    Wow !!!! I literally just went through this (the hard way) but it was the best thing me and my partner could have done .. not even a month later after we settled our differences and made certain commitment changes did we get an offer that we had been praying for for the past 2 years of our start up ! Great video

    Truth---financial partners are problematic relationships forever .
    I would recommend to be the 100% owner .....and set up comp plans with your key employees that align with your business goals .
    Then you can make these 10 types of people feel like they are partners ,but are your managers and employees not your financial partners.

      You are so right, two-person business partnerships NEVER work out. Someone has to be in charge. Don't believe me? Start a business with a partner and talk to me in a couple of years. I guarantee you in time you will think the other person is a complete asshole.

      @@westcoasthustle6133 No but thats how it worked out. We had a 50-50 agreement at the beginning, for time and money that we will invest. But then he started to have different priorities and excuses. One excuse was that he was building a house so he didnt have money, second was that he has kids so he didnt have time. I was willing push the project for some time untill he handles his personal stuff but After 6 months he started to act like he is the brain behind the entire project and that it is expectected of me to do the work.
      Ofcourse this happened after I had developed the product, have it patented and ready to market.

    You have been doing a great job, Patrick, esp for people with interests in entrepreneurship and some business ideas. Quick question, if you have these 2 options; a) having the tech person as a partner in the business to develop the app, handle the tech side of the business and only participate in equity/ownership and 2) hire them for the app development job, pay them off and run with the app they developed. What factors would you consider and what would your decisions be given any number of different scenarios you may come up with?

    • @AlecSorensen
      @AlecSorensen Рік тому

      How did this work out for you? As a former tech person and now a business coach, I'd say the following. First, if you go with cheap contractors, you will eventually get bogged down with low quality and spend more time trying to get them to fix their bugs than on your business. Eventually, you'll need to hire someone at a reasonable salary to clean it up. However, if you've got a good short-term plan, you're good at marketing, and you only need a simple solution, that might get you where you need to go in the near term.
      If you go with the short-term contractor fix, invest lots of time into research. There are offshore companies who do okay quality, but you're going to have to reach out to recent customers, get examples of their actual work (not just portfolio), and what it's like to work with them.
      In the long term, you're going to want someone who has ownership of the product, and that's either going to have to be a decent salary or making them a business partner if you can't swing a competitive full-time salary yet.

    Hello
    Here s a scenario
    Company X
    Partner 1 will invest his full time in the company
    Partner 2 Owns another company but wants to come join company X as he doesn't see his company making good money. He will not invest his full time in the company.
    Partner 3 has a regular job and won't be a full time as well.
    So how do you suggest, partnership %, profit and operation expenses % to be shared would work.
    Idea of the company was of only Partner 1.
    Partner 2 and 3 says they will only join company full-time when there is enough profit and won't join until then.
    Also, when they see profit and join they would want additional share.
    What kind of breakup should be made for profit, expenses, and how to take it forward?

    I'm starting my own cosmetic line and I really wanted my one friend to be my business partner because she took a college course in cosmetics, but she has put no money towards the business and I put a total of $800 she keeps saying that she can't fund the business because she's too poor yet she can afford to buy takeout weekly and wants to spend her entire tax return on a stuffed animal... She's 25.. where I spend my entire tax return on funding the business. After watching this video I have messaged her that she will not be a business partner and the reasons why and I'm hoping it doesn't ruin our friendship. Ahh, love your content these days! Again, very relatable. Recently started my 2nd venture, picked up one tech co-founder with whom I already got a business (IT service business), and another tech co-founder who I am yet to test on reliability. There are 2 guilt trips in our trio, both with kids, myself included :) But it's the vice versa: childless co-founder who shames us. He has a point, though, no offense, but sometimes it's an issue. It's always hard to find the right co-founder, but I already know that I prefer to work with tech guys. :) Thanks for the vid!

    • @AlecSorensen
      @AlecSorensen Рік тому

      @@tt-tk9076 How has this turned out for you?
      It really depends on if you're getting what you need. When I coach people with dysfunctional partners or employees, I typically them identify what they need and set boundaries. Focus less on what the other person is doing and more on what you need and what your options are if those needs are not met.
      Sometimes you find that you're not happy with a person's performance, but it doesn't affect you that much. When I talk to a C-suite exec, for example, who can make money, likes what they do, but is around other execs that are absentee or dysfunctional. They know they'll leave sometime, but the company meets their needs at the moment.
      Other times, you find that someone is not consistently meeting your needs. Framing the conversation as, "I need X, but I'm not getting it." makes it easier to have difficult conversations without (necessarily) having an argument. As long as the X is specific (not I need you to work harder, but I need someone who can do a specific task with these kinds of results), it clarifies what needs to be done. I worked with an employee once who barely got any work done but honestly thought they were doing a good job. I went through the specific expectations of the role, and how I would support them. They actually ended up leaving themselves because they realized they couldn't meet those expectations.
      But they were able to recognize that the job wasn't a good fit because I made it about very specific outcomes on specific tasks, not just "you're not working hard enough."
