    One correction, there is a section or two where I eliminate a Zero-step unit who took a Suppression. Zero steppers are not eliminated on Suppressions, they are simply, well, Suppressed.

      +Ty Snouffer Eliminated in assaults tho!

      Thanks for the correction. I was looking all over the rules as to how they were being eliminated on a suppression. :)

    That was outstanding. I really took my time with this video, watching it in small segments over days and played along with my own VASSL module independently. The beach invasion rules are rather convoluted and it helped immensely watching this. Thanks. And now it all seems fairly simple!

    I was confused by the shot at about 15:10, the ship fire at the La Marefontaine unit because the LOS was otherwise blocked. But I see the answer is at 4.4.4(b), which states a ship need not be able to spot a coastal battery to fire at it

    Thanks for doing this Ty, it's another hugely valuable resource that you've provided! All this stuff you do [and I read through your Black Baron guide via the Wayback Machine] helps provide clarity and thus 'playability' for the rules. Reading and watching this stuff helps me take the first big step from 'reading the rules and setting up' to 'drawing that first activation chit and getting things going'!

      Thanks Nathan. I forgot I did this one. Man, I wish I was playing GTS right now.

    At around 32:30 when conducting opportunity fire -vs- the first landing craft, was there any reason that you didn't attempt to op-fire another German- say the unit in 69.004?

    • @GamesfromtheFront
      @GamesfromtheFront  8 років тому +1

      +Butch Schorzman Good question. It is hard to tell because of the minen marker, but 70.004 is a Town hex which is blocking terrain. So 69.004 doesn't have LOS. That is also the reason the Brits didn't attempt to bombard it with naval units. It simply can't be seen.

      +Ty Snouffer Thanks, when I got home and pulled out my map I answered my own questions. Thanks very much for doing these videos!!

    Great presentation, very well done
    One correction as per the placement of light or heavy barrage GTS 2.0B rules (16.6.2) only markers on the units alter the firepower (eg. column marker) in determining if light or heavy barrage marker, so if a 4 strength ship gets company bonus it a heavy barrage even if the defense of the unit is a -1 to make the shot a 5 strength

    I've watched this video several times already. It's been a great help understanding the beach invasion scenarios. Thanks so much. Would you consider making a video of you make these videos? I've thought of making tutorials for other games, but my efforts don't look as polished. Perhaps you can tell me which video capture program you are using?

      Hi Keith. Thanks for the kind words. I use Screenflow for video capture and all the editing. Cheers.

    Starting at around 29:30, you spend a command point to avoid a suppression result on an LC. But you don't place a cohesion hit. I don't see under Rule 19.2.2 that spending a CP to automatically avoid the suppression also allows you to avoid taking a cohesion hit though, or am I missing a rule somewhere else.

    • @GamesfromtheFront
      @GamesfromtheFront  2 роки тому

      There are two type of Suppressions "S?" = "a possible Suppression" and "S" = sometimes called a "hard Suppression." In the former, before you roll against TQ, you can spend a CP to avoid the possible Suppression altogether. So in this case, spending the CP avoids everything. For a hard Suppression you can spend a CP to convert a Suppression to a CH.

      Thanks, I guess missed it was an "S?" and not an "S"!

    The setup I have for LC Support ships shows only 2x of these, not 4x LC Support ships as is apparently in the Vassal module. Is that in errata? I double checked my scenario booklet and still only saw 2x Support Ships. Thanks for an excellent video and demonstration!

    • @GamesfromtheFront
      @GamesfromtheFront  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for that. In the version of VASSAL I have (VASSAL 2.2.10 / Module 3.6.9) There are two LC Support units and two LC Rocket units in Storming Gold. That is what I see here in this video too. Where are you seeing 4 LC Support ship?

    • @jamenta2
      @jamenta2 Рік тому

      @@GamesfromtheFront My mistake! I was looking 20:11 and saw the (4) in parenthesis, and then somehow extrapolated the Vassal module had 4 LC, Support ships. Thanks for responding however. Kind of you. You didn't mention in the video that the LC Support ships can also be used to reduce Beach Defenses, but seems like a very minor point. Unless I'm wrong on that too! Cheers.
      ps: The asterisk on the LC Support ships also had me initially confused. I am assuming in my own playthru that they have the same off-shore range as the other Landing Craft ships.

    • @GamesfromtheFront
      @GamesfromtheFront  Рік тому

      @@jamenta2 No worries, it is a lot to keep track of. If memory serves, the "*" on the LC Support for range means they can shoot at anything they have a LOS to. So it may be 2 hexes like the LCs but it may be more too. Another minor point.
      Good point about the LC Support possibly attacking the Beach Defenses. Get those defenses down!

    • @jamenta2
      @jamenta2 Рік тому

      @@GamesfromtheFront Yes. Well that's what I read to. But what confused me is the Group Assault Marker has a 10 hex range. And it's my understanding LOS on a clear day is max 8 hexes? What's interesting is the Vassal module automatically red-outs the asterisk, as opposed to the LCs with a range of 31. It's really nitpicking though. I mean, clearly you are meant to just fire the rockets like you would the other Landing Crafts (but as Direct fire) that must be Self-Spotted. So not a big deal.
      What perhaps isn't clear in the rules, is the LOS is probably suppose to be traced *from* the Assault Marker?? I see now that since the fire of the LC Support is Direct, it can't be 31 hexes like the other LC craft since their fire is Indirect.
      Thanks for replying again I am not experienced enough yet with GTS to know if first getting down some of those Wn's might be a higher priority than rolling the two LC Supports for a chance to reduce the Nests. My initial inclination is roll for the Nests. Cheers.

    • @GamesfromtheFront
      @GamesfromtheFront  Рік тому +1

      @@jamenta2 Hmm, that is an interesting read. I hadn't thought of that range from the Close box as factoring into it. I see where you are coming from but I don't play it that way. They way other naval units self spot is from a Beach hed (4.4.4 b) not from the beach assault force marker. You'll find there is a lot of blocking terrain around the beaches so LOS won't be very long anyway. Cheers.

    In the rules, it also states resistance net attacks are made on the red line 2.2.2(1)

      +Raymond Weiss Great point. When playing via the VASSAL module a lot of the detail is hidden. Good for new players to dig into those mechanics.

      +Raymond Weiss In the VASSAL module the attack wizard comes up with an RN attack and you can see the Pink values there too.

    • @raymondweiss2707
      @raymondweiss2707 8 років тому

      And that would be incorrect right? I should keep using the red line on the chart right?

    • @GamesfromtheFront
      @GamesfromtheFront  8 років тому

      +Raymond Weiss Ah yes, the joys of printing. I've always considered Small Arms a Pink value. To me it looks like that on the counters and the CRT of WED and TDC. For TGD it does appear more red on the CRT. I still think it looks Pink on the counters. Regardless Small Arms is what we're talking about for RNs.

    This is helping me out a lot for my first Naval scenario. Thank you!
    I have a question: When you indirect fire from a boat to a zero step coastal battery unit, you don’t take mass modifiers into account (-1 for zero step units). Is that correct during this attack to the coast?
    Thank you!
