"The Spy Who Loved Me" Opening Credit Sequence

- The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) is the tenth spy film in the James Bond series, and the third to star Roger Moore as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. It was directed by Lewis Gilbert and the screenplay was written by Christopher Wood and Richard Maibaum. The film takes its title from the tenth novel in Ian Fleming's James Bond series, though as Ian Fleming requested that only the title of the novel be used, the film does not contain any elements of the novel The Spy Who Loved Me. The storyline involves a reclusive megalomaniac named Stromberg who plans to destroy the world and create a new civilization under the sea. Bond teams up with a Russian agent Anya Amasova to stop Stromberg.
The theme song "Nobody Does it Better" was composed by Marvin Hamlisch, written by Carole Bayer Sager, and performed by Carly Simon. It was the first theme song in the James Bond series to be titled differently than the name of the movie, although the title is in the lyric.
The song met immediate success and is featured in numerous movies including Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), Little Black Book, Lost in Translation and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004). In 2004, it was honored by the American Film Institute as the 67th greatest song as part of their 100 Years Series. - Фільми й анімація
The best Roger Moore Bond movie
Indeed. And the best Bond movie overall.
Except for all his other ones.
33hegemon
You're kidding, right? This one somehow managed to be even worse than "The Man with the Golden Gun". I'm not sure how they managed that one.
and it has the best bond girl too... Barbara Bach/ Anya Amasova
ghenulo You have to be fucking kidding me? One of the best Bond villains, the late Richard Kiel, one of the best Bond girls ever in Barbara Bach, one of the top 2 or 3 Bond songs ever, easily the greatest Bond stunt to start a film, this movie had everything a Bond movie is supposed to have, and more
R.I.P Sir Roger Moore
1927-2017
here here
He was a . . . correction . . . THE SAINT!
RealGucci he still alive
RealGucci The last English Gentleman
Ahamed, what have you been smoking? Lay off it, Sir Roger died in May 2017.
This solidified Carly Simon's reputation for me. Probably the best Bond song.
I still have to say Goldfinger no matter how much I love this.
+Ixor Agree. But this is clearly, to me, No. 2. Great song, done perfectly by CS.
+steve conn 'You're so vain' by Carly Simon may have been an appropriate song for bond!
Yep. The greatest Bond song.
Definitely one of the best, but Moore had a lot of choices for best song. But this is by far one of the best of the Moore Era: soulful, gentle, yet pretty damn moving...and all this for an action film.
Log Cabin Girl: "But James, I need you!"
James Bond: "So does England."
It's pretty screwed now too.
@@jamesfrench7299 Nah, it's looking pretty good.
@@corinnegreen7482 then it was outstanding in the 1980s and downright exemplary in the 50s and 60s.
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland: "Are we a joke to you?"
ha
'But James, I need you.'
'So does England.'
Best line in the film.
Best Bond stunt, best Bond intro, best Bond song...and arguably, best Bond flick...and best Bond ending too!
And the best villain, too
@@rickdepaula and perhaps the best closing...“keeping the British end up Sir!” followed by the Navy style “Nobody Does it Better”...stellar!
Toss-up between this and the opening of Octopussy....
"Fill 'er up?"
this film is so iconic and special. The theme is so good.
And for God's sake... best CAR!!!
This was the film that MADE Sir Roger Moore a great Bond. He played the part with such suave and cavalier charm, with just the right amount of grit to it.
Roger Moore was my favorite Bond. The guy was pure class. God bless him and his family. RIP Roger Moore you will be missed.
no f-in way roger moore dead ...that sucks beyond words
Totally I love Roger Moore as Bond!!!
He was mine too I thought he was the best James Bond 007
I agree. So witty as well.
Yup Roger is my favorite as well. I always saw him as the cool / lighthearted Bond :)
He was the Ultimate Bond. This was the Most Brilliant opening sequence. Roger Moore was the Best.
Yes but his portrayal wasn't the best
luv ya
To me, this is the BEST 007 theme song ever.
70's Bond has the most stylish openings. I love it.
Yes, those were the best Bond years, in my opinion.
This opening scene of the film is a work of art.
R.I.P Rodger Moore Nobody could have done it better.
*Roger
Connery = book Bond
Moore = the charming Bond
Lasenby= the underdog Bond
Dalton = the brutal Bond
Brosnan= the playboy Bond
Craig= the realistic Bond
One of the best Bond opening credit sequence and movie.
James bond personifies an era.my 21 year old buddy thinks the daniel craig era is the best!songs and all!!little do they kno.roger moore songs charted on the top 40.live and let die.he wasnt campy.just a sign of the time.he was a cold war spy!!great era!!
+Rick Atlas Absolutely! Not just one of the best Bond theme songs, but an all-time great song. Even folks I knew who weren't Bond fans loved this song back in the day.
agree sir
@@theexile6605 I've loved this song from the day I saw the movie in the theater! I still listen to it often.
And what is with a view to kill?
Ask my dad (75) who's James Bond and he'll say without hesitation "Sean Connery", ask me (48) and I'll say Roger Moore, ask my wife (41)and she says Pierce Brosnan, ask my daughter (18) and she said "Daniel Craig".
Your wife and daughter are much closer than you and your father.

ask me (24) i say - Timothy Dalton
I have to say I agree with you, your dad, your daughter and RivieraByBuick .
And what about Timoty Dalton?
I'm addicted to this song.
Still my favourite Bond film. It had everything.
The Spy Who Loved Me has all the elements: The best Bond ever, the best director, best production team, best intro, best song, best credits, best henchman, best Bond girl, best action scenes, best humor, is the best movie in the franchise, a classic.
completely agree
Jiraiya Sama In my personal opinion, Casino Royale is better, but this is a very close second
Best car too.
Amen!
How is Lewis Gilbert the "best director" for Bond?
His other Bond films are "You Only Live Twice" and "Moonraker" - both very weak.
The best are Terence Young and John Glen.
Greatest Bond song, greatest opening sequence, greatest Bond movie, greatest Bond actor !
Thanks for everything Sir Roger Moore you are and will always remain a legend and may your kind soul rest in peace.
Hail and Farewell 007 in 2017
Moore is not the best bond actor
RIP Roger Moore
You will be missed but your work will live on forever.
The synthesizers at the end was the whip cream and cherry on top. 😎
RIP Mr Moore. great film, great actor, great song and what an opening sequence!
For me, the combination of Roger Moore as the star of the movie and Carley Simon singing the lead song was all I needed. And then it turned out to be one of the best films of series. This will always be one of my all time favorite movies and, theme songs. Thank you Albert R. Broccoli, Roger Moore and, Carley Simon.
Rocco, soooo agree.
Don't forget to give Carole Bayer Sager for writing the lyrics and Marvin Hamlisch for composing the music credit
@@josephcasanova1975 Embarrassed to admit I didn't know that fact! But you're absolutely right about the acknowledgement.
@@roccosophie6498 Hamlisch died in 2012 at 68 years old. He was a child prodigy that went to Juilliard when he was 7. Carole Bayer Sager is 75 and still going strong. Carly Simon will probably never perform again. In 2022 she lost both of her older sisters who died from different forms of cancer just 1 day apart from one another. She didn't even want to be seen or heard at her Rock N Roll hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2022. Feel very sorry for Carly
@@josephcasanova1975 That is a terrible tragedy no one want's to deal with. I understand her choice. But I remember reading she was never fond of public appearances of any kind. Especially performing. She didn't even like interviews.
ABSOLUTELY FUCKING EPPPPPIC. My mom took me as a child to all these Bond films. These were absolutely the best times for movies, music etc. Rest In Peace my MaMa. Thank you. I sincerely wish you all well. 💖
An awesome James Bond song and movie. RIP Richard Dawson Kiel (the actor that played JAWS). He recently passed away on Sept 10, 2014.
I agree I loved this movie and the song......Yes it was so sad to hear about Richard Dawson Kiel...may he rest in peace...
RIP Richard Dawson Kiel
he kinda sorta looked like Ahhhrnold S.
BOND RIP Roger Moore
i also think moore was the best. i always thought and still think of roger moore when i think of james bond. he really made the role his own.
rest in peace
Me, too!
When someone says "James Bond," Sir Roger Moore's face comes to my mind -- he IS Bond!
Roger Moore was my childhood. So thankful I saw him as bond in the cinema. Was the greatest time to be alive. People growing up now have no idea how amazing it was every 2 years to go and see sir Roger. He really was one of a kind and truly irreplaceable.
I of course dont know how it was but I can imagine how it was and I would really love to live in that time and be very excited for every new Bond movie
So grateful to have been a kid seeing this in the theaters. Life truly has given me a gift of great cinema and music.
Marvin Hamlisch really nailed it with this one.......Carly SImon has a very powerful range that totally suited 007
What a Bond's movie... A masterpiece
This song, this opening, this movie as a whole, Roger Moore, and the rest makes this one of my favorite movies in the franchise.
This is by far the best bond film. Hands down, this song nails the vibe of the whole film.
All the Bond films are coming back to Vue Cinema...this is the one I'm going to watch ...60 years of Bond! Wow!
Nobody does it better than a James Bond song
The lyrics say it all really. Roger Moore, Maurice Binder & John Barry. In my opinion, one of the greatest teams in film's history. Nobody's done it better, and nobody ever will.
Barry didn't do TSWLM , that was Hamlisch (friend of Barbra)
sometimes i wish someone could
and let's not forget Ken Adams!
Devastated to hear of the passing of Sir Roger. I saw this film in the theater back in 1977. Seems like only yesterday. Sad how quickly time flies by.
Everyone has their own personal Bond. And like the song says "No Body Does It Better" than Roger Moore!
Alright well he's about 4th best so there you go people can do it better

He was a very likeable Bond so i liked him alot. Sean Connery obviously i think is the imagery of Bond. But Roger Moore i liked alot for what he did too
@@kejiri3593Agreed, Sean Connery is THE James Bond, the most iconic and definitive one. But Moore is the most likeable and my personal favorite.
Sitting on the living room floor watching this on Christmas day afternoon, as a young boy. Wow just made me well up . Ooofff 🥲. Born in 1973 .lived in Chesterfield UK 🇬🇧
He passed away today 😢 so sad 😢😢 He is my favorite james bond. Thank you Roger from Japan with love 💓
This has to be in the top 5 of all time greatest bond soundtracks & Roger Moore will always be the best bond, I don't care what anyone says!
Best Bond movie and theme song.
Exactly how Alan Partridge described it

Apart from *Skyfall* this is my favorite Bond theme, so calm and yet so catchy. I love it
This song makes me sooo happy. It makes me think of the man i am with and how wonderful he is
I've been hearing this song all my life, since it was a hit when I was 7. But hearing it just now, with the visuals from the opening credits, made me tear up. It's simply beautiful, and playful, and sexy, in its way. The orchestration, Carly Simon's voice, the lyrics. "Sometimes I wish someone could." So great.
Indeed, a beautiful song and lyrics. In a different league from the more recent Bond films.
Part of my life till the powers that be takes me home.
My favorite bond movie , when I was 15 years old . I was crazy about Roger Moore
My favourite Bond film and Bond theme in one 👌
Beautiful song, wonderfully sung by Carly, brings back happy & care free memories of being a teenager a long time ago...
this is what i always wait while watching james bond movies, their opening scene
I just always wait for the opening song to start.
I wait for the credits

This credits sequence is pure beautiful id
"All those feathers, yet still can't fly!"Best line of the film, I love Roger Moore.
A fitting song for the best bond, rip roger moore
One of the most beautiful Bond themes.
Best song from ANY Bond movie...
"Have you taped over 'The Spy Who Loved Me' with 'America's Strongest Man'?!"
Bob Connally
I just wanted to see America's strongest man.
Well now you've got Norfolk's maddest man!
BANG! Blood dribbles down...
What was that? Too late!
Simon Ray ooh a bit of bush..
Maurice Binder was the king. His Bond title sequences are so beautiful and ethereal, they send shivers through your spine.
Hands down, the best JB theme.
Probably the best Bond opening out of the bunch. This song and the video just went together so well. Not to mention the movie was great.
How about for your eyes only?
Rest in Piece Roger Moore
I have seen this movie over 30 times. I can never get enough of it, it is simply a masterpiece. Roger More is a true legend, the best Bond the world has yet seen. In this movie everything, all the pieces just fall on the right place. I hope the younger generation can see the beauty in movies such as this... 007 4 Ever!
I'm 17 and I completely see that
I will always love this film and this song. This was the best bond film for Roger Moore, man it's so sad that we live in a planet that hasn't have the legend we know as Roger Moore anymore. May he rest in piece knowing he made an impact on our lives as one cool, slick and memorable bond.
Easily my favorite opening title sequence for the Moore era Bond movies. The song is wonderful and the Maurice Binder imagery is just fantastic. You can tell a lot of care and attention went into this title sequence. My favorite part is the bit with the gymnast girl twirling around the gun barrel toward the end!
My favorite Bond theme 💙
Probably my favourite Bond Theme. Its just always been the most haunting to me, the one that really gives me goosebumps every time. Simon’s voice was a great match for it.
I grew up with Roger Moore being James Bond & he brought me so many fond memories & lots of excitement. God Bless Sir Roger Moore & thank you for all the memories. RIP.
Absolutely unforgettable opening! I well recall a 15 year old boy transfixed by those "Bond Girls" whirl'in, twirl'in & jigg'lin pleasantly on the big screen in the Summer of '77. Love how the song fades into the opening scene. Thanks for posting this blast from my past!
jiggyling what they're sticks
Rest in Peace, Roger Moore. His portrayal of 007 was impeccable.

RIP 007. Thank you for your Service.
The best bond song by far! Love it.
Rest In Peace Roger Moore. All of us fans around the world will miss you. Thanks for the memories. My thoughts go out to his family.
The BEST Bond film. The BEST Bond music. The BEST Bond!
RIP Sir Roger Moore - Nobody done it better... ♥
I remember watching this movie over and over ad infinitum when I was 9 years old..must've been around 1979, before hbo was commonplace, but when cable was new and the local cable company would pump movies into our home for a few hours every night..they had a limited movie selection, and they played this one over and over..and, of course, 9 year old me probably watched it every time it aired...girls, action, Bond....it totally made sense to me that Lotus' would turn into submarines with missile launchers...good times....RIP Roger Moore..thx for the great memories...
yeah, it really is the quintessential Bond opening credit. Simple and elegant. Including the song which perfectly compliments and sets up the movie's theme.
Roger Moore one of the best Bonds!!!! I was dreaming and heard this song in my dreams and came here. I love this movie and such a great song :)
Best Bond movie intro ever and Carly killed that song for herself. Real cheek to cheek dancing and a great bond Movie.
Great song and great imagery. Gives me the chills.
This is my favorite Bond song without a doubt. Very good movie too! Love the Bond franchise so much.
For me too followed by live and let die
Rest in Peace Sir. Many may disagree, but for charm and comedy you were the best.
Probably the best song ever...a close 2nd is view to a kill in my books but this just nicks it.
The song saved the movie ( View to a Kill) . Moore did not seem to be there
joeysn7hvn and don't get me started on his co star. she just shrieks and shouts for bond.
Moore was way too old to be Bond in View to a Kill.
Ringo , the lucky Beatle

I simply love Bond openings. They're art in and of themselves. Each handling the different themes masterfully.
This was the first James Bond film i watched. I was impressed by the effects, the whole atmospher of the film and the amazing play of Roger Moor. He was, for me, the best James Bond actor.
Classic Song. Probably all time best song.
It was my first James Bond film. I saw it in 1991 or 1992. I never forget this moment in my life. I was 13 years old kid. Now I'm 35 years and I think it's my favourite Bond. Wonderful music by Marvin Hamlisch. 'Spy who loved me' in my opinion was the end of the best period in 007 history and this film was beggining of the new chapter in this series. Amazing, very romantic episode with great sir Roger Moore and Curt Jurgens. From Poland with Love to all in the world.
Nobody does it better than you Sir Roger Moore and you will be forever missed :'( I do hope they play this theme in honor of him!

Maurice Binder always did a great job with the opening credits!
Born in 1991. I could identify this song by a few lyrics in a trivia pursuit game. I love the old Bond Movies. So many timeless scenes.
Nobody did it better than you! RIP Roger Moore.
My favourite Bond :'(
I still remember seeing this movie on the silver screen on that opening weekend in Japan with my dad when I was just a little kid. Gets me feeling nostalgic every time I hear this song. Good old times!
As a kid I watched this sooooo many times. Love this film even now. That moment when the lotus goes in the water and morphed into a sub just blew my mind as a kid. Love the soundtrack too.
Nobody really does it better than Carly Simon - i.e. preforming this song!
Roger Moore bond films had the best hits for sure. His first "Live and Let Die" and his last "View to a Kill" and this one squeezed in the middle. Amazing.
"NOBODY DOES IT BETTER"
I was expecting this because his health was getting bad. But it still sucks because he's the first Bond to go. Plus, he embraced the role up until the 80's. RIP Sir Roger Moore.
Nobody does, or will do it better, than Roger. RIP :'(
Roger Moore was a superb Bond in this film, very much his own version and interpretation of the character. So many iconic Bond moments crammed into one film too, an absolute classic
