I recently picked one of these up at a yard sale, just gave it a muffle mod and re-tuned. My main saws are a stock 565, and a 372 with a muffler mod, and I'm pretty impressed with the 55. Any of the smaller saws I've had were cheap homeowner affairs that fell into my lap, which is what I expected with the 55... this saw is a very different animal.

My 55 was my second saw and I bought in 1991. That poor thing got me through thick and thin, and it is on the bench for a Hiway rebuild. Unfortunately, I like my CS-590 better, the extra CC's are come in handy and it is not that much heavier than the 55. So I don't know what I will do with it after the rebuild, but I'm keeping it out of loyalty.

My Husqvarna 51 got a 55 upsize when i rebuilt it. They are almost the exact same chassis. Really enjoy the saw. It was bought new by my father in the 90's and has alot of run time on it

Love my 55, now. When I first got it i didn't realise the little metal plate on the trigger would slip down and wedge under the saw side trigger actuator. You can see it between the saw and the handle in the gap. Fix that and you can get full trigger travel, different saw.

Affordable- pro grade build in what was considered a "homeowner" saw. Ability to run a rim sprocket so you could change your gearing or gauge. Excellent fuel consumption. You can put an 18 or even 20 on this saw and do damn near everything you want in the woods for the day without feeling beat at the end of the day. Love love love the 55.

Ok tell me how? IMO the oe 3/8’s(?) chains are too big on these saws and I’d love to run the .325 chain my 20” bar’ed (for reach + topping/ chunking bc I’m a climber) ms261cm runs? IMO that’s the chain I’d used on a 24 or up lightweight back saver bar.. the “stand up and buck” Billyrays talking about.. it makes me mad when people relate to it like it’s a certain complex. No, we need light powerheads on long bars for a reason. The smaller chain should make the combo rip.
I was planning on building a Hyway Closed Port with windowed piston build 24 ~ 28” bar just like Boedy but I found out my 2 donors already ran. I’m still new to gages and pitches and cutters to files we just bought new stuff because we needed to finish the jobs I never paid attention till now. Thanks!

      And what’s the drive links?
      Thank you.

Yeah. I really do like mine also. I bought it completely popped. So, new bearings, seals, jug, & piston. I flowed the cases a little before pulling the crankcase together. And a very modest port job. I um, just put a stock replacement muffler on it, but I will do something different when work slows down ya know. Thanks for doing a video on it.

Dude you got the best timing. Got my 51 a few days ago (my dad did some small engine repair. got it in a trade, been hanging in his shop for years) AND a parts 51 sans carb with a cooked top end, no muffler.
Added fuel, fired right up. Gonna need to get a nice bar. May go big bore meteor.. may try to port the 51 oem. Gonna run it a while first.
Yall dangerous on the chainsaw addiction shit. Im doing business paperwork at home and there are 6 saws inside my house right now. Couple more in the shop.
And best of all a brand spanking new 620p to break in tomorrow. Realllly looking forward to playing with that one. Or maybe even sending it off to Joe :-D

I have a 455 rancher. I absolutely love it. It’s light enough to cut firewood all day, and still powerful enough to get through the big wood. Out of the four saws I have, it’s the lightest one I own.

This is what I get for having to watch teh screen and my thumbs and bullshat autocorrect at the same time…
It’s not even a light saw. The 455.
So, if you get a jugged cylinder and you’re a shade tree or somewhat a mechanic, there are certain mods you can do diy. I’m pretty sure you can not do a base gasket delete on clamshell cylinders is number 1.
Every saw thanks to government and everything they touch “goes woke” they mess it up.. give a tiny amount of control they’ll take it all “what’s this 3 thousands of an inch?? We meant we’ll take the .22 too!” That’s why they’re after the .223. Sorry off topic but true. Every saw benefits from a muffler mod. But you can’t base gasket delete a cylinder that do have it.. or cut it down for higher compression.

Hi, I just purchased an early 55 in great condition. That brought me to your video and channel. I’m in desperate need of a cylinder and piston for my Partner 5000 plus. Did I hear correctly? Is the 55 top end compatible with the 5000? ?

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  Рік тому

You may need to get the smaller 44mm bore of the Husqvarna 50, but yeah. It'll bolt right on. The bore sizes are Husqvarna 50= 44mm (same as Partner 5000)
      Husqvarna 51= 45mm
      Husqvarna 55= 46mm
If you get the larger bores, the cylinder will bolt right up and everything will work perfectly, excepte the piston might hit the case on the down stroke. So, you will need to be prepared for that and bore out the case opening bigger with a dremel or something so that the larger piston will work. Or...just get a 44mm Husqvarna 50 piston and cylinder setup. Bob's your uncle.

These saws with the closed port cylinder and a 028 super piston makes very good power for what they are. Same with a stihl ms290 46mil piston. Hyway closed port cylinders are very good, you can use jb for reshaping the transfers on the closed port definitely helps a lot 😎

Also the easiest saw to split the cases on as well. Probably 1 of the easiest saws to fully rebuild. Only thing I don't like is how the throttle is a ush style and doesn't hook into the lever in the cases. The piece in the handle that pushes likes to break.

The highway Titan nickel pop-up cylinder kit for the 55(46mm) part#503 60 91 71. Is a closed port I have one physically here in my shop on the shelf for my next 55 build I was shocked when I opened it and found it was a closed port the last build I did on a 55 was a farmer tec cylinder no pop-up she run very well after porting work but the squish was big at .044 good compression and I didn't want to cut the cylinder or put an 028 super piston in it and make it hard for the guy to pull so I left it and amazingly she cut really fast pulled hard. Timing numbers on that were ex102 - in75 - trans 127 - squish .044 no base gasket just 1184 threebond. The costumer said that 55 is just a hand full of fun to run now his favorite saw in his collection.
