Thanks for having me on! Was really nice to meet you guys in person and hang out!
Bolt Thrower, the 40kiest band 🤘
Love the collab, two great channels
Big ups for the Bolt Thrower 2 shirt.
Proud fellow Calgarian rn
Adepticon 2024, late night drinks and conspiracies! Great video Eric!
I really enjoyed hearing from Eric: the voice of Eric, from Eric's Hobby Workshop, starring: Eric as Eric.
I'm so bloody happy this happened. Eric somehow comes across as even more down to earth on waffle chats like these. I love how at one point he was all like "I don't want to say it in case it offends you", and I was thinking "oh no", and it was the most inoffensive funny thing ever. Great chat, thanks all
Can we have an old school "Deodorant Land Speeder" build off between Peachy, Geoff and Patrick? That or the best pin cushion cactus.
What an astoundingly charismatic and likeable guy Eric is. Top tier guest, seemingly top tier bloke. Another great episode
Nah he's a twat, enjoys antagonizing children with autism irl.. know the guy irl he's a cunt, idolize literally anyone else lol
Good Canadian lad!!
The Bernard Cornwell Book and Series is The Last Kingdom. I was sitting there listening and thinking, 'Come on boys, you know this' 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 I know I know, sometimes my brain just doesn’t want to recall lol. I blame it on having kids
The series was brilliant
The series is called the Saxon Stories, The Saxon Chronicles, or the Warrior Chronicles depending on which paperback you look at. The specific book I was talking about that centers round Chester is Warriors of the Storm. The Last Kingdom is the name of the first novel, and now the TV series. It's very similar to how the A Song of Ice and Fire novels became the TV show Games of Thrones, which is pretty much the name of the first book, A Game of Thrones, and now many people just call them the Game of Thrones books. I was wondering why it was so hard for me to recall the name of the book series...I kept thinking The Warlord Chronicles, but thats a different series of Books by Bernard Cornwell about a dark ages warlord who fights in a shield wall 🤣
Eric's videos are what pushed me to dive head first into the hobby after barely dipping my toes in it for years. One of the calmest, coolest voices on UA-cam (also my Mum loves your terrain videos Eric! 😅 )
😅 i love that, glad you are enjoying them!
True! If it wasnt for the fact that I actually want to see his creations too I could instead just meditate to his voice. Seems like a cool guy!
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Know this is like 5 months old but just wanted to say you got me into the painting and made me want to make terrain.
As a catholic chaplain, I loved that bit about the priest buying a demons codex! 😂
The thing with scratch building terrain is because you aren't using the expensive hobby kits it gives you more freedom to make mistakes with materials you can afford to make mistakes with, until you are confident enough to modify just about anything else. A good learning place and an important part of the hobby that is being discarded were it not for channels like yours, MSPaints and others.
"all toys are just little things" so simple but such ingsight. 10/10
White dwarf modelling workshop in the early 90s was awesome.
Plans for scratch building tanks, bunkers, buildings etc
Eric’s videos are brilliant and my 7 year old son loves watching them. Annoyingly though he now wants me to build a full trench board.
build it, I built one similar like 20 years ago its really simple to do
Eric is the goat nuff said 🤘
His voice, I'm swoon! As an aged fella this is unexpected to say the least! Awesome as always folks ❤
Haha! Same...
(2 seconds in) I know that face, I don’t need a title!!! Holy sweet hobby Jesus, it’s Eric!!! I love his work! Been a huge source of inspiration for me in literal hobby AND in mindset.
If you're interested in Agincourt, you need to check out a series of vids by Todd's Workshop called Arrows vs Armour. They get together an armourer, a bowyer, a fletcher, and a curator of the Wallace collection, and shoot huge arrows from a monster of a longbow at some incredible replica armour. It's brilliant!
This might sound weird but one thing I love about Eric's videos is that they just make me happy. So glad you got him on.
Excellent so see such a gent on here, great chats and 100% yes to refusing to rebase for The Old World. The real secret is to never have rebased for AoS in the first place ;D Also YES old juves are perfect!
Great content as always! Interestingly, ring ring a roses, despite the being in a printed form since at least 1796 (the poem itself is almost certainly much older), was not associated with the Black Death until after WW2. How culture, language and interpretation of things change is so fascinating!
These chats just make the world a better place.
Looking forward to this one. Eric comes off as an unassuming intellectual dude, and often puts in some nice touches of culture into his videos.
Are you saying Due South gave me an unhealthy expectation for the day to day activities of the Mounties. *Cries* 😅
Great episode
Eric is just such a cool and chill guy - I love watching his videoes as they are so down to earth and accessible... and entertaining as well! Really great interview, especially for someone suffering from jetlag! :D
I've got to say I've really been enjoying these chat videos. Working nights at the moment has been so much easier with these playing in the headphones. The candid and friendly banter is very refreshing.
Awesome! We’re glad you like them!
Best thing to come out of Calgary since Ginger Beef :p
Very nice to see such a personal interview depicting so much universal feelings
Hey guys, I’m the 67 year old you’ve been talking about! Currently working on Horus Heresy Thousand Sons, just Ahzek Ahriman to finish.
What a genuinely nice bloke. Thanks for the video chaps! 🙌
Dirk Pitt is the car collector from Clive Cussler.. love ❤️ the books. My favourite is Cyclops
Don't care for GW or 40k, but I always enjoy videos from Eric from Eric's Hobby Workshop featuring Eric. He does a good job of focusing on the technique and not the specific application so it's easy to take the concept and inspiration to other games, and his lore/game-specific videos are still great for painting session background listening.
This is a great surprise! Eric's content is great! Also, Star Wars Action Fleet - what a throwback!
These shows are the highlight of my week.
This was fire. I was absolutely losing it at the xbox/ps4 bits... glad you guys got to connect across the pond ;)
What a great combo of fun people! The legion videos were my introduction to Eric's great work, such a great craftsman and presenter with a great voice. His balance between approachable and aspirational videos is rare and much appreciated.
Love watching Eric’s stuff, so absorbing!
Great episode, been following Eric for some years now. Love both channels work!
Another Brilliant guest! You guys are on fire!
The guests are getting better and better. Cheers boys 👌
You folks are doing a fantastic job, this light touch, free flow conversational platform is such a nice contrast to the rapid pace in-your-face approach so many videos take… really great stuff!
Love Eric! And this podcast! He is bringing so much refreshing content to the platform.
Another cracking video, love this format it's so great.
Another great guest! Eric's stuff is legendary, either crazymad huge or super inventive and creative. Nice one bois.
Love this, such a fun authentic conversation, don't even need any prompts was so natural. Eric is a star ⭐
Great episode. I've just started listening to these while at work, but I can already say you guys are great. I must admit, it was seeing that this episode had Eric in it is how I chose which one to listen to first. He's such a mellow fellow and so positive, and is a great inspiration and teacher in his videos.
Thanks guys!
Thanks for watching the shows 👍👍👍 and yeah Eric is great
Eric is great, love all the amazing hobby projects. ❤. Keep it up!
Another great video to start the week. 🎉
I love the talk about old Necromunda! I’m currently repainting my 90’s Cawdor right now! The model are so detailed and with so much character!
Eric’s videos are great. This was a great video. Thanks so much.
Two favourite hobby channels doing a crossover, my week has absolutely been made! Could scarcely believe it when I saw the thumbnail haha
What a great video. Thank you so much.
Eric's work is amazing, absolutely love his Necromunda and Mordheim builds.
Inspirational and pure hobby entertainment to watch.
Thanks for another great conversation to listen to guys, carry on being awesome and take care.
My favourite combination! Love both your channels so much and happy to see you talking to each other. I've hit the like before I've even watched it!
Aww thanks! 😍😍😍
As someone from upstate NY by Lake Ontario with probably similar trees to what Eric is familiar with it’s nice to know that the old GW trees are in fact like real trees.
Great episode guys!
Love the Billion Dollar Clown Farm shirt :)
Legends meeting a legend! Gotta love Eric!
You can really tell that Eric has a passion for the hobby. Great guy with a great attitude.
Super video, fantastic guest. Love your projects Erik, always love a new video when you drop them!
Great Guest ,Big fan of Eric, coincidentally i was painting some old metal Escher models while listening to this.
Highlighting another awesomely genuine hobby personality. Will definitely go check out some of Eric’s videos. Well done on always broadening the hobby universe with great guests.
Cheers Gary, Eric is a top lad 👍
Yet another awesome guest :)
Eric is awesome, super happy for him to get to have this trip and visit the grimdark disneyland 💚
Never watched one of Eric's videos, but once again, Painting Phase hs introduced me to such a likeable person, I'll have to add them to my hobby video rotation. Thanks for another great interview.
Awesome thanks for watching and checking out Eric’s channel. He’s a good egg.
It was lovely to meet him when he was over, I hope he enjoyed his pub dinner after BOYL.
Great interview. My first battlefield was an old Subbuteo cloth pitch glued to a large board of hardboard 😁
Really cool stuff! And some Canadian content no less! Currently watching from Edmonton, Alberta. As per the comment on Canadian travel distances, just the next closest city to Calgary a casual 3 hour drive away.....
Eric's videos and projects are great. Looking forward to his titan update 👍🏻
Nice Bolt Thrower shirt 🤘
One of my favorite fellow Canadian hobby content creators with my favorite UK people... legendary! ... one of my favorite things out of the old 90s Dwarf magazines, was a Land Speeder made out of deodorant. Haha.
Yeah, and later re-used as an example for the Vehicle Construction Rules, too! Good times!
One of the best shows so far! Eric is lovely
Thankyou.
Wow thanks again for introducing me to another creative genius 😊
When I saw some posts about Eric being in the UK, I was hoping for him to be on here. One of my favourite tabletop people on the internet, he seems like a great guy and has inspired me to get into scratchbuilding terrain.
Also, as far as I am aware, the name of the bollock dagger doesn't come from stabbing someone in that area, but from the shape of their hilt with two round knobs that makes the dagger look rather phallic. The shape carved into a wooden hilt started out as a fashion curiosity on simple lower class working knives, but over time became fashionable for fighting daggers and even higher class ones too. They're basically a practical penis joke that ran for two centuries or so.
A fellow Albertan! Great talk this one. Agreed on all terrain from 40k becoming plastic kits only, really does make things small. More hobby articles, more tutorials using craft products.
at 1:08:45 You and me both Peachy! Love that kit, and the potential to mix them with.... oh wait.. those Cadians are gone, off to Ebay! lol
Eric one of my fav US content creators. Love your work gents and I hope you get into the old world when it launches.
Good god man, this chap is Canadian! 😉
@@thepaintingphase sheesh US/Canada all the same to this Aussie /ducks. Perhaps I should have said North American!
As always, great interview and video, you guys are awesome! And Patrick, I hope that when I reach 60 (in 7 years) that I am still interested and fascinated with this hobby! I hope that I can still paint, convert, build and play some games with my buddies (even though most are about 10 years younger than me). And if I end up in a nursing home, that I scare my home mates because they see me playing wargames, making "pew-pew" or "waaaagh" sounds and yelling "For the Emperor"!! 🤣
Eric is such a Hobby bro! Love his videos :D
Nice one guys. Eric I hope you had a great time in the UK with the wife and all the strange people over here 🙂
20:06 I genuinely had a weird tingly feeling when Peachy started talking about Dave Andrews and scratchbuilt terrain that it would lead to him talking about Brian the Sewer Vent, but sadly we got some nameless Necron ziggurat instead :( If you ever get Dave on you'll have to borrow it off Nick Bayton so we can bask in its glory and venerate him for its creation.
I'm not far off my sixties - I read White Dwarf when it was a D&D mag. I love the idea of things coming into use again and again, or players keeping games going. All the chat about Mordheim has led me to want to get hold of it
Love Eric and his internal hobby workshop. He’s possibly the chillest dude in the hobby.
Edit: You joke about the guy returning the Xbox but one of my funniest purchases in a GW store was buying a guitar effects pedal off of one of the staff.
😂😂😂 it’s crazy what people think they remember and say when coming into the stores lol
As someone who works in Egyptology and museums - you have no idea how refreshing it is to hear Eric condensing the nonsense about the Great Pyramid! ❤️
I keep saying this, but I'd love to send you guys a 3D printed reproduction statue from a museum to potentially use as terrain.
Will have to print something Egyptian, will be nice with Old World and Tomb King vibes approaching!
😍👍😍 I’m all up for done Egyptian based scenery - peachy
@@thepaintingphase oh... IT'S ON then!
Will have to fire up the printer, but you can expect something to play with soon! 😎
Brilliant show! Eric’s vids are fantastic but I love his Mordheim vids the most.
I still have my wargames terrain book. The silo was one of my favorites! I never ended up making anything worthwhile out of it but any time I see formed styrofoam from anything I think "that'd make a sweet bunker!"
Eric seems like a really nice guy. Hope to meet him someday and chat about the hobby. And oh yes, please get Tuomas Pirinen in this podcast!
Reason to love The Painting Phase # (shuffles papers) EleventyThouseand and Three - Ensuring my hobby blindspots are properly illuminated. Somehow I had missed Eric's work, and now I have a lovely backlog to binge!
Yaaay! We fully endorse a good old binge
omg, amazing how you guys flew Eric over for this interview!
Ha! I’d love to say that was what we did, he was over for an event, and it made sense to ask him on
Love Eric, such a cool guy
What a lovely man. Thank you for organising these chats. It's great to see a less curated version of the people I watch regularly, and also meet new people. I kinda hope you were able to organise a chat with Trent from Miscast. I saw both Eric and Peachy in his latest video, so fingers crossed!
Cheers, and yes spoilers Trent might be coming soon👍
Great discussion regarding world building. I think this is why Tolkien remains top dog so far after his test. His work is so open-ended and has so many internal inconsistencies, but it makes it more mysterious and real somehow. The winding world of Warhammer fiction feels the same to me. It’s been written by so many different authors in so many different decades, with so many different ideas that it is just as mysterious and open as middle earth.
Great chat
Eric's the best!
Eric is a legend in the making
Eric is my favourite creator I've made so many of his builds.
great !!!
I love Eric!
Well just Eric now? He is the work shop! 🙌
I used to have a GW publication of some description and it had a piece of scenery in that was a crashed spaceship or escape pod of some kind. I remember it because similarly to the infamous "deodorant speeder" it was made from a toilet ball valve float. I remember thinking it was awesome but have never been able to find a picture of it.
Concerning the trees, I had the same experience when we went to the lake district.
I always thought the Lord of the Rings Battlefields from GW looked a bit too picturesque and green with those shrubs and long grasses and old oaks... Lake District looks exactly like that. 😅
What a good chap.
Good to see a fellow 'Berta boy on my favourite podcast!
Wooh Eric. Love ya man.
