Don, great song to get an intro to him, I might suggest "He Went To Paris" it's storytelling at it's best you will love it . Great reaction as always !!!
Thanks Jacob for the rrquezt. While Jimmy is widely known for his up tempo fun songs my favorites are his songs that ate more poignant. A friend turned me onto this side of Jimmy in 1990 and I was completely blown away. My favorite, amongst many great ones is " He Went to Paris" why change was covered by Waylon but I always preferred Jimmy's rendition. Thanks Jacob for getting Jimmy on the channel.----#UTRCM
Another stellar Buffett song, Mike. I am lucky that I've seen him at least 5 times...maybe more. He engages the fans, whether he wants to or not. I've seen people from 5 to 65 at his concerts. :) # FIM
Everyone knows Buffet for his campy songs, but this song and “Come Monday” where he’s singing from the heart, are his best.
Probably my 2 favorites. And you gotta love cheeseburger in paradise
I agree, another great one is "Miss You So Badly" another excellent story.
Some of my personal favorites are Beach House on the Moon, Don't Bring Me Candy, Barefoot Children in the Rain and The Captain and the Kid and I feel this only touches the surface as he has so many terrifically fantastic songs!
Thanks Jacob and Don!! Another one of my favorite singers. Jimmy wrote it about a guy he met at one of the first places he played when he moved to Key West.
Pretty simple story. This was a song written about a friend of Buffett’s that couldn’t make it in the modern world, so he turned to smuggling. Otherwise the lyrics speak for themselves
Jimmy's songs arent really stories of himself, but combinations of events in the lives of characters hes met in his journeys and probably some of his own
Another less popular song that I really like from the album with Margaretaville is Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes. Also a popular song played at college when Mt St Helen’s blew is Volcano.
That's probably my favorite classic Buffett song - "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes! Volcano is also great. That album is gold for me!
When you start listening to the music just for yourself. You will have achieved
PARROTTHEAD status
And I think you're already halfway there.
And one of the more recent albums that you have to listen from end to end it
Take the Weather With You. And I'm sure many other PARROTTHEADs will agree with me
I've lost count of how many times I've seen Buffett in concert, but I always had a great time! Thank you Jacob for the fantastic request! Love Jimmy! Thanks Don for your reaction.
I love Jimmy too, however, I've only had the good fortune of seeing him once live. You should consider yourself very fortunate.---#FIM
My dad's 3 favorite artists were Willie Nelson, Pink Floyd, and Jimmy Buffett.....I love Jimmy's music and my favorite album of his is "Beach House on the Moon" There are so many great songs on that record. Including the title track.
My fave JB song. I so should have been a female pirate back in the day.
Love this song. He usually sings this last at his concerts.
I'm 81 years old and first hear Jimmy in 1973. You missed out a lot if your life if you didn't hear Jimmy Buffet.
Jimmy Buffett was the most unique entertainer that I have ever heard! Born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he lived on the water and beaches! He had a phenomenol fan club named "The Parrot Heads". Jimmy wrote all of his songs. He amassed a fortune during his lifetime. When he died, he had $1 Billion Cash Dollars in his bank account, plus his restaurant chain...Margarittaville Restaurants! He also earned alot selling his novelties! He was great! He passed away on Sept. 1st, 2023! I bet ELVIS will meet him with a salt shaker in one hand and a cup of Mississippi beach sand in the other!(since they are both from Mississippi) They make me happy; these guys from my Homestate! ❤
Jimmy is a dynamic songwriter. He has many sides. Check out his 'He Went to Paris' and 'Come Monday'.
"Come Monday" is another fantastic ballad by Buffett! Great suggestion, SSP!
I love this song. It is such a reflective story that leaves you wondering should you be happy or sad.
Tin Cup Chalice.
@@notabot3375 Fill it up with red wine.
I would classify Buffet's music as sort of a hybrid country, pop, with a hint of folk music.
I have never considered JB as Country, until Country claimed him a few years back.
He wrote this, but it's not autobiographical....more like folks he knows.
The thing about his music is that he lives that lifestyle so a lot of the detail is spot on and makes the overall composition of his songs more authentic. He's a pilot, boat captain, all that stuff. He also has about 40 albums out there and most of them are really good.
Jimmy got pigeonholed into the country genre, but he ain't country. Certainly, he employs some country aspects, but nah...he's his own genre.
Jimmy's main problem was back in his heyday neither country nor rock radio knew what to classify him as.
Jimmy ALWAYS has a story..LOL, react to Jamaica Mistaka about when the Jamaica armed forces fired on his airplane when he was flying into town with Bono from U2 and Bono’s wife
I've been a parrot head since I was born cause both my mom and dad love his music
Parrot Head here also, Jacob. His music is fun, reflective, enjoyable and more. My 34 yr old son grew up a Parrot Head, too! He had no choice...lol
@@carolinasbeauty my dad's told a story of going skiing up in Colorado and going to the bar and turning jimmy buffet on the Jukebox and nobody had heard of him and ended up having every song played on it cause everyone wanted to hear
You're missing the next song on album
Trying to reason with hurricane season.
Jimmy is a story teller and tell stories about people he’d met and places he’d seen. He’s more than just country, he’s also calypso, rock - anything. He has a box set of songs, and the name of that set tell you about his music - boats, beaches, bars & ballads. I hope you try more of his stuff. He was one of a kind. RIP JB
He's got a lot of great songs. Listen to Gypsies in the Palace, or Schoolboy Heart, or Cowboy in the Jungle, or even Son of a son of a Sailor.
Ooh, or Love in the Library
Since you mentioned Schoolboy Heart
You have to love
False Echo's plus the bonus track
Treetop Flyer
Yes he was busted for selling a lot a real lot of marijuana that's where I made a lot of money
Buffett is one of those artists that you never know which way he's going. Several people have suggested "He Went to Paris" and "Come Monday". I would agree with both those recommendations, then take a 180 degree turn with "Gypsies in the Castle."
Great review.
Haha - A great fun song by Jimmy!! "Hey Snake, we need more wine!"
You mean Gypsies in th Palace, and yes, it's a great song.
Jimmy always has a story.
A-1-A B1. If you know you know. If you don’t you won’t.
I do - Amen!
Okay first of all 99.9 of his songs are stories. If you want to get into JB listen to the box set. Beaches Boats Bars and Ballard's. And the you had to be there live album. I was at the Atlanta concert, we were the ones he pointed at and said. ( We can smell that shit up here ya'll are going to be real hungry when this show is over 😂 ) I can't count how many times and places I've seen him, but it's always like a big party with friends. Do yourself a favor and go see him live.
Sorry, that's "Gypsies in the Palace."
This is probably my favorite of his. But I'm gonna have to request more I can't believe nobody requested them to you yet lol
Please do, Jacob. I have every album he's ever produced. He flies under the radar as far as radio is concerned, but he has an unbelievable dedicated following...and I'm one of them!
I was at the concert in Cincinnati where the term Parrothead was coined. He's always been a favorite of mine. Check out Cowboy in the Jungle. It's a story song that has some really poignant lyrics, like the following:
Alone on a midnight passage
I can't count the falling stars
While the Southern Cross and the satellites
They remind me of where we are
Spinning around in circles
Living it day to day
And still 24 hours maybe 60 good years
It's really not that long a stay
He Went to Paris is one of my favorites of his songs. PARROTHEADS FOREVER!
None of Jimmy's songs are bad by Amy, means. But in my opinion, "Margaritaville" of one of his weakest.
According to Jimmy. He never ran grass. I feel like there was a wink in there when he said that though lol. RIP JB
Buffet is like Croce style and music all their own
I’ve never thought of Jimmy Buffet as country.
You need to listen to the whole album
A1A. There is not one song that isn't great
Most of Buffetts stuff is just noise, but THIS song is almost perfect.
It's the story of one of his key west friends
And yes he wrote it himself
Jimmy has so many legendary songs, it so hard to pick favorites! Been to a few concerts, both decades ago and recently, and bought a lot of his later vintage CDs. Every one is a treat in its own way.
I say my favorite album is FRUITCAKES! Everybody's got a Cousin, Fruitcakes are plainly a hoot. Very touching love songs, and the song Delaney is about his daughter.
The most surprising album I found is his rousing Don't Stop the Carnival... First hearing made me wince and wonder why I bought it, no song was the least bit familiar. The album is actually a soundtrack for a musical, on stage comedy, and reading the liner notes paints a fabulous mind picture. After that, each hearing got richer, became a high point on a long car trips!!!
You should read his autobiographical books. The man had an amazing life.
He certainly has a story, but it’s not autobiographical (although he toyed with the idea of running drugs) It’s written about a smuggler he met (and became friends with) while in key west named Phil Clarke. Once again, he was a great story teller
And Phil Clarke died in the mid-80s in San Francisco Bay.
Try. First Look by Jimmy
This was his best song. He should have stayed on this path. After Margaritaville became such a big hit, his music suffered.
Many people feel that way. But all of his material throughout the last 30 years is to phenomenal. Showing he was so much more than what anyone realizes just from one greatest hits album.
All of it needs to be reacted too
he went to paris
This is Jimmy's song that I enjoy the most.
❤
Hey Don, Jacob, that was great Jimmy Buffett, is just a classic great sounds always entertaining fun to listen to good job fellows, I would like to request a song by LEE ANN Womack, called "I MAY HATE MYSELF IN THE MORNING" really pretty song think you will enjoy it please react to it when you can, thanks
Jimmy really isn’t country. He is his own genre.
