above a 2:2 grade The problem with ‘open book’ exams means a lot of people end up doing this, open book doesn’t translate to copy the book, it is only there to aid in your understanding rather than answer the question for you. Well done for all the other grades though and your final result!

Bro it’s calm, u can still get a banging job!!! It’s a high 2:1 man well done. Fuck degrees. Getting into a Graduate scheme is much better and the other extra experience/curriculum shit is more important
Have you considered maybe you got 58% because you transcribed the lectures and book and didn't really provide something closer to a personal analysis/ interpretation?
haha 58% actually sounds quite generous given he did this and given it wasn't from memory and just from listening to the lecture due to doing the exam from home
That was my absolute first thought. My International Trade professor straight up told us that if you have no original thoughts, and simply transcribe my own notes back to me, you will pass. Which is a 2:2 and exactly what this guy got. That seems fair to me, honestly I'm surprised the lecturer didn't flag plaigarism concerns if he truly did just transcibe and copy the textbook. I got 82 in a closed book exam for International Trade, and it was specifically because the main essay was a comparative analysis; comparing the ideas the professor presented in the lecture with contemporary ideas from the literature that I'd researched throughout the semester to supplement the course material, and a couple examples I'd looked up online and pre-prepared. The thing is, he's clearly capable of that type of analysis if he did so well in other modules?
Ofc you can brag and flex about a first but at the end of the day the memories you made will outweigh any grade such as the sick times you had abroad don’t be deflated by it. In the real world your personality and people skills will take you forward.

Gongrats Dylan! I can't believe you finished your degree. I'm super happy for you! Thank you for your hard work and motivation the past years. I think that you should at least email your professor and ask what went so wrong with your exam paper, in order to not repeat the same mistakes in the future. I'm an economics student and a few days ago I had my online exams on Economic Geography (multiple choice questions). So at the same day my professor marked my exam with a 10 (which is the maximum grade) but 2 hours later he changed it to 8.58, even though everything was correct. Three days later he decided to decrease everyone's mark by 1.5, so I got a 7. The explanation he gave for all of this was that it's unrealistic to have high grades on your online exams so you definitely must have cheated and you'll punished for that...
@@ReLoadXxXxX It's an example of how he could approach his professor and get an explanation. He would show that he cares about knowledge not his grades. Plus he could pursue a masters degree etc sometime in the future and his mistakes could be important. That's what I'd say...

Congratulations for graduating. I followed your journey since GCSE'S and it is amazing to see that you have come to the end of your journey. Excited to see your next step.
I remember getting a 6/10 GPA in my 19th century Literature module when I was doing my undergrad degree. It was one of the most shocking instances for me and despite all warnings, I applied for a re-evaluation and ended up getting 8/10 GPA after it. You can apply for the check if you want to. At times, luck seems rough despite hard work but congratulations on getting your degree.
I get what you mean at 6.26 but let me tell you Professors hate textbook language. You must listen to what they say in lecture & don't write what they said, write why what they said is important & how you understood it using your own language. How the lecture content became useful in writing your essay. Hope this helps! no offence. Its just my opinion. I am a final year student in Canada. Besides, your channel is very genuine & real!
Hey mate. Youve done really well aside from the 58. I think you should ask for a remark - theres a chance it could be a mistake; 58 is a huge difference from the avg of your other exam marks.
Worth checking with you university to see if they may round your grade up to a 1st class. I know at my university that if you get a overall 68 percent average they round it up to a 70, for a first.
Once i had a data analysis assignment and i did the calculations with my friends. I got 50 odd whilst they got 80+. To this day I don’t know how that happened
Well done! I would ask your lecturers for feedback, it won't change the result but will stop you wondering how and why you got that mark if they show you where you went "wrong".
Dylan, I so sorry about the grade which you got. It can be very frustrating especially if you worked very hard and you tried your best. Those U.K. university exams are not easy and it is difficult to get high mark in university degrees at the U.K.. Is that your least year of university? Are you planning to do a Master's or another undergraduate degree or just look for work?
Word of the Day: Perplexed But honestly, damn man. I'm gutted for you. I mean, I can't imagine working so hard to get a score like that. I'm not from the U.K so I don't know how this stuff works, but are you/will you be able to review your answer with the marks and see where you went wrong? I mean, I'm not sure if doing something like appealing would work (again I'm from the U.S, things are different) but considering how well you did in the other sections, I'm surprised that that score, even if lower, wouldn't still be in the upper 60's range...
@@ReLoadXxXxX well to be fair, his score on that test was not what he was expecting and so my assumption was that it wasn't a good grade. But by no means was I saying his overall grade was bad. I recognise that a 2:1 Is a great score. Perhaps I misread his demeanor as he seemed disappointed that he didn't get a higher score in that section.
Me: Okay the phone wallet seems cool. Comment: They Are Cheap! Me: That is the information that I need. :D Maybe you could talk to your instructors about your grade if your not happy about it. :-/ I‘m not entirely sure if you can ask for someone to remark/ check the 58% in UK universities, but at least you could give it a try. PS: And am I the only one who thinks he looked really hot with the shorter hair? Yes, ok. But tbh the longer hair also suits him very well. :-)
your strategy of copying from the textbook and lectures frankly sounds terrible. The whole point is already to know all this stuff pre exam and then you add analysis that tailors this information to the specific question and adds original thought...
Dylan mate because there’s more than 25 marks (or something like that) between your highest and lowest marks you have grounds to ask as to why you got 58, fingers crossed 🤞
I think with essays you can’t just copy what the lecturer and textbook says, at least at my uni ( Exeter) :( you have to show originality and insight by putting your own spin on it or mentioning the topic in relation to something going on right now e.g maybe writing about the importance of the model or whatever in the context of coronavirus? Or maybe involving a debate about the importance of the model from different perspectives that weren’t discussed in your direct resources,, you have to search up papers and then that shows you’ve put in the extra mile an you get higher grades. I’m not sure if that’s what happened there but maybe this might help someone else doing essays at uni 😊
Can someone please explain to me, why his grades are pretty low(first year, 34 and 48, avg of like 60+) but still, it's considered to be pretty good? Anyway good effort bro.
What others have said here applies I think. Your mindset of regurgitating knowledge and the rote memorization of the problem sets your doing, sounds like you miss critical thinking to really get high marks at university level. Your marks are not super bad, but you clearly don't really belong in academics. You're better off with what you're doing now: a more vocational occupation. Again, no shade. I also have a vocational occupation and am much happier than I ever was in university. I even regret going to graduate school. I wish that I had found out earlier that just like you, academics just wasn't for me.
@@lifewithdylan ah fair play bro, honestly a 2:1 is not much different from a first! All my friends got 2:1s me included, it didn't stop us from finding jobs, in fact one of my friends got a 2:2 and bagged himself an incredibly senior role! You aced it bro, gl with the next stage in your life!

Besides, your channel is very genuine & real!
Yes yes I totally agree with all of that! Maybe that’s why I did badly although I thought I added my own twist to it😪😪😪
I know what u mean by the 58% similar things have happened to me. 2:1 is fab good on you, a high 2:1 as well well done!
the tabs are killing me loooool 3:47
LooooooL
Hey mate. Youve done really well aside from the 58. I think you should ask for a remark - theres a chance it could be a mistake; 58 is a huge difference from the avg of your other exam marks.
Thank you v much! And yeh that’s true !
You should still be proud of yourself bro you have worked so hard throughout your degree. Wishing you the best for the future
That’s true thank you!
Worth checking with you university to see if they may round your grade up to a 1st class.
I know at my university that if you get a overall 68 percent average they round it up to a 70, for a first.
Reallly? What uni bro?
Student Vlogs - Dylan, yeah try and find out what your university says! I go to reading university, a lot of other unis do the same!
Once i had a data analysis assignment and i did the calculations with my friends. I got 50 odd whilst they got 80+. To this day I don’t know how that happened
lmao its so annoying init bro
Had a 90% year mark! But still got 58% in stats and an overall average of 70%... 😑 I cannot believe it!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhh
Gutted mate
Well done! I would ask your lecturers for feedback, it won't change the result but will stop you wondering how and why you got that mark if they show you where you went "wrong".
Yeh true true! I think I will
Have you ever considered of getting a remark as I have a Mathematics retake coming soon which build up to my protental Computer Science for next year
I might do bro good idea
Dylan, I so sorry about the grade which you got. It can be very frustrating especially if you worked very hard and you tried your best. Those U.K. university exams are not easy and it is difficult to get high mark in university degrees at the U.K.. Is that your least year of university? Are you planning to do a Master's or another undergraduate degree or just look for work?
Word of the Day: Perplexed
But honestly, damn man.
You seem to be under the impression that he got an awful grade. Overall, he got the 2nd best grade possible and just missed the best possible.
Maybe you could talk to your instructors about your grade if your not happy about it. :-/ I‘m not entirely sure if you can ask for someone to remark/ check the 58% in UK universities, but at least you could give it a try.
PS:
And am I the only one who thinks he looked really hot with the shorter hair? Yes, ok.
But tbh the longer hair also suits him very well. :-)
I like your shirt by the way
Ayy thank you
Is the A level economics revision video coming soon bro? 🙌
ill try bro yeh!!
Loooool the outro tho 10:00
Hahahahaha
maybe at masters lvl someone will teach you how to write an essay :P
LOOOOL For real!!
your strategy of copying from the textbook and lectures frankly sounds terrible. The whole point is already to know all this stuff pre exam and then you add analysis that tailors this information to the specific question and adds original thought...
i recommend cyberspydemon@gmailcom he helped me spy on my gf
Bot@@jameswaynewayne3032
Don't be sad I'm sad lol I got 2:2 only 4% off a 2:1 but once I pass my resit in August then I'll get 2:1 so yeah don't worry 😂😋
It really feels like the end of a chapter☹️
For real :(
My reaction was the same with my dissertation. I got 55! I still somehow came out with a 2:1 though
Dylan mate because there’s more than 25 marks (or something like that) between your highest and lowest marks you have grounds to ask as to why you got 58, fingers crossed 🤞
Yeh that’s true I will!
You absolutely smashed your other modules though Dylan!! Incredible grades and well done on the 2:1 😊
Can someone please explain to me, why his grades are pretty low(first year, 34 and 48, avg of like 60+)
but still, it's considered to be pretty good?
Anyway good effort bro.
First year doesn't count. Best degree is achieved with 70%.
Dude, what are your plans after this degree?
Ahhh I’ll be revealing them soon! Covid Really through them Up in the air that’s why I haven’t said anything! Hahaha
@@lifewithdylan cant wait . Good luck 😁
Did you take into account the weightings for each year? Coz you might still get a 1st depending on the split, whether your 3rd year counts more?
Yeh I took into account the split bro
Maybe if you’d answered the International Economics from the top of your head rather than
What others have said here applies I think.
Dylan where all the 2019/0 exams done recently or where any done in January?
aww remark!
Trust meee
I don’t really understand the grade system in the uk what GPA did he graduate with ?
Appeal ittt
dont you get non-detriment policy tho so your lower grades get pushed up to your overall average?
Yeh my average was 63% tho
@@lifewithdylan ah fair play bro, honestly a 2:1 is not much different from a first! All my friends got 2:1s me included, it didn't stop us from finding jobs, in fact one of my friends got a 2:2 and bagged himself an incredibly senior role! You aced it bro, gl with the next stage in your life!
atleast its better than 40%
LMAO So true🤣
Hii mate, I received a offer for petroleum and gas engg from Salford uni, Manchester. 13k£ fees. Are there jobs for that course msc student. In uk.
