    I'm still not sold on the Free series of multi tools.
    I've had the Leatherman Rebar Black Oxide since October 2020 and I have carried it everyday since. Literally. I wanted a multi tool that is tough enough for serious jobs but small and light enough for everyday carry. The Rebar ticks those boxes for me.
    Comparing the tool set of the Rebar and P2, I think the former is superior to the latter: separate plain edge and serrated edge knife, functional file, better phillips screwdriver, superior awl (it's a tip saver for my knife, drills holes on wood, plastic, and leather; but it's most important use, for me, is as an ice pick to crack some ice and have a cold one after a hard day's work). The Pliers on the Rebar has held up to my abuse (I do a lot of fence work with barbed wire).
    Some people dislike the Rebar because: knife is not one hand opening (I carry a separate folder), lack of a clip (my plier based multi tools always ride on a belt pouch because my pockets are always full), no scissors (rarely do I need scissors on my "on person" EDC, if I do, my Victorinox SwissChamp is in my EDC bag).
    I like what you said in another video about the Rebar being the tough guy on the Leatherman line up. I would like to piggy back on that and say "The Rebar is the Glock 19 of multi tools: good enough to be a duty side arm, good enough for off duty concealed carry." There are multi tools that do exceptionally well on a certain area, but for me the Rebar is an able performer on a broader playing field.
    Great job on the review!

      I literally agree with you on every single one of your points! I’m amazed at how well my Rebar has taken every task I’ve thrown at it. Pretty incredible that after three years of hard use, nothing has broken, loosened, or bent.
      Although I am leaning towards trying a Surge, just to check out something new.
      Thanks for watching and for the great comment!

      @@doodysdaggers Yeah, same experience with mine. There's virtually no damage, just a few scratches but that's it. Incredible if you think about the price you paid for it and the vale you get out of it! BTW, love the scuff marks on the tool and sheath. Really shows the tool's personality
      The surge is a beast of a workhorse! I love that tool too. I find that its size makes it great for heavy duty use. But its size also keeps me from wearing it on a daily basis.
      Love to see a review on the P2 (and Surge, if you ever decide on going with it) and how it holds up to your day to day tasks at work.

      @@bhoyfolk-naught3976 Well, after considering it all day and hearing different opinions I’ve decided to go with the Surge. I think the T-shank adapter really is an awesome thing to have on the tool, and just the general beefiness and toughness is what I need. Personally I’m not concerned with the weight or size increase.
      So yes, I’ll definitely do a full review on the P2 coming soon and once I get the Surge and carry it for a couple weeks, I’ll do a review on that one as well.
      And yeah, I love my tools to show some use as well! Gotta have that personality. I think the classic leather sheaths are the way to go mainly because they look so good worn in. 🤠

    Whoaaa holy.. The red / green intro nearly sent me into a spin.. All good, but didn't know I have a reaction to alternating red/green lights, interesting.

    I have both, and although I do like how the main blade on the P2 sits on the lower handle when open, and it’s easier to one-hand open stuff, I feel the Rebar overall is the “better” package. I don’t need to one-hand open the tool like a Balisong, and can open the Rebar on my leg one handed.
    I’ll give my wife the P2 as she’ll likely appreciate it more for the scissors and ease of opening. The Rebar still beats it for me.

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  Рік тому

      I agree, the tools on the Rebar are better suited for me. And yeah you’re right, you can open the Rebar one handed it just takes a little longer.
      I’ve since graduated to the Surge as my daily. I love it, but it’s huge and heavy! For its size and weight, you can’t beat the Rebar.

    I wish they had the full 3d Phillips head on more of their multitools. I bought the crunch and the super tool 300 just because of that.

      @doodysdaggers  2 роки тому

      Me too, it doesn’t take up a lot more space than the flat ones anyways. And it works so much better. I actually have a Crunch on the way, looking forward to checking it out

    I have the P2 and I like it for the weekend and love the action of it. If I did what you do for a living I would go with the the Surge that thing is bulletproof but magnets aren’t for working around metal for sure.

    Get the surge for the shop. The Free is for light home use.
    Open the pliers and apply opposite rotating torque to the handles. There is considerable “give” on the plier joint. It’s by design right out of the box, but it’s light duty.
    Check out the “TX Tool Crib” channel (Ben).
    I own 11 Leatherman multitools. Ben is the Leatherman guru.

      Yup. You and Ben have convinced me to get the Surge next. The P2 is fidgety and fun, but might not hold up to the tasks I would have in store for it. Thanks buddy!

    None of the above. Instead, get knipex mini combination pliers and a swiss army knife.

      @doodysdaggers  2 роки тому +3

      I really do need to try carrying a Knipex, I’ve never done it. Gotta see what all the fuss is about! But I think in the long term, at least for me, I’d rather have one tool as opposed to two.
      But who knows, maybe once I experience the Knipex I’ll change my mind!
