|| LYRICS ||
I don't know just how you got here.
It doesn't really matter where you wanna be.
It's so hard to believe your eyes, but
what you get is what you see.
Fortunately, we've got time
so if you listen, I will speak.
What's that? You say you cannot stand this?
You're welcome to take a seat!
(We've got room to spare.)
I don't know what the ticketman told you,
but this journey's just begun.
The river ebbs and the river flows
and the river takes what the river wants.
Sticks and stones may break your bones
if you try to jump ship when all's not well.
You can bet your soul you'll be better off
spinning 'round and 'round on this carousel.
It's a long trip, one way road.
Tell me, where is it you call home?
Or rather, 'was it'. It's long gone.
Don't worry, dear, you're far from alone.
You've already come this far,
it's far too late to look back now.
Pardon the pun, but look alive!
You'll flourish here, I know somehow.
You're not the only one who's going
through those feelings in your heart.
Everyone says this feels like the end.
I promise this is just the start.
Sooner or later, we're all navigating these waters.
Down here, we are all the same.
Ladies and gentlemen, take your seats!
Welcome to the fun and games!
Tell me, did you see a light?
It's been so long. I don't remember what it's like.
I don't know what the ticketman told you,
but this journey's just begun.
The river ebbs and the river flows
and the river takes what the river wants.
Styx and stones may break your bones
if you try to jump ship when all's not well.
You can bet your soul you'll be better off
spinning 'round and 'round on this carousel.
I love the part
"What's that? You say you cannot stand this?
You're welcome to take a seat!"
Its like a teacher making a joke/pun on a student/kid
it really passes the ancient being talking to a "newborn" soul vibe
"The river ebbs and the river flows anc the river takes what the river wants."
Love that part...
I love the detail in the lyrics! Since you put out the album 'Glow In The Dark' I've been analyzing it, and I particularly like the potential meaning behind "Tell me, did you see a light? It's been so long, I don't remember what it's like". My take on that is that the speaker is an usher to whatever comes after life, and they were once human, too. They sound like they would be grinning as they said it, trying to act somber and hiding their amusement about how long it's been since that other life. Throughout the song I get the feeling that they sort of understand the shock that their passengers are feeling, but they can't really be bothered to do more than act sympathetic. After all, those passengers have no idea what sort of a time is just ahead!
Thank you!! I love this comment, you hit the nail on the read with the kind of mood I was going for.
ooh, i like the detail of changing sticks to styx in the last chorus.
Woah, I hadn't even noticed that prior to you pointing it out!! Clever catch!
;)
luciewhale it's cause this about the River Styx from Greek mythology
everyone thinks that is cool but i love it for some reson
Hi
I wasn't prepared for finding this???
How did I even come across this by chance?
This song is amazing?
This song has so much personality! It's awesome how much you've improved! Your first songs are personal favorites, and incredibly good, and your new songs are so much better. You've learned to use your voice better, and the instruments sound incredible. I'm gushing, but this song is awesome.
Am I right in assuming this song references Charon from Greek mythology?
Thank you! :)
You are right! I deliberately kept it vague and ~mysterious~ because I didn't want to deal with people getting snippy about inaccuracy or anything like that because like, it's the internet, but Charon was absolutely a key inspiration for this track. I did seriously contemplate the whole song being The Ferryman instead (the syllables do fit), but I liked the feel of 'Ticketman' better.
So yeah, while it's not explicitly about Charon, I had him in mind during the writing process.
Rachel Rose Mitchell Ahh, that's so awesome. I'm always a sucker for songs based around greek mythology.
Every time Rachel releases a new song, I get inspired to write! :D Whenever I feel down or feel like I've got writer's block, Rachel's music is always there to pick me back up and tell me to keep going! I'm so glad I discovered her and her music all those years ago
What people don't know is that Rachel's songs tell such a complete, yet ambiguous story, they're more effective than writing prompts.
Absolutely amazing! I'm so impatient for "Glow in the Dark" and "Something You Don't Know"!
Thanks :) Hopefully I get those out in a reasonable timeframe lol
I think the only thing I don't like about this song... is that it's short.
When I first read this comment, I missed the 'don't' and I was like '...well. That's mean.' ahahaha
thank you :)
Hooked from the first note . Great work love the song . Short sharp punchy and hooky as all get out . With a grounding in mythology . Thoroughly impressed !!
Thanks! I had to fight myself to keep it short, but I think the song is better for it in the end.
Truly masterful pun! I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, and it took a few replays to hear, but...
STYX and stones.
Definitely intended. Check the lyrics, near the end.
This is probably the funnest song about death I've ever heard. I love it!
Thanks! If you like fun death songs, check out Dead! by My Chemical Romance, it's a classic.
Rachel Rose Mitchell Will do! Thanks so much for the recommendation! Voltaire also tends to be fun as well.
every time i listen to this in the house my mom says that she can't unhear ticketman as chicken man
I love this so much!!!! I’ve listened to it 6x in a row!!
This is fab, you never disappoint 😻😻
God, I love this much! So well produced
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!❤️👌🏻💪🏻👍🏻
Gods, I love this song so much it's beautiful. And, side note: it really reminds me of the Ticket-Keeper from the Devil's Carnival. Which just adds to the playfulness and fun of the song.
Ooooh it's so beautiful and mysterious! 💕💕
Love it!!
Ugh wow, your songs are so gorgeous! Gives me chills! 💚💚💚
You are still my favorite singer, and this song was executed perfectly, just like every other one!!
Aww thank you!
I just absolutely love all your songs
Thank you :)
You should so write a musical! Your style of music would be phenomenal on stage. Well it's phenomenal anyway but ya know
What an earworm!!!
Love it
I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS INDIVIDUAL SONG SPECIFICALLY.
Perfect song for a D&D's Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign.
I broke the replay button, so I refreshed the page just to break it again!
Love the lyrics to this song!! Reminds me a lot of the show Infinity Train haha
Listened to this track recently on Spotify. Good stuff.
Omg sooooo gorgeous 😍
ah, so those are the last two lines of the chorus.
thank you, it is beautiful.
cant wait for "something you don't know"
I love all of your music! It always works to get me over my writers block and this song is one of the bests in my opinion! You're amazing!!
Thank you! Best of luck with the writing, goodness knows we all need it :P
Rachel Rose Mitchell Thank you! ^-^ Good luck with your next project!
Thanks!! I'm chipping away at it right now actually :)
I just want to say, a lovely song that I've been listening to on repeat for several hours now (and listened to since 14 seconds after it was posted). From what I've seen, you do like TTRPGs (especially with Voidfish (Plural) which was wonderfully done!) and I want to say this has a very distinct RPG feel. Something I feel would be a great start to an adventure as the players experience this scene. No clue if that was the intent, but really well done!
Thank you! I've actually never really had the chance to play any TTRPG for real (unless you count finding an old beat up DnD board in my school's storeroom when I was ten and ordering everybody around like an absolute nightmare of a DM, aka good times) but I'm hoping I get to this year at some point. I'm going back to uni this year and I found out they have a tabletop gaming club, AND it fits my schedule haha.
I definitely meant to build up a fantasy, in-the-midst-of-an-adventure kind of atmosphere, so I'm glad to hear I got there :)
Oh damn! TTRPG is a lot of fun (and sometimes a lot of drama... :D). I remember my first campaign. My Investigator got murdered by a bunch of goblins by herself in the middle of an empty town square! And yet for some reason I kept playing... Now I GM more than I play. I honestly should see if my college has a game club... Just been too busy with school to check. Though I do wish you best of luck on that!
I didn't even notice the bass guitar at first but DANG.
You're not dead!
(haha it's a pun because the song)
(I'm so clever)
i mean
do you really KNOW i'm not dead
how can you be sure
OMG absolutely the best
I can't stop repeating this
So pleasant
UPD: wait, what? Why everybody speaks about death? I know lyrics basically by heart and yet don't notice anything about it
Gamer Cat this is about River Styx from Greek mythology. She's taking them to the underworld on the river
1Flame1 oh, I see now. Thank you.
I really like this song and it sounded good, even I accendently listened it in 1.25 the first time.
i'm doing this right now and giggling
Slowing it down can make it sound pretty spooky as well! xD
Very nice little detail I just noticed... The last time the song says "sticks and stones" it's spelled "Styx and stones" as in the River Styx, used in Greek mythology to enter the Underworld...
Love it when people catch the little Easter eggs like this!!
@@RachelRoseMitchell Great music! =D
@@RealmRabbit Thanks so much! I have a new album coming out very soon, I hope you'll enjoy it :)
YOUR BACK!!!!! can I use this song as inspiration for a book?
Hey! Sure, as long as you don't directly quote the lyrics or anything like that :)
Thanks, I won't.
It just hit me that this song is about death. OoO cause you got the ferry man style where he carries soals across.
AGH IM A HUGE FAN AA HELLO
howdy partner
*That moment when your fav music producer responds to yur comment.* O ~O Hoi
hoi there, hope you're having a nice day haha
Likewise! X3 Love your work!
Aw thank you! :)
👌
This sounds different from your usual songs. Livelier, more gleeful, almost teasing. The closest one that comes to it would be Cr1m1n4l Cr1m1n4l.
I really enjoy your other songs, but this is a nice change of pace.
I know that this is kind of supposed to be about Charon, but is anyone else getting a bit of a Hamlet/Rosencrantz&Guildenstern vibe? Just me? Ok cool.
Gotta ask, have you ever considered doing a collaboration with another UA-camr? There are a few singers who I think you'd sound fabulous with.
Hi
Okay, who was the one who disliked this?
This is by no means true of all your songs, but usually you seem to write about something. By that I mean like fan music for something. Is this for something like that and if so, what?
Not this one in particular!
'styx and stones' aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
eyyyyyyyyyy
Haha... sticks...styx.
