It works! Purchased a cheap Chinese code reader for £14 off eBay & followed your steps. Job done 👍 that annoying light has been on for 4 years! Mechanic didn't know what it was lol thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for video mate, my car is a Vauxhall Meriva & has just come out of the garage after having the Gear Linkage Cables replaced (one of them snapped). Rather than mess about I'm taking it back to the garage as it's obviously related to something when they replaced the gear cables. On checking on the net it seems to be related to "transmission or electrics fault" (among other things so I have read) Mine comes on after about 5-10 after starting the car, anyway handy vid nonetheless - cheers 👍
I had this light come on when I accidentally started up the engine with the air flow sensor disconnected, my more expensive OBD reader that works on my laptop wouldn't find a fault and even if I created one so the zero all fault codes option came up it wouldn't reset the spanner lamp. I had no problems driving it, there was no reduced performance at all so the light on was just annoying, nothing else. I bought the OBD scanner you used in this video for £29.99 off ebay and gave it a try, it didn't work! I thought it might be because my Zafira is an old "A" Petrol Auto version and the unit said my Vehicle Vin number wasn't supported. I flicked through the menus to see what came up but nothing was there that seemed relevant and it said no fault codes were stored, just for the hell of it I tried zeroing the fault codes again and whala! It worked and the Spanner through the car light went out, second time lucky, thanks for the video James Dods!
The reason you got no fault is because that system is a secondary Vauxhall only system, that universal reader only works on the engine management system, common to all cars.
I’m getting the same on my Corsa d 1.2 2010, the car with spanner stays on and fan constantly running, I’ve done abit of research from other videos and googling, everything points to the radiator coolant temperature sensor, just booked one for £7 off EuroCarParts will replace it and see what happens. I serviced my car myself in February oil/filters etc which I do every year but not sure how to reset this car with spanner light
It's the limited performance light ..it could be owt or nowt I'm sure we all know or service miles via SID some motor's go into limp mode when it's showing some don't depends on issue obviously limp mode needs looking at but mine sometimes comes on saying limited performance with same icon on this saab 93 with z19tdh engine at pre engine start with no code stored and no effect to performance once running so (Viagra not needed😂) I just assume it's feedback delay from one of sensors or fuel return a common fault with diesels once every blue moon for past year this won't start but if I wait 5min and try again it starts 🙄 disconnect battery for 10 mins gets rid of it if you've no scanner
My light keeps flashing and don't start was told how to clear it by the aa who got it going but its done it again and every time I clear it it does it straight away as it keeps d amobising
The spanner light is the service light but if its on it can also be an electrical fault it is related to the body control module, where as your engine management light is for your emissions.
@@ladyshep i had some turbo issues which i seemed to have fixed the engine management light now off but replaced by spanner light. there was a split in the vacuum hose that actuates the turbo. drives very well now
@@si4632 not sure wether you van do the pedal test on it, search up vauxhall pedal test an it'll give you the fault code, if you can do it on that model.
Hi James, I got the diagnosis tool like yours ,seemed to do the trick ,but the yellow car with spanner light comes back on nearly daily ,so I've been erasing regularly ,any idea please
Wind Sock first I would check you air filter. Make sure there is no dirt going thru onto sensor. If not it could be an emission sensor(lamda). But start with air filter. There is a sensor directly after it so check for debri. Hope this helps

I have the same issue. The spanner light comes on and all the guages drop to zero then come back on. The car doesnt feel like its loosing power either. 07 Holden astra.
Temp sensor..ignition on engine off disconnect temp sensor start up...Then plug sensor back in light goes off..unfortunately my light came back on few days later..maybe the sensor needs replacing.£8.99.ebay...hopefully this will sort it..
Did this warning pop up on the motorway and loose power. As this is what happens with mine. I pull over turn off engine and it’s fine for 5 minutes then it pops up again and I notice the power drop slightly.
Had exactly same thing happen to me, pulled over turned off and on and away she went. Have not been back on the motorway yet.... have you noticed it happening again, or did you figure out what caused it? cheers
Jesse Lane basically get yourself an OBDII scanner and see what the code is. Mine is basically the air intake sensor that needs replacing and needs to be an official Vauxhall part so still doing this for me till I get new official part.
someone I knew used to while driving straight road put in natural switch engine off then turn back on, this way no time lost, speed dipped slightly but power in engine restored, of course this could have gone very south indeed and wouldn't recommend but hey this is UA-cam
I know this is an old post but you guys really should just take the car to a good diagnostics tech and have him run some actuator tests on the EGR valve.
My car has it too, mine is an Astra but my car manual says that light means Engine or transmission error but a mechanic I spoke to said its just the service light so I'm pretty confused.
This is just a cheap one but it's all you need for things like this and handy to have. There is plenty of similar ones on ebay and amazon. Hope this helps
@@jamesdodds4583 Hi, I have recently started using a Vauxhall Zafira Petrol 2.2 basic. The spanner light shows up every 2 minutes and comes up again if i switch off/on the car. Car starts to loose power as if the gears are not working. One mechanic has cleaned the fuel pump saying that no fuel filter present in this car and fuel pump needs to be cleaned. It worked fine for one day but the same issue has started to appear again. Can you guide me what to do?
@@faraufi is there a lift pump in the tank? Is there any other restrictions in fuel line if indeed it is a fuel fault. Does car have a turbo? Is there a leak in pipe from intercooler or crack in intercooler. Can u hear any whistling sounds?
Hi there, can anyone tell me why i can't turn off my spanner light on a vauxhall corsa 2010 1.3 diesel, the service as been done, i tried to reset the light, but it would go out, so i've put it on a diagnostics machine, it's telling me there are no faults with the car, car starts and drives fine. In this case it was the outside temp sensor. It was displaying 60 degrees. But the car ran fine with it on. As soon as temp sensor replaced it never cam back on again. Sometimes egr can set them off too. Hope this helps

Yeah it's to do with the exhaust mate from the exhaust manifold from the engine to halfway down because that one went

Wind Sock . Yeh worked fine. It was the outside temperature sensor in the front bumper a's it was saying 68degress. £10 of ebay

Wind Sock definitely start with all the fuse' s first. Make sure the isn't anything stopping it

@@si4632 ye could be, on my car the spanner light came on because one of the settings on the fan was showing an open circuit, what car is it.

Does the ambient temperature read correctly?

@@southsideboxing there is usually a digital message displaying outside temperature. Just to make sure that isn't giving you a silly temp reading?

Your steering wheel is not on the right side maybe that's the problem...
